The pandemic year was a reboot for women and how they felt about makeup, hard pants, grooming and bras. I?ll admit that during the pandemic, I still wore a bra every day, but that was mostly because I tried to take a walk every day. I have big boobs, as I?ve discussed before, and try to wear a bra in public. Now, as soon as I get home, sure, the bra usually comes off. Now that vaccinations are underway and people are ?getting back to normal,? will the pandemic-era bralessness and soft-pants-intensive lifestyle stay? Gillian Anderson says yes, absolutely.
Gillian Anderson is prepared to let nature take its course, as she?s officially done wearing bras, calling the undergarment ?too uncomfortable.?
?I don?t wear a bra anymore. I can?t wear a bra. I?m sorry,? Anderson, 52, explained in an Instagram Live video Monday. ?I don?t care if my breasts reach my belly button. I?m not wearing a bra, it?s just too f?king uncomfortable.?
The ?Sex Education? actress was met praise from other women who?ve also disdainfully given up on the brassiere, especially after months of quarantining at home left the undergarment essentially useless.
?i never wear a bra and i get a lot of distasteful comments about it, so knowing Gillian Anderson doesn?t wear a bra anymore is an information most pleasing to me!? wrote one fan, with another adding, ?if two time golden globe and emmy winning actress Gillian Anderson says no more bras, who are we to disagree.
[From Page Six]
For many small-busted women, this is a sort of breast privilege, to ditch the bra and ?not care? about being out in public braless. If you?re a B-cup, it doesn?t actually matter that much and people won?t stare at you, and your clothes will fit the same and all of that. But Gillian is actually well-endowed in the chest department. I bet she?s a C-cup? And so people will notice. And I?m glad that she?s like ?fk this, I don?t care.? I will say this? if she?s so ?uncomfortable? wearing a bra, she?s probably wearing the wrong size? But anyway? yeah, I?m fine if we hold on to this post-pandemic. No bras, no hard pants, no makeup. Let?s fking go.

Gillian Anderson took home a SAG last night for her work in The Crown of course. Her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher was polarizing but I loved it. In one of the at home segments the SAGs played, Common said that Gillian made him feel sorry for Thatcher, which is true! She did that for me too. Gillian was in this crimson strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress, which is a very safe and classic red carpet look. Its lovely despite the design house. It looks like something we would see on Kate Winslet. You can see Gillians acceptance speech here. I wonder if everything is ok with her and Peter Morgan now.
Amy Adams was also in a staid dress, in a black mock turtleneck one sleeve Celine. I was thinking Amy was nominated for an Oscar this year, but shes not for once. I want Amy to get an Oscar, but not for a movie like Hillbilly Elegy. The same goes for Glenn Close.

| Gillian Anderson and 'The Crown' creator Peter Morgan have split after four years | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I first heard that Gillian Anderson had been dating The Crown creator, Peter Morgan, when she was doing press for the shows fourth season last month. She of course plays Margaret Thatcher, and shes phenomenal in the role. Shes said that she and Peter dont discuss her performance, that they dont talk about work, and that they have boundaries around their work and personal lives. Unfortunately theyve split after about four and a half years together. The Daily Mails Baz Bamigboye has an exclusive about it, writing that he heard it was a logistics issue for them due to their work schedules and children. Gillian has a young adult daughter, Piper, 26, from her first marriage to X-Files art director, Clyde Klotz, and two sons, Oscar, 14, and Felix, 12, from her relationship with Mark Griffiths. Peter has five children with his ex, Princess Anna Carolina Schwarzenberg (shes Austrian nobility). They separated in 2014 but I cant find confirmation that theyve divorced at all. Gillian said earlier this year that she and Peter dont live together by choice. Heres that report on their breakup from The DM:
Gillian Anderson, 52, and her writer partner Peter Morgan, 57, who worked together on the latest season of The Crown, have split amicably after four years together
They were supportive of each others careers. Morgan was often seen at Andersons first nights, and they would frequently be spotted together on the awards season circuit in Los Angeles and London.
But Ive heard that the relationship has run its course ? not helped by various work commitments and family logistics (each has children from past relationships) ? though they remain great friends.
I approached representatives for both Anderson and Morgan this week, but they declined to comment.
[From The Daily Mail]
The rest of the article focuses on their careers. The reasoning for the split makes me think this report is somewhat official. Couples always say that their breakups are amicable and that it was work and scheduling. The next season of The Crown, season five which will be its last, will have PMs John Major and Tony Blair. Im assuming that Gillian and Peter wont need to work together anymore. I buy that they couldnt make it work, especially if theyre not living together. They have young adult children and its got to be so much stress to live with them or even visit with them and have an outside relationship too. There are just too many variables now and if even one child is out socializing its dangerous. I would like to learn more about this but theyre British and Gillian isnt messy about her personal life.

