| Brooke Burke: learn how to weight train after 50, it shifts your hormones | Added 134 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Well, ladies, they say that menopause comes for us all, and with it, comes all of the annoying hormonal symptoms that we can?t escape. I turned 40 earlier this year, and since then, I have been waiting for perimenopause to catch up with me. I?ve eagerly read all of your comments on other posts relating to menopause and bought Dr. Jen Gunter?s The Menopause Manifesto to be prepared. One of the things I?ve read about is how women really need to incorporate weight training into their routine as they get older in order to make up for the loss of muscle mass and bone density that contributes to weight gain.
As it happens, Brooke Burke turns 53 this year. Brooke has always been very tuned into health and fitness, and her workout routine has changed as she?s aged. Brooke recently did an interview with Fox News Digital in which she talked about how her workout routine has changed since hitting menopause. Similar to what I have read, Brooke?s new workout routine includes weight training with heavier weights in order to jump start the metabolism, create strength, and shift your hormones.
This stage of my life as a woman, Mother Nature is just dishing out challenge after challenge for us, the television personality told Fox News Digital in a conversation about fitness and wellness. Burke, 53 in September, has incorporated compound exercises and heavy weights into her workout regimen, the latter of which women often stray away from.
I want to speak to this quickly because most women are afraid of heavy weights. And theres this myth attached to it that were going to get bulky. Not true. Like, we would have to consume so much protein and go so heavy and be so diligent about that program to really change the body, she said.
What I found, Im in my 50s, no one prepared us for menopause and said, ?Learn how to weight train.? The reason we need to weight train is for bone density. Its bone health, osteoporosis. It shifts your hormones. It kicks up your metabolism. It creates strength. It allows you to develop more coordination so we can do other things.
Its the first time Im really adding heavy weights. And heavy for me is like 10 pound arms, right? Ive always added heavy weights to my booty burn programs to build curves in the glute muscles, said Burke, who hosts a LIVE! Zoom workout class every Friday on her website, BrookeBurke.com. But its making me stronger. Im feeling my body changing, Im able to maintain lean muscle. Im also adding a lot of protein to my diet because my body needs it.
Depriving your body of what it needs ? food ? is something the former Dancing with the Stars host recommends you dont do.
I feel like we are in a phase in our country of a quick fix. And that fad diet and shocking the system and so much discipline that were not enjoying our life. I am eating more. Im leaner, Im stronger, and Im more satisfied. And I have more energy. Im eating nutrient-dense foods, Im eating more protein. My smoothie ? the other day on social media, somebody asked me how many calories were in my smoothie. I was like, ?I do not count calories.? I just dont. I wont. I have enough stuff to count in my life, she said. There are so many calories in my smoothie, but heres the difference. Its nutrient dense. Its loaded with good fats. Im fueling my brain. Im feeding my body. Im energizing my whole system. Its just a retraining of the brain. Eat, everybody. Dont starve.
Burke says that while she does intermittent fasts in the morning, she does it with intention and puts full cream in her coffee.
I never would have done that. The younger me? No chance. Im feeling my body with that. Im satisfied and Im eating really well. Flavorful meals, herbs, spices, oils, its a different way of approaching wellness. Different than when I was in my 20s. Its better, and its more fun, and its more flavorful.
[From Fox News]
Literally everything that Brooke says here is something that I read over the past few weeks or come to realize over the last couple of years. I?ve tried to adjust my diet and fitness routine accordingly. I?ve always been big on doing core work like planks and push ups, but have generally shied away from doing any weight work over 5lbs. Like many people, I was also worried about getting ?bulky,? even though I?ve heard for ages that this is just a myth. I take Pure Barre classes a few times a week and last year, started doing their weight-based class, Define, which has gotten me up to using 10lb weights. I did notice a change in my body when I started taking that class, but it?s only once a week, and I feel like I?ve stalled out over the past few months. I need to find another way to add weights to my routine.
Brooke is also right about how important it is to focus on nutrition. As we get older, it is important to make sure we?re eating to fuel our bodies in order to keep our energy up and our metabolisms going. I?ve noticed that when I have smaller, yet more filling meals that incorporate a protein, healthy fat, and vegetable, my body reacts better than if I was going to skip meals. It?s crazy how much our bodies change as we get older, and how we have to stay on top of these things! If anyone has any other tips or advice on ways to adjust for your body as it changes, please, feel free to share.

