George Clooney is 54 years old. Many actors ? male actors ? have flourishing careers in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. Just today, I was thinking about how much 78-year-old Morgan Freeman works. I mean, do you ever think about that? Morgan Freeman works SO MUCH. He works like he?s paying off Kanye West?s debt. But George Clooney hasn?t been working that much over the past few years. I didn?t think much about it before now, because I assumed it was his choice. I?m sure he gets sent lots of scripts, and of those scripts, Clooney has not had the best taste? recently. His current film, Hail Caesar, has made about $40 million (it had a $22 million budget). Last year?s Tomorrowland ? which was written off as a total bomb ? ended up making more than $200 million, domestically and internationally, although considering the production costs ($190 million-plus) & promotional costs (who knows?), the film didn?t even break even. And that?s all we?ve gotten from Clooney in two years. So Clooney says he?s thinking about retiring? because he?s old and he doesn?t want to look old on-screen. Here are some assorted words from George Clooney:
No one wants to see you age: “I think nobody really wants to see anybody really age. You know, it’s a very unforgiving thing, the camera is, and so aging becomes something that you know, you try to do less and less onscreen. You try to pick the films that work best for you and as you age they become less and less?[the situation is] obviously a lot worse for women.”
But he loves directing: “It is my great love. I enjoy it a lot. I’ve had really great success, and I’ve had some not-so-successful films, and that’s also part of the experience. But what I’ll say is it’s really fun. As you age on screen you get to that point where you really understand that, you know, you can’t stay in front of the camera your whole life. It’s much more fun, and it’s infinitely more creative, to be directing.”
Where he?s putting his money this election year: ?I am a Hillary supporter. I am doing a fundraiser for her? I really love Bernie Sanders, and am really glad he is in the debate. He is forcing the conversation to things that never get talked about in US politics: disparity between the rich and the poor, which is getting worse and worse every day.?
On Donald Trump: ?He?s just an opportunist. Now he?s a fascist; a xenophobic fascist? Let?s put things into perspective. You know, the truth of the matter is, in election season, things go crazy, and the loudest voices are the furthest and most extreme. So you hear a massively stupid idea, like we?re going to ban Muslims from the country. Now, we?re not ever going to do that. It says in the Statue of Liberty, bring us your huddled masses. It?s not what?s going to happen.?
He should have been thinking about diversity before: ?One film I did, The Ides of March, where the lead was Ryan Gosling. And yes, that?s one I didn?t think to, and should have probably thought to, look for a young African American actor to do it.?
[From The Guardian & E! News]
I suspect he won?t retire really, but he?s already hitting the brakes on his on-screen work, and in the future, we?ll probably be seeing him less and less in leading roles especially. Must be nice to have that option when you?re a man, right? At least he acknowledges that it?s harder for women, although more and more, it does seem like actors are going through the same ageism bulls?t that actresses go through. And I bet he will direct more, and I hope he?s serious about keeping diversity in mind.
As for the Trump stuff? yeah, he?s right. I like that he?s learned how to provide a good, solid political soundbyte and just leave it at that. There?s no reason to waste the energy and time on taking down Donald Trump point by point. Just call him a fascist and walk away. And I didn?t know he was a Hillary supporter, for some reason I thought he would be more for Bernie.

| George Clooney plans to sell his Cabo property to 'spend more time with Amal' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

A few weeks ago, Page Six claimed that George Clooney is currently considering selling off his Como, Italy mansion for an enormous profit. Clooney bought the property in 2002 for $10 million (a steal back then). He currently fields offers of $100 million for the mansion, probably more. Considering George has always loved his Como estate, it seemed like a weird rumor. Like, is George having money problems? Does he ?need? to sell the Como property? And now comes this piece of news, also from Page Six: their sources claim that George is definitely going to sell his home in Cabo, Mexico. Hmm?.
George Clooney is selling his vacation home in Cabo, Mexico, sources confirmed to Page Six.
We?re told Clooney plans to spend more time with wife Amal at their homes in England and Los Angeles, but the couple will still vacation in Cabo ? they?ll stay with neighbors and best friends Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford.
Both Clooney and Gerber?s homes were designed by famed architect Ricardo Legorreta and are the last two homes he designed before he passed away.
[From Page Six]
There?s so much extrapolation to be done with just a few meager sentences. For one, it seems that Amal has never really enjoyed Cabo. They?ve been there together a few times in the past year and their trips were always with Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. Which brings me to my other question: is this Amal?s way of editing George?s close friendship with Cindy and Rande? It feels like it. It feels like George always expects his ladies to be couple-friends with Cindy and Rande and Amal is all ?Nope, I?d rather spend time with the cultured people of New York and London.? It does feel that way, right? Like, Cabo is where you go if you want to spend time with Rande, Cindy, Jennifer Aniston and Joe Francis. Amal doesn?t want to be there.

