Rihanna is a proud Barbadian/Bajan. She was born and raised in Barbados, and she returns home several times a year. She invests in Barbados and she?s possibly one of the most famous Bajans ever. But Rihanna is also a citizen of the world, spreading joy and shade and music and makeup and sexiness wherever she goes. And for that, Barbados is super-proud of their favorite daughter. So they?re giving her an ambassadorship.
Rihanna just got a promotion. After seven years as a cultural ambassador for her native Barbados, the pop star, 30, has been appointed the nation?s ?Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,? according to a press release from the country?s Government Information Service.
?Rihanna has a deep love for this country and this is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education. She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home,? Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said in the statement. ?She has also demonstrated, beyond her success as a pop icon, significant creative acumen and shrewdness in business. It is therefore fitting that we engage and empower her to play a more definitive role as we work to transform Barbados.?
Having already helped promote tourism to Barbados since 2008, Rihanna will now also promote the country?s education and investment efforts as part of her new responsibilities.
In the statement, Rihanna was quoted as saying she ?couldn?t be more proud? of being given the chance to help shape the future of her home country.
?I couldn?t be more proud to take on such a prestigious title in my home country,? she said. ?Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I?m ready and excited to take on the responsibility. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team to reimagine Barbados.?

I?m pretty sure that this means that Rihanna has some kind of diplomatic immunity at this point. May she only use it for good! By that I mean, I hope Rihanna just smokes a joint wherever she goes, steals as many wine glasses as she can carry and continue to wear whatever she wants. If a cop tries to say something she?ll take a big drag from her blunt and say ?Nah, diplomatic immunity, sis.? In all seriousness, I love how much Barbados loves Rihanna and how much she gives back. She?s a great advertisement for the small country.

I havent done a post on Rihanna in ages and thats because Rita Ora stole her thunder. And this photoshoot isnt going to get it back. I remember when RiRi was killing the hotness game and causing pantfires everywhere, but its just a memory. Hopefully, she can pull it together and give us some goodness []

Here are some photos of Rihanna on Friday, making a surprise appearance at the Sephora at JCPenney in Brooklyn. I didn?t even know there was a JCPenney in Brooklyn, but there you go. Rihanna made the surprise appearance to celebrate the one-year anniversary of her Fenty Beauty line, which is wildly successful and wildly popular. You can tell it?s popular because all of the other girls with makeup lines are trying to copy her, and because all of the established beauty companies are shook.
For this appearance, Rihanna wore a ruffled (and HOW) dress from Calvin Klein by Appointment. Yeah, on literally anyone else, I would loathe this ?80s disaster. On Rihanna? well, I don?t hate it, but that?s mostly because this shade of hot Pink looks fantastic on her. I do have one question though: IF Rihanna was pregnant, would this be the way she conducted herself? Just out there, living her life, bumping out, without ever confirming it? Because that?s absolutely the vibe I get from this dress. I also thought she looked preg at her Diamond Ball but I didn?t say anything.
In other Rihanna news, she was asked by E! News what advice she would give to her younger self. Her answer? ?Sleep. Because youre not gonna get to do it in your twenties or your thirties, the way my thirties are starting out. Its been hectic but I love it, I love to do stuff. I get bored otherwise, so I like to keep myself busy. I don?t know if I would tell my younger self to get more sleep, but I would definitely tell my younger self to slay more dudes when it didn?t matter. I was so ?in my feelings? back then.

Rihanna?s Diamond Ball gets bigger every year, and a lot of her celebrity friends came out to support her this year. Chopard is one of the sponsors, which is why Rihanna wore some absolutely gigantic Chopard jewels. LOOK AT HER EARRINGS. My God. As for the dress? I dislike it, but I also accept that it?s perfectly ?Rihanna.? Only she would pick out a white lace catsuit with a weird satin mullet-esque dress overlay. The dress is by Alexis Mabille.

