Will and Jada Pinkett Smith opened up their insane 25,000 square foot adobe-style home in Calabassas, CA for a cover spread in the upcoming issue of Architectural Digest. The home was of course custom built, and Will explains that it has no dead ends in order “to create an infinite cycle that represented what Jada and I hoped for our love.” Are your eyes rolling out of your head yet? Your mouth will fall open involuntarily when you see the Bing birds’ eye view of this property, which shows that it could easily serve as a full service resort hotel. [virtual globetrotting via ONTD]
The interior photos make the property look like a hotel, too with plenty of seating areas and props spread around. Will explained to AD that everything was built by hand.
Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, grace the cover of AD?s September issue, sharing with us their family?s highly personal retreat near Calabasas, California. The feature?which focuses on the home?s sophisticated common spaces as well as the children?s bright bedrooms?represents the first time the talented clan has been photographed together as a group.
The Smith home, designed by architect Stephen Samuelson, includes innumerable handcrafted elements to ensure a feeling of intimacy and love in the 25,000-square-foot house. And Will reveals that the idea behind the residence?s fascinating circuitous floor plan was ?no dead ends?to create an infinite cycle that represented what Jada and I hoped for our love.?
The design of the home is anchored by ?various interpretations of adobe in Persian, Moroccan, Spanish, as well as Southwest American cultures,? says Samuelson. The property has an undeniable spiritual quality, exemplified by Jada?s meditation room. ?For Will and me this home was always a spiritual endeavor?we?re very earthy, organic people. We wanted to create a family retreat, something made by hand and as natural as possible, something that ties back to the land,? she explains. ?Whatever it becomes, the craftsmanship will always represent our union and the love of our family.?
[From Architectural Digest, received via e-mail]
The slideshow on AD’s website has some more photos that make the house look even more like a luxury retreat, but there aren’t any photos of Willow and Jaden’s bedrooms yet. They’re saving that for the print edition, out August 9th. I’ll be sure to thumb through it the first chance I get. I really want to see those kids’ bedrooms. You know they’re better equipped than an average Chuck E. Cheese.
Will Smith’s estimated net worth is $188 million. He was the fourth highest earner on Forbes’ list of the highest earning actors for 2010, pulling in an estimated $36 million dollars last year alone. That’s not including whatever Jada is making and whatever their kids earn from their acting and singing careers.

Teaming up for some promotional duties, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith were spotted arriving at SIRIUS Satellite Radio Studios in New York City today (June 13).
The ?Fresh Prince of Bel Air? stud and his beautiful wife both dressed casually and smiled for the shutterbugs as they strolled past.
During her interview with Ryan Seacrest, Jada bragged about her daughter Willow Smith and her blossoming music career.
?Willow is doing fantastic! She?s got two new singles that will be dropping this summer. She just finished up with her music in the studio and she?s ready to get back into it. You?ll be seeing a lot more of her and of course she will probably come and see you first with the new hot joint.?
As for motherhood, Jada shared, ?I think the most fulfilling thing is allowing them to fulfill their dreams and seeing them fly. This is probably the most gratifying experience that I could have. Giving them the opportunities that they?ve had and being by their sides will be most gratifying thing that I will probably ever do in my life.?

