The lovely Isla Fisher covers the spring issue of Gotham magazine to promote her (thankless) role of Myrtle Wilson in The Great Gatsby. I don’t expect this post to gather much interest like most posts on parenthood simply because poor Isla has fallen by the wayside in Hollywood. She was really cute and funny in Wedding Crashers several years ago, but then she signed up for some terrible flops like Confessions of a Shopaholic and settled into voice work while also taking some time off to raise her two children with husband Sacha Baron Cohen. I get the feeling that a lot of people confused Isla with Amy Adams for awhile, but Amy’s career has really taken off in the past handful of years while Isla’s has languished somewhat. Now Isla returns in Gatsby, and she’s also appearing later this year alongside Morgan Freeman and Woody Harrelson in Now You See Me. OH, and she’s also in post-production on an untitled Elmore Leonard project in the role of Melanie Ralston, who was played in Jackie Brown by Bridget Fonda (who herself has pulled a decade-long disappearing act). Weird.
In this Gotham shoot, Isla is styled right out of the Jazz Age with a fringy, flapper-esque dress and a couple of floaty, ethereal gowns. She looks entirely gorgeous, and the interview is slightly eventful as well as she admits to being completely overwhelmed by the experience of filming Gatsby alongside Baz Luhrmann and actors like Leo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Isla also discusses the extended break she took from Hollywood to have two daughters and stay at home with them during their respective infancies. Like Drew Barrymore’s recent declaration that you can’t have it all in terms of maintaining both career and motherhood, Isla expresses her belief that you shouldn’t even want to have it all. Here are some excerpts:
Working on The Great Gatsby: “It was thrilling and terrifying. Given the caliber of the director and cast on Gatsby, I definitely felt out of my comfort zone. I did feel like I was going to be called out and sent home at some point–you always feel very insecure, at least I do. The set was like a playground of rich costumes (his wife Catherine Martin does them) and color and music and laughter. Everybody cares on a Baz Luhrmann film set because everyone is so effing grateful to be there.”
Will she ever collaborate with hubby Sacha Baron Cohen? “Personally, I think we collaborate on enough behind closed doors. We’re working on some really important collaborations, and I think that?s more important. Obviously, I’m a big fan of his. My favorite movie will always be Bruno, and my favorite line will always be when he looks up at the sky and goes, ‘So many stars in the sky. Makes you think of all the hot guys in the world.’ So freaking random and funny.”
On balancing work & motherhood: “I took three years off. It’s not like you’re taking a break and looking on IMDbPro to see your StarMeter falling. You’re doing the most important, incredible thing. When you come back in, the perspective has changed. I truly believe you can’t have it all and you shouldn’t want to.”

Hmm. I certainly don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to have it all because I think most women do. I think most of us would love to find enough hours in the day to make a ton of money while still managing to be the perfectly attentive mother as well, but that’s just not possible. Something always has to give even if it’s just a matter of a few hours of sleep. Even Ivanka Trump, who is on the extreme end of working motherhood with her 16-hour work days, doesn’t really have it all, but she has enough of what she wants to make it work for her.
More and more these days, it sucks to realize that women will always be judged for their respective choices in the working motherhood discussion. It seems that you can either have an amazing career and miss some of your kid’s milestone moments, or you can be a stay-at-home mom and sacrifice financial stability and a retirement fund. It’s a tough choice for sure, and there’s some middle ground there but not much to be found. Of course, men are rarely faced with the same choice, but that won’t be changing anytime soon.

From her secret to post-pregnancy weight lost, “I do watch my food. But I?ve been blessed in that I never had any body issues during pregnancy. I loved being able to eat whatever I wanted and the whole experience of giving life. And I never worried about losing the weight afterwards, becausebreastfeedingburns all the calories up so fast.Breastfeeding? that?s my big slimming secret! That and Spanx. Anytime anyone compliments me on my figure, I?m wearing my Spanx undies.”
To her friends secretly thinking she’s a cokehead,”I had to ask my friends, ?What?s cocaine like?? And they all thought I was on it already because I talk so much and am so hyperactive!” (Way to out your friends on that one.)
To not giving her vagina spa treatments which she calls “vajacials,” “I?m not actually very good at the maintenance thing. I don?t buff, exfoliate, pluck, rinse, moisturise, suck, bleach?whatever all those women do. I don?t have vajacials. Have you heard of those? It?s like a spa for your vagina!”
That last quote sort of gave a pause for concern. She makes it sound like she takes the man approach to cleanliness which is to only take care of something when it starts smelling funky. It’s probably not true though. Hopefully it’s not true. Oh god, please be not true.

