Yesterday we read an angry missive by Christie Brinkley’s ex husband, Peter Cook, blaming her for a false statement about their divorce, which was not a quote from Christie and was made in an obscure online source which Christie had nothing to do with. The article is poorly worded and reads like it was written by a non-native English speaker. It states that “Brinkley won a large settlement, especially after revelation of Cook?s heavy hand on the three children.” Cook latched on to this, linked the source, and accused Christie of planting it in the media.
In Christie’s People Magazine interview, the only reference she made to Cook was in claiming that her 50s “weren?t easy. I lost both my parents and went through a miserable divorce while trying to be a pillar for my kids.” That’s it, that’s all Christie said, but it was enough to set Cook off on a rant against her, along with that random article. Instead of calming down and realizing that Christie had nothing to do with that other story, Cook doubled-down and had his lawyer attack her in the media. Again, the lawyer accuses Christie of planting that article and confuses it with her People interview, in which she said no such thing. This is just unbelievable to me:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press:
After several years of representing Peter Cook as his attorney on an array of legal issues created mostly by Christie Brinkley?s insatiable need for attention and self justification, I am compelled to write to set the record straight.
Ms. Brinkley latest attack on Mr. Cook, falling on the eve of her 60th birthday celebration, suggests that she won a ?large settlement after revelation of Cook?s heavy hand on the three children?. And PEOPLE magazine celebrates her swimsuit wearing good looks on its cover with an article touting her need to be a ?pillar? for her children after her nasty divorce from Mr. Cook.
If she is the ?pillar? that she claims to be then she will publicly repudiate the false statements that there was a ?large settlement? in her favor and that Mr. Cook ever used a ?heavy hand on the three children.? She should do this for her children?s sake.
I have been representing men and women in divorce proceedings for more than 35 years and have never, I repeat never, witnessed such little regard for the wellbeing of children as evidenced by Ms. Brinkley, beginning when she and her lawyers asked the trial Judge to open the courtroom and permit her to testify about every detail of the parties marital discord in front of scores of reporters, all for the world to witness and her children to experience. Moreover, she insisted on putting in the most personal testimony about her children?s father which was wholly unnecessary because Mr. Cook had already acknowledged his mistakes and consented to the divorce.
But Ms. Brinkley required her pound of flesh even if her children had to be humiliated by the daily reporting of the most personal details of their family life. And the public trial was only the tip of the iceberg. Ms. Brinkley?s public relations people, who have made millions from Ms. Brinkley generous use of them, have relentlessly peppered the media with untrue statements about Mr. Cook from the beginning of the legal difficulties until this very day. Ms. Brinkley herself continues to state publicly, among of things, that Mr. Cook was a ?diagnosed narcissist?, a statement that is completely false and no doubt actionable slander. Of course, Ms. Brinkley herself could be cited by most observers as a pretty good example of a narcissist.
She is willing to hurt her own children because it makes her feel so good to hurt Mr. Cook in every public forum and at every opportunity. To set the record straight, Mr. Cook is a great father. I have personally witnessed his anguish about what his children have gone through. He tries to shield them from the hurt of this personal family tragedy but he is no match for the anger of this very wealthy and scorned woman determined to trash the father of her children at every opportunity.
Ms. Brinkley?s need for revenge knows no bounds. Her subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, message to her children about their father is designed to cause them to question their own reality and the father they know, simply to exact revenge for herself. I have witnessed this behavior in my law practice over 35 years and the harm it has caused thousands of children.
It is shameful.
In the long run, Mr. Cook will be the ?pillar? for his children because he is grounded and real. It is time for Christie Brinkley to stop trashing the father of her children and let them freely appreciate the gifts he has to offer them as a parent.

Both Cook and his lawyer are incapable of actually reading Christie’s People article and seeing that she didn’t trash Cook at all, or realizing that she has nothing to do with something written in “Liberty Voice.” In their argument, Christie is responsible for everything written about her on the Internet, and is supposed to immediately respond to some random journalist’s incorrect statement, in an article riddled with errors, in an online source people have barely heard of. Otherwise she’s a horrible awful person who is attacking her ex. The more I hear from Cook and his hack lawyer, the more I see Christie’s perspective. Just look at how Cook is behaving.
If you’d like to know more about Cook, check out his 20/20 interview following the divorce. He blamed Christie for the fact that he was cheating on her with an 18 year-old girl he hired to work at his architectural firm. He was 49 at the time.

