Gisele Bundchen appeared on The Ellen Show this week to talk about her many projects and books and whatever. She ended up talking mostly about Tom Brady and their life together, and I ended up feeling sort of sad. Like, am I almost sympathetic towards Gisele? I think her marriage is generally fine, but as the years go on and Tom Brady?s contract with the Patriots continues, you can tell that Gisele isn?t happy about it. She flat-out wants him to retire. But she doesn?t want to be (or to be seen) as That Wife Who Demands That Her Husband Quit His Job. Some quotes:
Rumors that Gisele will retire: Ive never worked so hard in my life, actually. I think Ill retire only the day I die, because I love working. I love creating. I think thats why were here: to keep creating, expanding and learning.
Ellen, a Saints fan, asking if Tom is close to retiring: I think you should talk with him about that, Bndchen said. I havent been successful. Asked whether she wants him to retire, Bndchen gave a diplomatic answer. I want him to do whatever makes him happy. Maybe if you have a conversation with him, you know?
How physically taxing Tom?s job is: I definitely wouldnt want to have his job, thats for sure. Ill stay happy with mine. I think its definitely something you get concerned with, but he loves it so much. You gotta let him do what he loves.
Whether Tom is bad at anything: Hes terrible atHes not a multi-tasker. He can just do one thing at a time.
Tom?s secret talent: Hes an amazing waffle makerHe actually makes the batter and jokes with me, I cant give you the secret, otherwise you wont need me anymore. He has some secret recipe; Im sure theres some packaged thing involved. But I have never seen him making it because he literally wont let me see it. He says, Then you wont need me. I say, OK! Thats fine. It tastes delicious. I cant stop eating them.

I can?t believe Tom AND Gisele eat waffles. I thought that wasn?t allowed in their crazy 90% raw diet? I find this Classic Judgmental Gisele though: ?He has some secret recipe; Im sure theres some packaged thing involved.? I?m sure there is too his secret is likely something from Aunt Jemima. And I think it?s a gender thing most women are good multitaskers and most men are not.
As for all of the retirement talk? Gisele has wanted Tom to retire for years now. She even accidentally revealed that he?s had multiple concussions, and I?m sure she?s thinking long-term, about what her marriage is going to look like if and when Tom is diagnosed with CTE.

I?ve surprised myself by enjoying the excerpts from Gisele Bundchen?s memoir, the terribly titled Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life. I realize she?s all about natural, organic, clean eating and clean living everything, but her editor should have rejected that title. Anyway, as we know, Gisele is all about being all-natural (unless you?re talking about plastic surgery!). She?s spoken before about giving birth to her two children without drugs, but I didn?t remember that she delivered via home birth. She talks about that in her memoir too:
Gisele Bundchen couldn?t be talked out of having a home birth ? even against her doctor?s warnings. The 38-year-old model was set on delivering her first child with husband Tom Brady ? son Benjamin ? at home in 2009, even though she was almost talked out of it during her four-month checkup.
?The doctor told me that it was too dangerous for me to have a home birth. He said that Benny was in an unusual position, my hips were too small and the odds weren?t in my favor. He said it was probably best for me to schedule a c-Section.?
But the Brazilian native was set on giving birth oy her own terms, and although Brady ?wasn?t enthusiastic? about the idea at first, he eventually relented. ?My plan was to give birth in my bathtub, although I?d overlooked an important fact: I?m 5?11? and the bathtub was, well, not a lot bigger than that,? she explains. ?I was in labor with Benny for 16 hours and the last three I spent in the bathtub.?
She also told the show why she chose not to use pain medication while she was going in labor. ?I wanted to be conscious and present for what was happening,? the author explained. ?I didn?t want to be anesthetized. I wanted to feel.?
Bundchen bounced back quite quickly after welcoming her son. ?The second day, I was walking, I was washing dishes,? she recalled. ?I was making pancakes in the kitchen.?

I say this endlessly, but no, I?m not a mom and I?ve never given birth. The whole childbirth thing has always terrified me, and had I ever chosen to be pregnant, I would have also chosen the elective C-section and the strongest drugs I could get my hands on. The women who choose drugs or C-sections (or need them for medical reasons) shouldn?t be shamed, nor is it shameful or less authentic to give birth in a hospital. I believe in ?you do you? and a woman?s right to choose is about a lot of things, and there are a buffet of choices to make. All I?m saying is that Gisele?s choices don?t have to yours, and if your childbirth experiences are different, that?s fine too. I?ve always found her super-judgy and vaguely patronizing about pregnancy and childbirth, and I find this particular story to be irresponsible: if your doctor is strongly against a home birth, guess what? You should at least consider what your doctor has to say.

