| Leo DiCaprio will be starring as Leonardo da Vinci in a new bio-pic: eh or yay? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Leonardo DiCaprio is going to play Leonardo da Vinci. Which is worth discussing, for sure, but what I got out of this story was something different: that a brand new biography about da Vinci is coming out and it sounds really good. The biography is simply called Leonardo da Vinci, and it was written by Walter Isaacson, the acclaimed biographer of books like Einstein: His Life and Universe, Steve Jobs and The Innovators: How a Group of Inventors, Hackers, Geniuses, and Geeks Created the Digital Revolution. The Steve Jobs book already became a movie starring Michael Fassbender (sort of, they did use it for source material) and the Einstein book was used for the NatGeo series Genius. So, Isaacson turned his researcher?s eye to da Vinci and the book is coming out soon. Before the book has even been published, there was a bidding war for the movie rights, based on just the galleys. Paramount and Universal both wanted the rights, and Paramount had DiCaprio lined up to star and produce, with his own producing shingle Appian Way. Paramount won the bidding war:
According to info from the publisher, Walter Isaacson used Da Vinci?s notebooks to weave a narrative that connects his art to his science and voracious curiosity and imagination. Aside from his priceless paintings, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy (his iconic drawing of Vitruvian Man), fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology and weaponry. He peeled flesh off the faces of cadavers, drew the muscles that move the lips and then painted history?s most memorable smile. He explored the math of optics, showed how light rays strike the cornea and produced illusions of changing perspectives in The Last Supper. Isaacson also describes how Leonardo?s lifelong enthusiasm for staging theatrical productions informed his paintings and inventions. According to the book, he also was a bit of a misfit: illegitimate, gay, vegetarian, left-handed, easily distracted and at times heretical.
Paramount just emerged from an intense two-studio bidding battle to win a seven-figure auction for the rights to Walter Isaacson?s book Leonardo da Vinci, which will be crafted as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio to play the painter/scientist. He and Jennifer Davisson will produce through their Appian Way banner. Paramount had the early lead on this one, but Universal came in aggressively Friday afternoon, and the bidding continued until it just wrapped up moments ago with ICM Partners brokering the deal for Isaacson. This is a big get for Paramount, where Appian Way has its deal and expects to be a big part of the studio rebound. After Universal stepped up, Paramount did what it had to do to win the title. Elizabeth Raposo was a big part of making it happen, sources said.
[From Deadline]
Leo had already inked a deal with Paramount following his Oscar win in 2016 – he will star and produce three films with Paramount, in association with his Appian Way production company. The film that they?ve been trying to put together for a year is the story of 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombing, where Jonah Hill would play Richard Jewell, the man falsely accused of planting the bomb, with Leo playing Jewell?s lawyer. I wonder if that project will be put on the backburner as this Leo-plays-Leo film gets pushed for a speedy production. As for the idea of Leo playing da Vinci? I don?t see it, but whatever. Like, Leo can?t do accents and it will be strange to see da Vinci portrayed by some dude with an American accent. I also don?t think Leo looks at all like da Vinci. But as I said, whatever. It?s happening and there?s nothing we can do about it.

I made a mistake yesterday when I was talking about Leonardo DiCaprio. I made a reference to the ?P-ssy Posse,? Leo?s long-standing group of bros. Only they aren?t calling themselves that anymore. So sad! According to multiple reports about Leo?s post-Oscar-win partying, Leo and his bros call themselves The Wolf Pack now. As in? Wolf of Wall Street? Or the ?wolf pack? from The Hangover series? Both options are pretty bad.
Leonardo DiCaprio celebrated his Oscar win with an intimate party with his friends and family. DiCaprio attended the Governors Ball and the Vanity Fair bash before heading to restaurant Ago on Melrose Avenue to meet up with his nearest and dearest ?where everyone could get in,? says a source.
?Leo was with all his boys,? says a witness. ?It was a lot of dudes.?
We hear the jolly group included Lukas Haas, Tobey Maguire, Chuck Pacheco, his ?Romeo + Juliet? co-star Vincent Laresca and club vet Richie Akiva. Leo?s mom Irmelin Indenbirken, dad George, stepmom Peggy DiCaprio, as well as ?The Revenant? producer and New Regency owner Arnon Milchan and others on his team hung out to celebrate.
?A couple of the guys kept standing on the couch and lifting the Oscar and passing it around,? says the spy. And rather like a scene from his movie ?The Wolf of Wall Street? the crew was howling and chanting, ?Wolf pack, wolf pack, wolf pack.?
DiCaprio was having so much fun, he appeared to almost forget his Oscar. Video outside the bash shows the star seated in a car before someone rushes out with his statuette.
[From Page Six]
The NYDN says that Leo and his boys rolled up at Ago around midnight, and a witness said, ?They (apparently) called themselves ?The Wolf Pack.? The crew was literally howling like wolves all night. They kept chanting, ?Wolf Pack, Wolf Pack, Wolf Pack!?? My God, how cheesy. I?m all for men having dude-friends and some days, I actually think it?s sweet that Leo has such a core group of bros that he?s been close to for literally decades. But is it really a friendship of equals, or is Leo now (and has he always been) the King of the Wolves? The balance of power has always been off with this group, because it?s always all about Leo. Yeah, he takes care of his boys and in return, they all act like overgrown frat douches and wolf-howl all over LA clubs. Cheeseball.

