Earlier this week, I covered Kristen Stewart?s interview with In the Gloss, where she talked a lot about her beauty regimen and makeup and her ideas about hair. It was a surprisingly entertaining piece (to me) and I was happy that K-Stew actually chatted about all of that stuff. Turns out, she?s contractually required to chat about it. Kristen also sat down with NY Magazine?s The Cut for another beauty/hair/makeup/perfume interview, and this one was also done with an eye towards promoting Rosabotanica and Florabotanica, the two Balenciaga scents she fronts. You can read The Cut piece here, but I?m including almost everything anyway:
In the Cut: How do you use scent as part of your acting process?
KS: Whenever I encounter a product that I?ve used on a previous movie, it will take me right back. [Snaps.] Sometimes there will be things I can?t use, even though it might work for a beauty regimen or something that works for the character. I?ll literally have to find another product to use. So, something like really basic dry shampoo. I used it on The Runaways, and Joan uses that as well. I couldn?t use it anymore. I was just too reminiscent. Also certain lotions, and Rosebud, that chapstick in a tub? Rosebud lip salve. I used that on some movie when I was younger and then I used it again. And then it was like Whoa. It was too much. But with fragrance, no, it?s not a huge part of my process.
What was your first scent memory?
My favorite flower is a gardenia. My grandma had a big gardenia bush. And gardenias aren?t that common. When you find them, it?s always like, Oh, nice. And it?s my favorite flower now too, because of that.
How was the creative process for Florabotanica different than Rosabotanica?
My involvement didn?t change much, to be honest. I get to use it. I have nothing to do with making the fragrance. I just get to stand by and watch people do awesome things. I?m really close with Nicolas [Ghesquire] and this whole story behind it has been really cool. You don?t always find, in fashion, such developed stories. Sometimes it?s a bit more about how something looks, and ends there. Or with fragrance, this is a pretty picture and sells this perfume. This is a little more fun because it is about telling a story. That?s why I?m into it and why I got into acting. Florabotanica and Rosabotanica have the same setting. But with Rosabotanica, it?s about someone who has turned from a wide-eyed, yet hungry, fresh, green person. It?s someone who has been in this extreme environment and survived it. She?s grown with it. She?s taken the aspects she?s appreciated out of that environment and ignored the rest. She becomes a part of her environment instead of becoming this Alice in Wonderland type of girl who?s looking around and doesn?t recognize anything. It?s growing on her.
What has surprised you about scent?
Probably that I like it? I was never really a fan of the idea of putting on some synthetic scent. I didn?t like the idea of it. But when I started using it, it became a part of me. It felt natural. Some perfumes just smell awful. They smell like your grandmother. This one never did to me. I genuinely use Flora all the time. Rosabotanica is a deeper scent to me than Flora. In this one, the rose is pretty strong. It?s [a] muskier fragrance. It?s the nighttime version, more serious. This is vague and kind of silly, but it?s like New York versus L.A. Or night versus day. Or red versus white. It?s the darker version of it.
What is your beauty routine like?
I use Proactiv. It works. It?s really good. I?ve used it for a long time. I?m reliant on it. I use their three-step [system]. And I try to moisturize more than I ever had. Apparently, that?s good for you. That?s about it. I drink a lot of water. Like, if you don?t drink water, you look awful. If you do, that?s a huge part of my ?beauty? regimen, I guess. I use mascara, eyeliner, and maybe some concealer. Chapstick. I don?t like color on my lips unless I?m doing full-on. I don?t do much with my hair. When I?m working, I treat it so often. There?s heat or color on it. When I?m not working, I just like to let it be healthy. I don?t wash it every day. I like to switch up my shampoo. I like Kerastase a lot. I like using, going back and forth, using fully organic. People give me a lot of shampoo and conditioner, so I?m always like, what is that? I don?t always necessarily know what I?m using.
So you?re not using hotel shampoo.
I hate when I forget shampoo and I have to use it. Only because afterwards it feels bone-dry.
How do you view beauty and your beauty regimen as part of your day-to-day routine?
