Earlier this week, People Magazine announced that John Mellencamp and Christie Brinkley were over. It was a shock for those people who totally forgot that they were a thing. Christie and John started dating last fall, allegedly having their first date in September. It was weird, at the time, because I still thought John was crusty-loving with Meg Ryan. As it turns out, John and Meg had been off-and-on for the better part of a year, and John moved on in a big way with Christie. But now they?re over too. Their reps released a joint statement:
“Both the mileage between their homes and their heavy career demands interfered with their ability to maintain the relationship. They vowed to remain best of friends.”

Christie lives in the Hamptons, and John?s homebase is in Indiana, although I think he spends a lot of time in New York, so I did wonder if there was something more to this split other than just ?mileage.? As it turns out, there was: Christie hated John?s redneck ways. Allegedly.
Christie Brinkley had to part with John Mellencamp because she couldn?t take his hellbent political opinions and his redneck ways, sources say. The supermodel is a fixture in the fancy social circles of the Hamptons and is a Hillary Clinton supporter, while Mellencamp still lives in southern Indiana and sometimes sounds like a Donald Trump fan, though he isn?t.
?If you know John, you know he doesn?t do well at social gatherings and at tables filled with nice folks, particularly the Hamptons set,? one insider told me. ?He shoots straight from the hip. She may have liked that he?s a cowboy, but in the end that?s what drove her away.?
The chain-smoking Mellencamp is anti-war and pro-gay marriage. But in ?Peaceful World? he sings, ?People know this world is a wreck/We?re sick and tired of being politically correct.? In ?The West End? he sings, ?It sure has changed here/Since I was a kid/It?s worse now/Look what progress did.?
A source close to the couple said, ?Distance was the culprit. He doesn?t like the Hamptons. That is not his scene. So it fizzled out.?

Mellencamp was a pretty big Obama supporter actually, even performing at Obama rallies back in 2012. It wouldn?t surprise me at all if Mellencamp did say ?the wrong thing? around Christie?s fancy Hamptons friends though. I?m sure all of those snooty-snoots think Mellencamp is so peasant-y. And if John Mellencamp is a ?redneck? to those people, what do they think of literally half the country? Anyway? yeah, no surprise that a grizzled rocker from Indiana isn?t going to make it work with an Uptown Girl.

Christie Brinkley owns an enormous mansion in the Hamptons which looks out on a public beach. You can see a photo of her her estate here. Apparently Christie has a clear view of the beach because she got in an altercation with a woman who was about to pee on some rocks in front of her house. She set the hose on the lady, who then peed anyway, explaining to Page Six that she couldn’t hold it at that point.
Erica Remkus, 36, started to squat on Sag Harbor Cove sand around 10?p.m. to do her business, the woman told The Post.
??What are you doing?!??? Brinkley screamed, according to Remkus. ???You can?t pee in front of my house! You have to go away. You?re standing on my rocks. You can?t pee on my rocks. I walk there!? ?
Remkus, who says she didn?t recognize Brinkley at first, argued that she was on public property.
?These are not your rocks,? Remkus recalled shouting back, standing on a section of sand that was deserted ? except for another man who had just urinated there. ?This is not your beach. The beach is public property. You don?t own it.?
Brinkley ended the argument by pulling out her hose and blasting Remkus, a hairdresser, from about 30 feet away, according to police.
?I hadn?t even peed yet, by the way,? Remkus said.
The woman says she then realized she was being doused by the 62-year-old former Sports Illustrated cover girl.
?It took me a minute even to figure out who it was,? she said.
Remkus says that after Brinkley sprayed her, she defiantly peed on the sand near the home, which the model owns but only occasionally uses.
Brinkley recorded Remkus peeing with her cellphone, the woman said.
?I would not have peed if she didn?t spray me,? Remkus said. ?After that, I kind of had to.?
An infuriated Brinkley called cops, who interviewed Remkus but declined to cite her, authorities said. Unless an officer witnessed the urination, authorities wouldn?t normally press charges, police said.
A local official said Remkus was peeing on public property. A rep for Brinkley didn?t respond to a request for comment Sunday.

