Lenny Kravitz: 'To this day, I have not been invited to a BET thing or Source Awards'
Lenny Kravitz covers the Winter Issue of Esquire, ahead of the release of his first album in five years. Lenny is forever the coolest cat, genuinely talented, respected by his peers and adored by women. He?s also been, historically, sort of an idiosyncratic character, but I found this Esquire interview really interesting and direct. He?s not stuck up his own ass he talks about the racism he faced in the white rock establishment, while he was also being ignored by Black entertainment outlets. He also talked a lot about how much the LGBTQ+ community has meant to him and been his family from the start. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

On struggling to be taken seriously by the rock-critic establishment: ?There was this one article that, at that time, said, ?If Lenny Kravitz were white, he would be the next savior of rock ?n? roll.? I got a lot of negativity thrown at me by all these older white men who weren?t going to let me have that position? It was discouraging at times. I?m good. Intact?happy, healthy, focused, with still so much to do.?

On his treatment by Black entertainment and culture outlets: ?To this day, I have not been invited to a BET thing or a Source Awards thing. And it?s like, here is a Black artist who has reintroduced many Black art forms, who has broken down barriers?just like those that came before me broke down. That is positive. And they don?t have anything to say about it? I?m not here for the accolades. I?m here for the experience.?

On the people he used to surround himself with early in his career: ?I got burned. Completely. I put it all out there, and I put it all out there in a way for people to take advantage of it. I was an empty vessel?Saying no is very difficult for me. I was like that from childhood. My mom used to call me the Pied Piper. I?d bring everybody home. Just met them a few hours ago? I bring them home. I love people. I always have loved people.?

On the recent racist and misogynistic comments from Rolling Stone founder and former editor-in-chief Jann Wenner: ?It?s very disappointing and sad. I?ve known Jann since 1987. I?ve been to his house. In his life. I was disappointed. I was very disappointed. The statement alone, even if you just heard about the man yesterday, was appalling and embarrassing. And just wrong.?

On how the LGBTQ+ community has been a big influence on his life: ?Not only in fashion and style, because that?s just something on top. They raised me. I was in the street?my choice?and it was the eighties in West Hollywood. It was that time; artists, musicians, hairstylists, and designers, those were the people I was hanging out with. I wanted to be around the creatives, and most of the people I met were from that community. [They] protected me. Educated me. Fed me.?

On the infidelity ?word curse? his father put on him: ?I felt it when he said it, but the shock waves lasted decades and got stronger and stronger and stronger?I put some people through some hard times.?

On getting married again: ?Absolutely. I?ve grown enough. I?ve become stronger. I?ve become more disciplined. I?ve become more open to be able to do so. But it?s been a very difficult thing for me to figure out.?

On being open to having more kids: ?I could not, and I could. If it doesn?t happen, I?ve done the best with Zo that I could ever dream to do. If I was with somebody that wanted to have kids, absolutely. A hundred percent.?

On his grueling touring schedule: ?Your whole life is centered around being able to do those two and a half hours every night. So you don?t hang out. You don?t smoke. You don?t drink. You don?t talk a lot. You?ve got to get your sleep.?

[From Esquire]

59 years old and he?s not ready to say for-sure that he won?t have another kid? Eh. Honestly, though, it?s surprising that Zoe is his only child, just as it feels strange that Lisa Bonet was his only wife. Maybe that marriage was so monumental, he never could manage to repeat the energy. Do you think he?ll eventually remarry? Hm. I would marry him just for access to his amazing real estate. And of course, he?s Lenny and he?s still got ?it.? That being said, he knows he?s a compulsive cheater and he knows he put a lot of women through a lot of tough times. Does his real estate portfolio make up for it though??

Lenny Kravitz feels he's 'really ready' for a forever-love at the age of 54
Whenever I see Lenny Kravitz in a TV interview, I?m always reminded of the fact that he actually IS very charming. It?s not just good looks and mysterious rocker vibes. He?s very charming, sweet, intelligent and game for shenanigans, like when he flashed his abs at Emma Thompson when she was teasing him about his body. Anyway, if a hot, interesting, charming, funny, game, intelligent man like Lenny can?t find true love, what hope is there for the rest of us? Lenny chatted with People Magazine as a way to highlight his charitable foundation?s work, and of course he also talked a bit about his love life. His non-existent love life. The poor man just tours as a rock star constantly and then sits alone in his Bahamas home or his Paris apartment, sad because he cannot find THE ONE.

His love woes: Sitting just outside his home recording studio on the rural Bahamian island of Eleuthera, Lenny Kravitz?with his chiseled features, towering locks and timeless cool?reveals a shocker: he?s having a tough time in the love department. ?I would really like [to find love]. But it?s difficult for me, being so dedicated to my art, which is not an excuse, it?s just difficult?. When the ?Fly Away? singer is touring the world, ?I?m nowhere or I?m everywhere,? he says.

His Let Love Rule Foundation. This past January, Kravitz?s Let Love Rule foundation and his dentist Jonathan Levine?s GLO Good Foundation brought free dental care to over 400 Eleuthera locals as part of their annual dental clinic. Kravitz and Levine?s sons Julian and Cody recently partnered up to launched Twice Toothpaste, with flavors for morning and night to promote better dental hygiene and raise funds to expand the clinic to include medical services for the poverty-stricken island. ?It?s the best feeling in the world,? Kravitz says of the work they?re doing.

His relationship with his ex-wife Lisa Bonet: ?We?re like brother and sister. After Lisa and I separated, we learned to find a new relationship. Then I met Jason [Momoa] when they got together and I love him, he loves my kid and I love their kids and we?re all one big family. It?s beautiful.?

