Mild spoilers for Westworld follow
I took the advice of those of you who were urging me to watch Westworld and marathoned it over the weekend. The show is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, with so many layers to the interactions between the hosts, or the robots who work in the wild west-themed park, and the humans who visit and work there. It’s really hard not to get addicted to the show, so if you’re considering watching Westworld do it now before you lose an entire weekend. There are so many excellent performances that you get lost in the story and start to take the debauchery and violence for granted. There were think pieces last week about the host with his head caved in, but it didn’t even phase me, nor did the orgy scenes in the new border town of Pariah. After a while you just kind of accept that there are different rules in Westworld. Apparently it was a bit of a shock to the actors who were filming those scenes. Evan Rachel Wood has an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which she talks about the evolution of her character, Dolores, and how it was to sit naked in front of her creator, Dr. Robert Ford, played by Anthony Hopkins. There seems to be a whole backstory between Delores and Ford. Rachel tells THR that she tried to figure out what it could be by studying Hopkins’s demeanor during those scenes, but that she couldn’t get a read on him.
Episode five is a big one for Dolores, starting with her arrival in Pariah. What does she make of the town?
I think what we’re starting to notice, especially in this episode, is she is improvising. She’s really breaking code. She’s speaking in a less damsel, Disney princess-type of way, and more like a philosophical stoner. (Laughs.) She’s suddenly asking different questions about her reality, and she’s also making sense of it very quickly, and in an evolved way. Like, when she sees Pariah, she doesn’t freak out; she says, “It’s beautiful in its own way.” Because it’s almost what the world looks like when it’s not pretending. It’s just an honest world. She’s also obviously starting to hear things that she would normally be programmed not to ?
And seeing things, as well.
Yes. She’s seeing things and talking to the voice, which is getting louder and stronger. I think she’s scared about what’s happening, but she’s compelled to see where this is going to take her. And we also saw Dolores and Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) have a scene together for the very first time this season.
What are some of your memories of shooting those scenes?
It was breathtaking. Because obviously I was so excited to know what it’s like to do a scene with Anthony Hopkins. But it wasn’t just a scene. It was an empty glass box, and I sat on a stool, naked, and Anthony Hopkins was five inches away from my face. It was such an intense scene, and especially for Ford. I feel like it’s the first time we’ve really seen him vulnerable and scared, without all the answers. There’s 30 years of history between him and Dolores that we still don’t quite understand, and I’m still trying to figure out exactly what’s going on in that scene, and who they are to one another, and why he’s so scared.
The scene ends on a great note, as Dolores asks Ford: “Are we friends?” And he very chillingly replies, “I wouldn’t say that at all.” So what are they?
It could mean so many things. They could be enemies, or not. When Anthony and I did that scene, he did every single take differently. I thought I might be able to get clues from his performance, and then it changed every time. So I was like, “Aw, man! It could be anything!” He blew me away with his acting. Of course, we all know Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest performers of our time, but seeing him in person and seeing those subtleties and seeing them change every take was just like watching Da Vinci paint. It reminded me why I love what I do. It was unbelievable. I even forgot I was naked! It was that good!
What was your experience shooting the scenes at the sex party in Pariah?
It was so crazy. It was one of the craziest days of shooting I’ve ever had in my entire life. I just kept having to go into a corner, put my earphones on, and try to zone out, because I also had to sit there and not really react to what I was seeing, and it was? people were painted gold and red, and there were orgies, and we had no warning. We just walked on set and there it was. (Laughs.) Jimmi Simpson and I just kind of clung to each other.

Mild speculative spoilers
She’s so thoughtful about her work and about Westworld and you never once doubt that she’s an automaton coming into consciousness. EWR is selling the hell out of this show and she has another interview with Huffington Post where she gets incredibly excited talking about how intense it gets in episode five and beyond. I especially liked her character’s arc in episode five, where she picked up a gun and decided to no longer be the damsel in distress.
I’m only just delving into this show and have realized that there are all sorts of theories about what’s really going on with Dolores and with the various characters. There’s a theory that seems to hold some weight that there are two versions of Dolores, and that’s why she keeps seeing herself. That would also explain how the bandit who was killed by The Man in Black, Lawrence, turns up as El Lazlo so soon afterwards. There’s another theory that we’re looking at different timelines and that two of the human characters are actually the same person at different phases of their life. I’m not going to get into that but you can read about both of those theories on Huffington Post. I hope the second one is not true.
Also, there are SO MANY talented actors on this show. I love Thandie Newton and I want to see more of Rodrigo Santoro. Ed Harris is perfect as the Man in Black and it goes without saying that Anthony Hopkins slays.