In Christie Brinkley’s “Christie at 60? People cover interview, there was one single sentence that mentioned her ex, Peter Cook. I barely noticed it, but Cook obviously did, and he sent her an angry missive claiming that she was engaged in “revisionist history” and was playing the victim. As background, Brinkley divorced Cook after 12 years of marriage in 2008. At the time, Brinkley allegedly fought to have the divorce proceedings made public, a move many people thought was insensitive to her two teen children with Cook. (Christie has denied that it was her decision to make the trial public and claims that Cook spread that rumor to smear her.) It came out during the divorce that Cook was having an affair with an 18 year-old office assistant, whom he hired. Cook admitted the affair. He was also said to be addicted to online porn and to be spending thousands a month on his habit.
Following the divorce, Cook gave a poor me interview to 20/20 in which he basically blamed Christie for the fact that he was cheating on her with a teenager. He said “I was seeking a connection I could not find in my own marriage… I wanted a little acknowledgement, a little attention.” After that any sliver of sympathy I may have had for the guy vanished.
So what did Christie say in her interview that Cook objected to? She claimed she went through “a miserable divorce,” which is subjective, and that she’s tried to be “a pillar for my kids.” There was no reference in the People article to Christie receiving a settlement in her divorce, or to Cook being possibly abusive to their kids. This is all she said about him.
Christie: “My 50s weren’t easy. I lost both my parents and went through a miserable divorce while trying to be a pillar for my kids. But I made it through. Now I feel on top of my game.”

Cook’s email is responding to something Christie never said
Radar writes that Christie ‘did other interviews which referenced that Brinkley ‘won a large settlement, especially after revelation of Cook?s heavy hand on the three children.’” It’s not true the Christie had anything to do with that inaccurate quote. The only other recent interview I could find with Christie was on Entertainment Tonight, where she talked about possibly dating again and plugged her new hair extensions. She didn’t mention Cook at all.
In fact the source for that quote is an article in Liberty Voice which Cook links in his email rant. It’s not correct that Christie got a settlement, she was ordered to give Cook a settlement, and again, nowhere in the People article or her Entertainment Tonight interviews does it say this. This quote was in a poorly researched article that Christie had nothing to do with.
So how did Cook respond to this? He trashed Christie for saying she was a pillar for her kids, he also blamed her for this incorrect quote and claimed that she was being libelous. If he would have actually read the People article or watched her ET interview, he would have seen that he was only mentioned once when Christie said she went through a bad divorce. Here’s what he wrote:
Christie,Over the last 8 years I have taken a lot of hits by way of your gross exaggerations, revisionist history, and self-serving dishonesty, but nothing could be more egregious than this incontrovertible lie. I let you get away with a lot for the sake our children. When you initially filed for divorce and you attempted to prejudice opinion of me by falsely accusing me of EVER being inappropriate with Sailor was the death knell for me as far as you were concerned. That was the day I took my wedding ring off.
You know I could not love or care for my children more, and that I have NEVER raised my hand to ANYONE, or surely you would not have encourage my adoption of Jack 3-years after we married. That you could so blatantly lie about such a sacred trust to position yourself as a victim once again is disgraceful. I didn?t think you could get any lower in you endeavors to stay relevant in the media than through your relentless trashing of the father of your children, and I don?t care about you or what motivates you to now perpetuate this horrific lie, and then to have your PR team work so diligently to see it is perpetuated throughout all possible media outlets? but I insist that you immediately demand that they work as thoroughly and dilligently to issue YOUR PERSONAL public correction/retraction and demand this libelous content be wiped from the media, immediately.
Nothing could be more upsetting than being falsely accused of being abusive to one?s children, particularly given the irony that the greatest abuse these children have endured is your insistence on publicizing our trial, our divorce these many years later, and making them suffer your need for attention at any and all cost:
?Brinkley won a large settlement, especially after revelation of Cook?s heavy hand on the three children.?
That?s just one of MANY sources carrying your line.
In PEOPLE Magazine you state your ?50?s weren?t easy? because you ??went through a miserable divorce (from architect Peter Cook) while trying TO BE A PILLAR FOR MY KIDS??
There is nothing about YOU FIGHTING and CAMPAIGNING to see our divorce proceedings were publicized, making our private lives media fodder for our children to have to endure for GOOGLE eternity, making false and dishonest statements about the father of your children and making every effort to alienate the children from their father that qualifies you as being a ?pillar? for our children!

