Emmy Rossum covers the February issue of Complex magazine to promote Shameless, which I still haven’t watched. I want to watch it, really, but I’m a television commitment phobe. It will happen eventually. Emmy’s so physically lovely, and I’ve heard so many great things about the show. This Complex spread is all leather and vinyl, and Emmy looks good. Her body is pretty insane.
The interview is rather surprising because it contains a lot of substance. I guess I’m used to Emmy pulling up a chair and yakking about her dog’s massive wang to magazines. She still talks about sex here, but it’s rather deep stuff to be coming out of a starlet’s mouth. Let’s get to it, shall we?
On the nannies that raised her: “They were all women who were in their 60s–my mom wouldn?t let anyone who was of procreating age take care of me. My nannies taught me that if you wanted it bad enough, impossible things could happen, like your dad coming back. That was something that was verbalized to me as a kid, like, ‘If you light this many candles or if you pray or do this or do that….’ It made me disillusioned as a teen when that didn?t happen, and when I started becoming known as an actress and it still didn?t happen. There were a lot of disappointments. That?s something I draw on for characters and that?s definitely where my distrust stems from. I feel like I?m going to read this and be like, ‘Wow, I was way too open.’”
On having an absent father: “It initially made me want a relationship with my father more but I realized that?s not possible. He?s not interested in that. Whether or not I was ready to face that, I had to. I definitely have feelings of abandonment and self-protection over that, and Fiona does, too. Her feelings toward her mom are probably closer to my feelings toward my dad because her mom is MIA and my dad is MIA. We have that childish hope that somebody who doesn?t care about you suddenly will.”
She’s not a Hollywood trainwreck: “Nobody can give you a guidebook on how to play it. Jennifer Lawrence plays it best because she’s not playing it. People can tell when you’re playing. I must not be that interesting. I don?t like the club scene and most of the people I?ve dated haven?t been actors, so I?ve finagled my way out of it. But it’s not as if paparazzi don?t park outside my house and snap my photo. They do. I just [don't] go to clubs without my underwear on. The club scene just never interested me. It?s not like I didn?t do it for a week, but then it was boring to me. I couldn?t hear anybody. I love getting to know people. In the club you?re oversaturated and not experiencing the people you?re with.”
On her biggest romantic fail: “I was walking down the street in Greenwich Village late at night with a fellow I went on a few dates with and a bar was playing a Justin Bieber song. I started dancing and having fun with it. I knew some of the words. He must have thought I really liked Justin Bieber because a couple weeks later I was on location and he sent me a care package with an autographed picture of Justin Bieber and a bunch of my favorite candy. I thought it was funny so I sent him an autographed picture of Carly Rae Jepsen. Our relationship ended shortly thereafter. But I actually had the picture of Justin Bieber up ironically in my room for a couple months. It was pretty funny. That was before he was urinating in public and saying Anne Frank would?ve been a ‘Belieber.’”
On sexual themes in pop music: “There’s this Enrique Iglesias song ‘Tonight (I?m F—in? You).’ It?s basically about tonight he goes to a club, he sees a girl, and then he?s going to f— her. How about buy her a drink first? How about find out her last name? It sends women the message that that?s how you should be treated, because girls are programmed to want the famous guy, to listen to what they say. There?s a lot of harm that could be done through stuff like that. Women putting that sentiment out there, I have no problem with that. There?s a kind of female empowerment that Sex in the City started that women should retain their sexual power. That?s not how I approach sex, but if a woman wants to have sex that way, I?m OK with her doing that. I think there should be equality. The idea of sex being in a club. ‘Tonight, I?m f—ing you’? To me it;s just so gross.”

I don?t watch ?Shameless,? so I?m afraid I have no idea what Emmy?s character is so upset about. It?s good to see that Emmy isn?t a method actor, at least. As you can see in other pictures, once the cameras stopped rolling she was all smiles.
The actress isn’t dating anyone at the moment after her two-year relationship with Shameless co-star Tyler Jacob Moore ended in July.

Treating herself to a swanky evening out, Emmy Rossum attended Antonio Berardi?s private dinner party at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night (January 7).
The ?Shameless? stunner looked gorgeous in a sparkly green dress teamed with a black clutch and strappy heels as she waited patiently for her valet to retrieve her car.
With the dry winter months ahead, Emmy knows just the thing to help keep her sexy smooth skin in top form.
Ms. Rossum told Hollywood Life, ?I actually got [Restorsea Eye Cream] in a gift bag and I am such a beauty junkie. I always try everything that?s in a gift bag. I first noticed that it was a natural product. My history with natural products is that I love the idea of them but they don?t usually work ? when I tried this, I could feel an immediate difference in my skin from the first time I used it. As I continued to use it and actually switched exclusively to it, I could notice that my skin was more hydrated and firmer and just kind of more glowy. So that?s why I fell in love with the line.?