HBO?s big, new, controversial hit show Westworld premiered this past weekend. I didn?t watch it, mostly because I only subscribe to HBO for Game of Thrones, and mostly because I wasn?t really jazzed about the premise for the show, which is super-confusing and apparently the show leans heavily on violence against women. Or should I say, the story-within-the-story involves violence against women? As I said, it?s confusing. In the premiere of the show, there was a sexual assault within the theme-park/robot world, where Ed Harris?s human character assaults Evan Rachel Wood?s robot. Or something? Anyway, Evan Rachel Wood wants you to know that the show isn?t all about sexual assault.
There’s a duel brewing over a controversial rape scene in Sunday night’s premiere of “Westworld.” A sequence implying Evan Rachel Wood’s human-like robot is sexually assaulted by a human gunslinger (Ed Harris) aired on HBO has sparked condemnation on social media. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation condemned “Westworld,” accusing the cable network of “making sadistic themes of sexual violence against women the cornerstone of its entertainment formula.”
But Wood herself promised in a recent interview with the Daily News that the show “will be flipping (such violence) on its head.”
?It?s a genuine concern that violence against women would be used in a gratuitous manner, to be titillating, for shock value or just for the sake of being there, but I think in regards to ?Westworld,? we?re using it as a comment on those very things,? Wood told the Daily News ahead of the premiere. ?We don?t actually show any violence against women, although it is implied. (Co-creator) Lisa (Joy) was very passionate about not showing gratuitous violence against women and I think the reason why it?s in the show is to push us to take a look at ourselves and humanity and why this sort of thing is an epidemic that people get pleasure out of it. We?re examining the horrors behind it and how it impacts the victim. I hope people recognize the context and understand that we?ll be flipping it on its head.?
[From The NYDN]
I think people would have been more likely to give Westworld the benefit of the doubt if Game of Thrones hadn?t wielded violence against their female characters so consistently and so brutally for years. That being said, on GoT, men run the show ? the show is consistently written, directed and produced by men. On Westworld, at least there are some women behind the scenes, questioning the use of violence against women (or female robots) and what the show is saying. It would have been great to hear from Lisa Joy on this issue, rather than Evan. Evan?s not writing the stories, nor is she a producer on the show. She?s just playing the victimized robot.

| Evan Rachel Wood on dating Marilyn Manson: 'I thought I was in love' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Evan Rachel Wood covers the latest issue of The Edit. She?s really giving me strong Robin Wright vibes here. It?s not just the haircut (although the two women have very similar hairstyles), but facially, they are very similar. ERW even played Robin?s daughter in the completely underrated The Conspirator and the casting was simply perfect (plus, James McAvoy was wonderful in that film too). Anyway, Evan hasn?t done much press lately, partly because she hasn?t had many big projects to promote and partly because she really doesn?t want to talk about herself. She?s barely had one public word to say since she split with Jamie Bell last year. In this interview, she gives up quotes about Jamie, her thing with Marilyn Manson and more. But we still don?t know her son?s name! Isn?t that crazy?
Turning 28: ?I turn 28 in a couple of weeks and I can?t wait! I love getting older. I feel like your twenties are such a s**t show, I just want to get to 30 and say, ?I made it!??
Becoming an actress in her teens: ?I was very shy and insecure. I was expected to handle myself like an adult, but I didn?t have the tools. All I knew was how to be an actor and work a red carpet. I didn?t know what I wanted or who I was outside of the industry. You start thinking, ?Do people even like me as a person?? [My parents] didn?t want anything bad to happen, so they held on tight ? so tight that I couldn?t breathe. And I pushed away really hard. I was like, ?Wait a minute, I didn?t get to be a teenager and make mistakes!? I felt I?d been cheated.?
Her relationship with Marilyn Manson: ?I thought I was in love. I wasn?t doing it to prove a point or be rebellious. I wanted to break a mold for sure ? I knew I was edgier, more alternative, and weird. And he was just what I needed, because I felt really free with him. And that freedom was attractive.?
The backlash she got for ?homewrecking? his marriage to Dita Von Teese: ?People were cruel. You build immunity to that sort of thing, but I wasn?t used to negative feedback, so it got to me. Then I got angry, and pushed away even more. I wouldn?t trade any of [our relationship]. I appreciate everything he taught me. I just don?t think we were right for each other.?
Her bisexuality: ?I knew it was part of me, but I hadn?t allowed myself to explore it. I didn?t realize how crippling it was until I finally opened that door and went, ?Wow!??
Giving birth to her son by candlelight: ?It was a psychedelic experience. I felt like I was hitting every corner of the room. Everything was vibrating.?
She still loves her ex-husband Jamie Bell: ?Jamie?s lovely. He was the love of my life.?
Her plans for the future: ?Life doesn?t give a s**t about your plans? I don?t want to have another baby, but my little sister is adopted, and I was hoping that one day I could do that…?
[From The Edit]
Evan has always said variations on the ?Marilyn was a great teacher? thing post-split. She was 19 years old when they got together and he was 36. Of course he was ?teaching? her about life. She was a sheltered child actress and it was obvious she thought he was, like, the coolest person in the world (he is not and he never was). As for Evan giving birth by candlelight? hippie nonsense. At least she has nice things to say about Jamie. I still have hope that they?ll get back together at some point.

