Nicole Richie appears in the September issue of Domaine magazine to show off her backyard and love for dining outdoors, and the results are stunning. As you may have gathered from previous stories, I kind of adore Nicole and will defend her until the sun goes down (at which point, I’ll drink some boxed wine and change the subject) because I’m strangely proud of her for doing something with her life beyond being Paris Hilton’s sidekick. Like, as soon as Nicole had one major screwup — that 2006 DUI — she straightened up and got really got her act together. Now she’s a wife, a mother of two children, and a fairly successful designer of clothing and jewelry.
A lot of you have commented that you think Nicole’s current persona is all an act and that she’s still secretly a mess, or on drugs, or whatever. Plus, there are those pesky eating disorder rumors that have persisted ever since Nicole managed to lose some extra poundage years ago, and she never gained it back. I will admit that there are moments that I worry about Nicole looking a little too bony, but I do think that she is a very small-boned person by nature, and I also have a hunch that she likes to stay on the thin side because (much like Victoria Beckham) it’s a fashion industry thing. So the fact that Nicole has received a huge feature in an interior design magazine that talks about her passion for dining al fresco, well, it seems a little bit weird, but OMG, the photographs are lovely — especially if you like food pr0n, you should take a peek. Here are some tips from Nicole:
On how she decorated her backyard: “I hate the term bohemian. It was important for me to keep the color palette strong but not too overpowering. We’re all about having everything be really eclectic and relaxed.”
On the vibe: “My house has that summery look and feel all year round — luckily for me I live in L.A. and can get away with it.”
She loves throwing dinner parties: “You feel the love and thoughtfulness in the food.”
Her friends love it too: “I’m against assigned seating. I like people to come to my house and feel like they can do whatever they want. Our house is the one people come to, to hang.”

I don’t have a problem with anything she’s saying here, and Nicole’s tips aren’t really prescribed instructions in manner of Goop or Alba. While it seems a little bit Goopy for Nicole to be going in this direction in this magazine feature, at least Nicole has taste. I’d like to eat the food that is photographed and hang at her house. I’m not sure that Nicole actually eats this food, but that’s a lingering topic of discussion that won’t be settled anytime fast.
What I like most about this photo spread is that there are so many pictures of Nicole’s friends, but Paris Hilton is not pictured at all. You know Paris hates that, right? Paris would die to get back in Nicole’s good graces because Nicole is classy now, but Nic will have none of it.
Also, Nicole has no food on her plate in this picture. I see a few crumbs though, right?

Leaving with a bag full of goodies, Nicole Richie shopped at Curve clothing in New York City on Wednesday (August 7).
The fashion designer delighted in browsing racks of garments while wearing a white blouse and black leather pants with her hair pulled back tightly.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, the 31-year-old mother-of-two's popular web series, "#CandidlyNicole" showed off her acrobatic skills this week.
Paying a visit to Cirque School, Nicole explained, "As far as exercising I always like to try new things, but I?ve never been to Cirque school. I definitely feel like I?ll fit right in because I know that they have to be limber and that?s what my nickname was in college."

Sure to take plenty of photos for everyone to remember, Nicole Richie spent the day on the water with her family in St. Tropez on Friday (July 26).
The "Fashion Star" mentor showed off her beach bod in a gold bikini, as she and Harlow and Sparrow enjoyed frozen treats on the boat while daddy Joel Madden zipped by in a jet-ski.
While the world was chomping at the bit for royal baby news, the 31-year-old former reality star unveiled a baby of her own.
Available at Shopbob, the House of Harlow 1960 line features an all-black collection of five pieces total, with a couple having laser-etched designs.

Taking time off from her family vacation for a girls' day out, Nicole Richie headed to Club 55 with her gal pals in Saint-Tropez, France on Wednesday (July 24).
Looking simply gorgeous, the fashion designer wore a short orange sleeveless dress as she walked along in bare feet.
Sharing her vacay photos on Instagram, the 31-year-old"Fashion Star" can be seen in various bikinis as she spends time with her two young children Harlow and Sparrow, her husband Joel Madden, and friends.
While Nicole is living it up in Europe, fans at home can get their dose of hilarity by checking out her web series, #Candidly Nicole, on AOL, where the debut episode has one million views in its first week.

