In March 2023 Ryan Coogler announced his Chris Carter-approved reboot of The X-Files, which will air on Disney+. I?m SO excited! Details have been scarce so far, but last week, rumors emerged that Danielle Deadwyler was the frontrunner for a starring role. Our last official update, however, came from Coogler?s Sinners promo tour back in May, when he revealed that he?d been in touch with Gillian Anderson and promised that some of the episodes would be really f-king scary.?
Coogler was asked about the reboot during a Sinners screening last weekend. (It?s back in theaters for Halloween.) He?s still holding his cards close to his chest, but did reveal the reason why he took on The X-Files as his next project: he?s doing it for his mom, who is a huge fan.
Ryan Coogler made his first ?Creed? film because his father Ira loved the ?Rocky? franchise. Now it?s his mom Joselyn?s turn. Coogler tells me he signed on to reboot ?The X-Files? because his mother was a big fan of the Fox sci-fi drama series.
?Like my relationship with ?Rocky? with my dad, ?The X-Files? is one of those things with my mom,? Coogler told me Friday at the Cinespia ?Sinners? screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. ?My mom means the world to me ? she?s actually here tonight ? so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She?s fired up.?
As for rumors that Danielle Deadwyler is being eyed to star in the reboot, Coogler laughed, ?I can neither confirm or deny.? The same goes for possible appearances by original ?X-Files? stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

Rebooting The X-Files for his mom is a grade-A Mother?s Day/birthday/Christmas present. Like, how do you even top that? I also had no idea that Ryan made the new Rocky movies for his dad! That?s pretty awesome. He did such a good job with both of them, too. This just reaffirms my faith that his X-Files is going to be really good. You don?t want to disappoint your mom!
That said, I was underwhelmed by the ?new? seasons that we got in 2016 and 2018. However, they were technically continuations of the original story and Ryan?s project is a straight-up reboot. Oh, I can?t wait! I hope the Danielle Deadwyler rumors are true because I?ve really liked her in everything I?ve seen her in so far. If we?re to presume that she?s playing the Scully-adjacent character, then who would we like to see as the Mulder-based one? I?m going with Manny Jacinto. If Star Wars doesn?t want him, then put him in a suit, give him a badge, and let us watch him uncover monsters, aliens, and government conspiracies in between throwing pencils at the ceiling.

David Duchovny was on Fresh Air with Dave Davies on NPR yesterday promoting his new somewhat baseball-themed novel, Bucky F*cking Dent. I knew Duchovny was an author and that he’s published another book, but I didn’t realize that he actually graduated from Princeton and has a masters in English literature from Yale. Judging from the excerpts they read on NPR, it shows. Duchovny explained on NPR that his mom, a Scottish immigrant, instilled in him a love of books and education. Plus his parents came from a poor background and education was seen as insulation against poverty in a way.
Although Duchovny’s book isn’t autobiographical he said that he included some parallels to his life. The character Ted has a college relationship which ends in a kind of shocking way. The breakup scene was “similar to something that happened to me,” and is “maybe the closest thing” in the book to his own life, Duchovny explained.
It’s almost exactly the same as in the book… We had dated during college and we had drifted apart and I had decided that enough was enough and I was going to marry her and we were going to stop drifting apart. We made a date to meet for dinner in New York. I was at Yale graduate school at the time? and I came down and we did that thing as it is in the novel.

Duchovny said he didn’t know if he ever told the woman that he was going to ask her to marry him, that he doesn’t know how to get in touch with her now, but that he does “Hope she gets the book.” That’s crazy. I guess Duchovny’s former girlfriend is going to figure it out now.
There’s so much more in Duchovny’s NPR interview. He said that he had no acting training when he landed the role of Fox Mulder on X-Files and that he learned on the job. He also told a touching story about how his daughter was sick as an infant and how he had trouble bonding with her afterwards because he had been so scared of losing her.

I’m so excited for The X-Files premiere on Fox, which is this Sunday and Monday. (I just set my DVR!) It’s getting bad reviews, but I watched the movie with the villain who was just a talking head (ok I watched it twice), and I’m going to watch all six episodes of this show no matter what. EW says it stars out poorly but picks up in the third episode, which is good enough for me. (Incidentally, creator Chris Carter wrote the poorly reviewed first episode.) I just love these characters so much and I want to see what happens with them.
As promotion for the show, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson cover Variety. Their quotes about each other remind me of their flirty giggly joint appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, where Anderson was practically falling all over Duchovny. I floated the theory that they’re boning and some of you said it’s been on between them for a while while other people insisted Anderson is just a goofy person. In Varity, they don’t exactly gush about each other but it sounds like they thoroughly enjoy working together. Maybe that’s because it’s on between them!