Picking up where they left off, Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans are at it once again in the latest spot for Gucci Guilty.
This time around, director Frank Miller (think ?Sin City?) has set the two movie stars in a comic book-flavored film noir scenario complete with plenty of fire. Comprised of a few sexy flashback scenes, the Gucci Guilty fragrance commercial culminates in both Evan and Chris coming back together, if only for a brief moment.
Check out the new Gucci Guilty clip, but try not to get too hot under the collar!

NOOOooooooo!!!!
I?ll admit it, I am actually really upset with this news: Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell?s marriage is over after less than two years. They were seriously one of my favorite couples. I thought they were really hot together ? he?s all English smartass and she?s all Hollywood hipster, but it worked brilliantly and I hoped they would make it work long-term. Not so much.
Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell have ended their marriage, a rep for the couple confirms exclusively to Us Weekly.
“Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell have decided to separate,” the rep tells Us in an exclusive statement. “They both love and respect one another and will of course remain committed to co-parenting their son. This is a mutual decision and the two remain close friends.”
A source adds: “They love each other so much but it just wasn’t right.”
Wood, 26, and Bell, 28, first met on the set of Green Day’s music video “Wake Me Up When September Ends” in 2004 and tied the knot eight years later in October 2012. Last July, they welcomed a baby boy, whose name has never been revealed. (At the time, Bell praised his “warrior” wife via Twitter for birthing their child so “naturally and peacefully.”)
Back in November, the first time mom opened up about motherhood and her hectic schedule to Us during a screening of her film Charlie Countryman in NYC.
“I’ve been having separation anxiety because I?m so used to him being right here all the time. They kind of become a part of you, you know?” she told Us on Nov. 13 of her little tot. “It was my dream to be a mom, so I’m loving it. I love it.”
“He’s smiling and laughing. He started rolling over,” she gushed of his recent milestones. “He’s grabbing things. You know, he’s making oohs and aahs.”
Wood and the Fantastic Four 2 actor’s last red carpet appearance together was at the LACMA 2013 Art + Film Gala in L.A. last November. Bell, for the most part, has kept mum about his relationship with the Facing the Wind actress, and recently deleted his official Twitter page.
[From Us Weekly]
From the way they talked in various interviews over the years, I always felt like Jamie just flat-out adored her. They dated and broke up in the mid-aughts and then reconnected after Evan was finally done with Marilyn Manson. It felt like Jamie had held a torch for her for years and once he got her back, he wasn?t letting go. So? my impression is that this breakup is something SHE wanted. But I?m sure we?ll find out the reason soon enough. Ugh. I?m so sad. This sucks. You know what will suck harder? If she goes back to Marilyn Manson. NOOOooooo.

