Charlize Theron is more interesting than people give her credit for. I?ve even fallen into that trap of thinking she was pretty boring and bland, but when she sits down for an in-depth interview, she?s actually quite witty and funny. Such is the case for the cover interview for September?s Vogue Magazine. First, the cover shot - I like it. It?s not overdone, it?s not over-styled. Just a beautiful woman in what looks like an interesting, pretty dress that compliments her. Maybe it?s not high fashion, but it looks good. Inside, the photo spread is set at Georgia O?Keefe?s desert Ghost Ranch, and several of the photos contain familiar homages to O?Keefe, like cow skulls and desert flowers. Charlize looks regal and lovely.
As for the interview, most of it is about Charlize?s work, both past and present. Unfortunately, she doesn?t talk that much about Stuart Townsend, her lover of nine years. The whole piece is worth a read, but here are some of the best parts:
On ?mystery?: ?I feel like I always reveal too much?There’s something sexy about the mystery. I don’t know how to play that card, though.”
On nude scenes: “That isn’t about me. I don’t look at the movie and go, ‘Jesus, my ass is really saggy’.?
On children: “I just know I’m going to have five boys.”
On the old gay rumors: “I cut my hair really short in my 20s, and people were like, ‘Hmm, wait a second. Is she gay???
On long-time love Suart Townsend: When she gets a call from Stuart Townsend, the Irish actor to whom she is famously not married (”We’ve been together for almost nine years, so by now we’ve kind of realized that we’re going to take this journey together”), she teases him about never drinking at lunch. She listens, laughs, and interrupts their conversation. “He’s like, ‘I don’t drink much, but when I drink, I drink a lot.’” She returns to him and says, “Keep that Irish thing going.”
Charlize?s Africa Outreach project: The project focuses on equipping trailers with computers and mobile health clinics, which then travel continuously through remote parts of South Africa, where teenagers have a nearly 50 percent chance of contracting HIV during their lifetime.
Fall films: In October, Theron plays “Wife” in the long-awaited film version of The Road, based on Cormac McCarthy’s best seller about a father and son struggling to survive after an unexplained apocalypse. Her role took three days to shoot, she says, and the character dies soon after the off-screen Armageddon, but she appears throughout the film, in flashbacks, an involuntary vision of beauty and the impossibility of hope. And this month she stars in The Burning Plain as Sylvia, a sexual compulsive whose secrets lie at the heart of a multigenerational love story. The story takes place on both sides of the Mexican-U.S. border, and the production reflected that: The Mexican director, Guillermo Arriaga, who also wrote Babel, conceived of the movie with Theron in mind; she helped produce it.
On her mother killing Charlize?s abusive, alcoholic father: “My trauma? That became like my f-cking tattoo.?
Charlize?s fears: She’s afraid of flying… She’s afraid of growing old and being alone. She’s afraid of insulting people. She feels like she’s shadowed constantly by a sense of remorse for some inappropriate thing she’s just said. (”People tell me that cocaine makes you feel superhuman and you’ll say anything. Then when you come down like all of a sudden you have guilt,” she says. “But I have that feeling innately, even without the cocaine.”)

Last month, there were several reports that had Charlize being hospitalized for something severe. Many claimed she was suffering ?severe abdominal pains? and had caught some sort of intense virus. Others claimed she had a case of food poisoning. The incident goes unmentioned in the Vogue interview, either because it never happened, or it did happen, but just after the interview took place. In any case, it seems like whatever she was going through is over and she?s fine. As far as her upcoming films go - well, I don?t really want to see either of them. They sound totally depressing. Would it kill her to do a rom-com?

Maintaining her fantastic physical form, Charlize Theron was spotted on her way to a gym in West Hollywood yesterday afternoon (July 29).
The “Italian Job” hottie was joined by a gal pal, and looked sporty sexy in a screenprinted tank top with stretch Capri shorts and sneakers.
Up ahead for Miss Theron is a new political satire film called “Florence of Arabia,” based on a 2004 novel of the same name.
In the flick, Charlize plays Florence Farfaletti, a beautiful government employee who carries the “unwieldy title of Deputy to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near East Affairs.” According to an inside source, the film makes commentary on everything from the US Government to Middle Eastern practices.