“The crucible of doing that show made monsters out of both of us. Once we got to step back, it was like, ?Oh, wow, we really like each other. I didn?t know that was going to happen.?
?The way we work together has changed. Whatever rapport we have as actors, we earned. It?s nice to be able to play that without ever even feeling like you?re playing it.?

“Our relationship has definitely become a proper friendship over the last few years. I think we?re more on each other?s side. Duchovny on whether they would do a longer series
“Gillian and I have talked about (doing more episodes), and then we just stop because we get to 2023 and we still haven?t found a date we can do it. It?s like, ?Let?s just wait and see what happens after this,? and then we can start to talk seriously about whether we can make it work again.”
Creator Chris Carter dismisses the bad reviews
“What seemed to be under review was the fact that we were coming back at all. They were reviews of our intentions rather than reviews of the show itself.”

In terms of whether the X-Files will come back on a more permanent basis, I think that’s down to how this six episode arc performs more than to Duchovny and Anderson’s schedules. They’re both busy people but if there’s a big demand I bet they would be open to doing more. Given the negative advance buzz, I’m not hopeful. Still, it’s Anderson, Duchovny and Joel McHale! They’re all highly talented, watchable actors, they just need decent material. That might not even matter if the numbers are good, so we’ll have to wait and see.

I saw the headline on People Magazine, “See Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Reunite on the X-Files Set,” and I squeed a little. Then I braced myself for the possibility that none of our photo agencies would have the pics, but I was wrong they do – and holy sh*t, there’s Joel McHale! If you add Joel McHale to any production, however terrible, I will watch it.
We heard last week that McHale would be joining the X-Files reboot and actually seeing him on set is incredible. Variety reports that he’s playing “Tad O?Malley, a conservative news anchor who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.” I’ll take it. It makes sense too, because some of those conservative talking heads are huge conspiracy theorists. Look at how badass McHale is in his suit and glasses. These pics were taken on set in Vancouver yesterday.
Here’s a photo of McHale cracking up Anderson and Duchovny. It looks like they’re not even filming at this point and that he’s just making witty observations.
Moving on, here’s Duchovny going in to kiss Anderson on the cheek. Maybe they’re filming but he looks like a creeper here. She’s trying to move away from him.
In terms of the costuming, People drops a minor spoiler by pointing out that Duchovny “is noticeably not dressed for official FBI work, which could indicate that his character, Fox Mulder, may not have rejoined the bureau in these new episodes.” People may actually be reporting a tip here instead of just jumping to conclusions, but we’ll have to wait and see if more information comes out.
On a superficial note, I love Anderson’s hair here. They gave her strawberry blonde color in a more modern style. Do you remember her deep red helmet hair? I had hair just like that in the mid 90s and it was no coincidence.

He?s breaking into the music scene and David Duchovny released his debut album Hell or High Water on Tuesday (May 12) complete with a concert at Manhattan?s Cutting Room.
The ?Californication? hunk was in high spirits as he took the stage, and everyone cheered when his ?X-Files? costar Gillian Anderson joined him for a song, asking, ?Can we play some real music please?!?
Once the song was over, Ms. Anderson (who is single) planted a serious smooch on Duchovny (who is also single) and the crowd went wild. ?The X-Files? will begin production again this summer, so stay linked to the GossipCenter for all the latest details!

There have been rumors and stories about an X-Files remake for years. I never thought anything would come to fruition because the show overstayed its expiration date when it was on the air, plus there were two movies that were frankly pretty bad. (A dismembered head was the villain in the second movie.) I loved the X-Files for the first few years that it was on, but when Mulder left (or maybe when he had a baby with Scully – it’s unclear if they actually had sex) it jumped the shark.
Regardless of some bumps in the road, the show remains one of the most beloved cult shows ever. As confirmation of that, Fox just announced that they’ve ordered six new episodes. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will reprise their roles and X-Files creator Chris Carter will be the showrunner. It’s unknown when the reboot will air, but production is set to begin this summer. Here’s more, thanks to Variety:
?I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,? Carter said. ?The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.?
The ?X-Files? revival follows last spring?s return of ?24? as a 13-episode limited series. NBC has joined the mania for resurrecting series with built-in audience awareness with its plans for the ?Heroes Reborn? miniseries next season.
?X-Files? is a natural, as the show about FBI sleuths investigating instances of paranormal activity is tailor-made for social-media obsession ? even if it hails from an earlier TV era. ?X-Files? had a nine-season run on Fox from 1993-2002. It spawned two feature films, 1998?s ?The X-Files: Fight the Future? and 2008?s ?The X-Files: I Want to Believe.?
Fox Television Group chairs Gary Newman and Dana Walden shepherded the show on the studio side during its network run. The pair have made no secret of their interest in bringing it back. The new episodes may well spark renewed interest in the show from SVOD platforms, just as the ?24: Live Another Day? episodes spurred Fox to cut a rich pact for the entire series library with Amazon Prime.

