| Kristen Bell credits successful marriage to 'therapy, fierce moral inventories' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are a married couple I can only take in small doses. They’re open about their personal issues and in theory that’s admirable and helpful to a lot of people. Sometimes I wish they would tone it down a little because they can be extra. I think that only comes through for people like me who follow celebrity gossip, because if you catch them occasionally you might think “those two are refreshingly honest.” Anyway they’re promoting the CHiPs movie, which looks dumb and overly raunchy but has the potential to be funny. It’s out this weekend and there enough reviews yet for a Rotten Tomatoes rating. On the red carpet, when asked about her secrets to a successful marriage, Kristen said they do therapy and take “fierce moral inventories” frequently. Again, if you’re a gossip follower like me this isn’t new. Kristen and Dax have talked openly about the fact that they do couple’s therapy. It’s still good of her to admit it again.
?We have a very healthy marriage and we got there by doing therapy when we needed it, and constantly doing fierce moral inventories,? she said. ?We both take responsibility when we are wrong, and I think it is easy to work with him because I married him, because I enjoy spending time with him and I trust him. That is exactly what I want in someone that I work with.?
The 36-year-old actress then joked, ?I guess there is no competition between us ? we?re not generally up for the same roles, so we can kind of keep that separate.?
Bell recalled the first time the couple fought: during a cross-country road trip on a motorcycle during their first year of dating.
?We were fighting about the first year of our relationship because it?s a power struggle, and we were fighting about the playlist, and I got so mad at him at one point that I refused to hold onto him,? she said. ?So I was on the back and just held onto the [bike] because I didn?t want to touch him.?
[From People]
The “fierce moral inventories” thing is an Alcoholics Anonymous reference to the fourth and tenth step of of AA, which are “Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves” and “Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.” Kristen has said before that Dax is in recovery, he’s been sober 13 years, and she follows AA’s disease model of addiction. As for that story about how they fought the first time, you get the impression that they both have Type A personalities. When they’re on the same page they’re a force to be reckoned with but I bet when they disagree the fights must be bad. Maybe they learned skills in therapy to work through those arguments without holding resentments.
I probably should have looked at these photos from the CHiPs premiere before writing this because I would have spent more time critiquing her outfit, which is some kind of crop top with scalloped lace at the bottom over a ruffled graphic print floral skirt. So fug.

| Kristen Bell in Rasario at the People's Choice Awards: 70s mermaid fail' | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I went into the People’s Choice Awards with very low expectations. (Honestly I didn’t know it was happening until yesterday morning, but I rarely watch broadcast TV now). I was pleasantly surprised by how watchable it was for an awards show, but as many of you know I love this year’s host, Joel McHale. The writing was funny and they worked in some bawdy humor without being sexist (looking at you, sh-tty Golden Globe Awards). There were some nice moments, like when Tyler Perry won favorite humanitarian and they showed clips of how he has personally helped people in need. That touched me and made me realize I’m a selfish person who needs to do more for my community. The opening segment, when Joel McHale brought out a bunch of babies in a multi-baby stroller, was questionable, especially because one of the babies was bawling and was clearly in distress. (At least they didn’t Benadryl them ahead of time I guess.) Other than that I found it a fun little awards show, despite the fact that Hollywood is still trying to prop up drunk abuser Johnny Depp. They’re throwing good money after bad with that guy.
Kristen Bell had a couple of presenting jobs last night, she presented favorite movie comedic actor along with Matt Leblanc and she gave Tyler Perry his much-deserved humanitarian award. Her teleprompter failed halfway through the intro for Perry and she admitted this and then ad libbed the rest of her speech like a pro. You could tell she was making it up as she went along and it worked. Then, after they showed the video segment of Perry buying vans for disabled people, building homes for families in need and just generally being an awesome person, Bell made an unnecessary explanation of why she hadn’t memorized the whole speech. This is her Type A personality coming out and I get it. Still, it wasn’t about her and she should have realized that. (You can see Tyler’s inspiring speech here, The People’s Choice Awards didn’t put up the intro part unfortunately.)
Bell was in this very curious Rasario silver jumpsuit featuring a bizarre white bust. This looked like Little Mermaid meets Saturday Night Fever and it was questionable to say the least. I like the fact that it’s a jumpsuit and that it looks comfortable, but this would have worked better without the bra thing.