This one was a given. Of course Leo DiCaprio won. We knew he was going to win since December, pretty much. We knew he was going for it when he found out that he had hired all the Oscar consultants in Hollywood. And, at the end of the day, I don?t blame him for wanting it and I don?t blame him for going for it. But I?ve enjoyed his desperation and neediness. I actually never wanted it to end.
So Leo won. He unclenched. They made him sit through months of shilling, then they made him sit through four hours of other people being handed Oscars. They made him sit through really long clips of all of the other actors. He RUSHED the stage, and of course he got a standing ovation. For Boy Drama In the Woods.
Leo thanked Tom Hardy first off, and for what it?s worth, I do think that they?re really buds. Then he thanked Inarritu, his team, his family, his friends (the P-ssy Posse), then he made a larger statement about climate change, 2015 being the hottest year on record, something something indigenous people: “Climate change is real. It’s happening right now.”
Also, you?ve got to love how hard Leo has been trolled by, like, Establishment Hollywood. They?re like, ?we?re giving you this Oscar but we?re going to make fun of you the whole time.? Who greenlighted the fake bear in the audience at the Oscars? Because the fact that Leo was so TIGHT and PINCHED that he couldn?t even laugh? That made it next-level funny.

| Leo DiCaprio & Tom Hardy premiere 'The Revenant' in LA: grumpy or hot' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The first premiere of The Revenant was held last night in LA. ?Tis the season for bear rape. Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy got all dressed up and walked the red carpet ? together, for a moment, and then they walked separately. I think Leo made sure to get on the carpet early so every media outlet would get a few quotes from him, but it doesn?t look like Tom Hardy did the same. Speaking of Leo and quotes, an E! reporter asked Leo point-blank about the bear-rape stuff and Leo said, ?I have no idea where these ridiculous stories came from, what you can do when you hear stuff like that??
As for Tom and Leo? well, obviously, I know which one I would choose in a ?Who would you rather?? battle. I think most sentient women would prefer a roll in the hay with The Bloke. But I?ll give Leo something: I like him this way, shilling for an Oscar, with a whiff of try-hard about him. He?s usually Too Cool For School, too busy trying to be Jack Nicholson. Seeing Leo?s try-hard vibe is the closest we?ll get to seeing him vulnerable. If you couldn?t tell, I?m enjoying Leo?s Oscar campaign. I hope it never ends. Both Leo and Tom were flying solo last night – no wives or girlfriends allowed on the red carpet for their Boy Drama In the Woods movie.
God, the Bloke looks great here, right? He claims he never punched Alejandro Inarritu. Do you believe him? I do not. I think Tom seems very grumpy about this film for good reason.
PS? We got a tip from a reader last week that Tom has a suspicious new tattoo reading ?Marlow.? Our reader (thanks April!) thinks Marlow might be the name of Tom?s new baby. We still don?t know the sex of the baby, right? Marlow is a unisex name, but Sienna Miller named her daughter Marlowe and I feel like it?s a name that tilts more towards a girl?s name now.

