During the Cannes Film Festival, Andie MacDowell walked several red carpets and ended up debuting her full mane of curly grey hair. She?s 63 years old and she had been dyeing her hair various shades of brown for years. As someone who had a lot of grey in my 20s and 30s, I?m still not in a place emotionally or psychologically to go grey or go natural. I need to dye my hair right now, at my age. But sure, I hope when I?m in my 60s, I will feel fine with letting my grey hair fly, natural and free. It?s different for actresses and public figures though, and Andie apparently got a lot of push-back from her team when she wanted to go grey. She spoke to Vogue about all of it (you can read the piece here). Some highlights:
Why she chose to go grey: ?At the very beginning of quarantine, my hair started growing and every time my kids would see me, they kept telling me I looked badass with my gray hair. When I pulled it up in a bun, all you could see was the salt and pepper, which is what I am, you know, dark and silver. I like to compare myself to George Clooney because why not? I?ve been saying for a while now it was time for me, personally, to make that transition because I felt like it was appropriate for my personality and just who I am.
She got pushback from her team: ?During lockdown, I had a lot of downtime and became obsessed with Jack Martin, who did Jane Fonda?s hair. I shared those pictures with a lot of people going, ?Hey, I want to do this.? I got a job and very quickly I had to make up my mind about what I was going to do. My managers had actually said to me, ?It?s not time.? And I said, ?I think you?re wrong, and I?m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now. It?s time because in two years I?m going to be 65. If I don?t do it now, I won?t have the chance to be salt and pepper. I always wanted to be salt and pepper!?
She had apprehensions: ?At first. I was so cautious because I didn?t want anybody to be upset, and I was trying to figure out how I could wear wigs to please people. But then once I did it, it was just so clear to me that my instincts were right because I?ve never felt more powerful. I feel more honest. I feel like I?m not pretending. I feel like I?m embracing right where I am. I feel really comfortable. And in a lot of ways, I think it?s more striking on my face. I just feel like it suits me.
The products she?s trying: ?You have to use a lot of silver-hair-color products. I cautiously use purple shampoos on my hair because they?re drying. I use a lot more products that boost color, like foams or purple conditioners. I use a lot of purple conditioners to make it look silver, and it?s amazing how they work. I love L?Oreal?s different purple products.
She wants to work, just with silver hair: ?In terms of opportunities for work, I think it?s more interesting to see me like this. I suffered in this business as an actress, with people always wanting me to look younger. For me, it kind of hurts my heart that I can?t embrace where I am because honestly I feel like I am enough right where I am. I?m in great shape. I exercise all the time. I can pretty much keep up with the kids. I feel valuable where I am. I don?t want people to have the expectation that I need to look younger to have value or to be beautiful or desirable. We don?t do that to men! We love an older man. We love men as they age. I would love the same expectation for women, and we?re getting thereyou know, baby steps.
[From Vogue]
Something I think about too much is how many older women in media feel the need to dye their hair. Legitimate journalists who know that their jobs are on the line if they go grey. They know they won?t be allowed on camera anymore. I imagine it?s the same for actresses too once they go grey, they know they won?t work as much, or that they?ll just get drastically different roles. The prejudice against women going grey is very real.
Sidenote: I feel like this is very nitpicky about Andie and her appearance, but I have to say it. She needs to change her makeup now that she?s gone grey. Her coloring is different and now her makeup needs to change too.

| Andie MacDowell: Margaret Qualley & Pete Davidson 'have a beautiful relationship' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Andie MacDowell was a model before she transitioned into acting, and she?s still so gorgeous, right? It?s the same way with her daughter Margaret Qualley she was a dancer and model before she went all-in on acting. Margaret is 24 years old and she?s getting a lot of hype these days personally, I loved her in Fosse/Verdon, and it wouldn?t surprise me at all if she got tons of scripts off of that supporting performance. But Margaret is also getting a lot of attention these days because she?s dating Pete Davidson, who is a gossip main-stay because of his relationships with Ariana Grande and Kate Beckinsale. I have concerns about Margaret and Pete. But Andie does not. Andie thinks they?re just fine.
Andie MacDowell is all for her daughter Margaret Qualley?s blossoming new romance with Pete Davidson. At the L?Oreal fashion show in Paris on Saturday, MacDowell, 61, told PEOPLE she and the Saturday Night Live comedian ?haven?t met? yet.