Both Anderson and Duchovny remain busy in recurring roles in other television shows and each published their first books recently. Anderson co-wrote a science fiction novel called A Vision of Fire while Duchovny published a humorous fable about a cow heroine (really) called Holy Cow: A Modern-Day Dairy Tale. It must have been tricky to find a time when the two of them were both free to film the new show.
I talk a good game about being disappointed by how the X-Files wrapped but I’m so excited for this remake. I hope they’re able to move on from the whole Scully and Mulder are in love storyline, but I guess the last movie already solved that. I barely remember it.
Duchovny instagrammed and tweeted this picture confirming the news. I loved Scully’s fashion so much. She had that iconic late 90s business style. It really doesn’t seem that long ago.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunited over the weekend for a 20th anniversary event celebrating The X-Files at The Paley Center. You know what? I think, for the X-Files fans out there like me, that we wouldn?t get so happy and excited to see Gillian and David reunite if they weren?t still so damn attractive. I mean, look at them! Both of them have aged, of course, but Gillian is still so beautiful and damn it, I would still bang Mulder. Anyway, just look at them. I love that they still like each other. I love that it still feels like they?re in each other?s lives and they still enjoy each other?s company. I can?t believe it?s been 20 years.
So it should come as no shock that David and Gillian confirmed this weekend that they would both come back for another X-Files movie, and that Chris Carter is working on a script as we speak. Is this lame? Is it weird or lame or budget that David and Gillian would revisit these characters (likely with a handsome paycheck) just because neither has a lot going on these days? David said: ?All the principals are on board? Gillian and I want to do it, so it’s really up to 20th Century Fox at this point.? The last movie bombed, but I think if they tried to reboot the franchise in an interesting way with another film, it could be successful. Maybe old-married-couple Mulder and Scully could teach a pair of young FBI agents how to search for aliens? Costarring Benedict Cumberbatch as The Lizard Hybrid and Tilda Swinton as The Alien Goddess.

As for Miss Farmiga's new movie, "GOATS" revolves around fifteen-year-old Ellis, who is getting ready to leave his luxurious home in the foothills of Tucson for his freshman year at an East Coast prep school.

David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have weathered his sex addiction and her affair, but it looks like they are finally going their separate ways. TMZ says:
Although David and Tea are taking time apart, they have not decided if they will file for divorce.
David and Tea were married back in 1997 — and briefly separated in 2008.
The couple has 2 children together — a 12-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son.
In more exciting news, my zinnias had six new blooms this morning, thanks in large part to my use of a slow-acting granular fertilizer and judicious pinching of spent flowers, which is a must if you want to encourage branching and maintain an overall neat appearance.

I haven?t really followed David Duchovny in a while, and the state of his marriage kind of confused me. According to reports, David and his wife Tea Leoni split up in 2008 after Tea caught (?caught?) David screwing around. David claimed he was a sex addict (sure) and he went into ?rehab?. After the ?rehab? cured him of his sex addiction, Tea and David seemed to reunite and there were occasional paparazzi shots of the two of them, or David and Tea with their kids, Madelaine West, 12, and Kyd, 9.
Anyway, last night the couple?s rep confirmed that David and Tea are ?taking time apart? again. They?re separating, but there?s no word on whether they will divorce, or perhaps get back together again once David complete another rehab stay for his sex addiction. TMZ?s sources say that they don?t even know if they?re finally going to end it this time. Isn?t it fait accompli that David continued to screw around on Tea? You know what?s really surprising, though? You rarely hear about his other women. Either David goes with pros, or he goes with very discreet women.
So, is this sad news? Sure, it totally is. I think Tea really loves David, and that?s why she sticks around despite his blatant philandering. I think she wants their kids to have a family with mom and a dad who stick it out. But I also think that David has issues. I?ve always been ambivalent about the ?sex addiction? excuse because I think men use it as an easy ?out? for screwing around. I don?t know if David is addicted to sex? but I don?t think he?s going to stop philandering any time soon.