| Leo DiCaprio is a Calamity Jane: 'If a cat has nine lives, I think I?ve used a few' | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|

|
You know what would make Leonardo DiCaprio?s Oscar campaign go down a little bit easier? If he showed us his sense of humor. He shows us glimpses of his humor, like when he?s doing a cameo on Jonah Hill?s episode of Saturday Night Live, or when he? I don?t know, hangs out with his bros? But mostly Leo keeps his image tight in the public sphere, and this year in particular, he?s seeming a little bit too earnest and pinched. He wants that Oscar so much! I don?t blame him for following the program, but I wish the people advising him would plan out some very special ?unrehearsed moments? for Leo to show his silly, lighter side.
Anyway, I was reminded of all of this because I just read Leo?s Wired interview. He doesn?t say anything controversial, he?s professional and he doesn?t complain. But show us some personality, damn it! In between discussions of the ?visual, existential poetry? of Alejandro Innaritu?s direction, Leo chats about the bear mauling, his support for Bernie Sanders and how he?s almost died several times. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:
The difficult moments on The Revenant: ?Moments? Every single day of this movie was difficult. It was the most difficult film I?ve ever done. You?ll see, when you see the film?the endurance that we all had to have is very much up on the screen. The hardest thing for me was getting in and out of frozen rivers. Because I had elk skin on and a bear fur that weighed about 100 pounds when it got wet. And every day it was a challenge not to get hypothermia.?
Brushes with death: ?My friends have named me the person they least want to do extreme adventures with, because I always seem to be very close to being part of a disaster. If a cat has nine lives, I think I?ve used a few. I mean, there was the shark incident ?A great white jumped into my cage when I was diving in South Africa. Half its body was in the cage, and it was snapping at me??
The time a plane engine blew up: ?Then there was this Delta Airlines flight to Russia. I was in business class, and an engine blew up in front of my eyes. It was right after ?Sully? Sullenberger landed in the Hudson. I was sitting there looking out at the wing, and the entire wing exploded in a fireball. I was the only one looking out at the moment this giant turbine exploded like a comet. It was crazy. They shut all the engines off for a couple of minutes, so you?re just sitting there gliding with absolutely no sound, and nobody in the plane was saying anything. It was a surreal experience. They started the engines back up, and we did an emergency landing at JFK.
How he handles his fame: ?You know, the truth is, it?s very surreal. I don?t think anyone really gets used to being recognized around the world. It kind of feels like a videogame at times, especially with paparazzi and people following you and things of that nature. But it?s part of who I am now. It?s part of my life as long as I choose to do what I do as a profession, and I love what I do. I think I survive because I don?t limit myself. If there?s some experience I want to have or a place I want to go, I do it. I think that?s how I bring some semblance of normality to my life.?
Who we should be listening to about environmental issues: ?Look, not to get political, but listening to Bernie Sanders at that first presidential debate was pretty inspiring?to hear what he said about the environment. Who knows which candidate is going to become our next president, but we need to create a dialogue about it. I mean, when they asked each of the candidates what the most important issue facing our planet is, Bernie Sanders simply said climate change. To me that?s inspiring.
[From Wired]
There?s also a story about how he was skydiving and the parachute was knotted up and he almost died. It sounds like Leo is something of a Calamity Jane, mostly when he?s on vacation, although after hearing all of the crap that went on during filming of The Revenant, maybe Leo is simply a real-life harbinger of doom/death/shenanigans. Still, the main point of this piece is that Leo is very many and he?s almost died many times and he suffers for his art and he?s not always going to be around, so why not give him the Oscar this time?