Isla Fisher covers the new issue of Women?s Health magazine ? probably a holdover interview from when The Great Gatsby was supposed to be released during the holidays (it?s since been pushed back). My feelings towards Isla? well, I?m not one of her fan-girls, but I don?t actively dislike her or anything. She looks a lot like Amy Adams, and I think Amy is way more talented, but Isla seems like she carved out a nice little career for herself too. What I didn?t realize was that Isla is actually a pretty good interview. Usually, she barely speaks to the press about anything personal (she and Sacha Baron Cohen are notoriously private), but this interview is really good. Isla mentions a term that I?ve never heard before ? ?vajacials?. As in, facials for your vadge. We?ll discuss that below, and here are some highlights from the interview:
Isla on converting to Judaism before her 2010 marriage to Sacha Baron Cohen: ‘It takes a couple of years of studying. I’ve always been really into family and food, so culturally it was the right fit for me.’
Her early career: ‘After doing that [Wedding Crashers], I had 12 months where I was auditioning three times a day and I didn?t get a single job. That was a real low point. But with hindsight, those movies turned out to be awful, so I dodged a bullet. If I?d got any of them, I wouldn?t be where I am today. I never had the chutzpah to just come to LA and make it. I didn?t have that confidence. I?m always surprised when I get a job. I never saw this in my horizon.’

I am sort of friends with them all. I just did a movie with Hugh Jackman [Rise Of The Guardians], and I catch up with Naomi [Watts] whenever I?m in New York.?
On Johnny Depp: ‘He?s like a magical creature ? incredibly funny, clever and nice. It?s sort of as if he?s come from another planet.?

This idea of a ?vajacial? is so interesting. Obviously, it would not include exfoliating, right? Gross. But maybe a mud treatment for your biscuit? Some pampering? I?m intrigued. I wonder if my biscuit would like her own spa treatment. I?ve been thinking about getting her a vibrator, actually. She?s asked for one for Christmas. Maybe I?ll also get her a gift certificate for a vajacial! Shhh? don?t tell her.

Getting a little caffeine to jump start her day, Isla Fisher stopped at Starbucks in Beverly Hills on Monday morning (October 15).
The "Wedding Crashers" star looked cute in a white and black blouse, gray miniskirt, and beige heels with a brown purse slung over her shoulder.
Recently, the 36-year-old Australian actress was announced to be joining the cast of "Arrested Development" for its fourth season that will appear on Netflix.
Along with the red-haired beauty, other guest appearances will be made by John Slattery and Terry Crews.

Looking fully focused in the thick of their workday, costars Jesse Eisenberg and Isla Fisher were spotted on the New York City set of "Now You See Me" this afternoon (March 23).
Both clad in a light jackets and blue jeans, the talented twosome could be seen chatting amongst one another as they shot a take along of the Big Apple's busy streets.
As for the thriller itself, it is said to center on "FBI agents track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money."
Due in theaters January 18, 2013, "Now You See Me" also stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Cane, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman and Dave Franco.

Getting cozy with her costar, Isla Fisher filmed scenes on the Sydney, Australia set of "The Great Gatsby" earlier today (October 26).
Steaming up the set, the 35-year-old actress - who plays mistress Myrtle Wilson in the adaption - donned a slinky red ensemble as she got up close and personal with Joel Edgerton.
Also starring Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio, the film got underway with production earlier this month.
Under the direction of Baz Luhrmann, "The Great Gatsby" is scheduled to make its theatrical debut on Christmas Day 2012.

Looking to join alongside a star-studded cast, Isla Fisher is currently in negotiations to join Baz Lurhmann?s 3D adaptation of "The Great Gatsby."
According to THR, the "Wedding Crashers" actress would play Myrtle - a married woman having an affair Buchanan, who is later killed by a speeding car.
If her role is confirmed, the 35-year-old would hit the set with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, and possibly Ben Affleck, who is also said to be in negotiations.
Isla's recent cinematic efforts include the animated film "Rango," in which she lent her voice, along with her starring role in the horror flick "Burke and Hare."

The ?Confessions of a Shopaholic? actress looked fabulous in a leggy black and grey getup as she promoted her upcoming movie ?Rango.?
During the course of the interview, Isla helped Fallon attempt a new world record involving a frozen breakfast treat.
Jimmy announced, ?We?re going to set the record for total number of frozen waffles stacked in two hands,? to which Isla replied, ?My dad would be so proud of me right now.?