Emmy Rossum sort-of covers Esquire. I say sort-of because the cover is full of quotes from celebrities and is taken up by giant block lettering with a 90s dropshadow that reads “The Meaning of Life.” Emmy is featured as a grayscale thumbnail in the corner, which is just as well because she’s half naked. Our ad company has warned us not to post “strategically covered nudes,” which definitely describes these photos, so we could either post the Esquire photos of Emmy here and blur the hell out of them or you can just go see them over on E! They’re pretty revealing, Emmy is showing underboob and she’s in tiny panties. The Photoshopping makes Emmy look like more like a smooth doll than a person, as is typical for magazine spreads. It’s also very typical for Esquire to get women to undress and look sexy while making the men look manly. Here’s the cover:
Emmy’s interview with Esquire’s Ryan D’Agostino was conducted via Skype, and it’s very chatty. It’s just a transcript, which is a great idea because Esquire can editorialize and their journalists can be exceptionally harsh critics of celebrities. (We should talk, I know, but they do that.) So it’s nice to hear Emmy in her own words. She’s chatty and open, and she jokes about her pets, talks about how lucky she is, and describes helping a car accident victim outside her house. It’s pretty interesting:

Here?s a picture of Audrey [Hepburn] that I love. That?s not why I have her picture, though [because she played her in a movie]. I think she?s supercool. [Walking.] This is the room that everyone always hangs out in. This is the craft area. And that?s the kitchen. And this is my outside. I have a fire pit. And a garden. Thank you, Showtime! A little oasis of craftiness… That?s my little life.
On how she saved her cat but doesn’t like cats
I found her in Chicago. She was a stray, and she set up shop in my trailer. She was mean. I mean really mean. So this is Fiona G. Kitty. The ghetto kitty. I took her to a vet and they said she was probably dying of breast cancer. [Stroking cat, in a loving voice] Cancer Kitty. I hate cats. But this cancer cat made me feel bad, so I was like, Okay, I?ll take her back to L.?A. and give her her last six months of pain-free life.
So I took her to the vet in L.?A. and he was like, This is a beautiful cat. And I said, Yeah, but too bad about the cancer. And he said, What cancer? And I?m like, You know, the lump on her stomach. And he?s like, You mean the hernia? I can take that out when I neuter her. She?s gonna live twenty-five years! And I was like, You f*king cat with your lying cancer sob story.

So that?s Cinnamon. He?s real small… He has a really big penis.
He was a present. [Out of the side ofher mouth, as if not wanting Cinnamon to hear] I wanted a Rhodesian ridgeback. But I had a really shitty boyfriend who gave him to me. [Normal voice] And, of course, when a really cute dog shows up on your doorstep, you can?t be like, Yeah, no. You?re like, Oh, yay, puppy! Also: Never get your girlfriend a pet that she didn?t know she was getting.
On being grateful
It?s amazing how things can be put into perspective for you so easily. Last weekend, I was pulling out of my house, and I saw a body in the road and blood everywhere. This guy had been hit by a car. I called 911 and stayed with him. You see how lucky you are to just be alive. All the Hollywood bullshit and accolades and money really doesn?t matter. It just gives you a slightly nicer house and slightly nicer food and slightly shinier hair.

I didn’t realize Emmy was kind of funny/crass. She reminds me of her character on Shameless and it sounds like she would be cool to hang out with. I like how grateful and matter-of-fact she sounds here. Hopefully the accident victim she helped is ok, although she may not know.
As for her dog, which was an unwanted gift from a “sh*tty boyfriend,” I wonder who the boyfriend was. She was with Tyler Jacob Moore, the cop on Shameless, until this summer, and now she’s with another co-star, Jake McDorman (pictured below) who plays her boss.
I found another recent interview with Emmy in which she talks about her haircare, skincare, and fashion. She said that she’s her own stylist and that she gets ideas from Pinterest, which explains a lot.
Shameless comes back January 12, I can’t wait!

It?s one of the most anticipated films of the holiday season, so it?s no wonder Emmy Rossum jumped at the chance to see ?August: Osage County? at a charity screening last night (December 5).
The ?Shameless? actress was gorgeous in a black and white printed dress with red lipstick as she posed outside the Children Mending Hearts & Episcopal School of LA benefit at the Landmark Theater.
Prior to the shindig, Emmy took to her Twitter account to share her anticipation- ?So excited to see August: Osage County tonight.?
Slated to hit theaters on December 25th, ?August: Osage County? is ?A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.?
