Remember when I said Britney Spears looked a little thicker in those pictures of her opening show in Vegas? Turns out her wardrobe agreed with me because during her Saturday show, her outfit quit on her altogether. The zipper on her dress took its little hat and briefcase and went home.
She should look at some stronger material to hold that dress together. Maybe adamantium.

Britney Spears made her big debut in Las Vegas on Friday, and these are some photos from her debut. This was the first show of her ?Las Vegas residency? which? I mean, we need to think of a better way to talk about this, right? ?Residency? implies some sort of super-professionalism, like a doctor?s residency or a world-renowned expert in some sort of amazing field talking a ?residency? as a professor at some sleepy liberal arts college. What Britney is doing in Las Vegas is not a residency. It?s just a naked money grab by Jamie Spears and Britney?s management.
Surprisingly enough, even though these photos are sort of painful, her ?Piece of Me? residency seems to be getting overwhelmingly positive reviews thus far. Apparently, the show lasts 90 minutes and 21 songs and she manages to make a 7000-seat venue feel somewhat intimate. The Daily Beast has a run-down of the night and the reviews here ? critics note that the production value is pretty good, there are lots of costume changes and pyrotechnics and lithe backup dancers. Britney also made sure to include all of her big hits: ?Toxic,? “Baby One More Time,” “Oops!?I Did It Again,” “Stronger,” and “Circus” are all included. Also ? many noted that Britney was actually singing live to a backing track. SHOCK! During her tour a few years ago, many claimed she just put her CD on and ?danced? and that was the tour.
So? this is good, I guess. Bless her heart. I don?t wish her any harm, my only worry was that the people shelling out all that money for Britney were going to be disappointed. But it sounds like Britney is giving them their money?s worth.

Last week, Britney Spears made an appearance on Univision?s morning show, Despierta America!. And by that I mean I think the interview was pretaped, because they edited out parts of the translation from Spanish to English, so it looks like Britney is listening to questions in Spanish and answering in English. Anyway, this interview has gotten a lot of coverage because? Britney might be kind of racist? But it?s Britney, and it might be a combination of mis-translation and just Brit-Brit being Brit-Brit? No. I just watched the video. She?s actually pretty inappropriate.
The first ?that?s kind of racist!? moment comes when Britney is asked about living in LA and her comfort with Latin culture in LA and she?s asked to name her favorite part of Latin culture. Britney says: ?I think it?s very sexy. I’ve always loved Latinos. They make me think of a bad-boy type that your father wouldn’t let you go out with.? Inappropriate race-based stereotype or ?that?s so racist??
Then the dude asks Britney who is her perfect man and Britney adopts a fast Italian-sounding accent to say ?Just talk like you!? Does she think this dude is Italian? Why is she talking like Chef Boyardee? WHAT IS HAPPENING?! But the worst part ? seriously, this is the worst part ? comes at the 1:57 mark when Britney is asked if she speaks Spanish and she does a quick moment of absolute gibberish and then laughs. Oh, Brit-Brit. NO.
So, is Britney racist or is she just? not quite prepared to do Spanish-language interviews? While I think Britney could use some racial sensitivity lessons (and then some), I?m also sort of worried that Britney?s management is going to use this interview disaster as an excuse to withhold her from other media outlets. When Britney goes off-message, it?s usually cause for consternation, but Jamie Spears and Britney?s manager are really going to have to put out some fires with this one.

Britney Spears covers the January issue of InStyle Mag. I like the cover. It reminds me of Brit-Brit circa 2002, just when the wheels were coming off but no one knew how bad it would eventually get, and Britney still looked like a pert teenager. Yes, I?m sure there?s some Photoshop magic, but I also think Britney is doing a lot better these days. My theory? They?ve finally worked out the kinks with her meds. She just seems more cognizant and ?present?. Here are some highlights from the InStyle interview:
She?s had some minor plastic surgery: “A doctor I see, Dr. Kanodia, does fun stuff to me sometimes?I’ve had lip injections before. He has this peptide-based face-care product; it’s green and slimy, and you mix it together and put it on your face. It does wonders. You leave it on overnight. Can you tell I love skin care?”
Fashion: “When I was younger, I cared a lot more about what I wore. But the older you get, the more you think about what’s easy and comfortable. I do like to look good when I go to events, and I like to dress up. That’s for the show of it all!” she says. “When I perform, that’s the time I know what people expect from me?to have the glitz and the glam and go all out. I understand that. But in my everyday life, I’m more low-key.”
Body insecurities: ?I think it’s important to look good and feel good about yourself, but I go both ways on it. I think it’s cruel how the world puts so much emphasis on our looks.”
Defending Kim Kardashian: “I see Kim and what she went through when she was pregnant?the tabloids were so mean to her because she was big. At one point in the show she was upset and said something like, ‘I would be lying if I said that the criticism from the paparazzi while I’ve been pregnant hasn’t taken a toll on me.’ And I was like, ‘Bless her heart,’ because I remember that time. First of all, you are already emotional, and then the paparazzi are taking pictures of you pregnant. That should be the time when your body is the most treasured. I loved being pregnant for so many reasons, not to mention the sex is awesome then. But in this business you make a deal with the devil. I’ve learned you kind of have to go with it. What I do calls for me to look good. People expect that. I kind of take it as my job.”
Wanting a baby girl in the next five years: “I would like to be busy the first couple of years, but then I would really like to have another baby, a girl. I think she would be like a mini-me. I think it?s going to be crazy. I?m not going to feel as alone in the world anymore. I?m going to feel like I have a second person, like, that?s me.”
Mom questions: “As a mom, you have all these situations you go through, and you?re like, ‘What is going on? Is this normal? Is this a phase? Or what is this?’ and then you feel silly for asking questions because you think, I?m a mom, I?m supposed to know these things, but you don?t. You?re human. To be honest, I wish I had more mom friends.”