I?m super lucky because my job allows me to have fun and take things to the extremes. When I?m not working, I have a really basic regimen. I don?t think too much about my clothes [gesturing]. I don?t wear a lot of makeup. I?m always striving to get to the point where I look like I?ve woken up in the last hour. You know that look you get when you?re fresh-faced? You?re a little puffy but looking really good? That?s what I like.
[From The Cut]
I really don?t care for most rose scents, but I LOVE gardenia scents. My current favorite is Estee Lauder?s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia, which is heavier on the gardenia than the tuberose. I can?t recommend that scent enough. It sort of sounds like Kristen isn?t as into Rosabotanica as she is Florabotanica ? which is fine. She?s a young woman, and I think those heavier scents are better left to mature women. Like, I don?t understand how anyone under the age of 40 can wear Opium. It?s just too heavy.
I love that everyone is always giving Kristen shampoo. Like, ?Wash your hair already, chica.? But she?s right about hotel shampoos ? they usually suck. I?ve never tried organic shampoos, mostly because I can get away with using the cheap stuff (I love Suave) and my hair will always look the same (Indian hair is the best).

Kristen Stewart made an appearance in Park City, Utah last week, to promote her film Camp X-Ray at the Sundance Film Festival. I read some assorted coverage here and there, and from what I could see, the film was not one of the out-of-nowhere buzzed-about films of the festival. Most reviewers gave Kristen a pat on the head for daring to try something new, but the film was generally panned for story and direction. Kristen did a lot of press for the film while in Sundance, and some of the interviews are still coming in. It seems like she sat down with In The Gloss for a lengthy conversation about hair, makeup, tomboy attire, and basic hygiene. In The Gloss published her comments like a first-person essay or something, so here you go:
?If you looked at pictures of me when I was 14 or 15, you couldn?t tell the difference between me and my brothers. I looked like a boy, fully. I really like extremes. I wear jeans and t-shirts and am a total tomboy, but at the same time, when I pull out all the stops [for an event], I want to f–king go for it, polarized in the other direction from my reality. Everything Balenciaga makes is beautiful; watching their runway shows is like watching a movie. But wearing it is not the easiest thing. It?s tough to integrate that type of thing into your life. But when you can do it?wear something unexpected, with your personal style?it?s incredibly badass.
I still really don?t know how to do my own makeup. I do the same thing every day, if I do my own: mascara and black eyeliner. I?m a bit of a raccoon?I already have dark eyes?so I just make them a little bit darker. One of my makeup artists, Jill Dempsey, made an eyeliner that I really dig, but I don?t think she?s making any more, which is a bummer. I just use whatever black liner. There?s a pencil that you can get at Topshop that?s cheap, so I?ll get, like, five of them, and they last forever and they?re really, really good. I do both the top and bottom line and then just smudge it with my finger. I don?t have a favorite mascara, genuinely. I like it clumpy, though?I?ll use anything if it?s clumpy, black, and it works. I don?t mind it being really cakey and heavy.
If I?m being responsible, I?ll wash my face, but I never take off my eyeliner or my mascara because it looks so good the next day. It?s a continuous thing; I think I?ve never really had clean eyes. [Laughs] For my skin, I use the whole Proactiv system. It really, really works for me; I?ve used it since I was a teenager, a young teenager. I feel like I?m a total spokesperson for them because it really did help me and I?m always telling people, ?Oh, dude!? and mentioning it in interviews, but I can?t imagine doing one of their commercials. I don?t think they?d want me to, to be honest. Better in print. [Laughs]
If I wasn?t an actor, I would definitely do things to my hair. I would cut it more, I would dye it more. At some point I want to do a total boy cut, completely?not a pretty, girly version?like a straight up James Dean haircut. And then, I?m definitely going to shave my head before I die. I will definitely tattoo my head while it?s shaved before my hair grows back. I?m not sure which part, probably the bottom quadrant in the back. I don?t know what the tattoo would be, yet. Still thinking.