?I FaceTimed with Pete the other day or no, she took a video of me to send to Pete that?s what it was,? she said. ?She has a beautiful relationship with him but I don?t want to step on her relationship too much,? the mother of three shared, adding, ?They have a nice relationship.?
Qualley, 24, is the youngest of MacDowell?s three children with ex-husband Paul Qualley. The pair, who split in 1999, also shares son Justin, 33, and daughter Rainey, 29.
[From People]
I think that?s fair Margaret is 24, not 16. She?s living her own life and she doesn?t have to introduce every boyfriend to mom. But I do find it interesting that Margaret hasn?t introduced Pete to her mom yet. I suspect that maybe Pete isn?t the ideal boyfriend candidate, and Margaret knows it? Anyway, Andie is doing the right thing: just be supportive and positive and if/when the sh-t blows up, it won?t be because of Andie?s interference.

| Andie MacDowell on men's bad behavior: 'I?m so trained to be submissive' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Andie MacDowell, 61, has a new interview with Jezebel to promote her role in the underappreciated horror movie Ready or Not. She plays the snobby rich mom to a young man who brings his bride-to-be home for a violent vetting process that?s family tradition. I say it?s underappreciated but I haven?t seen it yet, I?ve only seen the trailer and positive reviews. I put Andie?s age right in the opener because she?s one of those actresses I keep thinking is at least 5 to 10 years younger, no matter how many times I look up her age.
Her Jezebel interview is just three minutes long but it?s full of great quotes. She talks about ageism in her industry, about MeToo, and about how she?s been conditioned to just accept men?s bad behavior. Heres what she said and you can see the video here.
When I was in my 30s I had projects coming to me. Now I?m just hoping to find a project. Every once in a while a miracle happens. Most roles are written around 30 year-olds. They don?t explore the life of mature people. We?re somebody?s mother or grandmother. Every once in a while we get lucky and we?re an interesting mother or grandmother.
Every journalist asked me ?How does it feel to turn 40 and know you?re not going to work anymore.? It?s the same thing as when Hillary was talking about running and everyone was saying ?Are we ready for a woman president??
Me Too and Times Up has changed a lot of things. People are starting to think before they behave. It?s also a personal level what I?ve had to accept. I?m so used to being treated a certain way, my time period, where I come from, I?ve accepted certain behaviors that it?s hard to remember I can stand up for myself.
It?s hard to react appropriately because I?m so trained to be submissive and polite.
[From video on Jezebel]
I like what she said about having trouble responding to men?s bad behavior because we?re trained from a young age to be nice. I especially like how she phrased her response, because it?s completely appropriate to call men out. My aunt?s ex husband was telling my mom at a wedding how beautiful I was and I told him it was creepy. My mom kind of kicked me to shut up but it was creepy! He was saying it lasciviously. Say I?m a lovely young woman (I know I?m not that young) or I turned out great or something vague, don?t comment on my looks like you?re attracted to me. Thats gross from anyone but especially someone who is practically family. Men suck. (Not all men, yada yada.)
Andie MacDowell has always been one of my favorites and I?ll watch anything she?s in. I especially love her voice. Take note casting directors.

| Andie MacDowell 'had to learn to be an independent woman' when her kids left home | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I am someone who stresses out when anyone or anything is dependent on me. Like, I sometimes feel like it?s a hell of a lot of work to just take care of myself and one cat. There?s just so much to remember grocery shopping, cleaning, feeding the cat, doing laundry, paying bills, and working this job. That?s part of the reason why I felt like I was in emotional tailspin when my mom was in the hospital it was A LOT. Right now, I?m taking care of one of her cats so now I have two furry housemates and myself to take care of. And honestly, my life feels really full as it is. I guess I?m just missing the gene where I would want anyone or anything else to be dependent on me. But so many people love that feeling, love being caretakers, love having a house full of kids and I?m just like? nope, not for me. Anyway, I was thinking about all of this as I read this Andie MacDowell interview where she talks about being a divorced empty-nester:
Andie MacDowell is the first to admit that adjusting to an empty nest once her kids left home was not an easy transition. ?It was shocking to me because I was so dependent on them filling my home. At first it was hard,? the actress, 61, tells PEOPLE. ?I have this conversation with a lot of mothers who are really tight with their children and have so much pleasure and joy from caretaking. I had to learn to be an independent woman.?
