The Hypocrisy Police came out in force yesterday when Zooey Deschanel announced her pregnancy. I didn?t even remember Zooey having a lot of quotes about not wanting children, but then I looked through our archives? and yeah. Okay. I see it now. First, the happy news. Zooey is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Jacob Pechnik. Zooey confirmed the news to People, saying: ?Jacob and I are over the moon. We are so excited to meet our little one.?
She?s due this summer, and New Girl probably won?t be affected that much. Like, they?re not going to make Jess pregnant. Zooey will finish filming this season for the next few months, then she?ll give birth over the hiatus and maybe the next season?s premiere will be pushed back a month or two. You can read more about it here on E! ? I think it?s interesting that they?re taking such pains to say that the show won?t be affected. When Zooey?s sister Emily got pregnant with her first kid, it really screwed up Bones. They had to make the character pregnant and the schedule got really messed up and it took Bones like two seasons to get back on track.
Now, on to the Hypocrisy Police. Back in 2012, Zooey told Marie Claire that having kids has ?never been my focus? and that motherhood was ?never an ambition? I like working. That?s what I like doing. I like to work.? Then, in 2014, she talked about getting the ?do you want babies? question all the time. She said:
?When I was married, that was the first thing people wanted to know. Like every woman is dying to give birth! I don?t think so. Nobody asks guys that. And you go into a supermarket and every tabloid is like, ?Pregnant and Alone!? Stuck in this 1950s ideal of how a woman should live her life. This brings out the fiery feminist in me. That?s not something that defines me at all.??

So, is Zooey a terrible, terrible hypocrite? Eh. I think she was defending her life choices at the time, and now those life choices have changed (because choice is choice). She was standing up for the idea of being childfree. She was defending people who do not have that maternal urge. And that was then. And this is now. I don?t think she should be bashed for saying what she said then.

Putting her own touch on an American classic, Zooey Deschanel launched her collection with Tommy Hilfiger at Macy's in New York City on Monday (April 14).
The "New Girl" star looked adorable as usual in a long-sleeved white polka-dotted dress and pointy heels as she plugged "To Tommy From Zooey" on the red carpet.
Excited to share her new project with fans, the 34-year-old actress/singer tweeted, "Thanks to everyone who showed up to Macy?s in NYC today to check out the #ToTommyFromZooey collection!"
Of the capsule collection of 16 dresses, Zooey tells USA Today, "It's really fun because it's new. It doesn't feel like work."

She?s the cute and quirky star of ?New Girl,? and Zooey Deschanel is emerging as one of the hottest designers of the Spring 2014 season.
This morning (April 14) the ?Failure to Launch? babe showed up at ?Good Morning America? in New York City to talk about her new collection From Zooey to Tommy with the Tommy Hilfiger label.
Ms. Deschanel explained that she was able to bring some experience to the table- ?Yeah, I actually grew up sewing a lot of my own clothes. So I had a little bit of a background in creating fashion- homemade fashion.?
?There were a lot of details that I had used on dresses I had made. It was a really great collaboration with Tommy [Hilfiger] because he has so much experience, he?s such a great mentor, he had so many great ideas. And then he was really collaborative and he let me put my own spin on everything.?

She managed to nab him for a cameo on her show earlier this year, and now Zooey Deschanel and Prince's duet "FALLINLOVE2NITE" is available for fans.
Back in January, the post-Super Bowl episode of "New Girl" grabbed massive ratings thanks to the starpower of the Purple One.
Of course, the 34-year-old star is no stranger to the microphone herself as she's one-half of the hit indie duo She & Him with M. Ward.
Check out their tune below, which Zooey introduced on Twitter, announcing, "For those of you asking - here?s the song I was lucky enough to sing on with Prince!"