I wish she had more mom friends too. Why doesn?t she? Why don?t the moms of Jaden and Sean?s classmates befriend Britney? I would want to befriend Britney. I think it would difficult to be her friend and NOT want to take care of her a little bit, though. But maybe that?s what she wants too ? she wants to have some mom friends who will take care of her and look after her a little bit. It?s not the worst thing.
Brit-Brit also has a new interview with The Telegraph, which you can read here? I?m skimming to see if there?s anything interesting? Britney talks a lot about her Vegas show and how much she?s been rehearsing (side-eye) and she actually says these words: ?I need to rehearse more now than I did before. I feel I?m more of a perfectionist these days.? O RLY? Her mom is back in the picture too, which I didn?t know. I thought it was mainly Jamie Spears looking after Britney and Britney?s career these days, but Lynne Spears seems to be involved with ?handling? Britney, just like in the good old days. I?m not sure how I feel about that. Britney also talks about ?heartbreak? after she and Jason Trawick split ? but it?s kind of vague and I do sort of wonder if she really loved him that much or if the relationship was just a matter of convenience.

Her new album Britney Jean is climbing up the charts and now Britney Spears soaks up the spotlight on the cover of InStyle magazine's January 2014 issue.
While donning designer duds from Helmut Lang and Jason Wu for the Michelangelo Di Battista-shot spread, the 32-year-old singer opens up about her body image and reveals details about her Las Vegas residency.

On her body:
"I think it's important to look good and feel good about yourself, but I go both ways on it. I think it's cruel how the world puts so much emphasis on our looks. I was just watching 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians,' and I see Kim and what she went through when she was pregnant - the tabloids were so mean to her because she was big. On her Las Vegas rehearsals:
"The physical demands are tremendous, I'm rehearsing at least three or fours a day, sometimes even five. My body yesterday- I just felt so bad, I had to get two massages in one day! When I was younger, I wasn't as likely to rehearse as hard as I do now. I'm harder on myself these days. Before, I would practice two times, and I'm done. Nowadays I'm very critical of myself."
On her Hollywood tip:
"My advice for the next generation of stars? Don't care too much about what other people think. What matters is your own point of view."

Here are some photos of Britney Spears in Las Vegas earlier this week. She made an appearance at Planet Hollywood to promote her new album, Britney Jean, and to do some advanced publicity for her ?residency? at the resort beginning December 27. I have mixed feelings about this Vegas thing coming through? on one side, I do think she?ll enjoy being in one place and the money is always great. On the other side, I kind of feel for the fans who are going to go see her ? will the experience be worth it? When she was touring, everyone talked about her lip syncing and her ?off? dance cues. So? it could be a real mess. For the fans.
Speaking of disappointments, it seems like Britney Jean (the album) is not winning critical praise. Of course, it?s not like she?s making the album for the critics, but Britney?s father/conservator and her manager are still shielding her from the criticism:
She?s going to have to ?Work Bitch? to find out what the reviewers are saying! RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that Britney Spears ? on the verge of commencing her residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas ? is being kept in the dark about negative reviews of her latest album, titled Britney Jean.
?Britney?s manager, Larry Rudolph, and father, Jamie, won?t allow her to see any of the bad reviews,? a source close to the situation said, noting the pair remain conservators of Spears? estate and manage both her financial affairs and daily life.
?Britney doesn?t even have access to the internet and lives in a bubble! Her team will allow her to believe that the album is being well received. No-one wants to upset Britney. If she were to read anything negative, it could send her into a bad tailspin and both Larry and Jamie know that can?t happen with her upcoming shows in Vegas about to launch.?
Reviews for Britney Jean have been less than glowing: ABC News music reviewer Allan Raible gave the album a mere two stars, declaring: ?I can?t quite recommend Britney Jean. It?s a conflicted record with too many flaws to be considered even good on the whole, but it does show some promise. Britney Spears is still very much a pop confection, but those repeated lines in ?Perfume? ultimately almost save the day. For one fleeting moment, she had me smiling.?
Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune called it a ?skimpy 36 minute album,? which relies on T.I. and Spears younger sister Jamie Lynn to ?lighten her workload.? ? while the Boston Globe charged, ?Nowhere does ?Britney Jean? sound like Britney Spears.?
There is some consolation, however: The album is currently number one on iTunes ? so clearly the fans are liking it!

