Kate Moss is getting into all sorts of trouble for saying that her motto is ?nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.? Critics are lambasting her, saying that she?s promoting eating disorders. That?s the same model that?s often quoted on a lot of pro-anorexia websites. And considering she was the face of the ?heroin chic? model movement in the 1990s, it?s bringing up a lot of old issues. Kate?s modeling agency has of course tried to amend her statement, but it doesn?t appear to be doing much good.
Kate Moss needs a new motto. After she told Women’s Wear Daily that she lived by the slogan, “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” the model, 35, has been attacked by eating disorder groups for her “dangerous” viewpoint.
“Comments like this make it even more difficult for young people struggling with an eating disorder,” said Mary George, a representative of a British eating disorder charity called Beat. “She probably doesn’t realize how dangerous such comments can be.”
In fact, that exact comment is a slogan posted on many Web sites that encourage girls not to eat and pushes those with anorexia or bulimia over the edge. Model Katie Green also considered her statement “shocking and irresponsible,” especially because Moss has a seven-year-old daughter, Lila Grace.
“Kate is a mother herself and how would parents with children suffering from eating disorders feel reading something like this?” said Green, who has been campaigning to stop the use of ultra-thin models in runway shows. “[Kate] should really have thought before she spoke like most of us do before giving interviews.”
Moss’ modeling agency, Storm, however, said her words were misconstrued.
“This was part of a longer answer Kate gave during a wider-ranging interview, which has unfortunately been taken out of context and completely misrepresented,” the agency said in a statement. “For the record, Kate does not support this as a lifestyle choice.”

In the video below, British psychotherapist Lucy Beresford talks more about why Kate?s motto is so dangerous. Importantly, she notes that the saying didn?t originate with Kate, and is thought to have been coined by Weight Watchers. I swear to God I remember Oprah saying it after she lost all that weight in the 80s and toted that wagon full of fat on her show?s stage. I?ve heard it for years - though with “thin” instead of “skinny,” which does make it sound less unhealthy. I think the original point of the motto was to say it to yourself when you?re an overweight person who?s battling cravings and over-eating desires. It wasn?t intended as a motto for skinny people to get even skinnier.
As Kaiser pointed out in her article about this, Kate?s follow up comment is very important. She says, ??Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.? That?s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.? So while Kate?s repeating the phrase ? and still saying it?s her motto, which is very dangerous ? she did also say that she can?t stick to it. It?s not a great motto for a skinny model to have, but it?s not surprising. And I absolutely see why it?s dangerous. I?m just trying to point out that there?s more to it, and others have said it as well.
Okay, I hope that?s the last time I ever have to defend Kate Moss.

Making the most of a mild Monday, Kate Moss was spotted out and about in London, England earlier today (November 16).
The British supermodel looked top-notch, as usual, sporting a black blazer with a striped top, black leggings, and black knee-high boots.
Miss Moss recently revealed that while she’s definitely a model at heart, she still enjoys her plethora of other business ventures.
“It’s fun for me. I still model, and I enjoy doing that, as well. Working on the creative process is really interesting for me because I do know what I like, so it’s fun for me to realize that it becomes part of you. It’s not just putting your name on something; it’s about being very involved in it.”

Kate Moss gave an interview to Women?s Wear Daily to promote her new perfume, ?Vintage? as well as her clothing line at Topshop. WWD notes that Kate is also developing a hair care line, and is looking to develop her own makeup line to go with her clothing and perfume line. Now, while I don?t hate Kate or anything, I really don?t agree with the hip fashion people who consider her the kind of groundbreaking style icon who always looks great and/or cool. Some of the stuff Kate wears is interesting, and I recognize that she definitely has a ?look?, but most of time she looks like what she is - a tired, strung-out, cokehead party girl, albeit a party girl who keeps her junk together a lot better than someone like Lindsay Lohan. Anyway, the interview is slightly interesting, because Kate rarely gives interviews, and because she?s a lot more self-deprecating than I was expecting. She claims one of her mottos is ?Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels? but she admits she doesn?t really adhere to it:
WWD: How do you define beauty?
Kate Moss: It sounds really corny, but I think that if you?re beautiful inside, it shows on the outside for sure. You can be a pretty face, but if you?re not a nice person, it just doesn?t work. I?m not traditionally a beauty, but apparently people think I?m all right. If you?re a nice person, it definitely helps.
WWD: Do you have a mentor?
KM: My close friends, probably. There are lots of women I look up to, but mentors are someone you talk to and not just admire. A lot of my friends that I trust are my mentors. They would say, ?Oh no, Kate, that?s not a good look.?
WWD: Do you have a motto?
KM: There are loads. There?s ?Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.? That?s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.
WWD: You?re a business woman as well as a fixture in front of the camera. What?s the secret to effective multitasking?
KM: I think women are really good at multitasking. Men just cannot do it. My boyfriend cannot talk on the phone and [answer] if I ask him a question or get dressed at the same time. I can do all of that?talk on the phone, answer a question, get dressed and put my makeup on all at the same time. Women just do, don?t they? I think it?s something to do with babies. When you have a child, you have to be able to multitask.
WWD: It?s been rumored that you?re keen to build a career in music. Is that true?
KM: No. I like to dabble. I?ve got lots of friends who are musicians, so if they ask me to do things, I?ll go and do it for a laugh. I don?t want to be a pop star or anything like that.
WWD: Whose style do you admire?
KM: Loulou de la Falaise, Amanda Harlech and Catherine Deneuve.
WWD: High maintenance or low?
KM: Definitely not [high maintenance].

