The trailer for Clint Eastwood?s new film is finally out. This is J. Edgar, the Leonardo DiCaprio-starring project about the J. Edgar Hoover years at the FBI. It?s a bio-pic, but I think the focus is more about morality and domestic spying and how Hoover made the FBI into the organization it is? Armie Hammer plays Hoover?s right-hand man and possible lover, and Dame Judi Dench stars as Hoover?s mom. Oh, and you might think that the redhead is just a budget Scarlett Johansson, but it?s actually Naomi Watts, styled to look like ScarJo for some reason:
My first thought was that Judi Dench owns this junk. I would love to see Clint Eastwood and Judi Dench, just chilling out and having a beer together, so I like the idea that Clint directed one of the great English actresses. And Judi and Leonardo look very nice together as mother and son, don?t they? I wonder if they got along. Leo has a thing about his own mom, so I suspect he was lovely and respectful of Judi, and I also suspect that Judi will probably be the ?shoo-in? for all of the supporting actress awards. That seems to be Clint?s idea - look how prominently Judi figures into the trailer.
As for Leonardo? I think he pulls off the transformation into the older, grosser-looking J. Edgar rather well. I also think that Armie Hammer is going to be the eye-candy of this film, right? Leo is letting Armie be the ?pretty one?.
Anyway? yes, this looks good. I?m very interested in seeing this film, but it?s not a fan-girl hysteria or anything.

Leonardo DiCaprio is the cover boy for the October issue of GQ - emphasis on ?boy?. Did they set the Photoshop tool to ?1999?? Leo?s face is not this thin anymore. I like Leo and everything, but as he?s grown up, weight has gone to his face and it?s never left and he?s no longer this good-looking kid that GQ wants us to see. Anyway, you can see the full slideshow here - lots of nice photos, where Leo looks very young. Leo is promoting his new film, J. Edgar, which was directed by living legend Clint Eastwood. Leo?s big accomplishment as an actor before now was his relationship with Martin Scorsese, who is famously detail-oriented and almost OCD. I would imagine coming off of several Scorsese films, working with laid-back, easy-going Clint Eastwood would be a breath of fresh air. The tabloids tried to make it sound like Clint and Leo weren?t getting along, but Clint is around for part of Leo?s interview, and they sound like two men who respect each other. Here are some interview excerpts:
Leo on learning to care about the financial part of filmmaking: “Throughout my career, I never knew which movies of mine made money and which didn’t. When Titanic came out, people would say, ‘Do you realize what a success this is?’ And I’d say, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s a hit.’ The [money] stuff never mattered to me until I was into my thirties and got interested in producing, and people would show me charts explaining what finances a movie, what you’ll make from foreign, what you’ll make from domestic, what you need to make an R-rated film that’s a comedy versus a drama. But even now I say that unless you want to prove that you can carry a film with your name, continuously trying to achieve box-office success is a dead end.”
Leo felt overwhelmed: “My introduction to acting in films was with De Niro in This Boy’s Life. When I got the part I was 15, and somebody said, ‘Do you realize who you’re gonna work with?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I guess.’ And they said, ‘No, no, no. Go watch all of his films, and then go see these people’s films.’ So I obsessively watched films on VHS, and I remember feeling so overwhelmed by what had been done in cinema already. Watching a young Brando or James Dean or Montgomery Clift, I was like, Oh, my God, how can anyone ever hope to achieve that type of greatness?”
Leo?s wet dream (as an actor): “For my generation, it’s always the ’70s. That period where you felt like the hands were being dealt back in the director’s favor. The studios realized that letting them tell their stories was something the audience had a hunger for. And of course, it all went awry. [They both laugh.] Taxi Driver to me is the ultimate independent-movie performance. Playing a character like Travis Bickle is every young actor’s wet dream.”
GQ: [To Eastwood] You’ve described yourself as a social libertarian. What does that mean to you?
Clint Eastwood: I was an Eisenhower Republican when I started out at 21, because he promised to get us out of the Korean War. And over the years, I realized there was a Republican philosophy that I liked. And then they lost it. And libertarians had more of it. Because what I really believe is, let’s spend a little more time leaving everybody alone. These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don’t give a f–k about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of.
Leonardo DiCaprio: That’s the most infuriating thing?watching people focus on these things. Meanwhile, there’s the onset of global warming and?
Clint Eastwood: Exactly!
Leonardo DiCaprio: ?and these incredibly scary and menacing things with the future of our economy. Our relationship to the rest of the world. And here we are focusing on this?
Clint Eastwood: They go on and on with all this bulls–t about “sanctity”?don’t give me that sanctity crap! Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want.
Eastwood on J. Edgar Hoover and the gay issue: “I’d heard all the various controversies and gossip?that he wore dresses at parties. Everybody was saying, maybe he’s gay because he’d never gotten married. But that’s the way they did it back in the ’40s. If a guy didn’t get married, they always thought, Oh, there’s something wrong with him? Well, [Hoover and Clyde Tolson, the associate director of the FBI] were inseparable pals. Now, whether he was gay or not is gonna be for the audience to interpret. It could have been just a great love story between two guys. Or it could have been a great love story that was also a sexual story.”
Leo on the gay thing: “What we’re saying is that [Hoover] definitely had a relationship with Tolson that lasted for nearly fifty years. Neither of them married. They lived close to one another. They worked together every day. They vacationed together. And there was rumored to be more. There are definite insinuations of?well, I’m not going to get into where it goes, but?”
Eastwood: “It’s not a movie about two gay guys. It’s a movie about how this guy manipulated everybody around him and managed to stay on through nine presidents. I mean, I don’t give a crap if he was gay or not.”
Adds Leo: “If I were a betting man, I actually don’t know what I would bet [regarding his sexuality].”