| Gillian Anderson tossed the 'sex Education' script, her partner dug it out of the garbage | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Sometimes I feel so au courant being in this job. And then sometimes I wonder exactly how long has my head been stuck in the sand. Yesterday, I saw the trailer for Sex Education and thought it was a new series. But no, it was the trailer for the second season of the very popular British comedy that I?ve been sleeping on, apparently. The show stars Asa Butterfield as Otis Millburn and his mom Jean is played by Gillian Anderson. But she almost didn?t play Jean, because she tossed the script out as soon as she got it. Fortunately, her partner Peter Morgan rescued the script and encouraged her to take the role.
When Gillian Anderson was first given the script for the pilot of the critically acclaimed British comedy-drama Sex Education, she immediately sent it?into the garbage. ?I read a teeny bit of the first episode and threw it in the bin,? she tells EW. ?Initially I felt that it was too on the nose.?
The actress believed the setup for the show ? about a professional sex therapist whose own teenage son sets up shop advising his fellow students on the subject of carnal activities ? to be too obvious. Anderson?s mind was changed by her real-life partner Peter Morgan, the creator and writer of The Crown. ?Pete essentially took it out the bin and read it and loved it, and said, ?You?re mad. This will be really good for you to do.? I read it and I thought it was hilarious.? So, does Morgan get a percentage of the actress? Sex Education earnings? ?No,? Anderson says with a laugh. ?But he does keep reminding me that the success of it is all down to him.?
[From Entertainment Weekly]
Obviously, I?m going to have to watch this show now to see what all the yelling?s about. I?m a fan of Gillian?s so it?s not much to ask of me. I also tend to like Peter Morgan?s choices so if he gave the script the thumbs up, it?s probably up my alley.
Actors talk a lot about scripts they passed on and how much they regret it, like Jennifer Lopez just discussed passing on Unfaithful. I know we all probably have one job/position we think maybe we should have taken, but an actor is reminded of their mistake every time that project is discussed. And then they have to be gracious about it and say things like, ?but no, So-and-So was so amazing in it, it should have been their part all along,? through gritted teeth and clenched fist. Fortunately, Gillian doesn?t have to regret anything because she gave Sex Education a second chance. And just think how fun it will be to have her sex positive Jean Milburn in mind while watching her play ice queen Margaret Thatcher on The Crown.

So, it turns out those rumors were true: Gillian Anderson will play former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in season four of The Crown. After many months of what I am guessing was negotiations, Gillian finally signed on to the series.

| Gillian Anderson on perimenopause: 'I felt like somebody had taken over my brain' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