Zooey Deschanel covers the new issue of Lucky. This is one of oddest editorials I?ve ever seen with Zooey. Usually, magazine stylists do her in some variation of her real style: quirky hipster/girlish high schooler. But I guess Lucky decided: ?Let?s do something with CATS!? And they also chose to mess with her bangs too. Odd. Not unpleasant, but odd. Anyway, Zooey just talks about clothes and stuff in the interview, which is fine because it?s Lucky Magazine, a magazine devoted to shopping, not geopolitics. Some highlights from the piece:
Judging people by their clothes: ?Fashion is a way of communicating. You?re saying, ?Hi, world! How are you? This is me today. Take me or leave me!???
Typecast as the quirky hipster/twee girl: ?The funny thing is, people think I never break out of this one box. I like what I like. It has nothing to do with trends or being a slave to fashion. Sometimes things will be in style and they?re classic and look great, and sometimes ?? She trails off, before resuming in a voice solemn enough to deliver the nightly news, ?I think it?s important to recognize when fashion has gone to a place that isn?t cute.?
She?s always loved dresses: ?I remember playing in the dirt when I was two years old. My mom took me back to the car to change me into a clean outfit, and I started crying because I had to put on jeans. I knew I liked dresses. I was always very aware of clothes.?
Learning to shop at thrift stores: ?I realized that you can actually spend very little money and put something together that looks great and sets you apart. Being able to express myself through fashion made me confident.?
Teenage years: ?There?s a picture of me I wish I could find. I would buy these big, cheap, fluffy ?50s prom dresses from thrift stores and just put them on with a tiara and sit and type at my computer. My room was a total messy-teenager disaster area, but I?d have on a vintage dress and my hair would be perfect.?
She wears men?s-style PJ?s with piping: ?I want to look cute while I?m sleeping.?
Dressing for your body: ?If you look at anyone with great style?Jackie Onassis, Audrey Hepburn?they have certain silhouettes that they don?t really stray from. It?s not like Audrey Hepburn was running around in a bunch of giant shoulder-padded dresses. I have narrow shoulders and a small rib cage, so some things just swallow me up and make me look frumpy.?
Fashion don?ts: You won?t catch her in blousy ?80s cuts (?not flattering, in my opinion?) or certain colors. ?I hate to say it, but chartreuse is an ugly color?it just is,? she says, appearing momentarily concerned that she might alienate some militant faction of chartreuse constituents. And forget about anything too revealing. ?Daisy Dukes are not for people over 30. I?m just going to go out on a limb and say that right now.?
Her new partnership with Tommy Hilfiger: ?I?ve always wanted to design my own clothes, and it was important that they?d be affordable. I didn?t want to exclude anyone. The dresses are really fun.?
Follow your gut: ?If you feel unhappy putting on your clothes, that?s not the way it should be. Sometimes the fashion world can get overly serious. The whole point is that it should make you feel good about yourself. If it doesn?t, walk away.?

See? I told you it was just about clothes. My favorite line: ?I think it?s important to recognize when fashion has gone to a place that isn?t cute.? TRUTH. There are some especially awful trends happening in fashion these days that are as bad ? if not worse ? than a lot of the worst fads from the 1980s. I?m sorry, but very few women really look good in skinny jeans. And peplums are actually terrible. Satin shoes should be reserved for bridesmaids. Mullet dresses should be shunned, always. Cutouts are usually awkward. And you should rethink your thick, blunt bangs. There. I recognized when fashion has gone to a place that isn?t cute.
Also ? I love her burn on chartreuse. YES. There?s only one charteuse gown that ever worked, and that?s the exception to the rule.

Looking sunny as usual, Zooey Deschanel filmed a beach scene for "New Girl" in Los Angeles on Thursday (January 23).
The 34-year-old actress donned a yellow and white striped dress and matching heels as she walked the set between takes.
Just the day before, the pretty pixie was at the Elle Women in Television issue party, along with "The Mindy Project" star, Mindy Kaling.
Speaking about her inspiration at the event, Zooey shared, "Watching '30 Rock' was what made me want to get into TV because I watched that show and I thought, 'God, that actually looks like fun.' I watched that show and I just thought how great TV comedy could be at its apex. Now there are so many great shows, it?s amazing."