| Enquirer: George Clooney wonders how his 'Amal Experiment' went so wrong | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|

|
|
This week?s National Enquirer has a pretty funny story that seems ripped from the comment section here at CB. The gist is that George Clooney?s Grand Amal Experiment has gone sideways, and he wasn?t expecting the whole ?America?s Last Bachelor Finally Marries His Equal? to blow up in his face quite so spectacularly. Which is what we?ve been saying all along? Especially in the wake of the epic box office failure of Tomorrowland, Team Clooney is almost definitely trying to figure out where their strategy went wrong. Some highlights from the Enquirer?s story:
His latest movie ?Tomorrowland? is a disaster, his political dreams are fading and now George Clooney is blaming wife Amal!
?George has had enough,? dished a source. ?The Amal Experiment has backfired badly and he?s looking for a way out. George thought that Amal would help him fulfuill his dream of running for office and, maybe one day, becoming president.?
Instead, Amal?s morphed into a red carpet darling, and George feels her connections have thrown cold water on his political ambitions.
?It?s a nightmare for George,? said one source. ?Suddenly, he isn?t getting calls from DC movers and shakers and believes Amal?s to blame. Instead of being like Bill and Hillary Clinton, they?ve become like Kim and Kanye!?
Even worse, George feels that Amal?s also ruined his Hollywood A-list status.
?He thinks she?s damaged his box office appeal? he actually believes she?s made him a laughingstock among his peers!?
Some Hollywood insiders have quipped the couple should do a reality show, ?Keeping Up with the Alamuddins.?
Desperate to regain his star status, George will take his wife back to England when renovations at their new home are completed. ?George is going to have a house-warming party, and carry Amal over the threshold. Then he?s going to leave Amal on her own in that big old mansion, while he hightails it back to America to rebuild his image!?
[From The National Enquirer, print edition]
My take: while it does feel like the Enquirer is rather gleefully (and hilariously) taking down the Alamooney marriage, they?re not entirely wrong. I think George really believed this whole marriage thing was going to play out differently. He believed that everyone would buy the image of Amal that his press people forced on media outlets like People Magazine. He believed that Amal was going to be seen as this shining beacon of political legitimacy. Instead, many people are like, ?Wow, she?s really spending a lot of money on clothes? and ?she sure loves to pose for the paparazzi.? After getting out of his comfort his zone of wrestlers, waitresses and Vegas party girls, George wasn?t expecting his lawyer wife to be just the same kind of thirsty, wannabe fashionista as his previous girlfriends.
Now, all that being said? George could easily rework the strategy by doing one simple thing: knocking up Amal. There?s nothing better for an image makeover than a baby.