I actually thought that it was part of the historical record that J. Edgar was gay, and a transvestite. Right? Aren?t they teaching that in history books at this point? But if Clint Eastwood says it?s open to debate, so be it. Oh, and Clyde Tolson - Hoover?s rumored lover/life-partner - is being played by Armie Hammer. That big hunk of handsome that our moms love. I think Lainey had the exclusive on this a few days ago - Blake Lively flew to Australia just to spend a little time with her boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio, who is Down Under to film The Great Gatsby. It doesn?t sound like much, but keep in mind several things: one, Blake is a Rules Girl, and traveling thousands of miles for dong has to be against one of the ?rules?; two, I don?t think Leo is used to having such demonstrative girlfriends, is he? The kind of girls who fly for eight hours for a booty call? And three, it was Blake?s birthday! All she wanted for her birthday was (Leo?s) dong. I guess she probably wanted to keep an eye on him too, make sure he wasn?t off, boning some Australian randoms.
Nothing can keep them apart! Blake Lively flew thousands and thousands of miles to be with Leonardo DiCaprio — traveling across the world from the U.S. to Australia for a belated birthday weekend, a source confirms to Us Weekly.
Lively, who turned 24 last Thursday, visited her man, 36, who’s currently shooting The Great Gatsby in Sydney.
The twosome (whose romance began in late spring with a whirlwind tour of Europe’s poshest hotspots) were reportedly spotted having a romantic dinner Saturday night at Sydney hotspot Aria — with a prime view overlooking Sydney’s famed harbor.
But, indeed, it was a short and sweet trip. A source close to the Gossip Girl actress confirms that she’s already back in the States as of Tuesday.

E! News also reports that Blake and Leo got a private tour of the Featherdale Wildlife Park. The manager of the park said: “They both loved the koalas and spent quite a bit of time with Austin, one of our younger koalas. Both Leo and Blake were friendly and inquisitive about the animals. We took them into the dingo enclosure where they met one of our dingo pups called Nala. They weren’t at all afraid of the animals including the young saltwater crocodile and diamond python Cuddles, who we brought out for them to meet. The pair seemed really happy in each other’s company and there was no diva-like behavior from either of them I think Blake especially enjoyed meeting the dingoes, and the baby wombat was a big hit, too. [Leo] asked about our endangered animals, and we made sure to feed the Tasmanian devil while they were there.”
Aw? so Leo took his girl to visit the baby koalas for her birthday, and then he took her to a nice dinner? That?s so? sweet. I?m really starting to believe that Leo is seriously loved up. We?ll see how well this Australian film shoot goes - it could go on forever, and Blake might get stuck in NYC and LA, and then their relationship could falter. We?ll see!

With plenty of successful years under his belt, Leonardo DiCaprio recently treated himself to quite the luxurious new ride.
The ?Inception? star was spotted driving his new 2012 Fisker Karma in Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday (August 17).
While the vehicle looks oh-so-swanky, it actually is a plug-in hybrid with a range of 300 miles fully charged and, if operated in stealth mode (battery mode), the driver can get up to 100 miles per gallon.
In 2009, the Fisker Karma became the first electric vehicle to be named a North American Production Preview Vehicle of the Year by the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards.

Making the most of the beautiful weather, Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively were seen biking in New York City on Saturday (July 30).
The ?Titanic? stud and the ?Gossip Girl? actress were joined by Lukas Haas as they pedaled their way around Manhattan, firmly cementing their relationship in the ?still going strong? category.
Blake has been tied down to the Big Apple as of late as her CW show began filming for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, DiCaprio has been gearing up for the October release of his new flick ?J. Edgar,? also starring Blake?s costar Ed Westwick.

Taking care of his to-do list, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted out and about in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon (June 6).
The ?Catch Me If You Can? stud was joined by a male friend as he hoofed it around town, sporting a backwards ballcap and sunglasses.
According to a report, Leo wrapped up his uber-romantic French Riviera holiday with Blake Lively by taking her to Disneyland.
Blake made a quick stop at the MTV Movie Awards before being whisked off to Anaheim where she and DiCaprio enjoyed VIP treatment at the theme park.