| Jada Pinkett Smith on her parenting style: 'I get why people would criticize' | Added 13 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
Jada Pinkett Smith covers the July issue of Uptown Magazine, likely to promote that dumb TNT show that I believe just premiered its new season (HawthoRNe, meh). Surprisingly, Jada doesn?t talk about her sex life, like she almost always does. She doesn?t talk about what I?m guessing are her cheek implants, either. Those are implants, right? Like, she got one size down from Madonna?s chicken cutlet implants. So, what does Jada talk about? Her kids. Her music career. Seriously, I forgot she had a music career??
On her 14-year-marriage to Will Smith: ‘People think that Will and I don’t spend a lot of time together. Too much time, actually, if you ask me… It’s always nice to have a little time apart. Sometimes you need that.’
Different priorities as a parent: ‘There was a time when all I had to worry about was myself. I’d get offers to do things - to go to Bolivia for three months or go to Prague - and now it’s like, I can’t. It’s not about me anymore, it’s about me being there for my kids. And there’s no one else I would leave that job to.’
Willow & Jaden are a lot like their parents: ‘Believe it or not, they’re both like me and Will… Willow’s a lot like me - just in the chances she’ll take. And then, Jaden has the drive of his father. Jaden and I are what I call introverted extroverts. Willow and Will are more pow! Jaden and I, well, we don’t give that to just anybody.’
Don?t worry about her kids: ‘There are so many other kids you can worry about. My kids? They’re going to be all right. I get why people would criticize. But people need to know that Will and I would never put our children in a situation that would bring them detriment. If I survived everything that I survived in Baltimore and Will survived everything he survived in Philly, these kids surely can survive the Hollywood game.?
On ending her music career: ?I miss [my music career] tremendously, but it?s one of those things that I wear with a badge of honor because it expresses what I prioritize, and that?s my family. When Jaden did The Pursuit of Happyness, I was supposed to go on tour with Guns N? Roses in Europe. It was probably the most heartbreaking experience. But what I realized is that sometimes God will place things in your life that will make you recognize what your priorities are. I adore my son; he?s my soul seed. There was no way that I was going to allow him to do [a movie] and not have his mother.?
[From Bossip & The Mail]
Okay, I?m not a huge fan of Jada in general, but I think she came across really well in this interview. If I was a parent, I don?t think I would put my kids out there like Will and Jada have, but ultimately, I do think Jada and Will have every right to raise their kids how they see fit, and I believe they are taking some precautions to shield their kids from the harsher parts of the industry. We?ll see if Jaden and Willow turn into grounded, well-adjusted adults years from now, but I don?t see the point in bashing the family at this point.
By the way, what always surprises me about the criticisms of the Smith kids is that so much it comes from the African-American community. Months ago, there was a huge thing when writer Terry McMillan accused Will and Jada of ?exploiting? and ?pimping? their kids. At the time, Jada reacted with surprising grace, saying in an interview:
“This isn’t about fame or money. They were still going to have their trials because of who their parents are. As much as I wish I could figure out a way I could protect my children, they have their destiny. I’m not going to put brakes on that out of fear. Our children are allowed to stay in the paradigm of being a child. They don’t have to take care of their families: become the complete emotional, physical and financial focus that happens to many child stars. Our family structure is a little different and it’s quite hard to comprehend because it’s so outside what usually happens in a family, but the paradigm is the same. You have Mother. You have Father. Father is protective. Mother is the teacher. Most of the time with child stars, the child has all the responsibilities and the mother and father don’t understand what’s actually happening to them, so the child can trust no one… But with us the paradigm stays the same because the child can still be the child with an extraordinary gift. It is something to manage. I will not overlook that. I have a 10 year old who can stand up in front of an audience of 17,000 and rock the house. I have to keep her grounded.”
[Jada?s comments via Starpulse]
I think she made a good point - they?re not traditional stage parents of child performers. This is not the Jackson family, for the love of God. They have the means and connections to let their kids have early careers, and maybe it?s all a learning experience.

Showing up for a departing flight out of LAX, Willow and Jada Smith were spotted on Sunday (November 7) in Los Angeles.
The ?Whip My Hair? chick and her ?Madagascar? mama both looked cute as they rocked some red boots and politely smiled for the on-hand paparazzi before passing through the security checkpoint.
In other news, the 10-year star recently paid a visit to ?The Ellen DeGeneres Show? where she sat down for a chat with Ellen.
During the interview, Ellen jokingly gave Willow a decorated neck brace in case she ever got whiplash from the whipping her hair too much.

| Jada Pinkett Smith's face is still sketchy, but she got rid of the bangs trauma | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