| George Clooney: 'I?m a big believer in the idea that you can't try to look younger' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
I?ve mentioned this a few times over the past few weeks, but George Clooney has been looking really, really old during the Tomorrowland promotional tour. He?s 54 years old now and during some of his appearances, he didn?t look a day under 63. While we all age and I don?t want to get age-shaming about anyone, male or female, I have been wondering why George?s appearance seemed to really decline so rapidly over the past year. What could it be, what could it be? Could it be that George?s attempt to rebrand himself as a happily married man with a lovely 17-years-younger wife has sort of blown up in his face? Or is it just that George?s back is killing him and chronic pain will age you?
In any case, George thought it would be a good idea to chat about how he?s totally fine with aging and that trying to look younger will just make you look older. Yeah, George, that goes for trying to look hip by marrying a woman 17 years younger too!
George Clooney is Hollywood?s ultimate Silver Fox, so we?d probably go into mourning if he ever decided to dye his salt-and-pepper strands. Luckily, the 54-year-old actor maintains he?s not touching his grays.
?For me, it?s never been an issue or an option,? he told BBC radio?s Jenni Murray about his famous hair during an interview promoting his new film, Tomorrowland. ?I don?t think it would make much sense. I?ve seen it happen, and particularly on men I don?t think it works very well. I think it actually makes you look older. I?m a big believer in the idea that you can?t try to look younger ? you can just try to look the best you can at the age you are.?
And although he embraces his mature mane, the actor said that aging does affect him.
?There is nothing fun [about aging],? he shared. ?I know for actresses it?s infinitely worse because of public perception based on nothing except studios not hiring them, but I think for all of us you have to come to terms with getting older and not trying to fight it. You have a couple of options, which [are]: get older or die. You have to get used to the idea that your roles in films and who you are and how you?re perceived is going to change. And that will disappoint people at times.?
We imagine the support of his successful, gorgeous and crazy-stylish 37-year-old wife, Amal Clooney, helps the star feel youthful as well.
?She?s someone I enjoy spending every minute of the day with, and I?m very proud to be around,? he gushed about the lawyer and civil rights activist. ?And watching the things she does I admire so greatly. I?ve always been involved in things other than this business, long before I was successful at it. She?s been doing it quietly and unheralded for a long period of time, and I?m very proud to be married to her.?
[From People]
His grey hair is like the least offensive part of Clooney. That being said, he has dyed it before, usually for a particular role, which I guess is ?okay? in the book of Clooney. I don?t think hair dye is a big deal for men or women, and I?m saying that as a woman who started going grey in my 20s, and I?ve been dyeing my hair for years now. So my attitude on dye is: no judgment. But George is right in general ? the more people try to seem youthful, the older they look.

Here are some assorted photos of George Clooney flying solo as he promoted Tomorrowland that past few days. Some photos are from the London premiere, which was interesting for the fact that Amal Clooney was actually IN London on the day of the premiere, but she did not attend the UK premiere. There are also some photos of George looking old as dirt in Spain too. Again, it doesn?t seem like Amal came with him to Spain. George did say that Amal would come to Tokyo with him to promote the film, so we?ll see.
I only realized this recently, but Tomorrowland was co-written by Damon Lindelof, who created and wrote Lost and was responsible for the script and story catastrophe of Prometheus. Lindelof?s involvement in Tomorrowland does not inspire hope, to say the least. In fact, I?m now less likely to show any interest. In any case, Clooney, Lindelof and director Brad Bird sat down for a conversation with Vulture, and Clooney ended up giving some interesting quotes. Some highlights:
Why Clooney doesn?t do a lot of summer blockbusters: ?Well, I got a good taste of it in my mouth doing Batman and Robin. “Gosh, I’m so good at this, why don’t I keep doing them?” You know, it’s never really been my thing. Even something like Gravity was a very different kind of film, where I wasn’t carrying the bulk of the weight, and that wasn?t even a summer film? But other than that, it hasn’t really been in my wheelhouse, quite honestly. I’ve been offered a few of them, but I didn’t think I was the right guy for those jobs. But I have to say that Tomorrowland didn’t feel like a summer movie.?
On social media & online commenters: ?Listen, we’re at sort of a cynical time in society. Don’t ever read comments on anything! People can live anonymously, and I honestly think that when they were talking about freedom of speech in 1787, the theory was that you had to own your speech. It had to belong to you, and you actually had to take some responsibility for it. Now you can just sit alone and say horrible things, and it becomes fashionable to be shi–ty to people. Now people will come up to me, thinking they’re keeping it real, and they say, “I hated you in that last movie!” And I’ll look at them and go, “Well, I think those extra 20 pounds look good on you.” It’s become a much more cynical time, a time when people think it?s fun to only be negative?. And that’s not gonna be how I function. I’m not gonna function in that world, where negativity is going to be the centerpiece. I’m going to look to the better angels and have a better life because of it.
[From Vulture]
The social media part of the conversation happens as Lindelof talks about leaving Twitter in a fit because he didn?t like the comments he was getting. To which I say? there?s a fine line between trolling someone and airing some legitimate grievances about Lindelof?s lack of storytelling talent. But sure, I understand the point that Clooney is trying to make, which is that you should own your own ?free speech,? etc. Clooney also slapped the Daily Mail again, calling them ?evil? for claiming that Amal is Druze (that happened last year), even though we really have no idea what religion Amal practices, or if she believes in anything.
George also gave an interview to CBS This Morning and wouldn?t you know? He described his proposal to Amal in detail. He told Charlie Rose that he ?dropped? the proposal on her by surprise, although he planned it out and even cued up a playlist (made of songs by Rosemary Clooney). He got down on one knee too. Clooney said: “I asked her, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh my, God,’ and ‘Wow,’ and we just sat there. And finally, I just said, ‘Listen, I’m 53 at the time, or 52 at the time, I think. I said, ‘I’ve been on my knee for about 28 minutes so I gotta get an answer out of this because I’m gonna throw a hip out! I might not be able to stand back up.?? Poor guy. I bet getting down on one knee killed his back too.
But here?s a good rule of thumb for the gossip world: if someone is trying this hard to convince you of something, the opposite is probably true. George is really trying to convince us of something. Now we just need to figure out why he?s trying to divert our attention.

