Shakira paid a visit to quake-hit Haiti while preparing her plans to develop a school in the devastated nation.The 33-year-old singer met around a hundred youngsters who were left homeless after the massive quake and have been forced to live in tents in the capital city of Port-au-Prince.Shortly after the disaster, the singer announced plans to team her Barefoot Foundation and the Architecture for Humanity charity to build a school in the region, which she hopes will mirror the success of an education facility she launched in her native Colombia.The institute will provide teaching, nutrition and counselling for kids in need.

Showing support by lending a helping hand, Shakira paid a visit to Haiti to discuss her plans of building a children?s school over the weekend.
It?s been three months since a massive earthquake destroyed the island, and the ?She Wolf? singer was spotted looking for a suitable site for the school which will focus on needy children.
"We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti's children can be useful to their societies tomorrow," Shakira said. "Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti."
The singer said she believes that providing education to the many displaced and orphaned Haitian children is a key part of the reconstruction efforts.

The “Hips Don’t Lie” songstress teamed up with the World Bank to launch The Early Childhood Initiative: An Investment for Life.
The Early Childhood Initiative is a $300 million program designed to expand development programs for young children in the Caribbean/Latin America.
Shakira told press, “If we want to build a better world, we have to give children the chance to improve their lives, no matter where they are born or how difficult their circumstances. By giving every child a fair start in life, we are improving our collective future.”

Shakira has announced that she will be building a school in Haiti to aid the country’s recovery.The 32-year-old star posted a statement on her website just days after she revealed she will be participating in the telethon Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief.The Caribbean country was devastated by the earthquake that has killed tens of thousands of people and left many homeless.The statement said that she will be setting up an initiative to build a new school through her Barefoot Foundation and it will work together with Architecture for Humanity and its NGO partners.Shakira said: “There is a great need for immediate aid in Haiti, but also for longer-term reconstruction.”For that reason, we are doing our small part to help Haiti rebuild and give the children affected by this disaster the chance to learn and thrive.”