For all you can say about Lena Dunham, and there’s a lot, she’s doing good work with the Lenny newsletter, perhaps by passing it off to other people. In this week’s edition Gillian Anderson, 48, talks to her best friend, a journalist named Jennifer Nadel, about menopause and perimenopause. Anderson and Nadal have a new book out today called We: A Manifesto For Women Everywhere. Just reading this brief interview makes me want to buy it. The two friends talk candidly about medical and mental health challenges as they went through menopause and I have to say this is one of the few times in the many years I’ve been writing about celebrities that I’ve heard The Change discussed so candidly.
The first time she remembers experiencing perimenopause
Anderson: Two years ago it was eight in the morning and I remember throwing my coat down on the floor in front of at least two of my children, and saying out loud, ?This day sucks!? The day hadn?t even started, but there was something about my inability to handle anything that morning that alerted me to the fact that something was up. And as the day went on, I kept having to excuse myself from meetings and go into the bathroom to cry.
It was at the point that I felt like my life was falling apart around me that I started to ask what could be going on internally, and friends suggested it might be hormonal. I went to a menopause specialist who informed me that my levels of estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone were incredibly low.
Can you explain what perimenopause is?
Anderson: Perimenopause, as I understand it, is a period of time that can last anywhere from a few years to even a decade before one?s period actually stops, before one actually goes into menopause proper. What happens is, over time our levels of estrogen start to deplete, and as a result we develop symptoms like anxiety, depression, mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, and find it harder and harder to cope with the normal routines of our lives.
I was used to being able to balance a lot of things, and all of a sudden I felt like I could handle nothing. I felt completely overwhelmed. When I talked to the menopause specialist, she said that she often gets phone calls from female CEOs screaming down the phone, ?I need help now! I am losing my mind!?
And that?s completely right. I felt like somebody else had taken over my brain.
Nadal: It?s kind of weird. I talk to older women who have been through it, and they can barely remember the details. It?s a bit like childbirth. They?re like, ?Oh, yeah, I did that.? They can?t remember or give you the details, and yet when you?re in it, every single moment of it is so tricky. It?s not just the physical symptoms, the loss of memory, the loss of emotional perspective, or that feeling of having lost your emotional shock absorbers; it?s also a feeling of loss.
[From Lenny]
Right now I’m going through perimenopause and feel very sad, beyond anything I can remember feeling before, and unable to concentrate, just like Anderson describes. I’m alternately irritated and my periods are painful. I could relate to most of what Chrissy Teigen just wrote about postpartum depression (although of course that’s not the cause for me). So when Gillian Anderson talks about feeling emotionally raw in perimenopause and how hard that is to deal with it helps. I have an appointment with my doctor today and will ask her about options. Both my mom and my aunt went through this at my age but no one talked about it or warned me, I think they thought I might be spared. Hopefully the comparison to childbirth is apt because that’s something that seems so remote when you’re not dealing with it. Like “holy sh-t, I can’t believe I got through that” but you push it out of your mind. I’m looking forward to that phase the most.

| Gillian Anderson: I am a vain woman trying to embrace my aging face | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Apparently this story came out last week when People Magazine put out their “Most Beautiful” cover, but it was only on the main page for a moment and I missed it. Hat tip to The Huffington Post for featuring it. Gillian Anderson has been open about the fact that she’s not into plastic surgery or injectables, and it shows. She looks so lovely and natural at 47, and that is a rarity in Hollywood. (She’s British and lives in London so I suppose she’s more immune than most celebrity women.) Anderson tells People that she’s not ruling out plastic surgery, and it sounds like she’s not shaming women who opt for it, but that she wants to be able to age naturally. That’s a good way to look at it.
At 47, I feel quite strongly that I wouldn’t do plastic surgery, but also, I know that I am a vain woman,” The X-Files star tells PEOPLE. “Talk to me in ten years ? they may have invented something which feels less invasive, and then it’s possible that the line will be easier to cross.”
“I don’t want to say never,” she continues. “I don’t want to be hypocritical about it. But also, at this juncture, I just hope that I would be able to embrace these stages of my aging face, and not feel like something was wrong and that it needed to be fixed through surgery.”
[From People Magazine, online and print edition]
I searched our site for “Gillian Anderson plastic surgery” and “Gillian Anderson Botox” and the only two stories which came up were from four years ago when Kaiser was marveling how lovely Anderson looked at 43. Her skin was dewy and glowing although she could move her forehead and she didn’t look pulled or filled. It’s possible she’s opting for lasers or another non-invasive technique. Plus she didn’t comment on Botox or fillers, just plastic surgery. Whatever she’s doing, sign me up! I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been using this little microcurrent device to smooth fine lines and improve my skin. I’ve had it for almost four months and I swear that it works. Those lines on the lower sides of my mouth (which I just learned are called “oral commissures”) have reduced a little. Maybe I’m just desperate to see changes though. I also am trying to “embrace my aging face” and that involves everything short of going to the dermatologist – yet.
Here’s a selfie Gillian took with a fan. She has freckles!