| Brooke Burke Charvet on whether you should date before you are officially divorced | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I?m reporting on Brooke Burke Charvet again because her essay on getting divorced from her husband of seven years, David Charvet, really touched me. She?s a good writer and has an open and emotionally vulnerable perspective on divorce. I covered that last month and this was my favorite line she wrote ?It took me a long time to differentiate between giving up and letting go.? That?s poignant and describes so many circumstances.
Brooke was a guest on Steve Harvey?s talk show, on a panel of three women that included Tamar Braxton and Julissa Bermudez. Steve brought up the issue of Jada Pinkett Smith admitting that she dated Will Smith before he was officially divorced and asked if this was ever an option. They all said that it depends, basically.
Would you date someone before they were officially divorced?
JB: They should be separated I think first. It?s a process, [divorce] takes a while. It depends how long they?ve been separated.
TB: I disagree with that. That?s still my husband. I feel like when you file for divorce and you?re living in different places. Yes it?s cool to date other people but not just separated. We [are] taking a break.
BC: It really depends because getting divorced can take a long time. People can have filed for divorce and it can take years, and a lot of people separate with the intention of never getting back together but there are other legal complications.
Im more concerned about the emotional separation and the emotional divorce than the legal document requiring a signature.
[From video of the Steve Harvey Show via E! Online]
After that Steve said he was an expert at divorce. (He is, he?s also a serial cheater who royally screwed his first wife.) Tamar said that some guys end up in a ?cheaper to keep her? situation and string the other woman along, which is definitely true. A lot of men claim to be separated when they?re still with their wives. We?ve seen this with celebrity women getting bamboozled by married men whose wives end up talking to the press. I?m thinking of Paula Patton and Mel B recently and I?m sure there are more. It?s messy and soul-sucking to get drawn in by charismatic men who are bullsh-tters and liars. If a guy claims his wife doesn?t understand him and/or is constantly complaining about how crazy an ex is, that?s a red flag regardless of their status. (I?ve actually had this happen on a first date.)
There?s also the stereotype of women relishing freedom after a separation and men going out and getting another girlfriend as soon as possible. Steve said this, that ?I?m going to get over you with another you. Men don?t have to go nowhere up in the mountains and find theyself after we break up.? Steve always has jumpoffs and sidepieces so it?s not like he waits until after a breakup.
I like Brooke?s answer, that it really depends on the situation. You also have to trust your instincts and throughly vet someone. It?s hard to date and to trust people in your 40s. It takes work and when you do find someone you can vacillate between being too naive and waiting for the other shoe to drop. You have to keep perspective.

Continuing to share more advice on how to stay in top shape, Brooke Burke-Charvet fronts the April 2014 issue of Health magazine.
The former "Dancing with the Stars" hostess showed off her flawless tummy for the Cliff Watts-shot front page while chatting about everything from her workout schedule to her former obsession with dieting.
Highlights from Miss Burke-Charvet are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Health!
On her booty burn class:
"I wanted to experiment with real women and see how far I could push them, what works, how their bodies were going to change, what was hard enough, what was too hard. I started out two years ago with a couple of friends who brought a couple of friends, and it became this really great group of women."
On her intense fitness routines:
"I get twice the workout when I'm teaching. And I love seeing the women support each other and transform. I do it every Sunday faithfully and a couple of days a week if I'm not working."
On her experience with crazy fad diets:
"I did a lot of them. I used to weigh my food. I used to measure my food. I used to work way too hard at dieting and spend way too much time at the gym."
On David:
"We met in Mexico, and it was the perfect example of right guy, wrong time because we had this beautiful affair, came back to L.A. and just stayed friends. If we had gotten together then, we wouldn't have made it. We had to grow up. And then we found each other much later in life, and it was the right time"

| Jennifer Love Hewitt & Brooke Burke Charvet Celebrate Mickey Through the Decades | Added 11 years ago | Source: Celebrity Gossip |

Honoring one of the world's most beloved animated characters, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brooke Burke Charvet attended the Mickey Through the Decades collection event at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California on Saturday (July 13).
The "Client List" star showed off her growing baby bump in a gray vintage Mickey and Minnie tank top and black pants while the "Dancing with the Stars" champ donned a Minnie Mouse T-shirt and high low white patterned skirt.
Though usually a social media fan, the mommy-to-be recently had a change of heart, abandoning her much-used Twitter account.
On July 3rd, Jennifer said farewell, tweeting, "Unfortunately with all the negativity people choose to send on twitter as well as threats to there own well being. I'm sad to say twitter is no longer for me. I have enjoyed all the kindness and love that came my way, as well as support. But this break is needed. Life should be filled with positivity and holding each other up, not making threats and sending bad vibes. To those of you who made it a joy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Working hard to maintain her flawless figure, Brooke Burke showed up at a fitness center in Malibu, California yesterday afternoon (March 3).
And it was clear that the effort was paying off, as Ms. Burke?s chiseled abs and slim physique garnered her plenty of attention from fans and paparazzi.
Having recovered from thyroid cancer surgery, Brooke recently explained how she sees the ordeal as an opportunity to refocus her life.
"Balance is a big wish for me, I think I just manage it all. Guilt is certainly a choice. It used to be that I was last on the totem pole and I put myself very last on the list even behind my husband, but now I feel really good in the fact that I'm as important as anyone in the family, we all matter.?
She added, "I book my workouts; I book my alone time, just like I book appointments for the kids just like I book date night for my husband. And I think that's all so important. It's so easy to lose yourself as a mother. It's so easy to just take care of everybody else. I think it's really important for women, for anyone, to really to do that for themselves as well.?