| George Clooney: Amal doesn't have a stylist, 'doesn't think of herself as a celebrity' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
I?m starting to worry about George Clooney a little bit. He?s promoting Tomorrowland, but nearly every quote coming out of his mouth is about his marriage and how special and amazing and different everything is now that he?s found the love of his life?? Maybe I should just sit back and let the Alamooney wash over me. I don?t need to question it. I don?t need to analyze it. I don?t need to wonder if the Body Snatchers got him and turned him into a Stepford Husband. I will not be asking ?what?s the deal, Cloons?? anymore. Behold, George talks to an Aussie outlet about never being apart from Amal for longer than a week, and whether they?ll have Alamooney babies.
There?s nothing tough about his marriage: “There was nothing tough about it. Our only adjustments are figuring out our schedules. Our deal is that we can’t be more than a week apart. So far, that’s worked out pretty well.”
Babies: “Ah. I have actually no idea about that.”
Their new English country mansion: “The town has the greatest pub in the world which is something like 200 years old. Amal and I walk from our house over a bridge, through a graveyard and into the pub. It’s fine going there but coming back is a little, eh?Now we’re in the middle of updating the house, and we’re bringing it back to the Georgian style. I have a boat and we ride around and there’s an unbelievably great restaurant nearby called The French Horn. I love it there.”
Amal does not cook: “Well, I cook a little bit. My wife makes reservations. And her mother makes reservations, so it?s a generational thing? [Now I?m] a bit of a connoisseur of Lebanese food. I didn’t know much about it before, but I find it to be fantastic. We eat a lot of tabbouleh. And listen, I was a single guy for a long time, I?m a decent chef, I know how to cook. I make a nice pasta because I spend time in Italy. I can also make good breakfast food, and I?m great at Thanksgiving dinner.”
Amal is not a celebrity & she pays for most of her clothes: ?Well, that?s part of the world that comes with us getting married but she doesn?t think of herself as a celebrity. She?s found a wonderful way of balancing the idea of what she does for a living. She?s very well groomed to handle a lot of pressure. Sometimes people will give her a dress because they want their name to be out there, but she?s a grown person and she pays for a lot of her own stuff.?
Amal does not have a stylist: “The funny thing is, from the first day I met Amal, you could see that she has her own sense of style. She doesn’t have a stylist, she has clothes that she loves to wear and she knows exactly what they are.?
The Met Gala: ?Let me tell you something, that?s the only time in my life I?ve ever worn the tie and tails thing. And I don?t think I?m going to do it again. That took a long time to put it on and take it off?Sometimes Amal looks at me confused about my sense of style. There are times when she says, ?Are you going to wear a Tequila T-shirt again???
He & Amal don?t disagree: ?We don?t disagree on many things so far. We will see. And since she?s smarter than me, the only way we resolve anything is by arm wrestling. That is my only chance of winning anything with her because if it?s an intellectual battle, I would lose. She?s the smart one in the family.?
[From People & News.com.au]
?My wife makes reservations. And her mother makes reservations, so it?s a generational thing?? This is going to sound so middle-class, but I really don?t understand Amal?s insistence on never cooking anything, ever. It makes her sound like such a princess, like she can’t function unless people are waiting on her hand and foot. I?m not a world class cook by any means, but I know how to make some basic dishes and I can certainly follow a recipe. Now I?m starting to wonder if it?s more about the way upper-class households are organized in a country like Lebanon. The Alamuddins are a wealthier, upper class family in Lebanon, so I?m guessing they probably have a house full of staff. Amal and her mother never learned to cook because they always had someone cooking for them. And even when Amal went off on her own and lived by herself in New York and London, she just never learned how to? what? Throw a bowl of soup in the microwave? Make a sandwich?

