We all remember when Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth got pulled over by the cops last week, and now there?s a new video of the conversation they had in the police car.
In the clip, the inebriated ?Sweet Home Alabama? babe tells the officer, ?My name is Reese Witherspoon, you are arresting me for obstruction of justice, it will be in the national news.?
And once Johnny Law throws her in the back of the cruiser, Toth begins to scold his wife- ?Why are you doing this? All you should have done was let me get arrested? Now you?ve turned it into national news.
With both feet planted firmly in denial, Witherspoon defends herself- ?He does not have jurisdiction over the ground that he speaks on.?
Reese has since apologized for her behavior and fully admitted her fault in the matter.

Yesterday, the dash cam footage from Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth’s drunken arrest made its way to TMZ. Reese told GMA earlier in the day that she was “saying all kinds of crazy things” which she wasn’t wrong about. In the video, you can see Reese try to flex her celebrity muscle and get really patriotic.
She starts off with a little threat that she’s a big shot saying celebrity, “You’re about to find out who I am!” after the arresting officer admits he has no idea who she was. She then moves onto her cursory knowledge of the law. Reese ends up being cuffed anyway and channels Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan, “I’m an American citizen. I’m allowed to stand on American ground.” At one point, Reese even claims to be pregnant and says she needs to pee.
If you’re like me, you fall in love with Reese all over again after this. She basically acts like the character she played inLegally Blonde. Reese was one step away from pulling out an American flag and waving it in front of the officer’s face and shouting, “You can’t arrest me. I’m Reese Witherspoon. I’M AN AMERICAN! ‘MURICA!”
The best part, of course, is Jim Toth standing there silent and finally saying to the officer, after he cuffed Reese and put her in the car, “I’m sorry, I had nothing to do with that!”
“Sooo embarrassing. Don’t you hate it when your wife does that? Hey, why don’t you let me off with a warning and let me take her home.”

Reese Witherspoon gave her first post-arrest exclusive interview to Good Morning America today. So I guess we now know what path Reese is taking (which I laid out earlier this week): Reese is going to try to ?come back? from her arrest immediately, she?s not going to wait a few months. This will probably be the start of Reese?s apology tour. Sort of. The real start was her public statement just after her arrest became public, and continued through last week with some strategic leaks to People Magazine. Now she?s got this GMA interview, and I would imagine there?s a People Magazine cover next week maybe. Or maybe Us Weekly, but probably People. Anyway, here?s Reese?s GMA interview, I?ll have quotes on the other side:

Looking contrite, humbled and wiser for what happened, Reese Witherspoon addressed her arrest two weeks ago at the top of her interview with Good Morning America on Wednesday ? calling it “one of those nights.”
“We went out to a restaurant in Atlanta, and we had one too many glasses of wine,” the Oscar winner and mother of three, 34, said, referring to herself and her husband, agent Jim Toth. After their car, which Toth was driving, was stopped, he was charged with DUI, and she with disorderly conduct.
“We thought we were fine to drive,” she said, “and we were absolutely not, and we are so sorry and just so embarrassed.” She added, “We know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”
Blaming “poor judgment” for not simply calling a cab, Witherspoon said, “We made a mistake, and it was something that will absolutely never happen again.”
The police report noted that Witherspoon did not follow the officer’s orders and she got out of the car, and spoke in abusive language to him.
“I was so disrespectful to him,” the actress acknowledged on GMA. “I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It’s just unacceptable.” (Adding a note of levity, she also said, “I played a lawyer in a movie so many times I think I am a lawyer. And clearly I’m not a lawyer, because I got arrested.”)
She explained, “I have no idea what I was saying. That night I saw him arresting my husband, and I panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things. I said I was pregnant.” The actress flashed a look of amazement, then said, “I’m not pregnant. I said crazy things. I had no idea what I was talking about.”
Telling her older children about the very public incident, she said, was “the hardest part about it. When you make a mistake, you take responsibility, and we are taking responsibility, and we are doing everything within our power to make it right.”
Among the biggest lessons she learned, she said: “When a police officer tells you to stay in a car, you stay in a car.”

Well, what do you think? I think she?s got the best talking points and argument she (and her PR team) could come up with. How many times did she say ?panic? and ?I don?t know?? She accepted responsibility, she talked about learning her lessons, she acknowledged that there?s no excuse. I came out of this thinking that she might have been blackout-drunk though, especially when she talks about not knowing what she was saying. No offense, but she?s pretty long in the tooth to be getting THAT drunk at what seems like just a night out in Georgia. Anyway, is she forgiven yet? This interview will help, I think.