Several years ago, back before Kate gave birth to her daughter and she was still the face of the waif trend, I read a defense of Kate?s body type in a men?s magazine. The guy who wrote the article acknowledged that Kate was too skinny for his tastes, but he still thought she was beautiful because she looked like a naturally slender, well-proportioned woman. Personally, I think Kate looks better after becoming a mother, because she?s ?filled-out? a bit more, and I can?t count all of her bones. I don?t have any doubt that Kate starved herself at various times (and the drugs probably helped too), but I like that she now acknowledges that she can?t even adhere to her own ?starve yourself to look good? motto.

Always up for a swanky night on the town with her man, Kate Moss and Jamie Hince were spotted leaving J Sheekey restaurant in London, England on Friday night (November 13).
The catwalk beauty was all decked out in a black dress topped with a fur jacket as she stumbled past paparazzi and loaded into the nearby car.
The sighting comes just as Miss Moss recently chatted with WWD, saying that she isn’t the traditional definition of beauty.
“It sounds really corny, but I think that if you’re beautiful inside, it shows on the outside for sure,” she tells.
Kate continues, “You can be a pretty face, but if you’re not a nice person it just doesn’t work. I’m not traditionally a beauty, but apparently people think I’m all right.”

Getting out and about for some fresh air, Kate Moss and Jamie Hince were spotted strolling through the Mayfair district of London, England earlier today (October 23).
The British supermodel and her rocker boyfriend looked a bit annoyed with the paparazzi as they made their way down the street, both bundled up due to the chilly weather.
And coming up on October 29th, Kate will be launching her Kate Moss Topshop Christmas 2009 collection, featuring an assortment of luxurious yet sophisticated oriental-inspired items.
Kate’s favorite part of the collection is the nightwear. She told press, “I love beautiful nightwear, it makes you feel great. I’ve collected millions of vintage slips, nighties, camis and bed jackets. Who doesn’t want fab nightwear for Christmas?”

Out for a few afternoon drinks, Kate Moss was spotted making her way home from a London pub earlier today (October 15).
The British supermodel looked a bit cranky as she strolled past the paparazzi, sporting a black leather jacket with a black top, jeans, and black ankle boots.
And though she’s best known for her modeling endeavors, it seems Kate was once fancied an actress, according to writer/director Richard Curtis.
According to Curtis’ wife Emma Freud, “Richard wrote a part for her in ‘Love Actually,’ but she said no, so it went to Claudia Schiffer.”

Still going strong as Paris Fashion Week continues, Kate Moss was spotted out to eat at L’Avenue restaurant earlier today (October 6).
Joined by boyfriend Jamie Hince, the British beauty looked to be in a bit of a hurry as she scurried past the paparazzi and on to the next big event.
Last night, Kate and Jamie enjoyed primo seats at the Yves Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2010 runway show, hobnobbing with industry bigwigs and fellow celebrities.
And Miss Moss wasn’t bashful about showing off her natural assets, as she donned a see-through sheer black top without a bra.

Today has been unbelievably boring, I know. I was actually starting to feel a little… bad about it. But then I remembered I had still had half a bottle of tequila under the driver’s seat of the Yugo. Problem solved! So shut up and enjoy Kate Moss‘ nipples, crybabies.

Getting an early start to the weekend, Kate Moss was spotted out at a local pub having lunch with Jamie Hince in London on Friday (October 2).
Wearing skinny leather trousers, the catwalk cutie is gearing up for a big night tomorrow, as she’s slated to sing at Simon Cowell’s star-studded 50th birthday party.
Reportedly planning on singing “Summertime” by Ella Fitzgerald, a source tells press, “Kate and Simon are great mates and he thought it would be hilarious to ask Kate to sing.”
The insider adds, “All the guests are expecting some real vocal divas to perform - not Kate Moss. Kate agreed straight away. She is a keen singer and is taking her role in proceedings extremely seriously. As well as getting a few tips off rocker boyfriend, Jamie Hince, she’s been practicing her scales and gargling with lemon and honey. She once read that this is what Mariah does ahead of each performance. Kate’s word perfect on her chosen track and has promised to lay off the booze before she sings.”
The birthday party source continues, “She doesn’t want her dulcet tones to be slurred in a fog of champagne. Obviously it’s not ideal that she’ll be followed by Mariah Carey -but Kate is confident she can hold her own. She knows no fear.”