He?s ready for a forever-love: ?I?m at a place now where I?ve been through so many relationships, and I haven?t been good at it all the time, at all. I?ve had a lot to learn, but I feel like I?m at a place where I?m really ready for that.? Sounding hopeful, he adds ?things come to you when you?re ready, I believe.?

[From People]

Someone do a remake of Bridget Jones Diary in 2019 and cast Lenny. Come on, I would watch that. I mean? it?s a little bit funny to hear a 54-year-old man talk this way, about only just now realizing that he?s ready for a forever love. Only now, after decades of bedding beautiful models, actresses, singers, and everybody else. I?m actually sort of convinced that this is Lenny?s ?line? this is how he still picks up women around the world. Soulful eyes, quiet voice, an admission about how lonely it gets on tour, how he?s finally ready for a forever love? I would fall for that sh-t, I?ll admit.

Lenny Kravitz: 'I personally think women should be running the world'
These are photos of Lenny Kravitz at the NRJ Music awards in Cannes a few days ago. He attended with French singer Shy’m. Are they together? I’m more fascinated by his very Lenny ensemble. He’s wearing a Saint Laurent jacket and rocking those red leather pants and leopard print boots. Who else could get away with this outfit? No one, but Lenny gets away with all of it. He can literally wear anything or nothing at all.

Lenny has a newish interview with Flatt magazine. It’s a super long piece, and his answers span paragraphs. Lenny has a very idealistic view of art and its place in the world, but it’s not obnoxious in a Gaga way. Lenny doesn’t try to call attention to himself. He’s simply being himself, and he seems very grateful to be fabulous (even though he believes he’s not cool) for a living. His thoughts on women are both respectful and provocative:

His role in music: “The artist?s role in society is to keep reflecting what?s happening, to keep reporting, as it were. Because with the way that things are going, art is getting pushed into the bottom level, unless it?s something that?s for great gain. You know, art that goes for ridiculous prices, I mean, incredibly ridiculous prices, because that?s the business. So on that level, people are going to keep art going because there?s money in it. But where there?s not necessarily money in it and it?s about expression and it?s raw, those outlets are diminishing.”

His modern role models: “Wow, that?s a hard one. I don?t really feel there is a distinct voice for this generation so I stick with the classic voices still speak to me like Jesus Christ, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.”

His thoughts on women: “I personally think women should be running the world. I know that?s such a funny, easy thing to say. My first experience with women would be my grandmother, my mother and my aunt. They were the women that raised me. At an early age, I understood it in my spirit the strength of women, the loyalty of women, the fact that women do whatever they need to do to take care of their families or loved ones. Women?s dedication, hard work, honor. These women were the rocks of my life, the pillars of my life. Without these women, life for our families would not be what they are. I believe women are so much more sensible, have so much better intuition, and ultimately are stronger. For me, I?ve always gotten along better with women. I?ve always

Gwyneth Paltrow Parties It Up with Lenny Kravitz
Treating herself to a rockin' night on the town, Gwyneth Paltrow attended an afterparty following musician Lenny Kravitz's gig with Absolute Radio in London on Monday night (September 12).

The "Contagion" actress was all smiles as she posed arm-in-arm with the rocker at The Box Soho locale - with the event being part of Lenny's launch efforts for his new album 'Black and White America'.

The outing comes on the heels of another accolade for Miss Paltrow - as she ended up being named as the winner of a Creative Arts Emmy Award during the annual ceremony on Saturday night.

Gwyneth was named as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as substitute teacher Holly Holiday on "Glee".

With the 38-year-old not on-hand to collect her trophy, presenter Alison Brie jokingly told the audience, "She couldn't be here because it's happy hour at the Starlight Room."

Mariah Carey gets a good review for her latest film role
In a surprising turn of events, reviewers actually seem to like Mariah Carey in a film. And no, she isn?t playing a self-obsessed singer.

At least one early review was positive. Show business paper Daily Variety called “Push,” “courageous and uncompromising,” and added that “among the many delightful surprises in the film is Mariah Carey, who is pitch-perfect as a welfare counselor and serves as this demi-tragedy’s Greek chorus.”

In “Push,” Carey has chosen the small but pivotal role of a woman who unravels Precious’ monstrous home life of abuse and teenage motherhood.

Mariah describes her character in a slightly confusing manner. Mariah plays Mrs Weiss, a social welfare worker helping a teenage mother deal with her abusive past.

“Mrs Weiss is sort of the eyes of the audience, the people who don’t know anybody like this in their lives,” Carey said.

“Yes it’s her job … but even someone who goes through that every day and sees these horrific things, she hears something that changes her,” Carey said about the range of emotions she must show as Mrs. Weiss.

I think she means that, like the audience, we?re seeing this situation ourselves for the first time, and we?re meant to be affected by it in the same way as she is on screen.

It?s good to see Mariah actually take on something where she?s not carrying the film, and it isn?t just a vanity role for her. She obviously knew she would have to work hard to win our favor following Glitter.

Also featured in the film is Mo?Nique as the abused teen’s mother, and Lenny Kravitz briefly as a nurse. Sherri Shepherd also has a small supporting role. Push is based on the novel of the same name, written by Sapphire. The central character, Precious, is played by Gabourey Sabide, which is possibly why there is so much star casting around her. The film is currently seeking a distributor.

Nick Cannon also appears in a Sundance film, The Killing Room, in a much larger role than Mariah’s. Unfortunately this role, like all of Nick Cannon?s life, is upstaged by his wife.