It?s been said by many people that with Rihanna?s face and body, she could pretty much wear a sack and she would still look amazing. Rihanna decided to test out that theory at last night?s London premiere of Ocean?s 8. Rihanna wore a dress from Poiret (or POIRET, if we?re supposed to capitalize every letter?) which is actually made from metallic yarn, apparently. What it looks like is that someone made a fancy baked potato with gold foil and she wore the foil after she ate the baked potato. The dress doesn?t fit, it?s not flattering, and I bet she couldn?t even sit down in it. But still? she does look good. I mean, she?s Rihanna. She really can wear anything.
Sandra Bullock looks amazing in a striped, shiny Zuhair Murad. I had been thinking that Sandy was kind of phoning it in for the premieres and press tour, but she looks great here. Sandy also arrived with her boyfriend, Bryan Randall, but they didn?t walk the carpet together.
OH MY GOD, Sarah Paulson, what are you doing?? This is Valentino and it is simply a tablecloth from the 1950s. There?s absolutely nothing redeeming about this at all. I?m actually embarrassed for her.
Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton. This is too wintery for a June premiere, even if it is in London. That being said, if she wore this to a November premiere, I would adore it. I will call her my Grey Swan.
Mindy Kaling was my goth princess in Alberta Ferretti. Love it.
Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood, of course. She looked like she was having a ball in most of these photos.

I?m splitting up the fashion photos from last night?s New York premiere of Ocean?s Eight. This is fashion post #1, starring the one and only Rihanna. The ladies of Ocean?s Eight didn?t coordinate their looks, which is a good thing and a bad thing. It?s a good thing because they all have individual personalities and styles and of course they?ll want to wear wildly different things. It?s a bad thing because there were some big eye-sore clashes. But not with Rihanna! Rihanna looked amazing in this Givenchy dress. I tend to think that Rihanna prefers to wear looser dresses these days because she?s gained some weight (and it looked good on her), but I feel like she hasn?t learned that the extra fabric actually makes you look bigger too. Like, I think Rihanna looks gorgeous here, but she also looks like she?s hiding a second-trimester baby bump.
Cate Blanchett in Missoni. From the front view, I was like ?OMG LA BLANCHETT IS BACK!? But then I saw the weird stripe down the leg and now I?m not 100% on this. I still think it?s an amazing pantsuit, but I just would have preferred it without the stripe.
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Couture. I mean? I?ve never really considered Sandy to be a Fashion Girl. I don?t think she really cares. And that?s what this dress says to me a sparkly beige nothingburger Elie Saab says ?I?m only wearing this because I have to.? Even the hair style is nothing special. Bless her. She probably wishes she was in sweatpants.
Sarah Paulson in neon Prada. Paulson was who I was talking about with the ?clashes.? This YIELD-sign feathered mess looked horrible on the carpet, and it looked bad next to everyone else?s dresses. I think a lot of Paulson?s style normally, but this was a miss.

Almost one year ago, Twitter threw a party when we learned that Rihanna had a man. Rihanna had been keeping information on her love life on lockdown for a while, and I think some people suspected that she had someone, but no one could nail down just who it was. Then a paparazzo got photos of Rihanna and a wealthy Saudi man named Hassan Jameel in some kind of sexy Jacuzzi situation, and suddenly we knew. This was who she was hiding. Hassan was apparently really into her, and he lavished her with gifts and he was at her beck and call. But now it?s looking like things are over?
MediaTakeOut News is reporting that Rihanna has ended things with her billionaire boyfriend of over one year, Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel, because she just gets tired of men sometimes.
Rihanna and him were together for a while, a source told the outlet. It was a good relationship, but now its over. Of course Rihanna broke his heart. Thats what she does: break[s] mens hearts. There was nothing salacious or explosive about the ending either, the source claimed. Rihanna just got tired of him. She gets tired of men sometimes.

I?m not going to say this as a criticism, but merely as an observation: Rihanna seems like one of those women who gets bored very easily in relationships, which is why I think she tends to go back and forth between ?good guys? and very damaged men. Like, her head tells her to go for someone more stable and nice, but she usually gets bored with those dudes pretty quickly, and then she needs a fling or a relationship with a guy who brings a lot of drama and damage to the table. My guess is that if Hassan and Rihanna did break up, it?s just as they say: she got tired of him. She got bored with him. On to the next one, Rih.