Enjoying a little international sporting action while pulling in money for the Africa Outreach Project, Charlize Theron was spotted at the 2009 World Football Challenge in Pasadena, California last night (July 21).
The “Italian Job” babe looked excited as she posed for the paparazzi at the Rose Bowl stadium, sporting a sexy black halter dress with black strappy heels.
Last night Chelsea FC took on Inter Milan’s team in a packed-out evening at the venue. And on July 24th, Chelsea will do battle with Club America.
In addition, Italian powerhouse AC Milan is also in the tournament, which is set up like a round robin to see which of the 4 teams can score the most goals.

Charlize Theron is giving underprivileged South African children a place to play soccer.The Academy Award winner’s Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project is teaming up with LAFC Chelsea Soccer Club in Los Angeles to build community soccer programs. In addition to soccer fields, uniforms and equipment, kids involved in the program will receive health education and services.The project, announced Tuesday, will serve schools in South Africa’s Umkhanyakude District, an area plagued by a high rate of HIV infection. Theron hopes to have the first fields built by the time the World Cup begins next June 11.

Charlize Theron is extending support to an upcoming rally for gay marriage in central California.The actress has joined progressive grassroots organization Courage Campaign to encourage everyone to join her at Meet in the Middle for Equality rally, the event slated for Saturday after the California Supreme Court announces its decision on upholding or overturning the anti-gay marriage measure, Prop. 8.“We know the people whose lives are on the linethose who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgenderwill be there,” E! Online quoted Theron as stating in a letter released by Courage Campaign.“But we need everyone there. Especially straight people. While we don’t know when the Supreme Court will rule exactly, we know it will be within the next four weeks. Californians need to be prepared to commit right now to go to Fresno on the Saturday after the decision is announced, no matter what that decision may be.”“The battle for equality has to be fought in Middle Americain places like Fresno, Californianot just in gay-friendly cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. California?s Central Valley population is far more reflective of national attitudes towards LGBT equalityand until we engage the communities of Middle America, we will not achieve full equality in California,” she added.

Man, Charlize Theron seems more and more hotter to me every time I see her. At the 36th Gala Tribute in New York, Charlize wore a simple black dress, but the actress still looked nice and sexy. I had a major thing for her after the Italian Job, and she was voted sexiest woman alive at least once. That makes it safe to say Charlize Theron will always be incredibly hot!

Charlize Theron is so pro-gay rights, she?s comparing anti-gay-marriage laws and initiatives to apartheid. Charlize, as many know, was born and raised in South Africa during the ?Grand Apartheid?, the last gasp of the white, colonial power?s institutionalized and codified racism and bigotry on the ?native? population.
This isn?t the first time Charlize has spoken out about gays rights in general, or gay marriage rights in particular. She?s one of the most outspoken celebrities speaking out about gay rights, but this is the furthest I?ve ever seen her go. Charlize says ?I don?t like living in an elitist world, it bothers me. I don?t want to be part of an elitist sexual preference. Maybe it?s because I come from a country where I lived under apartheid. This is a form of apartheid and I don?t want to be a part of that.? She might have a point:
South African-born actress Charlize Theron calls US marriage laws ?a form of apartheid?. The Oscar winner and Dior model said, ?I don?t like living in an elitist world, it bothers me. I don?t want to be part of an elitist sexual preference. Maybe it?s because I come from a country where I lived under apartheid. This is a form of apartheid and I don?t want to be a part of that.?
Theron was referring to the ?Grand Apartheid? laws in her native country, which segregated whites and non-whites. The laws prevented non-whites from marrying whites or holding white jobs. Harsh criminal penalties were imposed on civil protestors of the apartheid laws, with thousands of people tortured, sentenced to death, or banished.
The most famous face of apartheid is Nelson Mandela, who received a life sentence for treason but was finally freed in 1990, and went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
Theron has been dating super-hot boyfriend Stuart Townsend for years, and the couple have said in the past that they refused to get married until same-sex marriage was legal in the United States.
?It?s not the reason I?m not getting married but it?s maybe a part of it,? Theron said. ?My ability to get married is a piece of me that I wish I could give to somebody who it would mean so much to. We should all have the chance. It?s just so caveman, I can?t believe we?re still talking about it.?