In the midst of her arrest for disorderly conduct last month, Reese Witherspoon went off the handle after seeing her husband Jim Toth in handcuffs.
The ?Legally Blonde? actress and her hubby were pulled over in a suburb of Atlanta, GA for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the chain of events, Reese yelled at the arresting officer, saying, ?Do you know my name?? and ?You?re about to find out who I am,? adding that she was pregnant.
On ?Good Morning America? this morning, Reese recalled the night in her first public interview since that night. ?I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I told him I was pregnant. I?m not pregnant. I said all kinds of crazy things.?
?It?s just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed,? Witherspoon added. ?I think we made a mistake and it was something that will absolutely never happen again.?
After the couple was pulled over, Toth allegedly appeared intoxicated and smelled like alcohol. He performed a sobriety test and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain the lane.
?We went out to dinner in Atlanta and we had one too many glasses of wine,? the 37-year-old old explained. ?We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. We know better and we shouldn?t have done that.?

Back to work after her arrest for disorderly conduct, Reese Witherspoon was busy on the set of ?The Good Lie? on Monday (April 29) in Atlanta.
Rocking a denim skirt paired with a tan leather jacket and knee-high boots, the ?Water for Elephants? actress was all business as she filmed scenes for the drama.
The story of a Sudanese refugee who is taken in by a straight-talking American woman in the United States also stars Corey Stoll and Sarah Baker.
Directed by Philippe Falardeau, ?The Good Lie? is slated to hit theaters in December. Check back with GossipCenter for the release date when it becomes available.

As I discussed in today?s earlier Reese Witherspoon post, the whole ?how will Reese comeback from her drunken arrest and pulling the ?Do you know who I am?? card?? is still very much in the air. Reese is either going to put herself out there immediately to damage control for her image, or she?s going to wait until the kerfuffle dies down a bit and then she?ll launch some kind of comeback. Part of it might be out of her control though ? Reese is supposed to be promoting her new film, Mud, right now. She canceled a bunch of TV appearances last week, but she wasn?t able to pull this magazine interview with Red. Thankfully, she doesn?t say anything bad and she doesn?t talk about getting her drink on. Some highlights:
Giving birth to Tennessee made her mind go loopy: ?Ever since I had the baby, I can?t remember anything. Serious, this child stole my brain. I?m losing friendships over forgetting to get back to people. But you can?t keep up with everything. I?ve got a 13-year-old, a nine-year-old and a baby. It?s like CNN ticker tape running through my mind at all times [puts on robotic voice]: ?Where is Ava? She?s okay. Good. Where is Deacon? He?s okay. Good. Where is Tennessee? Is he okay? Yes. Great. Back to Ava…? It doesn?t stop.?
The gender pay gap: ?Even now, in America, a woman makes 87 cents to every dollar a man makes. If you?re a black woman, you make 75 cents. You?re a latin woman, it?s 67 cents. And this is doing the same job. There is enormous inequality in pay and inequality in the workplace to this day.?
She displays her Oscar now: ?Because Lord knows every day is not a success, every year is not a success. You have to celebrate the good.?
Her business sense: “I feel like I know what I’m doing now”
Her girl-next-door personality: “People definitely hug me a lot, and hand me their babies. But it’s better than people throwing stuff at me, right?” she jokes. “I’m always met with smiles.”
She friends with Drew Barrymore & Cameron Diaz: “They’re just as charismatic and fun as you would imagine. It’s nice to hang with Drew because we both just had babies and we can support each other,” she says of Barrymore, 37, who welcomed daughter Olive last fall. “And Cameron is such a funny, bright gal. She’s an incredibly sharp business-minded woman, but she disguises that side of herself. It’s her secret alter ego.”
Female friendships: “I don’t know what I would have done so many times in my life if I hadn’t had my girlfriends. They have literally gotten me up out of bed, taken my clothes off, put me in the shower, dressed me, said, ‘Hey, you can do this,’ put my high heels on and pushed me out the door!”

You know what I?d like to see? I?d like part of Reese?s ?comeback/apology tour? to involve not spending any more time with Chelsea Handler. I was thinking about this last week, as Chelsea Handler defended Reese?s arrest by saying it was ?no big deal? ? what would Chelsea have said if it was Angelina Jolie who got arrested? Chelsea would have thrown a parade. The tabloids would have thrown a parade. There would have been wall-to-wall coverage of Angelina being a terrible person and a terrible mother. So why does Reese get such special treatment? How does she get defended by Chelsea?