Here’s Kaley Cuoco in Lela Rose. There was a lot of questionable fashion last night, but I guess that’s to be expected for a secondary awards show like this. Big Bang Theory won Favorite Network TV Comedy (video is here), which was its eighth People’s Choice Award. I guess that speaks to either how popular it still is and/or how influential CBS is. That’s the same network which aired the PCA and they won a bunch of awards. Plus most of the Big Bang cast showed up, except for Jim Parsons, and that seems to be the major requirement for winning a PCA.

| Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham at the Golden Globes: too open in front or glamorous? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kristen Bell was one of the first arrivals at the Globes in a Jenny Packham black metallic gown with an open front and a loose floor length skirt. A lot of people loved this but I thought it was just ok. I think I just dislike those very open front dresses, that’s not my favorite look. It’s very glamorous overall though her makeup is kind of try hard. She and her husband, Dax Shepard, are working on the new CHiPs remake, which Dax told Ryan Seacrest would be a “hard R” rating, which means raunchy I guess. It’s not the worst idea but it seems like all Hollywood churns out lately are remakes. Some work though and end up being fun franchises, like 22 Jump Street.
Also in Packham we have Millie Bobby Brown looking both cute and sophisticated in an off the shoulder cap sleeve silver dress with small hanging pieces. I’m really loving Millie’s fashion this awards season. She’s getting it right so often. Giuliana called her a fashionista during their red carpet interview and she was so right.
I didn’t even see Gillian Anderson on the carpet last night. This white Packham dress with a tulle overlay and jeweled neckline is just ok though. She looks so polished with her updo, understated makeup and dress. As a whole this look is impressive.

| Kristen Bell in Maria Lucia Hohan at the Art of Elysium gala: pretty or pepto tin foil? | Added 7 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This year was the 20th anniversary of the annual Art of Elysium gala, which is an LA-based organization dedicated to bringing the arts into children’s hospitals and treatment facilities. The Hollywood Reporter has an interview with the founder, Jennifer Howell, and she says that they’re “currently expanding into prisons and veteran hospitals” with the goal of expanding nation wide and bringing their programs into public schools.
Kristen Bell attended this year in a Pink and bronze-hued Maria Lucia Hohan strapless gown featuring a slight side train. We get most of our fashion IDs from the Twitter account for The Fashion Court, and they have a photo of this dress in the original mint color. Check out the back, it has a laced corset closure. In theory I find this dress striking, but the Pink color is somewhat off to me and there’s something “Little Mermaid” about the bodice. Plus Bell’s styling is off. Her makeup needs to be blended better as I can see the highlighting and shading. This calls for a more subtle lip I think. I really like her Lucite clutch.
Emmanuelle Chriqui was in this see-through lace Thai Nguyen Atelier gown with strategic applique around the top and bottom. Maybe with a different lace pattern this would work, but as it is it looks cheap. I hope this trend of see-through lace dresses dies out in 2017, but it’s doubtful that will happen. The pattern at the bust looks very superhero when you see it close up, but the overall effect is strange. Her styling is lovely.
I don’t have an ID on Ali Larter’s dress but it’s a somewhat forgettable v-neck halter top with ruffles along the top, side cutouts and a sheer skirt. I don’t get why she (or her hairdresser) threw that little rhinestone bobby pin on the side of her hair. Also, she looks incredible I thought she was pregnant, but it turns out I was confusing her with Molly Sims. Ali, 40, has two children, son Theodore, six, and daughter Vivienne, who turns two next week.
Here’s Zelda Williams in a black gown with gold floral stitching and a bizarre built-in bolero jacket. Is that what that is? This is all sorts of fug, but she’s having fun and I love to see her out. Her makeup is perfection too.