Gisele Bundchen has released a memoir called Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life. I remember hearing about it months ago, and thinking that it was probably going to be the Brazilian version of Goop, everything diets, holistic BS and and exercise. Turns out, she?s actually talking about some new information, like her struggles with panic attacks when she was a young model. She also confirms something that was widely reported a few years back: she got a boob job. Some highlights:
Post-breastfeeding, her boobs were smaller: ?I was always praised for my body, and I felt like people had expectations from me that I couldn?t deliver,. I felt very vulnerable, because I can work out, I can eat healthy, but I can?t change the fact that both of my kids enjoyed the left boob more than the right. All I wanted was for them to be even and for people to stop commenting on it.?
Getting a breast augmentation in 2015: ?When I woke up, I was like, ?What have I done?? I felt like I was living in a body I didn?t recognize. For the first year I wore [baggy] clothes because I felt uncomfortable.?
Tom supported her during that time: ?He just said, ?I love you no matter what? and that I looked beautiful. This was definitely another lesson: What doesn?t kill you makes you stronger. But I wish I would have learned that a different way.?
She began having panic attacks in 2003, when her profile began to blow up: After having her first panic attack during a bumpy flight on a small plane in 2003, she developed a fear of tunnels, elevators and other enclosed spaces. ?I had a wonderful position in my career, I was very close to my family, and I always considered myself a positive person, so I was really beating myself up. Like, ?Why should I be feeling this?? I felt like I wasn?t allowed to feel bad. But I felt powerless. Your world becomes smaller and smaller, and you can?t breathe, which is the worst feeling I?ve ever had.?
She began to have panic attacks all the time: ?I actually had the feeling of, ?If I just jump off my roof, this is going to end, and I never have to worry about this feeling of my world closing in.?? After seeing a specialist, who prescribed Xanax, she decided she didn?t want to rely on medication. ?The thought of being dependent on something felt, in my mind, even worse, because I was like, ?What if I lose that [pill]? Then what? Am I going to die?? The only thing I knew was, I needed help.?

First, let?s talk about panic attacks. I think I?ve written about this before, but in college, I had one awful summer and I began to have panic attacks. You really do feel like you?re going to die, your heart is racing and you can?t calm yourself at all. It?s awful. I was prescribed antidepressants too, and they didn?t really work and I stopped taking them after a few weeks. My situation just needed time and patience, but everybody is different. I respect her for talking about this, but I don?t entirely respect the fact that her panic-attack phase was the launch point for her to go on an extreme diet for life (which is what the book is about). She?s trying to make it sound like she ?cured? her panic attacks by? eating more vegetables or something. That message SUCKS.
As for what she says about her boob job? we already knew. I find it interesting that she admits that, but doesn?t talk about her obvious face work at the same time.

I?m struggling to remember, but I don?t think Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady have EVER adhered to any kind of Met Gala theme. At some point, you would think that they would accidentally fall backwards into being on-theme, but no, they never do. Gisele increasingly looks like a telenovela soap opera star and Tom looks like her male-escort ?walker.? Can you even fking believe that Gisele?s dress here is Versace? This was the worst Versace of the 2018 Met Gala it looks cheap, and like something Vanna White would wear (no disrespect to Vanna). The dress makes her boobs look SO SAD. And Tom Brady is just serving up Sprockets Realness. Messy. So messy. (One nice thing: I love Gisele?s earrings.)
Cindy Crawford also brought her boring husband and she also wore Versace. I guess you could argue that Cindy?s interpretation on the theme was that she was ?the devil? or ?sin? or something. But mostly, I think she just wanted to wear a pretty Versace gown. She looks amazing, but she could have been going anywhere.
The dudes from Migos also wore Versace and, quite honestly, they killed it. I love their looks.