Have you been watching the new season (Season 3) of New Girl? I have. And I am full of disappointment. Many of you know that I became a Zooey Deschanel apologist and defender because I enjoyed New Girl so much the first two seasons ? mostly because of Season 1, which (I think) was still the strongest season. But cracks began to show in Season 2, and this current season has been flat-out awful, right? It?s like the writers have no idea what to do with some of these characters. I don?t blame it on Jess and Nick (spoiler) finally getting together ? if anything, that?s why I?m still watching. But the Winston and Schmidt storylines have been the pits, and bringing back Coach (the amazingly talented Damon Wayans Jr, who is one of the most gifted comedic actors in TV today) could have been great, but the writers still don?t know what to do with him.
All this time, I had been blaming the writers for the sucky storylines that just seem to go nowhere, but Radar says that someone else might be to blame for New Girl?s current problems. Radar?s sources claim Zooey is being a major pill on the set:
Zooey Deschanel has gone from new girl to mean girl on her sitcom set! The actress ? who?s starring on and producing her third season of FOX?s New Girl ? has become a nasty boss who treats her co-workers badly, the production insider reveals.
?Although the show has other bosses, including creator Liz Meriwether and producer Katherine Pope, Zooey rules the roost,? the source dishes. ?And she gets moody and starts making rules on the set which is upsetting a lot of the cast and crew members.
?The show?s schedule really drives Zooey up a wall, because they?re always running behind when the full cast is on set. So now, Zooey insists on days ending with scenes that just feature her and one other actor. When that can?t happen due to the production schedule, however, she?s unhappy and all hell breaks loose,? says the source.
Her co-workers hope they?ll get a reprieve from Deschanel?s bad behavior when they get a special guest star. As has been reported, former The O.C. star Adam Brody will play Deschanel?s character Jess? ex-boyfriend for an upcoming episode.

This doesn?t feel quite right. This doesn?t feel like an actress playing The Diva Card, it seems more like Zooey finding her footing as a producer? Because a producer is supposed to keep everyone on schedule, and a producer is supposed to be ?the bad guy? and the scapegoat for whatever gripes the crew has. That is, if this story is even true. Maybe Zooey is just in such a bad mood because her once-awesome show sucks. I still think it?s a writers? room problem, not a Zooey problem.

She's a huge fan of the holiday season, but despite the family fun that comes with Thanksgiving, Zooey Deschanel just can't get behind the big feast.
In an interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Monday, the "New Girl" star admitted, "Thanksgiving I love for the family togetherness. I don't love the food... Most of it's beige or gray, which I just don't find appetizing."
To back up her point, she went on, "So you have like your turkey which is beige, stuffing: beige, mashed potatoes: off-white, pumpkin pie is like orange-beige. It's a lot of beige."
Later, she refers to stuffing as "salty, wet, soggy bread" and claims that chicken or duck are superior poultry to turkey. Perhaps she can instead get Siri to find her some tomato soup. Check out her controversial opinion in the player below.

Here are some photos of Zooey Deschanel at the Fox Eco Casino event on Monday evening. I am digging her summery white dress that would have looked bland if not for the bow-tied leather belt and the cool lace detailing at the bottom. It’s all in the details, you know? Zooey is great at hunting out cute, vintag-y dresses like this one. The Pink shoes are a bit much with the butterfly wings, but overall, this fits Zooey’s signature style.
Zooey sat down with the newish MAKERS website, which is run by PBS and AOL and celebrates the “pioneering contributes by women” covering the last five decades. She talks all about sexism in Hollywood and how girly girls are often considered to be unintelligent and incapable of fending for themselves. Zooey has previously spoken in terms of feeling dismissed because she dresses in a very feminine manner and likes to wear pink. Now she’s discussing how this attitude extends into Hollywood roles for women:
On sexism: “It’s sexist to think that somebody can?t act in a girly way or speak the way I want to speak or to assume that I’m not a strong and intelligent woman because of my appearance.”
On The New Girl: “I was attracted to The New Girl because I hadn’t read a part this great for a woman in a really long time. I liked the fact that this was a female character who was emotional, who was girly. It was so refreshing to get to do a role that is sorta the clown. That was something that I could always do but never had the chance to do because, you know, you’re playing someone’s girlfriend or friend who’s shaking their finger and normal.”
On her teen years: “I did the opposite of what people do. I was a wild, crazy kid and then I became sort of composed and disciplined as a teenager. When I was 17, I wrote a letter to Vogue about an article they titled, ‘America’s Beauty Ideal.’ I don?t think any woman should have to feel as if she needs to shove herself into an ‘ideal’ to be beautiful. Beauty should be something that is celebrated and something that is enjoyable, not something that people should feel uncomfortable about achieving…”
Her early career sucked: “As soon as I got my driver’s license, I was out there after school driving myself to auditions. I was terrible for that first year of auditions. I was nervous, and I would shake. I was terrified, so I sort of needed to get my sea legs. My audition legs.”

I think it took a lot of balls for Zooey to write a letter to Vogue at age 17. I’m sure the magazine didn’t even glance a second at the contents since it didn’t fit their agenda, but how many other 17-year-old girls would have bothered to make such an objection. Not many.
Zooey is already hard at work on the third season of The New Girl. She did movies for several years, so she probably relishes the stable schedule provided by television.
