Shakira posted this photo on her Twitter page a few days ago – she got a haircut! A real one too, this isn?t just some wig she threw on and claimed was her new hair. Shakira has always worn her hair long, right? For as long as I can remember, she?s worn it past her shoulders, usually half-way down her back. So what does this new haircut mean? I think it makes her look older – it?s kind of a choppy mom-style haircut. I don?t hate it, and I?m glad she didn?t give herself big, thick bangs, although there is some layering in the front that could pass for bangs. I did something similar to my hair more than a decade ago – I?ve almost always worn it long, but for some reason, I was in a ?short hair phase? and I did it choppy and above the shoulders. It was fun for a week, but then I missed my long hair.
I had another thought about Shakira and her dramatic hair change (that apparently took six hours in the hair salon, according to reports): that girls chop off their hair after a breakup. So I wondered if Shakira was still solid with her boy, Gerard Pique. It turns out that Shakira went straight to Gerard?s Barcelona house right after the hair cut. So? no breakup. Maybe Gerard was the one who wanted a girlfriend with shorter hair?
Also – Fox News had a really interesting story about Shakira?s accent. Ever since she got with Gerard (a Spaniard), Shakira?s Columbian accent has been fading and she?s acquired a Spanish accent. Is this the Spanish equivalent of Madonna speaking with an English accent?

Sin City had a little extra sizzle last night as Shakira performed at the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Honors.
The ?Hips Don?t Lie? songstress looked beautiful in a pale blue dress a she took the stage at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Marc Anthony presented Shakira with a crystal plaque to commemorate her being named the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year for both her musical and charitable contributions over the course of her career.
Shakira gushed, ?I?ll carry this night with me always. It?s an honor that I am not sure I deserve, but you?ve made me very happy.?
The event featured Anthony as well as Shakira?s father William Mebarak, Venezuelan singer Franco De Vita, Mexican Rocker Alejandra Guzman, and salsa great Gilberto Santa Rosa.

Being immortalized in Tinseltown thanks to her successful music career, Shakira was honored with a star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Tuesday (November 8).
The "Hips Don't Lie" singer was all smiles as she watched her sidewalk marking be unveiled - which is the 2,454th star on the famed streetside locale.
FAs part of the festivities, Shakira was joined by City Councilman Eric Garcetti - who spoke to a crowd gathered in front of the W Hollywood Hotel.
The ceremony comes one day before Shakira is honored in Las Vegas as the Latin Grammy Person of the Year.

Enjoying the perks of superstardom, Shakira was spotted arriving in Puerto Rico on her private jet earlier today (October 14).
The ?Hips Don?t Lie? songstress looked cute and casual as she smiled for the shutterbugs as she deplaned and hopped into an airport van.
Earlier this month, Shakira was busy in the capitol city of Washington DC where she lobbied for improving academic excellence for Latino children.
She declared that our future ?depends on Hispanic kids? and emphatically requested that the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics take action.

Selected by the U.S. Commander-In-Chief for an important role in the lives of many, Shakira took part in the President's Advisory Commission of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics in Washington, D.C. earlier this week (October 6).
The Colombian singer took to the podium while being appointed to the scholarly-focused effort by President Barack Obama, telling the audience that she's "flattered" to have been approached for the duties and accepts with "great honor."
During her speech, the 34-year-old said, ?This is a tremendous honor for me. I am humbled that my philanthropic experience could be helpful or that my voice can be used to amplify the message and work of the President and this Commission."
Shakira added, ?As I have seen in my own Foundation work, the only road out of poverty is education. For a host of reasons, Latino young people in this country disproportionately drop out of school and far too few finish college. Closing this gap will not only determine the economic future and competitiveness of this nation, but can serve as a model for the world. I am grateful to have an opportunity to support such important work."

Gracing the main stage during the musical celebration's fifth day, Shakira was the closing act at the Rock in Rio music festival on Friday night (September 30).
The Colombian beauty brought her high-energy efforts to the forefront as she dazzled the Palco Mundo packed audience with songs such as "Estoy Aqui," "Nothing Else Matters," "Gypsy," "Whenever, Wherever," "Te Dejo Madrid," "Inevitable," "Loca" and "La Tortura".
Shakira's efforts followed another jam-packed lineup of performers, with other day five entertainers including Lenny Kravitz, Ivete Sangalo, Jota Quest and Marcelo D2.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old has denied claims that she had been booked to perform at a birthday celebration for the leader of the war-torn Russian republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.
Making it clear that she had no plans of partaking in such a gig, Shakira tweeted, ?Contrary to any misreporting, Shakira is not performing nor was she ever booked to perform a gig for the Chechen president or government."

Pushing forth with her visit to the Middle East, Shakira spent Tuesday afternoon (June 21) meeting with Israel's President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem.
The Colombian singer was joined by her footballer beau Gerard Pique as the pair shared warm embraces with the Israeli leader during a joint press conference.
During the course of the festivities, Shakira was also greeted by an Israeli child - who kindly offered a necklace as a welcoming gift to the "Rabiosa" hitmaker.
The event is all part of the 2011 Israeli Presidential Conference, which also includes speakers like Binyamin Netanyaho, Tony Blair, and Tzipi Livni.