| Evan Rachel Wood goes for a bold two-tone hair color: does she pull it off? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos from The LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s Annual An Evening With Women in Beverly Hills this weekend. Evan Rachel Wood showed up to the event looking like this! Dramatic hair change, huh? That?s been going around lately. The last time I saw Evan, she was a redhead at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. I think so much of ERW?s beauty, and I believe that she has that Cate Blanchett-quality where she can pull off very diverse looks. Not only that, ERW can pretty much wear anything and, much like La Blanchett, she still looks regal. So, while I?m not crazy about ERW?s new hair, I have to admit? it doesn?t even look bad. She?s close to pulling it off.
Anyway, at the event, Evan sang with 4 Non Blondes, and she talked about coming out as bisexual. In a recent interview, Evan discussed how she was publicly ?shamed? by people who thought she should be either gay or straight: ?People like things black and white. It’s less scary. Grey areas make people uneasy. I also wanted to inspire people to be who they are. Maybe help another struggling terrified 12 year old know it’s ok. And I didn’t want to feel like I had to hide the women in my life.”
By the way, do you realize that her son with Jamie Bell is nine months old and we still don?t know the kid?s name? That?s unheard of in celebrity circles.
I?m also including photos of Evan?s crush, Milla Jovovich, plus Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert, Michelle Rodriguez, Sia (I didn?t realize before now that she?s an out-and-proud lesbian) and Rumer Willis.

| Evan Rachel Wood rants against the MPAA for 'shaming women for enjoying sex' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
Back in 2010, Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams were being praised by critics as early Oscar frontrunners for their performances in Blue Valentine, a film about a couple getting together and breaking up and all of the mess that comes with it. The film included a few sex scenes, including one scene in which Ryan?s character was going down on Michelle?s character. The MPAA threatened to slap the film with an NC-17 rating if the director didn?t cut or re-edit the scene. Ryan ended up defending the director?s original vision (and the whole idea of a lady getting hers) in a well-spoken argument that garnered so much attention, the MPAA had to eat their words and they ended up giving Blue Valentine an R-rating.
Well, funny thing. Charlie Countryman, the new film starring Shia Labeouf and Evan Rachel Wood, is going through an almost identical controversy. Apparently, there is a scene in the film where Shia?s character is going down on Evan?s character. And wouldn?t you know, the MPAA is all pearl-clutchy about it again and they?re threatening Charlie Countryman with an NC-17 rating if the scene isn?t cut or re-edited. I guess the director already tried to please the ratings board by editing the scene and Evan recently saw the re-cut film. She was not amused. She went HAM via Twitter:
?After seeing the new cut of #CharlieCountryman I would like 2 share my disappointment with the MPAA, who thought it was necessary to censor a woman?s sexuality once again. The scene where the two main characters make “love” was altered because someone felt that seeing a man give a woman oral sex made people “uncomfortable” but the scenes in which people are murdered by having their heads blown off remained intact and unaltered.?
?This is a symptom of a society that wants to shame women and put them down for enjoying sex, especially when (gasp) the man isn’t getting off as well! It?s hard for me to believe that had the roles been reversed it still would have been cut OR had the female character been raped it would have been cut.
?It?s time for people to GROW UP. Accept that women are sexual. Accept that some men like pleasuring women. Accept that women don’t have to just be f–ked and say thank you…We are allowed and entitled to enjoy ourselves. It?s time we put our foot down…Thanks for listening.?
[From Evan Rachel Wood?s Twitter]
Yeah? I?m feeling Evan here. I think her points are completely and utterly valid, and she?s absolutely right. If the character was being raped or abused, I doubt the MPAA would have cared. If the genders had been reversed (if Shia was on the receiving end), the MPAA wouldn?t care. Here?s the question I still have about the MPAA: just how old are these censors? Are they, like, in their 80s? Are they all old men who get upset with the idea of a lady getting hers? Apparently, they?re equally squeamish about Michael Fassbender?s Fassdong too, because Shame ended up with the same NC-17 rating as well. I can?t believe I?m saying this, but I think Harvey Weinstein has the right idea ? Harvey?s been engaged in a near holy war against the MPAA for years now. Keep on, Harvey.