Before her run in with the law earlier this month, Reese Witherspoon took a moment to grace the June 2013 cover of Red Magazine.
After enjoying some time by the pool with celeb photographer Simon Carter, the "Sweet Home Alabama" hottie chatted about life after giving birth to Tennessee and how her friends keep her sane.

On her post-pregnancy life:
"Ever since I had the baby, I can't remember anything. Seriously this child stole my brain. I'm sure I'm losing friendships over forgetting to get back to people. But you can't keep up with everything. I've got a 13-year-old, a nine-year-old and a baby. It's like CNN ticker tape running through my mind at all times."
On getting by with help from her gal pals:
"Oh my gosh, I don't know what I would have done so many times in my life if I hadn't had my girlfriends. They have literally gotten me up out of bed, taken my clothes off, put me in the shower, dressed me, and said, 'Hey, you can do this,' put my high heels on and pushed me out the door! But you do have to work at friendships as much as you would any relationship. So, even when I'm really busy, we always manage to find each other on Saturday nights for a drink."
On her women empowerment philosophy:
"As women, we shrug and smile and say, 'Oh... me?' because it makes it socially acceptable for us to be successful. But there is a balance between being an arrogant jerk and being someone who is proud of their accomplishments. We need to let successful women show off and support them. Because men don't spend anytime putting themselves down. They don't waste their breath. You have to be the best version of yourself and, if that means you have to be a bit self-promoting, then it's okay. It really is. Because who's going to believe in you more than yourself? Other than, maybe, your mother."
On her Pinterest obsession:
"My husband says, 'Are you buying those things?' and I'm like, "No, I'm just putting pictures of them on my electronic pinboard.' Then I get to organize them: So this is my dream kitchen, these are my favorite hand bags, these are hotels I want to visit, jewelry I really need to by... I have a whole board of monogrammed accessories, I like to my name on everything."

Here are some new photos of Reese Witherspoon at LAX yesterday. According to TMZ, she was catching a flight back to Atlanta. Which is weird because during the media flurry last week, someone said that Reese had finished filming her small, independent film in Georgia. Maybe there are some quick reshoots? Or maybe she?s going back to Atlanta to meet with a lawyer in town and figure out a quick way to resolve her disorderly conduct charge. Is that the kind of thing where you can immediately work out some kind of plea deal? What would it entail? A fine and some community service?
Anyway, I don?t have much to say about her right now because there aren?t many stories about her at this point. I was surprised by the lack of Reese stories in last week?s tabloids ? some of the lower tier tabloids had stories about her, of course, but she didn?t make any of the covers. Maybe she?s negotiating a People Magazine cover for this week, though? That might be smart. Or maybe she?ll take a different strategy: keep her head down for a month, then revisit the controversy with one big interview (to People, maybe) and a new look or something. I don?t know.
I actually don?t have strong feelings about what her media strategy should be at this point. My guess is that she?s going to talk about it sooner rather than later. Look at this outfit ? matchy-matchy hot Pink scarf and flats? An accessible mom-tote? Yes. Reese wants you to love her again. She is one of you! She?s just a mom! A mom who had a little too much to drink. She only played the ?Do you know who I am?? card because she was so concerned for her poor husband!!
Update: Thanks to Leah for pointing out that Reese isn’t wearing her wedding ring! Well, it looks like Jim Toth is really going to take the fall for everything, right? I’m expecting his announcement that he’s entering rehab momentarily.