As we discussed this week, the New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl. The Philadelphia Eagles won. I didn?t find the game to be controversial, nor was it a one-sided blowout. Even though I wasn?t rooting for the Pats, I had to admit that for the most part, they did a good job and they have nothing to be ashamed about. For a while there, I thought they were going to pull another epic upset like they did at the 2017 Super Bowl.
Anyway, following the Super Bowl, USA Today published a curious piece about Gisele Bundchen and how she and her kids were waiting to embrace Tom Brady after he left the field. I would imagine that USA Today managed to scoop everyone because it?s possible that Gisele and the kids happened to be waiting for Brady somewhat close to the media area behind-the-scenes. I don?t really know HOW it happened, all I know is that USA Today scooped every other outlet by quoting Gisele. Gisele apparently told her weeping children that Eagles ?haven?t won in a million years? and that the Eagles won ?just this time. Daddy won five times. They never won before. Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes? Sometimes you have to let other people win?We have to share. Sharing is caring.”
People obviously parsed the sh-t out of Gisele?s words. Patriots fans and Gisele fans argued that English isn?t her first language, or that she was just trying to put the loss in terms her children would understand. I get those arguments. But I also believe she thinks this way: if the other team won, Daddy ?let? them win. I mean, just think of all of the different ways a parent can explain a loss – in sports – to their children. Think of the teachable moment! So? Gisele heard the complaints and criticism, and she?s clarifying:
Just to be clear. No one ?let? anyone win. People win because of their own merit. Tired of people twisting my words to create drama that doesn?t exist!

Milan Fashion Week has been pretty lit this season. Over the weekend, the Versace show featured the OG supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni and Helena Christensen, plus it seems like all of the nepotism models are in Milan right now and they all got high-profile runway gigs. Milan Fashion Week also featured the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, and these are some of the photos from that event. Gisele was one of the big names there, and she wore this Stella McCartney dress. Shock of shocks? I think this is perhaps one of the best McCartney dresses I?ve ever seen. Granted, Gisele could make a paper bag look glamorous, and I?m sure that will be Stella?s next project. Also: I f–king LOVE how we?re not even supposed to say anything about Gisele?s obvious face work. Girl has gotten a mountain of plastic surgery in the past few years.
Here?s Anna Wintour and Francesco Carrozzini. Shock of shocks, Wintour didn?t wear Chanel!! She wore Tom Ford and the change was amazing. This is maybe the best frock she?s ever worn.
Naomi Campbell in Versace. If you told me this was a photo from 1999, I would believe you. She doesn?t age and her style is either timeless and perfectly dated.
Here?s Dakota Johnson in Gucci. I don?t really care for this dress (AT ALL) but I?m enjoying the changed-up styling. I prefer her without bangs, obviously. The makeup seems a little bit harsh, but I also think the lighting wasn?t that great in these photos.

Tom Brady had too many family commitments to visit Donald Trump?s White House two weeks ago. But wouldn?t you know? His family stuff cleared up in time for the Met Gala! How shocking. Granted, Tom and Gisele were named the Met Gala co-chairs months ago, so it was something he could build his schedule around. Plus, Tom and Gisele love to perform their love at the Met Gala. It is their thing. And they were in rare form last night. They were some of the first people to arrive, and they literally stood there and made out, all alone in front of the bank of photographers on either side of the carpet.
As for Gisele?s dress? she wore Stella McCartney. If this was what she wore to the Oscars or to Cannes, I would express some joy that Stella fell backwards into a design that sort of works. But since this is the Met Gala? Jesus, how boring. You?re going to show up to this year?s Met Gala in this boring-ass silver dress which looks like every other dress you?ve ever worn? And my God, I really HOPE and PRAY that Gisele talks more about how natural she is again. I want to see her try to form those words through a face full of Botox. As for Lurch Brady, that haircut is awful.
Speaking of boring, Anna Wintour rarely applies the Met Gala theme to her own style. I guess she figures? hey, she?s organizing the event, she should get to wear whatever she wants. If I was in her position, I think I would at least attempt to wear the theme-designer though. Anna wore Chanel, like every other year.

