Unable to make their opposite schedules work out, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have ended their relationship.
While few details concerning the pair’s decision to call it quits have been made public, the pair had rarely been seen together for the past month - leading to speculation of troubled times.
Prior to breaking things off, Reese told InStyle in October, “We spend the weekends outside L.A, in Ojai, where I have a farmhouse. We have chickens and we grow cucumbers and tomatoes. I love it. It reminds me of where I grew up in Tennessee.”
Witherspoon, 33, and Gyllenhaal, 28, were first rumored to be a couple after co-starring in “Rendition” back in 2007 - with Reese coming off of her divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe.

Making the most of a beautiful summer day, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal were spotted out for a romantic stroll yesterday (August 30).
The blissful couple looked to be very much in love as they made their way down Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California, trying to ignore the nearby paparazzi.

Reese Witherspoon has been in Washington, DC the past few weeks filming How Do You Know, a film written and directed by one of my favorite writer/directors of all time, James L. Brooks. Brooks is known as an all-around great guy to work with and for, and his best known films include As Good As It Gets, Broadcast News (one of my favorite films of all time), and Terms of Endearment.
While seemingly solo in Washington, Reese was running all over town with her bitchface permanently intact. But her boyfriend/fiance/whatever Jake Gyllenhaal finally came for a visit, and suddenly the bitchface disappeared! Hurray! These are pictures of Jake and Reese looking all lovey-dovey around town. Sigh. They really do look happy. Sometimes I do wonder if they?re for real - most days I think they are.
How Do You Know has Reese working with Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, and James Brooks? favorite, Jack Nicholson. I wonder if Reese and Jack have any scenes together. I wonder if they will even get along - Reese is not Jack?s kind of girl. Jack?s kind of girl is someone like Sienna Miller. I bet they?d get along famously. But I?d also guess that Reese is so much of a professional, she?s probably on her best behavior when she?s around a living legend like Jack. Perhaps she can introduce Jack to Jake. I can’t even imagine what those two would have to say to each other. Jack would probably make a Brokeback joke. Oh, no. That wouldn’t be pretty.

Rumors about the engagement/impending marriage of Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are a dime a dozen. Every couple of months, a new round begins, sometimes even with a new twist on the old story. Personally, I really like Reese and Jake, and I think they love each other and know what they?re doing. If they get married, great. If not, I understand. My reading of the situation has always been that Reese is gun-shy after her devastating divorce to Ryan Phillippe.
So, onto the latest rumor! This comes from In Touch Weekly, and I just found it very cute. Reese and Jake haven?t even formally gotten engaged, but Reese already has her dress picked out! What made it really funny for me is that Reese picked out a dress, making sure that her daughter Ava could wear an identical, miniature version. Considering Ava is already the Mini-Me version of Reese, the matching dresses could be overkill:

?Reese has picked out the gown she?s going to wear when she and Jake [Gyllenhaal] finally get married,? says a pal of the actress?. ?It?s an unconventional color just like Gwen Stefani?s, and her daughter, Ava, will wear an identical dress.?
Ava, 9, loves matching her mom and already has about 50 identical outfits, says the friend, so she?s very excited to walk down the aisle as the flower girl, wearing a miniature version of Reese?s gown.
Jake and Reese have been together since 2007, and as previously reported by In Touch, he is so smitten by Reese that he has proposed numerous times, as recently as their last trip to Italy, but Reese was hesitant to say yes after her failed marriage to Ryan Phillippe.
But it seems that she is finally ready to make things official. In addition to the gown, Reese is already planning an intimate ceremony at her Ojai, California home.
She?s also content that Ava and son Deacon, 5, adore Jake.
?He not only wants to be her husband, he wants to take responsibility for her children,? says his pal. ?they?re in a good place.?

I always end up rooting for Reese. If Jake makes her happy, so be it. I think Jake is probably really close to both Ava and Deacon, and the four of them seem to spend a lot of time together. So, will Jake and Reese ever really tie the knot? Reese strikes me a traditional girl, and yet there are those nagging worries about fidelity, right? Go for it, Reese! Jake will make you happy!

After two rejected proposals, Reese Witherspoon has finally consented to Jake Gyllenhaal’s offer of marriage. A source told Star Magazine
“[The engagement ring] was gorgeous, and everyone noticed it right away. But she took it off as soon as she saw people staring. Reese stuffed it in her bag and didn’t put it on again the rest of the day.
There was already word out that she and Jake had gotten engaged, so the ring absolutely confirmed everybody’s suspicions. They’re ready to make it official!”
I don’t know about you, but I’m… happy for Reese. I’m allowed to say that, you know. I don’t just go around mocking celebrities for the sake of their celebrity status. I’m genuinely happy for her. Reese has finally found the girl of her dreams, and she’s about to make her all her own! It’d be wrong to sully such a feel-good moment with snark and derision.