Again, this guy is blaming Christie for an article she had nothing to do with, in an obscure source. He even links it. That’s the only place that quote appears prior to this rant he made against it. He obviously didn’t read her full People interview or try to consider anything beyond his rage at seeing his ex doing so well. He then linked two old editorials from 2008 which questioned Christie’s motivations in the divorce. If I wasn’t team Christie before, I firmly am now.

Christie Brinkley is on the cover of the new People Magazine with the lead-in “She’s How Old?” and the title “Christie AT 60!” They promise to give “all her stay-young secrets,” and I was prepared to roll my eyes at the Botox white lies and “I eat whatever I want” tripe that we hear from so many celebrities, but that didn’t happen at all. Christie sounded somewhat honest about all she does to maintain her figure and face, and I came away from the article with more respect for her. It takes a lot of work to look that great, and Christie admits it. Of course it doesn’t hurt that she’s naturally drop dead gorgeous, but Christie will tell you that she uses hair extensions, gets modern dermatological treatments, eats vegan and works out every day. Here’s People’s preview of the article and we’ll have some more quotes in a moment.
On the eve of hitting the big 6-0 on Feb. 2, Brinkley celebrates her birthday ? and her incredible figure! ? by posing in a swimsuit on the cover of this week’s PEOPLE.
“I’m actually excited about turning 60,” Brinkley tells PEOPLE. “I feel on top of my game.”
But not game enough to wear a bikini. “My kids would be so embarrassed!” she says. “In private I may wear a bikini, but at the public beach with my kids I would change bathing suits because they do not want to be hanging out with some old broad in a bikini.”
Others disagree. “She looks phenomenal,” says MJ Day, senior editor for Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue (Sports Illustrated is a sister publication of PEOPLE). “She has the legs of a 30-year-old and the face of an angel. She’s what you aspire to look like at 60. She’s mind-blowingly beautiful.”
In this week’s issue, Brinkley spells out all of her stay-young secrets, from her daily diet to all the beauty tricks to looking half her age.
But after four divorces, including an explosive public divorce trial with architect Peter Cook in 2008, Brinkley credits her three kids ? musician Alexa Ray Joel, 28, college freshman Jack Brinkley-Cook, 18, and up-and-coming model Sailor Brinkley-Cook, 15 ? as her fountain of youth and her motivation to focus on a healthy lifestyle.
“Because I’m an older mom, I have a responsibility to my kids as well as myself,” she says. “I want to be there for them.”

There are some quotes from the print edition that are worth mentioning. Christie says she drinks a glass of wine at night, but that she tries to drink red wine on the advice of Dr. Oz, whom she regularly watches. She also says that she’ll “never say never” to plastic surgery, and admits that she’s had other things done to make her look that great. “I think that there are so many other noninvasive choices that address sagging, winkling and discoloration. I go to my dermatologist about once a month and get special facials. I like modern-technology stuff.” So is she talking about laser resurfacing? I would love to know what she does exactly.
The rest of the article is full of somewhat useful tips like filling in your eyebrows (I do that, it makes a big difference!), exfoliating, and fitting workouts into your day. Christie admits that she even uses pantyhose to get “a sense of security.” You can see on the inside shots of Christie that she’s wearing pantyhose under her bathing suit.
So Christie isn’t made of lies. She was looking very Botoxy for a while, but she’s not denying it, it seems to have settled for her and she definitely looks amazing. There’s even more in People if you’re interested. Christie says that she hasn’t really dated in the six years since her divorce but that “I don’t feel this gaping hole because I don’t have a man in my life.” That’s probably her best advice of all.

If you could get work done to your face, like whatever it entails, and you would look as good as Christie Brinkley at 58 would you do it? I totally would! I’m not saying that we would be as stunning as Christie Brinkley, (well some of you would, but not me) because we’re working with what we have, but if I could get someone to make me look like a fresh, slightly older version of how I looked when I was about 30 I would. (I turn 40 in a few months.) I’m not going to front like I’m above it or haven’t thought about it. It’s the bad work, the puffy lips, the too-thin noses, and the women who can barely move their faces who have me staying away from plastic surgery – for now.