| David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson cover Variety: 'we really like each other' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I’m so excited for The X-Files premiere on Fox, which is this Sunday and Monday. (I just set my DVR!) It’s getting bad reviews, but I watched the movie with the villain who was just a talking head (ok I watched it twice), and I’m going to watch all six episodes of this show no matter what. EW says it stars out poorly but picks up in the third episode, which is good enough for me. (Incidentally, creator Chris Carter wrote the poorly reviewed first episode.) I just love these characters so much and I want to see what happens with them.
As promotion for the show, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson cover Variety. Their quotes about each other remind me of their flirty giggly joint appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, where Anderson was practically falling all over Duchovny. I floated the theory that they’re boning and some of you said it’s been on between them for a while while other people insisted Anderson is just a goofy person. In Varity, they don’t exactly gush about each other but it sounds like they thoroughly enjoy working together. Maybe that’s because it’s on between them!
Duchovny on how much better they get along now
“The crucible of doing that show made monsters out of both of us. Once we got to step back, it was like, ?Oh, wow, we really like each other. I didn?t know that was going to happen.?
?The way we work together has changed. Whatever rapport we have as actors, we earned. It?s nice to be able to play that without ever even feeling like you?re playing it.?
Anderson on working with Duchovny
“Our relationship has definitely become a proper friendship over the last few years. I think we?re more on each other?s side. We?re more aware of the other?s needs, wants, concerns, and mindful to take those into consideration? and just sharing more about our experiences in the moment, under the sudden realization that we?re both in this together, and wouldn?t it be nice if it were a collaboration?”
Duchovny on whether they would do a longer series
“Gillian and I have talked about (doing more episodes), and then we just stop because we get to 2023 and we still haven?t found a date we can do it. It?s like, ?Let?s just wait and see what happens after this,? and then we can start to talk seriously about whether we can make it work again.”
Creator Chris Carter dismisses the bad reviews
“What seemed to be under review was the fact that we were coming back at all. They were reviews of our intentions rather than reviews of the show itself.”
[From Variety]
In terms of whether the X-Files will come back on a more permanent basis, I think that’s down to how this six episode arc performs more than to Duchovny and Anderson’s schedules. They’re both busy people but if there’s a big demand I bet they would be open to doing more. Given the negative advance buzz, I’m not hopeful. Still, it’s Anderson, Duchovny and Joel McHale! They’re all highly talented, watchable actors, they just need decent material. That might not even matter if the numbers are good, so we’ll have to wait and see.

I saw the headline on People Magazine, “See Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Reunite on the X-Files Set,” and I squeed a little. Then I braced myself for the possibility that none of our photo agencies would have the pics, but I was wrong they do – and holy sh*t, there’s Joel McHale! If you add Joel McHale to any production, however terrible, I will watch it.
We heard last week that McHale would be joining the X-Files reboot and actually seeing him on set is incredible. Variety reports that he’s playing “Tad O?Malley, a conservative news anchor who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.” I’ll take it. It makes sense too, because some of those conservative talking heads are huge conspiracy theorists. Look at how badass McHale is in his suit and glasses. These pics were taken on set in Vancouver yesterday.
Here’s a photo of McHale cracking up Anderson and Duchovny. It looks like they’re not even filming at this point and that he’s just making witty observations.
Moving on, here’s Duchovny going in to kiss Anderson on the cheek. Maybe they’re filming but he looks like a creeper here. She’s trying to move away from him.
In terms of the costuming, People drops a minor spoiler by pointing out that Duchovny “is noticeably not dressed for official FBI work, which could indicate that his character, Fox Mulder, may not have rejoined the bureau in these new episodes.” People may actually be reporting a tip here instead of just jumping to conclusions, but we’ll have to wait and see if more information comes out.
On a superficial note, I love Anderson’s hair here. They gave her strawberry blonde color in a more modern style. Do you remember her deep red helmet hair? I had hair just like that in the mid 90s and it was no coincidence.
The X-Files is scheduled to return for six new episodes in January, 2016. Here’s Anderson with showrunner Chris Carter.