Enjoying some quality time together, Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively were seen out in Venice, Italy yesterday (June 2).
The ?Catch Me If You Can? stud and the ?Town? babe took a water taxi together, with Blake chatting on her mobile phone while Leo directed the driver.
And it sounds like things are heating up between these two lovebirds, as Leo recently introduced Blake as his ?girlfriend? when attending a Grand Prix viewing bash aboard a yacht.
According to a close friend, DiCaprio has fallen head over heels for his ?Gossip Girl.? ?I?ve never seen him like this with a girl.?

Ever since Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively hugged each other on Steven Spielberg?s yacht in Cannes, there have been lots of reports of all of the ?other? ladies Leo has been spending time with after his split from Bar Refaeli. Sidenote: there were lots of stories of his ?other? ladies while he was still with Bar too. Anyway, even though this Blake ?n Leo romance is being sold to us - HARD - it looks like Leo is still sampling a wide array of international model biscuits. My assumption: Blake is fine with it, because she thinks she gets to be the ?official girlfriend?. In my mind, this mindset is called ?Pulling A Biel?. Anyway, Star Magazine has an interesting report about how Leo spent a few days in between nuzzling Blake?s bolt-ons:
Well, that was fast! Leonardo DiCaprio started a hot new romance with Blake Lively while traveling in Europe in mid-May. But while it may have been love at first sight for Blake, Leo seemed to have other ideas.
Just days after trolling around Portofino, Italy with Blake, he was spotted with a sexy brunette named Natalie at the exclusive Monte Carlo Beach Club, where they shared a private cabana facing the sea away from prying eyes.
Then, on May 27, two days later, he was back with Blake, touring Saint-Paul de Vance in France.

Yesterday, Lainey discussed what Leo?s possible response - publicly or privately - would be to Blake?s ongoing nude photo scandal. I say ?scandal? when really I mean ?probably one of the best things that?s ever happened to her career, long-term.? While Leo?s general MO seems to be to keep everything low-key, without scandal, without any mainstream reports of his dirtier side, I wonder if Leo is changing it up a bit. The simple fact that Leo is with Blake for now is surprising when you look at his history. And the fact that they keep getting pap?d all over Europe, and that he?s still into it? Also interesting.
I think privately, Leo is definitely into the ?trashy? element that Blake is currently bringing to the table, but publicly he wants to be seen as Mr. Hollywood, Mr. Mainstream, the next George Clooney/Tom Hanks-style move star. The Clooney comparison is interesting, especially since so many of you think Leo might be in the closet. Some of you think Clooney is too. I disagree on both counts. I don?t think either Clooney or Leo are gay. I think they?re into women (at least ?women? who are physically women right now, but might not have been born that way). And I think they both like it really, really dirty. They like some ?extra?.
So? what does this mean for Blake and Leo? Will he stick with her through this ?scandal? or will he ditch her and go back to his low-key, no drama, Mr. Hollywood power player image? Or is he still enchanted by the bolt-ons, at least until the end of the summer? I don?t know. It?s a mystery to me.

Stepping out for a good cause, Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted at the Cinema for Peace inaugural dinner in Cannes, France last night (May 18).
The ?Catch Me If You Can? actor looked dapper as he arrived at the Carlton Hotel as part of the 64th Cannes International Film Festival schedule.
During the course of the evening, actor Sean Penn was honored for his charity work in post-earthquake Haiti.
Earlier in the week, DiCaprio was spotted enjoying some quality time with Blake Lively, after having split with Bar Refaeli.

This morning there was a curious little item in Page Six about how Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio were spotted together in Cannes late one night. I bought the story, mainly because I think Blake is working her ass off to ensure that she?s Leo?s Next Girlfriend. Because that?s a role she actually pull off, you know? Acting is SO HARD. Can?t she just lay around in a bikini beside Leo? Anyway, these are new photos of Blake and Leo together, FINALLY. I think he?s been riding her (I?m being blunt, I know, but it?s true) for months, and these are the first photos we have of them looking couple-y.
Here?s what I think: I think Leo either knew or didn?t care that he was being photographed. He?s on a yacht or something, chilling with his boys and with Steven Spielberg. So maybe he just really likes Blake?s technique, or maybe she looks better in a bikini than most models (true story), or maybe? I don?t even know. Whatever it was, Leo decided that he was okay with publicly, officially declaring Blake his Next One with this photo op.
Lainey doesn?t think it?s happening. I just think Leo isn?t big on PDA. The hug was enough. The hug says, ?I?m happy to be in the same frame with this chick, think whatever you want.? And look at Blake?s face. She knows she just won the prize! This is bigger than any movie role, honestly. The chance to be The Girlfriend. It?s all she ever dreamt of. I?m kind of rooting for her, honestly. I hated Leo and Bar. I hope Blake manages to figure it out.
PS? I love the photo where Blake is telling a story and all of the dudes are watching her! Spielberg is all ?Seriously, Leo? This bitch??