Yay! I knew when I saw those photos of Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell two weekends ago that she would give birth soon, and it?s happened! Evan and Jamie welcomed their first child together? at some point. They haven?t announced when she gave birth, but I would guess that maybe it happened over the weekend or on Monday. It?s baby season! Evan and Jamie welcomed a little boy. We don?t know the name yet.
Evan Rachel Wood is a mommy! The 25-year-old actress has welcomed her first child with husband Jamie Bell, her rep confirms to Us Weekly.
“Evan Rachel Wood and her husband Jamie Bell are parents to a beautiful boy,” the rep tells Us. “Parents and baby are all doing well.”
Wood and Bell, 27, who wed in October 2012, announced they were expecting in January 2013. The Mildred Pierce actress tweeted updates to her followers throughout her pregnancy. On July 6, she wrote, “How can you be so excited to see someone you have never even met?”
The actress also previously told Us that she had to change her personal style when she found out she was pregnant. “Pants are just out the window,” she said. “I got all these maternity pants and I was just like, ‘No.’ So it’s dresses, which are kind of different for me. Pants are gone.”
[From Us Weekly]
Married in October? this was a honeymoon baby, right? Yes, the math works out. A baby born nine months after the wedding. How old-school! But it?s sweet, and you know I love them together. I think Jamie adores her and I think he probably calms her wildness a great deal. And now they have a son? and I was hoping they would have a girl, just because I wanted to see that. But a boy is fine. I can?t wait for the name! I bet it will be slightly unconventional but not crazy. Maybe an old Southern name, because ERW is a Southern girl and I bet she has some family names she might want to use. NOT Bubba. And not George either. Or Crumpets. Or Carlos Danger.

Here are some photos of Evan Rachel Wood and her husband Jamie Bell in Malibu over the weekend. Evan should be the next to give birth, right? I mean, after Waity Katie. I?d say ERW will probably give birth by the first week of August, maybe. She?ll have a Leo baby! Probably. I don?t really think it?s cold enough in California to warrant a leather jacket and so many layers (look at how Jamie is dressed), but I?ll give Evan some props for having such a low-key yet stylish pregnancy. It helps that she looks fantastic pregnant too. Every woman ?glows? but some women just seem extra-beautiful when pregnant, and I think Evan is one of those ladies.
Evan got in a little bit of trouble last week when she innocently tweeted, ?Whoa. Whoa. Peanut Butter Pop Tarts?! Of course, because I can’t smoke any weed right now. Dammit!? I thought that was funny, and that she was just tweeting something about her bizarre pregnancy cravings. But people freaked out because OMG POT and so Evan deleted the tweet and posted this one: ?So apparently when you make a joke about pop tarts, people hear “I miss smoking weed” for those of you who dont know. I missed the memo.?
Evan?s Twitter is interesting ? she?s been tweeting about Trayvon Martin and a lot of stuff about Voter ID laws and anti-choice legislation. She?s a political liberal, but she?s not just tweeting endless political stuff either. She also tweets stuff like ?My cat is snoring in my face.? And ?When a pregnant woman says she just ‘rolled’ out of bed, she is being very serious.?

This is just a reminder: Evan Rachel Wood is still pregnant! She was photographed yesterday in Hollywood, being driven to a friend?s house. Her husband Jamie Bell was also photographed over the weekend picking up some beer, which was allegedly for their baby shower. Maybe the baby shower was over the weekend? I like that we don?t really know. I like that Evan and Jamie aren?t inviting People Magazine to their baby shower. I like that their guest list doesn?t include reality stars and C-list celebrities who pose on a red carpet before they enter the baby shower.
I have no idea when Evan is due, but I suspect it?s soon. Honestly, my summer-baby prediction pool got really messed up when Kim Kardashian gave birth early. I?m still surprised that Busy Phillips hasn?t given birth yet, you know? So I don?t know when Evan is due. My guess is within the next month, maybe. Maybe after Duchess Kate and before Halle Berry? I think Halle is due in October anyway, so that?s not much of a prediction.
I?ll admit it, I kind of a shipper for Evan and Jamie. I just love them as a couple and I want to think they make each other really happy. I think Jamie calms ERW, and he centers her as a person and as an artist. And I hope they?re both really jazzed about the baby. So cute.