| Leo DiCaprio signs on to play possibly the biggest Oscar-bait role in history | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Do you think Leonardo DiCaprio really cares about winning an Oscar? That?s a real question that I?ve debated with myself a few times. On one side, I don?t think Leo has any interest in shilling his way through a major Oscar campaign. He?s already Leo, you know? Why would he beg for it? He hasn?t had to beg for anything in more than a decade. But on the other side, yes, I think Leo probably does feel the Sting every now and then, that he was snubbed for an Oscar nomination for Titanic (not to mention The Departed, which was one of my favorite Leo performances) and that he?s received four acting nominations throughout his career and it?s always someone else?s ?turn.? So maybe that?s why Leo has signed on to a film that seems like the biggest Oscar-bait that was ever baited: he will be playing a real man with multiple personality disorder. Leo will be playing 24 different characters all in one character.
Leonardo DiCaprio is getting closer to playing a role he’s eyed for nearly 20 years ? that of Billy Milligan, who was the first person to successfully use multiple personality disorder as a defense in a court of law.
DiCaprio’s Appian Way has come aboard to produce The Crowded Room with New Regency, while Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg have been hired to write the adapted script. The Crowded Room has been set up at New Regency for years, but never got off the ground (the project has been dormant for a decade). Smilovic’s hire gives renewed life to the adaptation of Daniel Keyes’ nonfiction tome about Milligan, who had 24 personalities. DiCaprio has been interested in playing him stretching back to 1997.
Published in 1981, Keyes’ book chronicles Milligan’s story, including his court trial in the late 1970s in Ohio after being charged with robbery and raping three women on the Ohio State University campus.
In the preparation of his defense, Milligan ? who died in December 2014 ? was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. Pleading insanity, he and his lawyers contended that two of his alternate personalities committed the crimes without his knowledge. He was the first to use this defense, and the first to be acquitted for this reason. Milligan’s various personalities included Adalana, a lesbian taking responsibility for the rapes; Ragen, a Yugoslavian communist who admitted to the robbery; and Arthur, an uptight Englishman.
Hollywood has long wanted to bring Milligan’s story to the big screen. High-profile directors who previously circled the project include James Cameron.
[From THR]
I can already see one problem with a potential Oscar campaign: Leo will be playing someone who committed violent crimes against women, women who are presumably still alive. The film will be seen as glorifying an admitted rapist. That?s just a preview of what the other Best Actor Oscar nominees will be saying when they?re up against Leo. But yes, this part sounds like one of the biggest Oscar-bait roles in history. Leo just needs to work it out so one personality is in a wheelchair, one personality has a speech impediment, one personality has an incurable disease, one personality is a monarch or despot, etc. Just throw in every award-winning character trope into one character. Leo?s going to produce this as well, which means he?ll have a lot of control over the direction of the script.

| Leo DiCaprio totally ignored Toni Garrn's efforts to party-stalk him in Miami | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Here are some photos of Leonardo DiCaprio out and about in Miami on Friday. He?s in Miami for Art Basel, obviously. I?m also including some new photos of Toni Garrn leaving Miami yesterday. I didn?t even realize she was in Miami? because she hasn?t been spending any time with her ?boyfriend? Leo. This isn?t really surprising ? Toni and Leo have always seemed to have a very ?open? relationship or maybe they just breakup and makeup a lot. While ?with? Toni, Leo has been seen partying with tons of random ladies, you know?
Well, the NYDN?s gossip people have been all over Leo-Girlfriend Watch 2014. I don?t really understand why it?s so important that we nail down this info, you know? It?s not like Leo and Toni were the greatest love story of our time. It?s not like Leo is a monk when Toni isn?t around. First, the NYDN notes that in all of the days and nights that Leo has been in Miami, he and Toni have not been seen together one time. But not for lack of trying on Toni?s part:
Both Leo and Garrn are in Miami for Art Basel, but have failed to show at any events or parties as a couple. The ?Wolf of Wall Street? star instead is hanging with his boy posse, including Tobey Maguire and Lukas Haas. But that?s not stopping supermodel Garrn from chasing Leo around the famed art fair while he leads her on a wild goose chase, says our second insider.
?Toni cancels her RSVPs once she finds out where Leo is, just to go where he is. But they broke up, then they were together, now they aren?t officially back together either,? says our source. ?He?s been partying and dancing with a few other ladies at night and not being with Toni.?
DiCaprio, an art buff, is in South Beach perusing works by famed artists. He scooped up a $1 million 1973 piece by Frank Stella from Marianne Boesky?s gallery.
The actor, sporting a scruffy beard and a newsboy cap pulled over his eyes, also hit the second annual Women in Art Benefit hosted by Nicole Ehrlich and Up & Down with his crew, including Maguire and 1Oak owners Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano, sans Garrn. DiCaprio was overly enthusiastic at the racy Queen of the Night?s performance at the Miami pop-up space of Meatpacking District club Up & Down.
?He (Leo) was trying to outshine the show?s stars by starting a loud chorus of ?oooohs? and ?aaaaahs? during one of the scenes, while Usher looked on, possibly contemplating joining the performance,? one eyewitness tells us.
While the rowdy DiCaprio hasn?t been spotted with his former flame since arriving in Miami, the two have been in an occasional relationship for nearly two years. And Garrn still hopes to patch things up with the A-lister while in Miami.
?Toni continues to RSVP to the top events, only to cancel at the last minute when her former beau is at something better,? says our source. A rep for DiCaprio had no comment.
[From the NYDN]
Oh, Toni. Girl, get it together! Or just take the hint ? there?s no need to CHASE Leo around Miami. Maybe that?s why she packed her bags and left Miami yesterday. Or maybe she was just trying to smoke ?em out! I have no idea ? but the NYDN says that Leo was back on the party circuit again last night. He and his boys (plus a Jonas Brother) hit up 1Oak in South Beach and one eyewitness says Leo ?left with 20 girls. Leo and 20 girls. He is my hero. He was overflowing with models everywhere. The Jonas brother looked scared, like he was going to drown and suffocate in the women. His face was hilarious.? Granted, I have no idea about any of the hedonistic pleasures Leo partakes in, but what in the world would he do with 20 women? He can?t sleep with all of them, you know?

