Rihanna hosted yet another ?Diamond Ball? last night in New York. Rih?s Diamond Balls are fundraisers for her Clara Lionel Foundation, which raises money for schools, educational supplies and health care in developing countries. Rihanna is low-key about it, but she does a ton of great work in Barbados and in developing nations, and her foundation raises a lot of money with these Diamond Balls.
For last night?s fundraiser, Rihanna wore a Ralph & Russo mullet dress which I dislike. I?ll give her some credit – she went with a more conservative look, which is appropriate for the event. But this dress is just bad. I feel like Rihanna has gained some weight this year and she?s totally fine with that, but she doesn?t know how to dress herself when she?s slightly bigger? This Ralph & Russo gown makes her look a lot heavier than she actually is, I?m just sayin?. I also think she chose this gown as sort of a ?blank slate? look to feature her Chopard jewelry – Chopard sponsors Rihanna?s Diamond Balls, and she wore one necklace from her Rihanna Loves Chopard collection, and one necklace from Chopard?s High Jewelry Collection.
This year?s Diamond Ball had a good turn-out – Kendrick Lamar performed, after all – and this was the first big event for Beyonce and Jay-Z since the twins were born. Bey and Jay didn?t walk the red carpet, but they were photographed inside the event.

Last Thursday, Rihanna finally launched her long-awaited and much-anticipated beauty line, Fenty Beauty. Rihanna did a series of big, splashy events at New York Fashion Week to celebrate and promote the line, which actually didn?t need the added promotion because everyone is SO jazzed about it. Rihanna wore this yellow two-piece Oscar de la Renta gown to the launch. She looks amazing, right? I have to say this: 2017 Rihanna is possibly my favorite Rihanna. She is peaking right now.
Fenty Beauty is beauty for all women, of all colors, not just ?pale white women? to ?somewhat tan white women.? Rihanna not only recognized that there was a hole in the makeup market for a wide variety of skin colors, but she also recognized that women of all races need to know their undertones too. As she told Upworthy, during a press-availability at the launch:
“I was like, ‘Let me see something for a dark-skinned girl. Let me see something for a pale girl. Let me see someone in between.’ There’s so many different shades. There’s red undertones, there’s green undertones, there’s blue undertones, there’s Pink undertones, there’s yellow. You just never know, so you want people to appreciate the product and not feel like ‘Oh that’s cute but it only looks good on her.’”

Rihanna is selling the label online, and at Sephora in the US. The prices on this stuff seem? well, I wouldn?t spend that much on makeup, but then again, I spend next to nothing on makeup. From what I?ve seen of Kardashian-Jenner branded stuff, Fenty Beauty looks pretty affordable. Personally, I would much rather buy Rihanna?s stuff than Kardashian-Jenner stuff or even Goop-stuff.
At the launch, Rihanna was also asked about how she perceives her own beauty, and she was pretty real about it: ?I know if I?m in shape, out of shape, if I?ve got zits, if I?ve got dark circles. I?m not like, lying to myself, and I?m not feeling bad about that either. It is what it is. You got dark circles, I just wear more makeup.? I think Gwyneth just collapsed on a fainting couch.
This is my favorite part of this post, this ?street style? photo of Rihanna in New York on Friday. I have no idea what she?s wearing but I love that she put it on and thought, ?YAS!?

Here are some photos from the Paris premiere of Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets last night. All of the people who attended the London premiere two nights ago attended this one, including Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen and Dane DeHaan. Rihanna has been getting most of the attention at these premieres, even though her role is just supporting (Cara and Dane are the leads). I think Rih is fine with that – she seems to want the attention, which is why she?s been wearing a parade of WTF-gowns.
Rihanna wore Prada in Paris, having worn Giambattista Valli at the London and LA premieres. I?m grateful that this isn?t a maternity-esque ball gown-sack. I?m also grateful that this isn?t some kind of ballerina look. But is this Prada actually good? No. Not really. If it was on anyone else, it would look like a cheap showgirl costume. Because it?s on Rihanna, I?m obligated to give it one ?yaas queen? even with all of those feathers. Also: I like that Rihanna has no f–ks to give about putting on a little weight. Rihanna is not overweight or anything, but she?s gotten a bit thicker this year and she?s owning that sh-t. I love it.
As for Cara, she wore this Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress which I mistook for Burberry initially. It?s pretty. I would have liked to see Rihanna and Cara switch dresses, actually.