The Daily Mail has some screenshots of Facebook comments Remkus made in which she described the altercation with Brinkley and admitted giving her the finger, peeing anyway, and throwing glow necklaces at Brinkley. She also said that the cop who came out rolled his eyes at Brinkley and told Remkus that Brinkley didn’t own the beach. Obviously this woman was drunk and rude but Brinkley seems to have been overstepping regardless.
Well Brinkley wasn’t going to leave well enough alone. She issued a ridiculous statement in which she tried to sound clever but just came across like a type-A meanie:
I know it’s Independence Day but that does not mean “free to pee” in front of my guests and me at my fireworks gathering. Maybe the trespasser should celebrate “Depends Day” as she apparently thinks she lives in “The Land of the Pee”, and I I was forced to hose down her mess after she urinated in my yard all the while throwing things at me.
My wish for everyone on this Fourth of July is.l..May you live in the Land of the Free from belligerent drunken stalkers with weak bladders and foul mouths. (that’s not too much to ask right ?) Peace! I’ll raise my glass of Bellissima Prosecco to that…Cheers Happy 4th to everyone!

Give me a break, “Free to Pee” and “Depends Day.” Plus she put in a plug for her prosecco at the end! I would be team drunken lady peeing outside, but she she’s not blameless and handled the situation no class.Brinkley has owned dogs, I’m sure she doesn’t run around with the hose spraying after her dog does number one. This is about Brinkley thinking no one has a right to use the beach near her property. It’s gross to have to see people peeing outside, Remkus sounds like she made a stink about it and was trashy and obnoxious, but Brinkley technically doesn’t have the right to spray people when it’s not her property.

Let me be clear from the start of this story, I don’t think Christie Brinkley is wrong, I just think that she’s full of sh*t. She’s obviously telling people what she thinks they want to hear, and what she believes will sell her new book, Timeless Beauty. The last we reported on Brinkley, 61, she was claiming that she’d only tried Botox once while conveniently forgetting to mention the plastic surgery which has significantly changed the entire shape of her face. She was also touting diet and exercise for boosting one’s mood and looks, which is perfectly reasonable. In this new interview, with AOL Build, Christie talked about body image, image standards, and how women often strive to please others with our appearance. It was a good message, but this is a lady who has a beauty book and a hair extension and skincare line. She’s not really following her own advice. Here’s more of what she said.
“I think that my industry has come a long way, although we’re still a little too appreciative of the super, super unhealthfully skinny body. People’s bodies come in every shape and size, and I really believe that all shapes and sizes should be celebrated as long as that’s your natural, healthy weight,” Brinkley said during the chat.
Brinkley, whose kids Jack and Sailor Brinkley-Cook have both dabbled in modeling, is all about having a more relaxed perspective on appearance and setting our own standards of what’s beautiful.
“If I could say something to my younger self or to my daughters, I always try to say, ‘You know, we’re always so concerned about what ‘they’ think or what ‘they’re’ going to say. Well, who is that, ‘them’? Who are we referring to?’ Because basically, it’s up to us to set our own standards of what’s right for us and be leaders, and not be under this pressure of thinking that we need to fit in to something that maybe we’re not meant to fit into. Maybe we’re meant to be leaders and set examples,” she said.
“Right now, what I’m seeing is a real movement of women supporting women, like, really being excited to encourage each other and be there for each other, and I think that that’s really important,” Brinkley added. “I think that that will only lift all of us and make all of us thrive and really shine.”

Much of what she said, barring the fact that she’s saying it, rings true to me. We do need models who are not underweight (which is technically below a BMI of 18), as we discussed in the post on Victoria Beckham a couple of days ago. I don’t believe people have a “natural” weight, weight is the product of what we put in our bodies and how much energy we expend, but I believe we have a “healthy” weight, which can be objectively measured for height, age and gender. That’s probably what she meant anyway. It’s also true that we should live and look in a way that’s genuine to who we are, not what other people expect from us, which can be arbitrary and can change with beauty trends. Again, this is Christie Brinkley saying these things, though. She’s a model and she’s kept up her looks with hard work and she’s capitalizing on it. These words might ring more true from, say, Geena Davis, or someone committed to these causes. It’s not really a congruent message coming from Christie. Also, Kaiser put it much better than I did, she told me that “people are tired of being preached to by blonde, traditionally ‘beautiful’ women who have spent their entire professional careers profiting from their inclusion in society’s extremely narrow definition of beauty.”