We?ve been through this before, but here we go for another round of engagement speculation for Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal. Star Magazine is reporting that Jake asked Reese to marry him ?for the third time? and Reese finally said yes. Multiple sources claim to have seen a large diamond engagement ring on Reese?s hand while she filmed an Avon commercial ?recently?.
First, if and when Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal get engaged, People Magazine will confirm it, not Star. Secondly, just because Reese is wearing a diamond ring, doesn?t make it an engagement ring. It could just be a diamond ring, or better yet, a prop ring for the commercial. Thirdly, oh my God, they?re engaged! Woohoo! Star has more:
The third time was the charm for Jake Gyllenhaal! After two previous proposals to girlfriend Reese Witherspoon, he again got down on bended knee ? and she finally said the word he’s been waiting to hear: “Yes!” But she’s having a hard time keeping the news under wraps.
When Reese arrived at Sony Studios in Culver City, Calif., to shoot an Avon commercial recently, she was wearing her new engagement ring, two set sources tell Star ? but then decided she wasn’t ready to go public.
“It was gorgeous, and everyone noticed it right away,” says one eyewitness. “But she took it off as soon as she saw people staring. Reese stuffed it in her bag and didn’t put it on again the rest of the day.”
Still, the large diamond sparkler was the talk of the two-day shoot, says the second source. “There was already word out that she and Jake had gotten engaged, so the ring absolutely confirmed everybody’s suspicions.”
After what she calls a “very humiliating and very isolating” 2006 split from Ryan Phillippe, Reese could not even think about walking down the aisle again. At the time she thought, “I’m never going to feel any better than I feel right this minute,” Reese says in the March issue of Elle. But all that changed once she fell in love with Jake, whom she calls “a fantastic guy.”
Now the couple of two years is fast-tracking a wedding, and Reese is insisting on an intimate and simple affair. One insider reveals Reese is even thinking about having a Southern barbecue ? likely at their Ojai, Calif., home, which she and Jake often use as a romantic getaway. “Jake and Reese want to get married sooner rather than later,” says the insider. “They’ve been playing house for far too long, and they’re ready to make it official!”

After reading my fair share of sordid gossip, I think I have pretty good radar for gossip that just isn?t there. So it pains me to say that Star might have a little something there. Maybe I?m getting soft - after all, Star broke the story about the Levi Johnston/Bristol Palin split before People and OK!
I know the conventional wisdom is that Jake is gay and Reese is his beard, but I really think he?s just a straight guy who is really into genuinely nice, put-together girls with little to no manufactured drama. And I do think Jake wants to get married, and I?ll buy that he?s probably asked Reese in various ways if she would be up for it. So did Jake put a ring on it? We?ll have to wait for People Magazine to confirm!

The rumor-mill is working overtime in Britain - the gossip is that Jake Gyllenhaal has decided to propose (or has already proposed) to Reese Witherspoon during an exotic Egyptian getaway. I buy that Jake took (or will take) Reese on a romantic trip, but I?m not buying the engagement until I read it in People. There has been a Reese-Jake engagement watch before, and Reese has even publicly claimed that she?s not sure if she?ll ever re-marry. Still, Jake?s holiday plans do seem really sweet.
According to the British travel agency with whom Jake made the arrangements, Jake organized a private jet to take Reese to the pyramids, the Luxor and a private viewing of a newly-discovered mummy. Yikes, maybe it?s not so romantic? A mummy doesn?t really say ?marry me?. The Sunday Telegraph has more:
While Reese Witherspoon no doubt enjoyed a Valentine’s gift or two from Jake Gyllenhaal, the Hollywood actress can look forward to an even more romantic treat.
[The] couple, who did not confirm that they were a couple until November, are to be taken on a romantic holiday to Egypt amid rumours that Gyllenhaal may be planning to propose.
“I was asked to organise the trip for Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend,” said Geoffrey Kent, the founder of Abercrombie & Kent, at the opening of the company’s private travel office at Harrods. “They will go everywhere by private jet and cram as much as possible in. That means Luxor, the Pyramids and possibly a private viewing of the newly discovered Saqqara mummy. They are going to stay in the best hotels and the idea is that it will be quite an experience.”
Gyllenhaal, 28, lived in Notting Hill with Miss Witherspoon, 32, while filming Prince of Persia.

Last week, an interview with Reese came out in Parents magazine, and Reese admitted that her kids think she?s totally embarrassing. I pointed out that not many ?embarrassing? moms get to do the dirty with Jake Gyllenhaal. It seems like this Egypt trip might be something more than just romance - think about it, wouldn?t little kids love to see the pyramids? Won?t Deacon love to see a mummy? Perhaps Jake planned a family vacation, not a romantic one.