MacDowell, who is now starring in her first horror film Ready or Not, remains close to her children, with ex- husband model Paul Qualley: Justin, 33, a real estate agent; Rainey, 29, a singer and actress; and Margaret, 24, who stars with Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time?.?.?.?in Hollywood. But MacDowell says after about a year, she began to adjust to the new family dynamic and learned to enjoy it.
?I started liking it. So much so that I?m not really looking for anyone. I mean, if someone came into my life, I would be pleasantly surprised. I would be like, ?Wow, isn?t this fantastic?? But I?ve learned how to tap into friends, peace and quiet, and do whatever I want to do whenever I want to,? she says.
MacDowell says despite all her movie success, it?s her children that make her most proud of and she?s glad they?ve become strong and independent people. ?Once they?re older, you then have to learn to let go. I?ve done my job and I?ve done my job well because my kids are all making their own choices for themselves and developing into the people that they?re supposed to be,? she says. ?The most important thing that you will teach your children is to be independent.?
[From People]
She?s where I am, and I don?t have the ex-husband or the grown children. Like, it?s awesome to just take care of myself. I don?t need anyone else putting demanding on me emotionally or psychologically. Just let me do my own thing! But yeah, she sounds like an empty-nester who had to re-learn how to be alone, and once she re-learned it, she loves it.

| ?Four Weddings and a Funeral' remake casts Andie MacDowell in nod to original | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I owned Four Weddings and a Funeral on VHS and its one of those rare films Ive seen over a dozen times. (Four Weddings, Sense and Sensibility and Jerry Maguire are my 90s favorites.) We heard earlier this year that Mindy Kaling was working on a Four Weddings and a Funeral remake for Hulu and theres casting news. The original movies star, Andie MacDowell, is going to have a secondary role in a nod to the original. Shes not playing her character in the 1994 film, the American Carrie, though. It sounds like the remake just uses the films original premise as a jumping-off point for new characters and stories. Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones will star, and she is replacing another actress, Jessica Williams. It also stars Rebecca Rittenhouse, John Paul Reynolds, and Brandon Mychal Smith.
Hulu?s Four Weddings and a Funeral, from MGM Television and Universal TV, with MGM serving as the lead studio, revolves around four American friends ? Maya (Emmanuel), Craig (Smith), Ainsley (Rittenhouse) and Duffy (Reynolds) ? who reunite for a fabulous London wedding. But after a bombshell at the altar throws their lives into turmoil, they must weather a tumultuous year of romance and heartbreak. Relationships are forged and broken, political scandals exposed, London social life lampooned, love affairs ignited and doused, and of course, there are four weddings? and a funeral.
MacDowell will play Mrs. Howard, Ainsley?s (Rittenhouse) mother. Her casting is a nod to the series? origins and provides a link to the 1990s classic, written by Richard Curtis and directed by Mike Newell, in which MacDowell starred opposite Hugh Grant.
Boyle will play Gemma, Jacques has been cast as Zara, Patel will play Haroon, and Khan will be Basheer.
[From Deadline]
Andie MacDowell isnt the most spectacular actress, but theres something so compelling about her and Im happy to see her in the spotlight again. Earlier this year I covered a couple of interviews she gave which were just so candid and thoughtful. Im a real fan of hers. As for this Four Weddings remake, Im totally watching it. I think if anyone can do the original justice with new storylines its Kaling. Plus Hulu puts out some incredible original series that dont get enough recognition.

I love Andie MacDowell and one of my favorite things about her has been the fact that she looks so naturally beautiful. She’s gorgeous, she seems down-to-earth when I’ve seen her interviewed, and because she seems all natural she’s the perfect spokeswoman for L’oreal. It makes me sad, then, to see her looking all shiny and pulled at the L’oreal Legends Gala last night.