Here are some photos of Amal and George Clooney out and about on Good Friday. They went out to dinner, because Amal does not cook but she does love to be photographed in candid shots around New York. Honestly, I think their marriage has probably never been stronger since they relocated (temporarily) to New York. Amal seems happier. George seems? well, he looks like he?s in pain, but I think that?s just his back. I?m actually starting to feel sorry for George a little bit ? I really do believe his back is killing him and he?d probably much rather sit at home with a heating pad (or ice pack), only Amal doesn?t cook and she loves to be seen.
Amal?s ensemble is Giambattista Valli spring 2015. It?s a minidress with flutter sleeves ? that white part is built into the dress. Amal has been wearing a lot of Valli in NYC. I think Giambattista Valli must be one of her new favorite designers, and it wouldn?t surprise me at all if Valli was sending Amal half their new collection. I wonder if Amal is going to do another fashion spread in another magazine? She famously did a Vogue piece ahead of her wedding. I bet Anna Wintour would love to feature Amal again. We?re coming up on the anniversary of George?s proposal too. Hm.
They went out to eat at Babbo. No word on what they ate there, but it probably didn?t involve tomatoes. Amal hates tomatoes. Also: her hair looks amazing. She must have just gotten a fresh blow-out on Friday.

| Amal Clooney to George: 'Are you expecting me to cook' I don't cook.' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

On Monday night, George Clooney, Amal Clooney and George?s mom Nina all went out to eat at Patsy?s Italian in NYC. You can see the photos from their outing here ? it looks like Amal is wearing bellbottoms? If not, those are some significantly flared pants. Anyway, I didn?t think this outing was tremendously noteworthy until I saw this E! News story about how the food. I LOVE food stories. And then I noticed the kicker at the end, about Amal and whether she cooks. It?s pretty amazing.
George Clooney was surrounded by beautiful women at his favorite Italian restaurant in New York Monday night, but there was something missing…CARBS! A source tells E! News exclusively that while George’s wife Amal Clooney and mom Nina Clooney happily noshed on breads and pasta at Patsy’s Italian Restaurant, the actor himself “said he’s watching his weight” and mostly avoided them altogether.
Fortunately, for the 53-year-old Oscar winner, the restaurant has some delicious menu options that don’t include the starchy stuff! According to a source, George chose to start with a “tre-colore salad” (arugula, endive and radicchio) and then dined on on “chicken tre-colore” (chicken over salad) for his main dish. Amal started off with a house salad?hold the tomatoes! The human rights lawyer was overheard telling executive chef and Patsy’s Italian Restaurant co-owner Sal Scognamillo that she “doesn’t eat tomatoes.” Apparently, though, Amal’s not opposed to tomatoes in all their forms, because a source tells E! News her main entree was penne pasta “with a spicy marinara sauce.”
Fortunately for George, he didn’t completely miss out on carbohydrates. According to a source, his table was “sent an assortment of desserts, and he had a bite of one.” Bummer for him that was all, but hey, that meant more to go around for Amal, Nina and two of her pals, who’d apparently enjoyed a “girls’ day” in the city leading up to dinner.
George’s mom, a former beauty queen, is actually the one who introduced him to Patsy’s Italian Restaurant. The actor was reminded of his family’s history with the eatery last night when Chef Scognamillo presented him with a brand-new copy of Patsy’s Italian Family Cookbook.
Inside the cookbook, which just became available to the public today, there’s a quote from George acknowledging mama Clooney had good taste long before he did! “Since I have a picture of my mom eating at Patsy’s when she was pregnant with me, I can honestly say that I’ve been going to Patsy’s since before I was born,” he says. “It’s been a great part of my life ever since.”
According to an onlooker, George showed his copy of Patsy’s Italian Family Cookbook to Amal, and she had the perfect reaction. “Are you expecting me to cook?” she asked. “I don’t cook!”
[From E! News]
This story has absolutely everything for someone like me. A) It involves food, B) I can judge Amal for not eating tomatoes (hahahaha), C) It involves a man being on some kind of low-carb diet for a mysterious reason (his back?) and D) It involves a new wife telling her new husband something very special: BITCH, I DO NOT COOK. Classic.
But now we know why George looks so pained when they?re constantly going out to eat. She probably doesn?t even know how to boil water. How is she supposed to make him some soup? That?s all he really wants in this world. SOUP.