I try not to force anything. For a shoot, if you can find one or two things that make you genuinely smile, it helps, rather than trying to think about taking beautiful photos. Because, in the moment, you?re literally so surrounded, you can?t think about every angle. I just try to breathe through it. It?s not my favorite thing, but I?ve gotten better than when I was younger. If you feel comfortable, you?ll look comfortable. For example, I feel like when I put my arm up, I?m not comfortable. That?s like a, ?Oh, f–k, I don?t know what to do with myself? look. Usually, if I?m feeling it and I?m comfortable, hands are down. I try to act natural.
I, personally, want to stay neutral so that I?m in a perfect position to, it sounds lame, but to transform myself for a role. If a project comes up and I?ve already got a shaved head, it would be a problem; I hate wearing wigs. But the way I choose roles anyway is very gut-oriented.
As long as I feel solid about my creative choices, people can have whatever image or perception of me that they?d like. You can?t think that someone?s impression of you is wrong?it?s their impression?and, therefore, you really can?t worry about it. So many people have developed their impressions based on f–king bulls–t, and you?ll never do anything true to yourself, you?ll never make the art you want to make, if you?re concerned about that. At the same time, I?m a 23 year-old. I like clothes, but that?s not because I?m like, ?Oh my god! I need to stay relevant!? [Laughs]?
[From In the Gloss]
Believe it or not, I kind of love this piece. I?m not even being an ironic hipster, it?s-so-awful-so-I-love-it kind of fan either. I wish this is how Kristen was in interviews all the time ? full of herself yet vulnerable, weird but not trying-too-hard, and incredibly girly. Like, she talks a big game about wanting to be the big tomboy, but she still loves talking about makeup and hair and posing for photos. She will never be a perfect princess girly-girl and that?s fine. But I prefer this all-over-the-place Kristen to Monosyllabic Kristen or Artiste Kristen.
I haven?t worn eye makeup in years (literally), but when I did wear it, I always used my mom?s makeup removal trick, which was Vaseline and a tissue. It?s that easy to take off your eye makeup, plus I believe the Vaseline helps your delicate eyelid skin. I don?t think it?s a big deal to sleep in your eyeliner, but sleeping in your mascara is pretty gross (not to mention crunchy). I?d hate to see Kristen?s pillowcases.

Here is Kristen Stewart wearing double denim as she walked through Burbank airport.
The short sleeves on her top meant that she was able to show off the large ‘eye’ tattoo which she had re-inked on her forearm, shortly after Thanksgiving.
She didn’t seem to give a f**k that the papz would be waiting to snap her photo, but that’s what makes her so one-of-a-kind!.

Getting ready to head out of town, Kristen Stewart arrived at Burbank Airport on Thursday (January 16).
The "Twilight" star went low-key in a black T-shirt, denim vest, and blue skinnies as she made her way through the busy terminal with her bodyguard.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, the 23-year-old actress will soon star in a film adaptation of George Orwell's "1984," called "Equals."
In a recent interview, Kristen explained, "I can't believe I agreed to do it. I'm terrified of it. Though it's a movie with a really basic concept, it's overtly ambitious."

Remember when Kristen Stewart?s fans thought she would get an Oscar nomination for On the Road? Remember when they were mad that Kristen would deign to present at the Oscars when Twilight had been so badly snubbed from all of the major awards shows? Anyway, I was just thinking about that. I was thinking? ?I wonder what Kristen Stewart thinks when she looks at Jennifer Lawrence?s fast-and-furious Hollywood trajectory?? I bet there?s a heavy dose of ?better her than me? in Kristen?s thought process, but I bet there?s also some wistfulness and jealousy, mostly about the roles Jennifer Lawrence has been offered and the acclaim Lawrence has garnered.
So, Jennifer Lawrence was offered a part in Drake Doremus?s new film, Equals. It?s a reimagining of George Orwell?s 1984 as a love story, I think (the source material seems sort of convoluted). Jennifer Lawrence had other stuff to do and I guess she wasn?t that jazzed about the part, so she turned it down and the part was offered to Kristen Stewart. I guess Kristen felt like the story was important enough (because we know the reason she didn?t work for two years is because she CHOSE not to work, right?), because now Kristen is doing the film with Nicholas Hoult, J-Law?s boyfriend. Girl Dramz!