Keep in mind, though, that Andie MacDowell is fifty freaking three years old! I thought she was a hot looking 45, honestly, and I’ve covered her several times here and still had to look up her age. Some of you are going to yell at me and tell me she’s not getting anything done since she has some natural crow’s feet. She looks very waxy and fake to me, and like she’s trying to smile and can only wince. Whatever she’s doing, she hasn’t gone overboard yet and it’s possible the fillers or Botox she’s using will settle. For comparison here are two earlier photos of her. She looks different now, doesn’t she? Also, she’s shown below with her 16 year-old daughter, Sarah Margaret, she’s so pretty!
Oh and in terms of the fashion - both Andie and her daughter’s dresses are lovely. I really like Andie’s full length sparkling v-neck dress. Her daughter’s light blue chiffon gown has a subtle lace panel on the skirt and bow detail at the bodice. It’s very elegant yet sweet and age-appropriate. Sarah is going to be a stunner.
Andie In March, 2011:
In April, 2010:
Speaking of waxy, here’s Julianna Margulies in red. Her dress is ok. I don’t particularly like the way it’s draped but it’s not bad. Those shoes look orthopedic though! From the side they’re prettier with the heel, but from the front they look like sandals you’d wear around the house.
Kerry Washington wore a very ugly loose bronze dress that did nothing for her gorgeous figure. The cut is bizarre and it has some sort of scarf thing trailing down the back. I like her stacked necklaces and matching earrings though.
This woman Aimee Mullins is a double amputee and an accomplished athlete. But I have to point out that she has Wilma Flintstone hair. That dress looks like it could be a Halloween costume too.
Taraji P. Henson was so hot in form fitting blue. The shoes don’t seem to go with that dress, but I’ll overlook it.
Kelly Rutherford really bugs me for some reason. I can’t explain it really. This dress squashes her boobs and she needs to fill in those eyebrows. Looks like she filled in her cheeks pretty well.
Michael Michele is recognizable to me, but I can’t remember where I’ve seen her. IMDB reminds me that she was on “Homicide” and “ER.” She really owned the red carpet in that teal one shoulder dress. Her feet look like they’re hanging out of her shoes though. She’s another one that looks Botoxy to me. They pretty much all do. Maybe Andie MacDowell really is natural-looking - in comparison.

Andie MacDowell
Stepping out for a special event, Andie MacDowell was spotted at Day 2 of the L?Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday (March 15).
The ?Four Weddings and a Funeral? actress dazzled in a dark purple gown and heels as she posed for pictures outside Central Pier Docklands before disappearing inside for the swanky soiree.
While visiting the Land Down Under, the brunette beauty told press, ?I went to Scanlan & Theodore and I bought a sweater and another simple top.?
MacDowell added that she?s also interested in soaking up some culture, along with a landscape photography exhibition at the NGV.

In what little I’ve seen lately of lovely American actress Andie MacDowell, 52, I’ve found her incredibly down to earth and likable. The last time we reported on her, in October, she was upbeat but realistic about her career as an actress in which she’s no longer in high demand. At that time she was filming two Lifetime movies, and she said that she was just happy to keep working and that she wasn’t picky about roles. She said, “I?m 51 and I have no shame about that whatsoever and I?m really comfortable in my skin… I may not be the lead or I may not get the starring roles that I used to because so many movies revolve around youth, but I refuse to go away because I enjoy it.” It doesn’t hurt that MacDowell, the face of L’Oreal for over 25 years, is strikingly beautiful yet hasn’t had any obvious work done. If she gets Botox or Restylane you can barely tell and it’s just the right amount.
The May issue of Prevention features an interview with MacDowell, and she sounds just as upfront and realistic as she has in the past. MacDowell also reveals her weight! She’s 5?8? tall and 137-138 pounds, which is incredibly fit and healthy without being too skinny. I admire that she gave her exact number, because that requires real confidence. In an industry when women are taught that they have to be super thin, she shows that you can be fit and proud without starving yourself.
When you were a young model, in an industry not known for positive body images, did you ever have problems with weight?
There was a time when someone complained to my agency that I was overweight. It was after I’d been in New York for a few years, and I was trying to figure out how to maintain my weight. I was 132 pounds then, and I’m 5-foot-8 - and still eat healthy and exercise. So I said, “Tell them not to book me. This is the best I can do.” And shortly after, I got Calvin Klein commercials and a movie, so it didn’t stop me.
You still look model weight to me
Right now I’m about 137 to 138 pounds and I feel pretty good about it. Also, as soon as you get older, your face starts o look drawn - that’s why I think I’m better off with those 5 extra pounds.