| Amal Clooney's Giambattista Valli date-night style: fabulous or try-hard' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Well, well. George Clooney and Amal stepped out in NYC on Saturday night for a bite to eat. They went to Kappo Masa (Japanese). I wonder? do you think Amal can cook? I have my doubts. She seems like the kind of woman who prefers going out to eat. And much like Amal?s street style the previous day (we discussed it here), Amal wore Giambattista Valli for this outing. You like? It really does seem like yellows are ?in? for Spring. This is from Valli?s Pre-Fall 2015 collection, which isn?t even in stores yet. Is Giambattista Valli sending Amal free stuff? It wouldn?t be the worst idea. She really does seem to love that label ? she?s worn a lot of Valli in the past six months. Also: her earrings are Dolce & Gabbana.
As for their body language? yeah, I could do this ALL DAY. Amal is all ?Face! Beauty! Teeth! Hair! Glamour!? And George is all ?My back hurts, I wish we had stayed home and just had some soup.? That?s what you get, George. Stacy Keibler never made these kinds of demands! You just had to marry ?your equal,? George. And of course your equal is 16 years younger and she loves the cameras.
Speaking of, Amal has taken on more casework. Sort of. While she?s in NYC with George and in between lecturing at Columbia Law School, Amal is sort of working for the legal team of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the disgraced former president of the Philippines. Arroyo stole elections and looted millions of dollars from a state-run lottery scheme. Arroyo is also sick and not getting the best medical care while she sits in jail. So Amal has joined the legal team petitioning the UN Human Rights Council, asking them to intervene and end Arroyo?s substandard ?hospital detention? so Arroyo can get better care.

Here are some photos of George Clooney inside the NYC gala for SeriousFun Children’s Network on Monday night. The theme of the night was a celebration of Paul Newman?s legacy. Amal Clooney did not attend, from what I can see. But George and Amal have moved to NYC for the duration of his new film, Money Monster, which will be directed by Jodie Foster. I think Amal will find work commutes from NYC a lot easier, don?t you? That being said, I?m actually sort of surprised by how much Amal has changed her schedule around to suit George?s work schedule. When he was in LA for work, she was in LA. When he wanted to vacation in Cabo twice in a month, she went along.
At this event, George got on stage and played Chairman of the Board, but no one minded because… hey, it’s for a good cause. He talked about how the money goes to the kids’ camps Paul Newman founded and Clooney even joked, “My wife is the smart one.” Go here to read more.
Meanwhile, George has just been named ?the most stylish man of all time.? Seriously? What about Cary Grant? This is the top ten, in descending order: Clooney, Sean Connery, Cary Grant, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Pierce Brosnan, Michael Jackson and LL Cool J. Damn, Kanye West is going to be SO MAD that he didn?t make this list. For what it?s worth, I don?t agree with this list at all. People gave too much favor to modern, living celebrities. And I?m sorry, but any list that includes Scarfy Depp and Brad Pitt?s weird hobo style is useless.