Rihanna has a lucrative Dior contract. She models and helps design (?) Dior eyewear. She?s usually rocking Dior sunglasses, but she isn?t one of those Dior ?faces? who only wears Dior. Which is how Rihanna came to wear two completely tragic Giambattista Valli gowns to two different Valerian premieres over the course of the past week. Last week?s Valli gown was like a ballerina nightmare, all Pink and mullet-dressed and awful. This week?s Valli gown is a too-tight mess which makes her look pregnant.
I mean? on one hand, I get it. Rihanna has put on a little weight and maybe she?s not feeling like showing off her body like she used to. But on the other hand, Rihanna of all people should know that there?s a happy medium between ?wearing next to nothing? versus ?wearing a giant maternity sack which simultaneously is too tight in the bust.? I just don?t see how a designer can get away with doing this to Rihanna of all people.
Cara Delevingne wore a custom Burberry suit with some kind of bejeweled ?cape.? The cape isn?t part of the design of the suit, I don?t think. Cara added this after she put on the Burberry. I don?t know you guys? I actually love the suit and I kind of don?t mind the bejeweled stuff. It?s interesting.
Here?s bonus Clive Owen, looking a bit worse for wear, and Dane DeHaan. Dane is literally the star of this mess and there are like five photos of him total. Clive Owen only has a smallish part, I think, and when I saw him in the trailer, I was like ?Oh, Clive, are you poor?? Why did he do this movie?!?

We?re getting to that part of the summer where I tend to believe all of the really dumb movies are about to come out. In years past, that might have been the case, although I think it was smart to schedule both Atomic Blonde and Dunkirk?s releases this month. But what about Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets? The movie has always looked like a gigantic mess, and I?m assuming that the studio really hopes that it just looks weird enough for people to shrug and say ?alright, why not?? The premiere gave that vibe too – like a stunt gone bad.
Rihanna has a supporting role in the film, and she valiantly tried to steal the show. It worked. Rihanna wore this bubble-gum Pink Giambattista Valli mullet dress with a crazy-long train, and she paired it with lace-up Manolo Blahniks. The effect is very ?futuristic ballerina.? I loathe this dress though.
I have to give it to Cara Delevingne, she looked completely appropriate for the event. Instead of going with some muted and matronly Chanel look, she chose this Iris Van Herpen gown which looks futuristic and amazing. The styling around the look – the hair, makeup – doesn?t completely fit the dress, but whatever. Bonus pic of Cara posing with her co-lead Dane DeHaan, who looks sickly.
Cara?s friend Kendall Jenner came out to support her, which is nice, I guess. Kendall sported an increasingly ?different?-looking face and a Carmen March dress.

As we discussed yesterday, Rihanna has a man. It?s been a while since she?s had an official boyfriend – the last one was Drake, and whatever happened to end it that last time must have been major because she never looked back. For most of Tuesday evening, Rihanna?s Army was simply celebrating their girl getting some action. But then they began investigating the guy, and they figured out his identity: Hassan Jameel. He?s Saudi and his family is worth at least $1.5 billion. Oh, and he looked pleased as punch to finally be outed as Rihanna?s man, check out these new photos, exclusive to the Daily Mail:

It never seemed to me like Rihanna has any issues with getting any man she wants. But I’m startling to realize that she really hasn?t had an official boyfriend or established hook-up since the thing with Drake imploded last year. Even then, the Drake thing was on-and-off for so long, and I?m sure she quietly had some sidepieces. My point is that it was never like Rihanna entered a nunnery. My point is that ?poor single Rihanna? has never been part of her branding. If she?s single, she?s single by choice. If she?s banging some guy and we don?t know about it, that?s because she doesn?t want us to know about it. And if she?s banging some guy and she wants us to know about it, she?ll allow the photos to come out:

The theme of the 2017 Met Gala was Rei Kawakubo and Comme Des Garcons. I honestly believed that most people would interpret the theme as ?deconstructed? and there would be a lot of sack-like dresses. I was pleasantly surprised to see many people attempting the sort of larger-than-life structured, sculptural pieces which Rei Kawakubo is known for. That being said, very few people actually got to wear Comme Des Garcons. Rihanna was obviously one of those people. Rihanna wore this absolutely amazing dress/piece of art by Commes Des Garcon and she was one of the later arrivals. People were primed to see Rihanna and she delivered.
This is what I love: Rihanna consistently shows that she cares. She cares about fashion. She cares about the theme of the Met Gala. She cares about style impacts. She does her research. And she delivers, time after time. This is awesome.
Pharrell Williams & his wife Helen also got to wear Comme Des Garcons. Pharrell was last night?s co-chair and I heard a rumor that Kawakubo personally selected these looks for both Pharrell and Helen Lasichanh. If that?s the case? I can?t hate on this too hard. I mean, Helen is arguably the most on-theme person there. Even though Helen looks like a red Gumby.