I really like all of the discussion about how Reese Witherspoon can attempt to ?come back? from her arrest and image crisis disaster. LaineyGossip suggested that Reese would be smart to give People Magazine a series of exclusives to reinforce her ?down-home church-going soccer mom? image, and I?m sure those are coming. I think Reese?s damage control has already begun as soon as a ?source? told People (on Monday afternoon) that Jim Toth might end up in rehab. But what?s missing from the discussion is a first-hand account (not just the police report) of just HOW drunk and rednecky Reese was during her debauched Georgia night. Thankfully, People Magazine is also accepting stories from the Atlanta police:
It’s certainly not from a red carpet. Still, Reese Witherspoon’s booking photo with her eyes cast down has to be among the more unusual celebrity mugshots.
“She was wobbly,” explains a police source within the Atlanta Department of Corrections. “She didn’t need help walking, but she wasn’t at a point where we could get a really clear picture.”
The actress and husband Jim Toth were arrested early Friday morning after he was pulled over under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Atlanta. In her apology for her behavior, she said she “clearly had one drink too many.”
According to the source, police took more than one photograph and chose the best one.
“On another picture, she sort of bent down at the waist and we got the top of her head,” says the source. “She wasn’t being difficult or rude, but her motor skills weren’t what they needed to be.”
The unorthodox picture has the Atlanta police and legal communities talking ? and wondering if Witherspoon got preferential treatment.
“You can’t look down in the photograph,” says Atlanta criminal defense attorney Peter Odom. “The whole point of a mugshot is for identification purposes. To my knowledge, there is no exception to this rule. When someone is in custody, there isn’t a lot of personal space. They will grab your head and move it into the right position to get the right mugshot. But in this case, protocol was definitely not followed.”
The charges against Witherspoon were minor, says the source, so there was no need to force the issue and make the star stare dead ahead.
“This isn’t a big case and there’s not much more investigation that has to be done,” says the source, “so getting a clear picture of the suspect looking at the camera wasn’t absolutely necessary.”

Am I the only one who finds this kind of story fascinating? Like, Reese is drunkenly slurring out ?Do you know who I am?!? and she?s so wasted she can?t even stand up for her mugshot? But I also agree that this isn?t a situation where she got ?preferential treatment?. It?s not like she killed someone (although her husband could have). She was just a drunk, mouthy redneck. I have a real question for all of you: is it possible this Reese Witherspoon situation is ripe for a conspiracy theory? So many of us love a good conspiracy theory, and it seems like we should at least briefly entertain the possibility that Reese?s drunk-redneck-bitch act is just that: an act. But for what purpose, to what end? Could it be that ?America?s Sweetheart? Reese wants to dirty up her image so that she?ll be in contention for different kinds of roles? She can?t just play an endless stream of ditzy blondes in romantic comedies, you know. So maybe she?s trying to dirty up her image. I?m not saying I believe that or anything, but it?s as legitimate a theory as some of the Twihard stuff, you know? Anyway, I was just thinking about that while I read this story of how Reese spent the days post-arrest: by hanging out with Chelsea Handler and Cameron Diaz, best known as The Drunk Bitches.
Reese Witherspoon needs her friends’ support more than ever. Two days after the actress was arrested for disorderly conduct in Atlanta, the Academy Award winner and her husband Jim Toth joined their A-list pals for drinks at New York City’s Greenwich Hotel Apr. 21. (Toth was also arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated; he took a field sobriety test and blew a .139, more than 17 times the legal limit.)
After briefly attending the Cinema Society screening of Mud (where she declined interviews), Witherspoon, 37, and Toth, 42, met up with Chelsea Handler, Cameron Diaz, Michael Keaton, Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann at the Greenwich Hotel, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. “Nobody was drunk — it was pretty tame,” a source says of the group, who sipped on San Pellegrino instead. “They all seemed really happy. There was no indication that there was anything wrong.”
Witherspoon and Toth “were cuddling” and looked “cute,” the source adds.
Later that evening, Witherspoon (via her rep) apologized for her behavior in Atlanta. “Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” she told Us Weekly in a statement. “It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

Yes, because if Cameron Diaz and Chelsea Handler are known for anything, it?s contemplative, quiet sobriety. I?m surprised some ?eyewitness? didn?t notice that some members of the party kept sneaking off to the lady?s room and came out sniffling. I?m just saying, if Reese was truly upset by her newly banged-up ?drunk redneck? image, she really shouldn?t be hanging out with Camy and Jennifer Aniston?s drunk attack dog. That?s not very sweetheart-y. But maybe that?s the point? See? Conspiracy theory.
Meanwhile, People Magazine got an ?exclusive? from some unnamed source close to Reese?s husband Jim Toth. According to the source (who is probably just Toth), he “feels awful that he involved Reese in the situation? He made a bad decision and it certainly made things worse that he dragged her into it.” Jim apparently ?gets? that he has to ?pay the consequences?. His job as a CAA agent is being blamed for his sloppy-drunk ways, with the source claiming: ?Jim has always been a big social drinker. A lot of his job is being social. He’s out to lunch or dinner almost every day of the week, schmoozing clients and taking business meetings. [The arrest is] just going to make the two of them stop and pause, and think about maybe how much Jim’s drinking plays a role in their lives ? if it does or not.? Another source says that if Jim ends up going to rehab, ?no one would be surprised.? That is interesting.