Kristen Stewart is hooking up with Jennifer Lawrence’s boyfriend . . . on the big screen. The 23-year-old actress has signed on to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in the upcoming futuristic love story Equals. In a recent interview with The Associated Press, Stewart explains why she’s nervous to take on the part.
“I can’t believe I agreed to do it,” Stewart told The Associated Press on Monday, Jan. 14. “I’m terrified of it. Though it’s a movie with a really basic concept, it’s overtly ambitious.”
“It’s a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion,” she added. “I’m scared.”
Equals is an adaptation of the 1956 film 1984, which itself was based on George Orwell’s classic novel about rebellion in a futuristic society. The project begins filming later this year with director Drake Doremus, who also directed Lawrence, 23, in 2011?s Like Crazy.
“I trust Drake’s process and I know we will do something really natural and real,” Stewart said. “But I told Drake, ‘Don’t expect that I am going to be able to do this. It’s too hard.’ But he wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. I’ve given directors disclaimers before, but never this much.”
Doremus has complete confidence in his leading stars, telling The Associated Press, “It became evident in my head that Nick and Kristen would have great chemistry.” The director did confess, however, that Lawrence first read the script and was brought to tears by it, but couldn’t see herself in the role. (Lawrence and Hoult, 24, rekindled their romance back in July. The X-Men: Days of Future Past costars had previously split in January following a two-year romance. Stewart, meanwhile, split from real-life boyfriend and Twilight costar Robert Pattinson back in May.)
Twilight star Stewart and Hunger Games star Lawrence were rumored to be feuding back in March 2012, but the leading ladies denied the reports and hung out together at the Toronto Film Festival in September. “She’s so cool,” Stewart told MTV News of spending time with Lawrence. “I was a lot younger than her when I first sort of entered this world of franchise land, and I don’t know, I guess we sort of both went, ‘Wow, this is so weird.’ We were actually sitting in a corner with [Harry Potter star] Emma Watson as well, the three of us. We were like, ‘Wow, this is strange. This is really cool.’”
“I think people assume that actresses don’t want to [be friends],” Stewart added. “It was kind of a great feeling, to be honest. I was like, ‘This is kind of just awesome.’”
[From Us Weekly]
?Though it’s a movie with a really basic concept, it’s overtly ambitious.? Thought an actress of rather basic talent, Kristen is overtly ambitious. I don?t know, that line just bugged me. I know the gossip-scandal that we should be focusing on is probably something involving Kristen Stewart banging Nicholas Hoult in the back of a Mini Cooper, but I?m not really feeling it. I mean, I think she would go there but I kind of doubt Nicholas would. He seems like a sweetheart and he seems to be into Jennifer. Anyway, this film sounds like a mess. Kristen Stewart lip-biting her way through a dystopian romance? No thanks. Let?s see if it even gets made, being so overtly ambitious.

Stepping out for an evening of fun, Kristen Stewart stopped by Covell Wine Bar in Los Feliz on Monday (January 13).
The "Twilight" beauty dressed down in a sweat shirt and baseball hat as she showed her distaste for the shutterbugs lingering outside the restaurant by giving them the finger as she drove away.
Meanwhile, Miss Stewart announced she might be rethinking her decision to be in Drake Doremus' upcoming film "Equals."
During a recent interview, Kristen described "Equals" as being the latest film adaption to George Orwell's classic novel "1984."
"I can't believe I agreed to do it," the 23-year-old actress revealed. "I'm terrified of it. Though it's a movie with a really basic concept, it's overtly ambitious."
She continued, "In 'Equals,' things go wrong because you can't deny the humanity in everyone. It's the most devastating story."
Despite her thoughts about the film, Kristen will continue to be apart of the production. "I trust Drake's process and I know we will do something really natural and real. But I told Drake, 'Don't expect that I am going to be able to do this. It's too hard.' But he wouldn't take 'no' for an answer. I've given directors disclaimers before, but never this much."