All of us spent way too much time this summer talking about and thinking about Jada Pinkett Smith?s face. I asked you guys what was wrong/different with Jada when she started making a ton of appearances with her son Jaden to promote The Karate Kid. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and suggested that perhaps it was weight loss combined with some truly unfortunate Bangs Trauma wigs. Many of you disagreed, claiming that she had gone in for some Madonna-esque chicken cutlet implants. I?m starting to agree.
Anyway, these are new photos of Jada and Willow in Milan. I think Jada did a cute mother-daughter jaunt to Italy so that they could see some of the fashion shows - they were at Armani and Jada went to Pucci alone. Willow even put some white stuff at the end of her hair? to coordinate with her clothes, I guess? Sure. I do think Willow looks cute, by the way. And I bet she had a great time. I guess my point is that Jada seems like a great mom, and it hurts me to think that she?s f-cking with face, and sending the signal to Willow that once you get to a certain age, you have to get drastic surgery to look ?young.? That being said, I?m so glad Jada put away the bangs trauma wig. That thing was hideous.

Making for a fun-filled overseas outing, Jada Pinkett Smith and adorable daughter Willow were side-by-side in Milan, Italy on Saturday (September 25).
The Smith ladies grabbed a front row perch as they chatted with Pierre Sarkozy at the Emporio Armani Womenswear Spring/Summer 2011 fashion show during Milan Fashion Week.
The fashionable festivities come after young Willow has recently kicked off a hopeful music career by debuting a now-hit song "Whip My Hair" while also signing with Jay-Z's record label.
Talking about not being afraid to be different, Willow said of the meaning behind the tune, ?You can?t be afraid to be yourself. You have to be yourself. You can?t let anybody tell you that that?s wrong.?

Out enjoying the sights of the Big Apple, Jada Pinkett Smith and daughter Willow were spotted walking around New York City on Wednesday (September 1).
The ?Reign Over Me? actress and her 10-year-old little girl both looked super cool in shades and casual clothes as they made their way around Central Park.
Both Willow and her 12-year-old brother, Jaden, are following in their famous parent's footsteps and pursuing a career in acting.
Jaden recently starred in the remake of Karate Kid, which was produced by Jada and his father, Will Smith.

| Jada Pinkett Smith hasn't touched alcohol in more than 13 years | Added 14 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?ve mentioned this before, but my new favorite feature at Us Weekly is their ?25 Things You Don?t Know About?? piece. I?m not sure how it works, if someone from Us Weekly speaks to the celebrity and just transcribes their list or if the celebrity just emails it in or whatever, but usually the lists are pretty awesome. Elizabeth Taylor even did one! Hers rocked. Anyway, this week?s featured celebrity is Jada Pinkett Smith. Since it?s my new favorite feature, I skimmed Jada?s list and was actually surprised! She sounds kind of? cool. Not as cool as she thinks she is, but still a lot better than she usually comes across. Some fun facts: Jada hasn?t had a drop of alcohol in more than 13 years (WHAT?) and Big Will doesn?t make her list of favorite rappers (SHAME!).
1. I met my husband, Will Smith, when I was 19 and auditioned to be his date on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They said I was too short to play the part.
2. Four years later, Will asked me to play his girlfriend on the show, but I said no because I thought he was too tall.
3. When I turn 60 and leave the red carpet, I am going to get the tattoo arm sleeve I have always wanted.
4. I won a lip-synching contest in high school performing “Baby I’m a Star” by Prince.
5. I haven’t consumed alcohol in 13-plus years.
6. I finally love being a girl.
7. I find fame to be quite unnatural. Humans are not built for extreme adoration.
8. Jamey Johnson, Sugarland and Toby Keith are my favorite country artists.
9. I love religion and have contemplated going back to school to get a world religion degree.
10. If I had my way, I’d wear jewelry, a great pair of heels and nothing else.
11. First white guy I ever kissed: Michael Vartan…psych!
12. My favorite Latin singer/actor is Marc Anthony.
13. I have three pet red-tail boa constrictors, named Beauty, Logic and Passion.
14. My favorite metal bands are Mastodon, Crowbar and Skindred.
15. I brought home a dog and two cats from the streets of China after filming The Karate Kid.
16. I have over 40 filled journals.
17. I look at how one chooses to live her life as a piece of art.
18. This year, I’m devoted to building wells to provide clean water for villages across Africa through CharityWater.org.
19. The Smith family has already helped build several wells in Ethiopia.
20. I’ve produced a Broadway musical [Fela!]; now I want to perform in one.
21. Carol’s Daughter’s perfume My Life is my new scent.
22. My go-to outfit is a pair of black sweats and crisp white sneaks.
23. I like writing and receiving letters.
24. Our children, Trey [17], Jaden [12] and Willow [9], have taught me the most in life
25. Tupac and Mos Def are my favorite rappers.
[From Us Weekly]
She sounds almost like someone you want to hang with, right? If you can get past the boa constrictors, which I can. I like snakes. I wonder who the first white dude she ever kissed really was? John Travolta? I?m just throwing that name out there because Travolta was the first one I thought of. I?m looking through her credits, and I can?t see any white boys she made out with. Damn, it really might be Michael Vartan!
By the way, do you think she?s an alcoholic? Or did she just stop drinking for health reasons or diet reasons? I wonder. If she?s not an alcoholic, and she just stopped drinking for other reasons, I?d suggest that she give alcohol another try, honestly. There have been so many times when I?ve been reading one her interviews when I wished both she and I could be sipping on something hard.
One more thing: this wig has got to go. It?s TERRIBLE.