I really wonder what Nelson Mandela would think of this - comparing his struggle to the gay marriage rights struggle. I support gay marriage rights, but looking at the issue from a purely political stance, I could see how Charlize?s statements could be taken the wrong way, and could end up bothering many people. However, those same people who will be bothered are the same people who are basically telling gays and lesbians that they are less than a heterosexual person, that they don?t deserve the same rights and privileges. You tell people to sit at the back of the bus long enough, someone?s going to call you on it.

I have no idea why Charlize Theron is in the May ‘09 issue of Marie Claire UK. Does she have a new movie coming out or something? I didn’t actually read the article, because all the highlighted bits were about boring shit like what kinds of questions people ask Sean Penn and how women get a raw deal in Hollywood and then a bunch of junk about complex roles and her “craft”, and I fall asleep each and every single time some actressin’ narcissist starts talking about their goddamn craft. You ain’t Monet, honey; let’s not overcomplicate things here.
The hell was my point? I’m actually not sure I had one, aside from the fact that Charlize Theron is unfathomably beautiful, but best enjoyed mute.

A few months ago, there were some rumors about the state of Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend?s relationship. After the initial flurry of gossip, nothing really happened, and it looks like those break-up reports were either false, or the couple weathered whatever minor storm they had. They?ve been together for more than eight years, and Charlize has said several times that they feel like they?re already married, and have no need to make it official. She’s also been vocal of her support for gay marriage, saying that she wouldn?t even consider getting married unless homosexuals could too.
Now Charlize is talking babies. She gave an interview to Marie Claire (quotes via Showbiz Spy), and she?s saying that although she doesn?t feel a biological clock ticking, she and Stuart both want kids. Since she?s been with Stuart, Charlize says ?I don’t feel like I’m in survival mode anymore. I feel like it’s OK, I can breathe, so I’m very grateful to him.? So when can we expect the babies?
Charlize Theron wants to be a mom.
The Battle in Seattle star - who is currently dating Irish actor Stuart Townsend - says she is keen to have a baby, but is no rush to get pregnant.
She tells Marie Claire magazine, “I’ve always known that I wanted to be a mom. I love children. I’ve always loved children. But I’m not like, ‘Oh my god, I really must have kids right now.’ I’ve never felt this pressing urge that some biological clock is ticking. We both want to be parents one day, but I’ve no idea when that will be.?
“Since I’ve been with Stuart, my vulnerability has become something I’m more comfortable with. I think there’s a part of me that is very much a survivor. I don’t know if it was in my genes, I don’t know what it is. But I guess being young and starting out in a sense of, ‘I’m not going to be a wallflower, and I’m not going to be messed with.’ That was the only way I knew how to survive at that time.?
“But all that has changed since I’ve been with Stuart. I don’t feel like I’m in survival mode any more. I feel like it’s OK, I can breathe, so I’m very grateful to him.”

I totally get where Charlize is coming from, especially when she?s talking about her own vulnerability. I?m the same way with a lot of men. I have that self-destructive ?fight or flight? thing that comes up, and I totally mess up relationships because I find it so difficult to be vulnerable. It?s cool that Chalize has found someone who takes her as-is. Stuart?s always seemed like a decent guy, one of those modern men who isn?t intimidated by his girlfriend?s star power, fame, or money. He just seems to love her, and that brings a little tear to my cold, self-destructive heart.