Ha, the album is only 36 minutes long?! OMG. That?s hilarious. As for the critics? I do wonder what people expect from her? Do you go into a Britney Spears album thinking ?this is going to be solid work from start to finish?? No. Of course not. Britney has always been about the singles and producing (admittedly great) dance and pop tracks.

That final cut of “Work Bitch” that you saw? It didn’t include everything that was shot. Richie Nuzzolese, one of the shirtless guys in the video, tells TMZ, “What’s out in the video is only like half of what went down.” He went on that it was “like an orgy… very sexually oriented.”
Richie describes the scene as involving 15 super hot chicks which was so intense, “it wasn’t even like acting.”
This gels with Britney’s earlier statement where she said she was pushed too far sexually and cut out a bunch of scenes that were too explicit for her.
And the video is better for it. Who wants to see a massive orgy-like scene when you could just watch Britney Spears wiggle around in a bra? “Not I,” said the kid hanging by his underwear from his locker.

Last week, Britney Spears said some words during a Twitter Q&A. It?s been happening more and more lately ? Britney?s handlers usually only allow her to answer pre-scripted questions, if that. A few years ago, ?Britney? would only do interviews via email, so her publicist could just save everyone the hassle and answer everything in ?Britney?s voice?. I guess the real Brit-Brit was actually doing her Twitter Q&A? Either that or somebody?s about to get fired. Anyway, Britney was asked about her favorite book, and she tweeted: ?Anything by Max Lucado.? You can see Lucado?s Wiki here ? he?s a Texas preacher who has written dozens of books about Jesus, angels, etc. He?s also a big-time fundamentalist who has repeatedly compared gay marriage to incest, bigamy, and all of that stuff. He?s rabidly anti-gay rights (and anti-gay in general, I suspect). So? it?s a big deal? Yes. Because Britney went off-message!
Popped tart Britney Spears is hiding a secret that may trigger backlash from her gay fans. The ENQUIRER has discovered the singer, 31, opposes gay marriage and sources say her management team is desperate to keep her views under wraps despite a recent slip-up.
?Britney has worked with and danced with a LOT of gays over the years,? a close source told The ENQUIRER.
?She?s never been homophobic but she doesn?t support gay marriage because the Bible is against it.?
The ?Toxic? thrush leaked her potentially career-threatening opinion during a Twitter Q&A promo-ing her new LP ?Britney Jean?.
Asked about her favorite author, Brit named Max Lucado, a controversial San Antonio, Texas-based preacher who penned a 2004 article claiming that homosexuality could lead to ?legalized incest.?
Now Britney?s handlers are worried that her off-the-cuff comment will ignite a bomb in the gay community.
?When Britney spouted off about Lucado being her favorite author, I doubt that she even knew about his opposition to gay marriage,? the source noted. ?She just shot off her mouth. Now she?s stunned that her remarks have everyone so worried. Her handlers have always promoted her to the gay audience, and they?re scrambling to do damage control.?
The source cites Britney?s upbringing in the Baptist church as the reason for her opposition to gay nups.
?Britney grew up singing in the church and attends the local Baptist church when she?s home in Louisiana,? explained the source. ?She says the Bible bans gay marriage and she follows that teaching.?
But Britney?s savvy enough to realize gays are important to her success and has been told in no uncertain terms that her opposition to gay marriage could short-circuit her career, said the source.
?Her handles know what?s good for business,? added the source. ?And Britney will never talk about her disapproval of gay marriage in public.?

?She says the Bible bans gay marriage and she follows that teaching.? *headdesk* Just like some people believe that Jesus said sh-t about gay people too. He never did. This is just some Old Testament crap. Not that I doubt that some of this stuff gets twisted in Britney?s mind. That being said? I think if you sat down with Britney and asked her directly how she feels about gay people and her gay fans, you?d probably find that she?s pro-human rights and incredibly tolerant. Hopefully.