Before the Met Gala even started, I was really concerned that no one would just put their own fashion statement on some pope gear. Thankfully, Rihanna was like ?I?M THE NEW POPE, Y?ALL.? Rihanna wore this custom Maison Margiela (by John Galliano) look which is Pope Chic. There was a serious Popening happening at this year?s Met Gala, but Rihanna is definitely The People?s Pope. I love her. I love the way she interprets themes.
Chadwick Boseman also did some pope gear, and this is Versace. He?s the Pope-King of Wakanda.

Transgender rights and issues have come to the forefront very quickly. It actually surprised to me to look back and see how quickly the conversation shifted, seemingly overnight. My cynical side believes that anti-trans bigotry has been on the rise because many of those people realize that attacking gay people is ?out of style? now. In any case, there?s been a rise in anti-trans hate and a rise in trans-issue awareness. Many makeup companies and beauty brands have moved with the times too, hiring prominent transgender women to front campaigns. Rihanna was recently asked if she would ever hire a transgender woman to represent Fenty Beauty, and her response was fascinating:

Remember when Donald Trump was first inaugurated back in January, and everyone was like ?good God this is so much worse than I thought it was going to be? and ?I?m physically in pain right now watching this orange monster in the White House?? You know how we got through it? On the first day of Black History Month (appropriately enough), Beyonce announced her pregnancy. That?s how I got through it – the world seemed less monstrous for a moment whenever I remembered that Beyonce was out there, gestating twins. This how I feel about Rihanna these days too: whenever the news is bringing me down and I?m afraid the nuclear holocaust is upon us, I remember that Rihanna is out there, living her best life, banging guys in hot tubs, partying and making makeup for albinos. So come with me and let?s celebrate Rihanna with this great new interview:
What she wants to tell young girls about how to wear clothing that fits their bodies, but also makes them feel good: ?Well, I actually have had the pleasure of a fluctuating body type, where one day I can literally fit into something that is bodycon, and then the next day ? the next week ? I need something oversized; I need a little crop here and a high-waist there to hide that part, you know? I really pay attention every day when I go into the closet about what?s working for my body that morning. I feel like that?s how everyone should go after fashion, because it?s an individual thing. And then, if you take it further, it?s like: What week are you having? You having a skinny week? You having a fat week? Are we doing arms this week? We doing legs this week? We doing oversized? I love to play with silhouettes as well, but I think it?s important to make sure that you wear the thing that works for your body the best, and that?s flattering.
What guys should wear: ?Black! Yes. This is new for me; this is recent. I love a man in black. It?s so sexy and mysterious; confident and secure ? all the things I love about a man. So, I?m into that.
Should men wear sandals? ?I?m from the islands, so we don?t wear socks with shoes, especially sneakers. But it depends on the man. Like, I don?t want to see my boyfriend wearing flip-flops when he?s going to an event. But if Yusef, my hair stylist, wore some flip-flops ? and I?ve seen him wear some crazy ones, especially the Versace sandals or something like that ? he turns it out. It really depends on the man; you really gotta be able to pull it off.
Whether she checks out trends on Instagram: ?Instagram is the death of all trends. Once it gets there, it?s too late. It?s gone. I?m so over it. I can?t; I can?t deal.
What she does when she has a bad week: ?I pray a lot. A lot. And I try to just look at every situation like there?s some reason behind it. Even if I can?t feel it in that moment, I just thank God anyway, because I know that there?s something better coming, and he?s doing it for my good. I just don?t understand it right now. I look forward to when it?s revealed to me.

?I actually have had the pleasure of a fluctuating body type?? Only Rihanna can get away with saying that and actually come across as completely above-board. Imagine if Gwyneth said that. Then again, Gwyneth would never admit to a fluctuating body type!! But yes, it?s true, Rihanna?s weight has yo-yo?d a bit this year. I enjoy that, precisely because we?re getting to see how Rihanna dresses when she?s a little bit thicker. She?s approaching weight gain like a styling opportunity to be relished, which is a great way to look at it. Of course, it always helps when you look like Rihanna to begin with.
Also: I feel like the only woman in the world who doesn’t care about men in sandals. Most men have ugly feet. But men deserve to let their fug feet breathe in warm weather too. Toe equality, peeps! Men should feel free to wear sandals.