If you were to survey immigrants in America, I wonder if Thanksgiving would be the most popular American holiday? Or would it be Fourth of July? Both holidays are pretty great ? one involves fireworks and cookouts and the other involves turkey and pecan pie. Yay, America! Let me have this, peeps. Let me have one moment where I can think ?America is great because of Thanksgiving? and not think about what it?s going to be like when President Trump is told he has to pardon two turkeys at this time next year. ?We?re not going to do that, those turkeys are rapists, they?re illegal, they need to apologize bigly. No pardon. You?re the pardon!? Where was I? Oh, yes. Immigrants and Thanksgiving. Gisele Bundchen is an immigrant and she sounds like she loves Thanksgiving, but she loves it mostly because she doesn?t have to cook the turkey. I guess Tom?s family cooks? Either that or they make their private chef cook on Thanksgiving. Some highlights from Gisele?s People interview:
Her Thanksgiving plans: ?I?m always home with my family, that?s what Thanksgiving?s about. We?re going to have it together, and it?s nice to have friends over, my sister-in-law, some friends, and the kids. It?s going to be a nice cozy night.?
She helps with the Thanksgiving cooking: ?I help with the cooking, but I could spend the whole day doing it because it?s so crazy. I help pick the stuff, because we have a garden. I help make nice salads and the kids participate, but I have no idea how to make a turkey. I have to be honest with you. I ask for help with that.?
Gisele has an apiary? ?Over the past few years, I have learned that bees are essential to the health of our ecosystem. I also learned they are sadly becoming more and more scarce. Our family decided to add a bee hive and harvest our own honey. It has been an incredible thing for our home. It is so intriguing to learn how hard the bees work to make the honey. I love that our kids are seeing and experiencing this first hand. We love to use the honey as a sweetener in some of our snacks.?
She says Benjamin is an animal-lover: ?It warms my heart to see how kind and gentle Benny treats all animals. He wouldn?t hurt a fly. He thinks all animals are his friends. He has a lot of empathy and a strong love for nature. Vivi is very connected to nature too. She loves the garden and watching the strawberries grow so she can pick them.?
She wants her kids to play outside, not watch TV: ?The kids spend a lot of their time outside; they love it. It doesn?t matter the weather, we are always finding things as a family to do in nature. Staying outside with no shoes or just connecting with nature are some of the most special memories I have with my kids. The kids play outside most days. I want them to use their imaginations as much as possible. I love that they get the opportunity to be creative and fantasize about different kinds of places and stories with their friends in our yard. We try to limit electronic time in our house, which at times can be challenging. I believe everything in moderation can work. My preference is for them to read, draw, play music or play outside instead of being in front of the TV.?

I was going to say something snotty about how it?s not really that difficult to cook a turkey, but if you?re cooking a whole turkey, plus the entire Thanksgiving meal, it is tricky to get all the timing done correctly. While it?s generally pretty easy to cook a simple, no-muss turkey, plenty of people screw it up (including me, so I?ll shut my mouth about Gisele). As for Gisele having a beehive or apiary? Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady?s two private chefs have been talking all year about Tom and Gisele?s rather extreme elimination diet. What disturbed me was that their joint diet is a permanent, ceaseless thing. It?s not the kind of thing that they do just for a month or two to get in shape. No. They never eat nightshades. They never eat anything with flour, sugar or dairy. They ever consume caffeine. Their diet is mostly ?raw? plus some lean protein. And that?s how they?re raising their kids too. So now Gisele has to brag that her kids are so into their raw, half-vegan diet that they weren?t even interested in their Halloween candy, and she had to give away their candy stash. Uh-huh.
Forget eating her kids? Halloween candy, Gisele Bndchen not only didn?t steal any of her children?s haul, but she gave it all away! The supermodel mom made an appearance at the grand opening of the Under Armour Boston Brand House in the Prudential Center on Wednesday evening, and explained that son Benjamin and daughter Vivian (who dressed as Mario and a pony, respectively) were so uninterested in their Halloween haul, they let their mom give it away.
?We don?t really have that a kind of sugar in our house,? Bndchen told PEOPLE. ?I let them try one (piece), but they really only had one bite and then they didn?t want it anymore. So I told them if they didn?t like it I was going to give it away to other kids and they actually let me give their candy away,? she added of her and Tom Brady?s kids.
But don?t feel bad for Bndchen?s kids; they still get to eat dessert every day.
?It?s a little different kind of sweets, so they?re not used to it,? said Bndchen. ?I said to them, ?You know, there are so many kids that don?t get candy and you guys got so many, some kids don?t even get one! And they?re like, ?Oh mom, okay you can give it to them if they don?t get any.??

That?s some high-level passive-aggressive mom guilt right there. Imagine being that little and your overzealous mother lets you taste one mini-Snickers and she watches you like a hawk the entire time the delicious chocolate, caramel and peanut concoction washes over your taste buds. ?It?s not very good, is it?? she prompts. ?No, mama,? you sigh. ?Good, I?m taking all of your candy away because there are so many kids who don?t even get that one piece of candy!