The other day, my daughter and I were taking a Buzzfeed quiz and one of the questions asked which celeb we would marry or something. My daughter picked Rihanna because, she said, ?she?s sassy.? I’m kind of on board with my daughter aspiring or being attracted to Rihanna-level sass (or Rihanna in general, really). I say kind of because I really don?t know much about Rihanna other than her music and what I read here. However, now I have yet another reason to be thrilled that she will be my daughter-in-law because Rihanna, it turns out, is as charitable as she is sassy and Harvard is recognizing her for it. Rihanna founded the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012 to fund cancer treatment in her native Barbados. In addition, Rihanna also formed the Clara Lionel (her grandparents names) Foundation Scholarship Program to provide financial assistance for students from the Caribbean attending school in the U.S. That, and her work in Malawi to promote education has made her the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award recipient for 2017. Brava, Rihanna!
The 29-year-old singer has been named Harvard University’s 2017Humanitarian of the Year, and will be presented with the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award during a ceremony on campus next week.
“Rihanna has charitably built a state-of-the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director said in a statement on Wednesday. “She has also created the Clara Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program [named for her grandmother and grandfather] for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries, and supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.”
The “Work” singer, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, founded theClara Lionel Foundationin 2012, a charity aimed at improving impoverished communities around the globe. Last month, Rihanna set off on a mission to promote education in Malawi on behalf of her foundation and theGlobal Citizen organization.
Harvard’s annual Humanitarian of the Year Award recognizes “public and spirited leaders” in honor of the late Rev. Professor Peter J. Gomes. Past recipients include actor James Earl Jones, U.N. Secretaries General Ban Ki-moon, Kofi Annan, and Boutros Boutros-Ghali, and gender rights advocate Malala Yousafzai.

The ceremony is next Tuesday for any Cambridge, MA fans. Look at that list of award recipients! Could you imagine having your name listed alongside those luminaries? Not to mention, Rev. Peter J. Gomes was amazing in his own right. I?m thrilled Rihanna is getting this award if not for the least reason that I am reminded of all her amazing work. How perfectly classy to slide behind the scenes and do so much good work for so many, all in her grandparents? name.
Speaking of amazing work, Rihanna ?s latest single, Love on the Brain, rose to number 8 on the charts, which has landed Rihanna among another list with esteemed company. With her 30th Top Ten hit, Rihanna is now number three behind Madonna and the Beatles for the most top ten hits ever. So confident, sassy, humanitarian, youth advocate and record-breaking musician. Not a bad CV. Guess we know what was in her bedazzled flask at the Grammys: Awesome-Sauce.
Seriously, my heartiest congratulations to Rihanna. She and her family should be very proud of this.

Any other year, and we might have had more time for Rihanna. Rihanna was actually up for several Grammys too, but it was a weird combination of events. First, everyone was so focused on Beyonce and Adele. Secondly, Rihanna arrived late on the red carpet, she didn?t perform and she didn?t win. So I think a lot of people just forgot that she was even there. Which is so weird, because she?s Rihanna. Anyway, she wore this Armani Prive two-piece dress and even though it?s not my favorite thing, I kind of dig it. It?s great on Rihanna, specifically for the Grammys. I might not like it on anyone else at another show. Rihanna looked gorgeous overall – her hair, her makeup, everything. She?s so beautiful.
Also: Rihanna brought her flask and now everyone is obsessed with RiRi drinking from a bejeweled flask. She also seemed to spend a lot of time with Ed Sheeran and Chance.

I was surprised by Daya on the red carpet – I love her voice, and I guess I was expecting someone who seemed a bit tougher. She?s just a tiny little thing, and she’s sort of a nothingburger in person. She wore this Balmain dress which was a total snooze. Bonus photo of Nick Jonas, also wearing Balmain (I love that so many dudes are wearing Balmain these days – it?s the Kanye Effect, I think).
