Back in the September issue of Vogue, Halle Berry used the platform of a cover interview in one of the biggest magazine issues of the year to spotlight her work with the Jenesse Center, a non-profit that helps abused and battered women who have left their abusive situations. Halle has been working with the Jenesse Center for a decade, and you can just tell that this is one of her great passions. Anyway, CNN continues to do their spotlight on ?CNN Heroes? and they decided to do a sit-down interview with Halle, to profile her work with the Jenesse Center, and why she was drawn to this work:
Halle Berry has been busy dazzling photogs on the red carpet recently, hamming it up for a new Farrelly Brothers comedy, and enjoying a new romance with Olivier Martinez — but she says that despite her glamorous adulthood, she’s still healing from the trauma she witnessed in her childhood home.
The Oscar winner, 44, opened up to CNN recently about what motivates her to work with an organization that supports women who escape violent homes.
Berry recalls being terrified that her violent dad, who physically abused her mom, would turn on her, adding, “I think I’ve spent my adult life dealing with the sense of low self-esteem that sort of implanted in me. Somehow I felt not worthy.” As incredible as that sounds coming from a highly paid, highly photogenic movie star, she explains, “Before I’m ‘Halle Berry,’ I’m little Halle….a little girl growing in this environment that damaged me…I’ve spent my adult life trying to really heal from that.”
Of her dedication to supporting others trying to escape domestic violence — including frequent volunteering at Jenesse Center, a Los Angeles shelter, and helping to renovate apartments for women leaving abusive relationships — she says, “I have a spot in my soul that understands the devastation that this causes a family.”

CB and I were just talking about this, and whether Halle comes across as ?authentic? when talking about the abuse in her past and how it has affected her as an adult. Personally, I have enormous respect for Halle?s work with the Jenesse Center, and I think it?s great that she?s turning her own troubled past into something positive for other women, and it?s obviously something she?s enormously passionate about. BUT - the chick is still really screwed up about men. Even Oprah has called it a day on trying to help Halle through her issues.

Spending some quality time with her adorable daughter, Halle Berry was spotted out in Beverly Hills, CA on Thursday (December 9).
The ?Catwoman? star looked cute in an all-black ensemble as she carried a grumpy Nahla into a private residence.
In other news, Ms Berry paid a visit to Jay Leno on the set of ?The Tonight Show? last night and let the audience in on her love for caramel and cheese popcorn from Garrett?s in Chicago.
Of the guitly pleasure, Halle revealed, ?I can polish off that in one movie, you have to take a caramel and a cheese together it's a mix - it's orgasmic.?

Bringing a dramatic end to what was a relaxing lunch together, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez had a run-in with the paparazzi at at Mirabelle Restaurant in Los Angeles on Friday (December 3).
Upon exiting the popular local eatery, the "Dark Tide" co-star couple decided to have words with a photographer who they thought was overstepping his boundaries.
Showing his machoism, Olivier walked around his car and got in the face of the photographer before proceeding to shove the shutterbug violently.
Yelling profanities as he hopped in the car, Martinez reportedly backed his car out of the property at a high rate of speed which caused the photographer to fall to the ground.
Insiders tell that the Los Angeles Police were called to the scene, with the belief that Olivier might just get into a bit of trouble for his aggressive driving.

She?s one of the world?s top film actresses, and now Halle Berry has her sights set on some stage work.
During the premiere of her new movie ?Frankie and Alice,? she told press she?s signed on to star in ?The Mountaintop? on Broadway.
As for her role in the film, Halle explained, ?This was definitely a challenge, but as an actor it?s really one of those challenges that you just relish.?
?It was a lot of work, you know, instead of creating one character it was creating three, but it was something that I desperately wanted to do.?

Here are new photos of Halle Berry at last night?s premiere of Frankie & Alice, that dumb-looking movie where Halle plays a chick with split personalities - on a be-afro?d cage dancer, the other a old Southern lady who wedding crashes. You can see the trailer here - it looks rough. Rough as in ?Halle could do so much better.? Anyway, last night Halle didn?t go for some goddess gown or simple strapless cocktail dress. Instead, she went for this Balmain monstrosity. It?s a brocade suit - and the fabric is super-shiny black and gold. This looks like a shower curtain from a 1970s blaxploitation film. Something nice: beyond the fabric, I really like the cut of the pants. You can tell that Halle actually put some thought into this hideous suit, and that she probably got it tailored.
Halle brought along her French lover too - Olivier Martinez walked the red carpet solo. They?ve been together since at least the end of August, which means they just hit their three month mark. They both look tired and happy - endless French sex can do that. Olivier looks kind of worn down, right? Halle must be a demanding lover.

Stepping out for her new movie, Halle Berry looked stunning as she arrived at the premiere of "Frankie and Alice" at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California on Tuesday night (November 30).
Opting to get glammed up in an intricately patterned black and gold jacket/pant ensemble, the Oscar winning actress joined director Geoffrey Sax while boosting interest in the drama which also stars Stellan Skarsgard, Phylicia Rashad and Chandra Wilson.
Aside from "Frankie & Alice," Miss Berry recently confirmed plans to take on a role in the upcoming "Cloud Atlas" project.
She told press, "I'm going to do a movie probably in the summer with the Wachowski's. It's not brothers anymore, but the Wachowski's. A really interesting movie. Sort of like what they did with The Matrix. They have another really amazing idea that's sort of gonna stretch our brains even further. And so I'm really excited about that and that's probably gonna be in the summer. And that's with Tom Hanks and Natalie Portman."

Taking to the streets of the Big Apple for a casual stroll, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez were spotted in New York City on Friday (November 19).
The ?Dark Tide? co-stars/real life lovers looked to happily in love as they sauntered passed the paparazzi hand-in-hand, both sporting some cool shades.
In a recent interview with OK! Magazine, when asked if Berry would like to see daughter Nahla become an actress, she responded, "You know, that's really up to her. That's years away. She's only two."
Although she split from Nahla?s father, Gabriel Aubry, back in April of this year, Halle admitted that she will always be close to the Canadian model.

Out promoting her new movie, Halle Berry attended a special screening of "Frankie & Alice" at in New York City on Wednesday night (November 17).
Decked out in a sexy white frock, the always-gorgeous Oscar-winning actress was all smiles as she joined up with director Geoffrey Sax at the Big Apple event.
As for the movie, "Frankie & Alice" is a drama which also stars Stellan Skarsgard, Phylicia Rashad and Chandra Wilson.
A synopsis via IMDB tells that the flick is "centered on a young woman with multiple personality disorder who struggles to remain her true self and not give in to her racist alter-personality."

The ?Catwoman? babe and her ?Unfaithful? hubby both sported leather coats as they walked arm-in-arm on the streets of the Big Apple.
After parting ways back in September, Halle?s ex (and daugthter Nahla?s father) Gabriel Aubry is happy for the new couple.
A friend of the male model told In Touch, ?Gabriel has given the couple his blessing. He likes Olivier, and is glad that Halle is happy.?