It has been a hit all over the world, and yesterday (July 25) ?The Karate Kid? made its debut in Paris, France.
Stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan were in the house at the Grand Rex Theater, as were Jaden?s parents Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and sister Willow.
In a recent interview, Jaden told press that working out to prepare for the film has given him a physique to rival that of Taylor Lautner.
?I want to stay buff, you know. I'm trying to get my Taylor Lautner thing going on. Just in case they need a stunt double or something. I'm like, ?Buff guy, here! Ready for any action, ready to turn into a werewolf at any time!'?

Jada Pinkett Smith?s face is still scaring the hell out of me. Also - I wanted to thank all of the commenters who suggested that she?d gotten The Madonna Chicken Cutlets Cheek Implant Special. That makes sense, because Jada?s ?cheekbones? weren?t always this high. I also think she did something with her eyes - they look really different to me, and it?s not just the chicken cutlets. The wig sucks too. But I imagine it costs a lot to look this horrible. Anyway?
While Jada, Will and the family travel around the world supporting Jaden and The Karate Kid, someone asked Jada some questions. She was thrilled! Probably because she couldn?t pay people to ask her about her crapfest TNT show, HawthoRNe (poor Michael Vartan, whenever I see him in the commercials, I wince). Anyway, Jada confirmed that she was asked to play Jaden?s mom in The Karate Kid, but turned it down:
Jada Pinkett Smith has revealed that she turned down a role in the remake of The Karate Kid.
The actress, whose son Jaden Smith stars as lead character Dre Parker, said that she did not want to portray her son’s on screen mom.
“There was talk about me playing Jaden’s mother in the movie but I felt that he was going to really need his mom off camera. Mummy support,” BANG Showbiz quotes her as saying. “So we felt like we really had to be there as parents and producers just to make sure Jaden was being taken care of.”
Pinkett Smith added that she and husband Will Smith acted as producers to help guide Jaden through his first big screen leading role.
She said: “Well, we knew that we had to participate in some way. We have so much knowledge between the two of us that we want to pass on to our children. So we knew it was important to participate.”
[From Digital Spy]
I do admire her for that. I like that Will and Jada seem to be setting boundaries and a solid support system for their kids, and I really do think they?re good parents. They take their family seriously, and I have nothing but applause and kudos for the way they?re transitioning Jaden into public life. Yes, he comes across as a little full of himself. But he?s also really young, and his parents are being really smart about it, so good for all of them.
Here are some more pics of the family - Willow kills me every time! I love that kid.