Do you have a guilty pleasure when it comes to food?
Well, it’s not a guilty thing - I really do think that chocolate is good for you. And it’s better to eat that than to not have anything. That’s when you end up eating too much - when you feel deprived.
[From Prevention, print edition, May, 2010]
It’s so rare for actresses to reveal their actual weights! I can only remember two other actresses doing this recently: Jenny McCarthy (5?6? and 125 pounds) and Kirstie Alley, who did it in a roundabout way through her show and a subsequent appearance on Oprah. (5?7? and 210 pounds a few weeks ago.)
To keep fit, MacDowell says she does all kind of yoga and enjoys hiking and mountain climbing. She says she strives to ask herself “Do I feel healthy because I’m strong? Are my shoulders back? Can I be happy?” I love how she focuses on her health and says that she doesn’t consider chocolate a guilty pleasure! MacDowell should be a real example to certain older celebrities who continue to diet and exercise themselves into oblivion and then try and cover it up with chipmunk cheek implants and injectable fillers - Madonna, I’m looking at you.

Model and actress Andie MacDowell, 51, had a string of hits in the late 80s and early 90s with films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Groundhog Day, and Green Card. MacDowell now does ads for L’Oreal and is working on two Lifetime movies based on Patricia Cornwell books. She tells Fox News in a recent interview that she realizes that the roles she’s taking aren’t as prestigious as they used to be, but says she’s happy to continue working and enjoys acting. I’ve always liked Andie MacDowell and found her kind of endearing, and these quotes just confirm that for me. MacDowell also reveals that she has to get nude for one of her upcoming movies. She says she was nervous about it, but it sounds like she just bit the bullet and did it.
MacDowell has given a couple of other interviews this year in which she’s talked about her experience getting work as she gets older. She said this summer that it’s different to get roles in your 40s, but that once you hit 50 there are more roles for older woman and that she’s just grateful to act. She said in a mildly conflicting interview this spring that things are opening up for older actresses and that “women are finally able to get older and be sexy just like men.” It sounds like she’s getting sexy for this film, that’s for sure:
“I play a real bi**h, I was a narcissistic sex addict and had to sleep with young men,” MacDowell told Tarts as L?Oreal Paris (for which she is an ambassador) received a Friend of the Walk of Fame in Hollywood on Tuesday. “But it was embarrassing because I?m pretty shy and yet I had to look at myself in the mirror and take my clothes off ?”
But one thing Ms MacDowell isn?t “embarrassed” about is her age and unrelenting determination to get work in an industry centered on juvenescence.
“We live in a society that sees getting older in a certain way, but I keep trying to tell myself of my value and my worth. I?m really comfortable with my age, I?m 51 and I have no shame about that whatsoever and I?m really comfortable in my skin,” she said. “I take really good care of myself and I insist to not go away. I want to work because it brings me a sense of self worth and dignity, I like my job. I may not be the lead or I may not get the starring roles that I used to because so many movies revolve around youth, but I refuse to go away because I enjoy it. I always find a way to get work. It may not be the best parts I used to get or it may not be as easy, but I?m still here.”
And although she?s past the half-a-century mark, MacDowell still manages to look au natural and stunning - so L?Oreal products aside, what?s her secret?
“Drinking a lot of water, getting enough sleep and doing yoga - but I really think it is acceptance. We all get older so I?m celebrating it,” she added. “Wonderful things happen when you turn 50, you change perspective. You ask, ?who am I? What do I want to do with my life? What have I not done that I want to do?? I feel like I?m enjoying life more, it?s not so much about pleasing other people. I feel like I?ve had so many successes on so many levels even if it is just my relationships with my friends.”
[From Fox News]
MacDowell has been married twice and has three children from her first marriage. She’s now single after divorcing her second husband, an Atlanta businessman, in 2004. That’s probably what she’s vaguely referring to when she says “I feel like I?ve had so many successes on so many levels even if it is just my relationships with my friends.” She’s always lovely and perfect-looking as the face of L’Oreal, but as you can see she hasn’t opted for as much plastic surgery or botox jabs as the flawless ads would make you believe. That just makes her all the more beautiful when you see a real photo of her.