Here are some photos of Kristen Stewart out and about in Beverly Hills over the weekend. According to Fame/Flynet, ?Kristen stopped by a library and then by a newsstand. She carried with her a bottle of Smart Water and a piece of paper that said ‘We The People’.? What does it all mean?! Kristen has a library card! Kristen reads magazines! Kristen drinks SmartWater! So much to analyze. I?m not sure where Robert Pattinson is these days, but I hope he?s still in England and I?ve heard some rumors that he?s moving on from Kristen. Let?s hope. Let?s also hope that Kristen realizes that the end has come, because I kind of want to see who her next boyfriend would be too.
Anyway, Kristen is still the face of Balenciaga?s fragrances. She?s done campaigns for Florabotanica, and she recently shot a campaign for the new fragrance, Rosabotanica. I?m including the new print ad at the end of the post! To promote the campaign, Kristen spoke to Flare Mag about working for Balenciaga, and about her ART. She drops two f-bombs within the first three sentences. ART.
It?s been a tough year for Twihards. The film series ended, Robsten split, and neither Kristen Stewart nor Robert Pattinson has graced the screen since. But wait: Stewart?s angsty lip curl can now be spotted on a new crop of Balenciaga ads for Rosabotanica (Florabotanica?s follow-up scent), where her stony, smoky-eyed stare contrasts the vivid floral vines creeping over her shoulder. The spicy rose-pepper blend aptly reflects the non-conformist personality the 23-year-old?s fans have come to adore. Stewart?s F-bombed frankness and red-carpet Chuck Taylors are some of her best assets?because they?re real.
?I had looked at the fashion world as superficial,? she admits when asked about her collaboration with Balenciaga?s former creative director Nicolas Ghesquire, whom she considers a ?true artist.?
?Before the photo shoot I did with him, it was always f–king torture,? she says of studio sessions. It?s this passion-first attitude that precipitated a gutsy two-year acting hiatus. ?Unless there?s a story that you just f–king have to help bring to life, it?s not worth it,? she explains. Two roles have lured her back. In Sils Maria, she portrays a personal assistant to a troubled, aging actress, played by real-life Oscar winner Juliette Binoche. And in Camp X-Ray, a drama set in Guantanamo Bay, she plays a simple girl with unwavering ideals who realizes life isn?t black-and-white. ?Her eyes are smashed open, and I know that feeling,? Stewart says, hinting, perhaps, at last year?s troubles.
As Twi fans wait for those flicks and her newly announced Chanel fashion campaign to be released later this year, they continue to beg, via tear-filled YouTube tirades, for a Bella-and-Edward reunion, be it fictional or real. Meanwhile, gossip blogs speculate daily about the pair?s on-again, off-again status.
?They cast you as easily identifiable characters they can sell to the masses,? says Stewart. ?When people pick up newspapers and read perfect summaries of my life in little concise stories, it?s kind of silly. Can anyone?s life be put into words like that?? Stewart is far from one-dimensional, and it?s that sense of mystery that keeps us hooked. A rose any less thorny surely wouldn?t be as sweet.
[From Flare]
LOL: ?It?s this passion-first attitude that precipitated a gutsy two-year acting hiatus.? Yes. I guess that?s how she?s going to play it? She?s CHOSEN not to work because she?s such a ballsy, creative artist who cares so deeply in her art. It?s not that no one wanted to work with her lip-biting, married-man-banging ass. Which was the bigger deterrent for Hollywood: that she and Rupert Saunders had such a huge affair that was revealed in such a huge way, or that Kristen has the emotional range of a peanut?
Also: ?Before the photo shoot I did with him, it was always f–king torture.? Chica has a problem with hyperbole. That?s what I?ve come to realize. We shouldn?t take her words literally.

She?s the face of Balenciaga?s fabulous fragrance Rosabotanica, and Kristen Stewart isn?t afraid to do whatever it takes to make an impression.
The ?Snow White and the Huntsman? hottie is featured in a new black and white ad and she?s topless with the exception of a colorful flowery vine.
Back in 2012, Kristen began working with Balenciaga?s fragrance division, telling Women?s Wear Daily that she felt ?lucky? to have scored the Florabotanica gig.
Stewart explained, ?There is something natural about it. It?s very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it ? considering that I?ve never worn a scent ? it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ?Whoa, check me out."'