| Leo DiCaprio celebrated his 40th b-day party with d-bag bros & '80% models' | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Leonardo DiCaprio turned 40 years old this week (on Tuesday, actually). He celebrated like any 40 year old hedonist would, with a three-day, multi-city party with all of his bros and lots and lots of early-20-something ?models?. Page Six says that at the Soho House party on Tuesday night, Leo partied with ?Lukas Haas, Tyrese, Adam Levine, Russell Simmons, Robin Thicke and night-life guru Richie Akiva, followed by a wild party at a private mansion.? TMZ noted that while Leo had his closest bros with him (Robin Thicke?!), the party was ?80% models?. And Toni Garrn was nowhere to be seen ? she was in Berlin for work. Further evidence that they already broke up, I think. E! News had more (it?s mostly about food, which is my favorite part of any story).
Leonardo DiCaprio danced the night away with almost 100 of his closest friends at his 40th birthday bash at the Soho House in Los Angeles. Several of the actor’s famous pals joined in on the private festivities, including Jonah Hill, Tobey McGuire, Kevin Connolly, Emilie Hirsh, Adam Levine, Tyrese, Russell Simmons and Robin Thicke.
The entire members’ only club was rented out for the evening affair, and guests snacked on hors d’oeuvres like mini crab cake burgers, tuna tartar bites, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies throughout the night.
The birthday boy didn’t make a huge splash when he arrived around 11 p.m., and made sure to socialize with all the guests in the main room. One insider explained how the scene was inside DiCaprio’s party, calling it “rather intimate despite its high energy.”
But there was one person noticeably absent from DiCaprio’s soiree: his model girlfriend, Toni Garrn. According to her Instagram, and our insider, the stunning blonde is currently in Berlin for work and was unable to make her beau’s party. But that didn’t seem to put a damper on the guests as they were all dancing to oldies and “jamming out.”
Partygoers didn’t sing “Happy Birthday” to the beloved actor, nor did they have a cake, but several lucky pals headed to an after party at a private residence after the scene at Soho house died down. And as if two gatherings weren’t enough, we’re told that DiCaprio held a get-together at his home in Los Angeles over the weekend as well. Happy birthday, Leo!
[From E! News]
NO CAKE?! I think for the bigger milestone birthdays especially, you should have a friggin? cake. Although the ?freshly baked chocolate chip cookies? would have been awesome too. I wonder how many of those models got some Leo Love on his birthday? I wonder if it went down at the Soho House?
Apparently, there were more parties last night, and Leo will have another party at 1Oak tonight. Just FYI.

| Leonardo DiCaprio looks rough at the Oceana summer party: would you hit it? | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This is what a summer full of partying does to your face, people. This is public service announcement from Leonardo DiCaprio. When you are in your teens and 20s, you can party through the whole summer and come out of it looking pretty much the same. But when you?re looking 40 in the face (he turns 40 in November), you can?t party your ass off the entire summer and expect to look anything other than haggard. Anyway, these are photos of Leo at the Oceana SeaChange Summer party in LA on Saturday night. Leo wore a nice suit and sneakers.
Whenever I?ve seen photos of Leo?s messy appearance over the past few months, all I can think about is how he could easily play a young Rasputin. Leo was actually closely tied to a Rasputin film last year but I don?t know what?s happening with it at this point. I think Leo?s current look is for The Revenant, which is in pre-production now (and it?s the only upcoming production listed on his IMDB). Still, if this is Leo?s wild-eyed, crazy-mystic-who-wouldn?t-die look, it?s pretty solid.
Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Leonardo, Tobey Maguire and Tom Hardy are going to star together in an anti-poaching film. It?s a while away though ? they?ve only just hired a writer. The film will allegedly be like Traffic, in that it will be an examination of all of the different parts and people involved with poaching and trafficking of black-market animals.
PS? I do sort of love his chignon though.