Jetting off for a vacation while the kids are on a break from school, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden took the family to St. Tropez, France on Monday (July 22).
The "Fashion Star" mentor looked cute in a black tank top, light pants, and a scarf tied around her neck as she held Sparrow on her hip and Harlow's hand. Nearby, the Good Charlotte singer was in vacay mode in a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and a light fedora.
In addition to her TV appearances and fashion designing, the 31-year-old working mama also creates her own hilarious web series called "#Candidly Nicole."
Last week's episode featured Ms. Richie and her gal pal Erin who she takes under her wing to help her find a man. Offering some tough love, Nicole tells Erin, "I just think that you're not getting any younger. I mean, you're pretty, but you were prettier last year."

Continuing their Italian getaway, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden showed up in Sardinia over the weekend for more family fun.
Joined by their kids Harlow and Sparrow, the ?Fashion Star? babe and her ?Anthem? singer husband took to the sea for some boating and jet skiing while working on their tans.
And while many Tinseltown families suffer from a lack of togetherness, it sounds like Nicole has a healthy relationship with her two children, especially given her sense of style.
Richie gushed, ?My son always comes up to me and gives me a hug if he thinks I look pretty. Their biggest compliment to me if I'm wearing anything with sequins on it, they tell me that I look like a princess.?

Taking care of a media obligation, Nicole Richie arrived on the West Hollywood set of "Extra" for a guest spot on Wednesday (July 10).
Always hip to the latest styles, the "Simple Life" alum donned black and white striped pants and a printed top as she chatted with host Mario Lopez prior to her appearance.
Gearing up pre-interview, the mother of two tweeted "I think I'll spend my afternoon Cabbage Patchin' with Mario Lopez."
On Tuesday, Nicole dropped another hilarious episode of web series "Candidly Nicole," this time musing on her sleep issues and lack of naps.
?I don?t really nap, I don?t really sleep anywhere else. Mainly just my house and frat houses,? she said. "If you say it?s okay then I?ll take a little disco nap, I will demand it.?

With such a busy schedule that includes motherly duties and career pursuits, it?s no wonder Nicole Richie feels so tired all the time.
And in the new episode of ?#CandidlyNicole,? the ?Fashion Star? hottie visits a sleep doctor to find out if there?s anything wrong with her slumber patterns.
Nicole explains, ?I love to sleep. Like, I like to sleep so much that I wake up exhausted from sleeping so hard.?
?I?m having sleep issues in my mind because I?m just always tired. I just basically want to find out if I have a problem. Am I just in love with sleep, or do I have a sleep problem??
After a brief sleep study, Nicole?s doc recommends that she ?take a nap every day at 2pm.?

The internet has been a better place ever since Nicole Richie launched her #CandidlyNicole series, and the ?Simple Life? babe got uber practical with her 10th installment.
Given that everyone takes self-portraits all the time, Richie gave a ?Selfie: How To? instructional clip complete with pro photographer Andrew MacPherson.
Kicking things off, Richie told her guy pal/hairstylist Andy LeCompte, ?You can?t be straight and get into a picture with a bunch of gay guys and think you?re gonna shine. It?s not happening.?
And during her chat with MacPherson, Nicole discussed photo lighting techniques- ?Everything is better in the dark. That?s why people bone after clubs.?

This time around, the ?Fashion Star? babe heads over to Millennium Dance Studio where she meets up with her buddy Jeri Slaughter who shows her some new moves.
Nicole explains, ?I just loved me some Janet [Jackson], you guys? Paula Abdul, but I?m a little too street for Paula Abdul.?
?I?m here today at a dance studio with my friend Jeri who is an incredible choreographer and dancer. One hundred percent, all I wanted to be growing up was a backup dancer. I don?t wanna sing and have the focus be on me. I just want to be out there just groovin? for two hours.?