| Kristen Bell on doing charity: 'It's really important not to stay in our bubble' | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
|
Yesterday was Giving Tuesday, a now five year-old tradition where people give to their charities of choice on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. I gave to a few organizations who may be particularly hurting under the Trump administration (check out John Oliver’s list of charities for ideas) and I gave in my family members’ names as the donations can make nice gifts. We’re all still kind of shell shocked and instead of buying stuff we’re trying to figure out what to do next, and there are already groups on the ground doing the hard work. That’s how I try to make a difference as a single mom without much time to spare but other people put their time and effort into working for charity and that’s admirable. Kristen Bell has always emphasized giving back to others and viewing everyone with kindness. While she was doing workfor an organization out of LA assisting the homeless called P.A.T.H, Bell spoke with E! about her charity work and philosophy. I know this post isn’t going to get a lot of interest, but please consider this – how great would it be if more celebrities promoted their charities of choice rather than the products and projects they’re usually hawking?
Kristen Bell has passionately volunteered her time with P.A.T.H (People Assisting The Homeless) for the last few years and opened up to E! News exclusively in an interview.
“It was right after I had kids, and it really hit me because I had just had a baby, and I was sort of floating around this idea that everybody is someone else’s baby…I would want others who are capable and had the ability to reach out a helping hand, and my mom always taught me that you have two hands for a reason, one hand is for you and one is for some giving,” the Good Place star shared with us while at P.A.T.H in Hollywood.
P.A.T.H is a nonprofit whose mission is to end homelessness for individuals, families, and communities. They’ve been around for over 30 years, and in just the last three years they’ve helped more than 6,500 people in California find permanent homes. Kristen has helped move in many families with P.A.T.H and explains, “It’s really important not to stay in our bubble, and we need to see all walks of life and all types of people and hear their stories and learn how we can work together.”
She added, “because it’s really just team human you know what I mean?”
Yes. And in working together, hopefully we can see our homeless population rate lower.
One way you can get involved with P.A.T.H is participating in what Kristen calls an “invisible feast,” an event she has co-chaired for the last couple of years.
“It’s an event we have here at P.A.T.H in the fall where we say we’re not going to make you come to an event, get dressed up and feed you a rubber chicken?just whatever you would have spent on a night out with your family…$40, $70, whatever it is, donate it, and we will make sure 100% of the proceeds go to helping people find a permanent home.”
[From E! Online]
E! also has the video of Bell’s quick interview with them which you can see on their site. Bell is very type A and she can be annoying, but she’s also someone who cares and feels things deeply. It would be easy for her to just sit back, do movies and sell products (to be fair she does that too) but she’s also putting work into helping others and into talking about that with the press. Yes some celebrities do that for publicity, but it’s so much easier for them to post bikini selfies or stage beefs with people if they want attention. It’s not like doing charity work is easy by any means. In most cases, like Bell, it comes out of a genuine desire to help people and to spread the word about it. We’ll oblige.
And here she is promoting stuff. Those mouths though.
It's #SmallBusinessSaturday! Don't forget to #shopsmall and support your local community today and everyday. #AmexAmbassador

| Kristen Bell in Zuhair Murad at the Emmys: one of the best or too much? | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kristen Bell was in an amazing, attention-getting dress at the Emmys last night. She had on this deep v-neck beige Zuhair Murad gown with a massive skirt and a floral print with subtle sequins. Bell is promoting her new show on NBC, The Good Place, and she wasn’t in any of the nominated shows as House of Lies wasn’t up for an Emmy this year. So she wore this to present. That would be my only complaint, and it’s a minor one, that it’s a showstopper of a gown for a presenter. Kristen told Giuliana Rancic that despite the fact that she had to lift up the gown to walk up the stairs it was very comfortable. I found myself admiring her styling too. I love her hair, her makeup is understated perfection and notice that her eyebrows are somewhat faint, which makes me wonder if the big bold eyebrow trend is on the wane.

Kristen Bell was at Comic-Con over the weekend promoting her upcoming TV sitcom with Ted Danson. It’s called The Good Place and premieres in September. You can watch the trailer on YouTube. It looks goofy and is about a Heaven-like environment where people get sent to live out their days. Only Bell’s character is bad and was mistakenly sent there instead of Hell/The Bad Place. I think I’ll be skipping this one. She’s also in Bad Moms, which is out this weekend and similarly looks goofy/raunchy. That’s one I’ll see on demand.
As part of promotion for her shows, Bell gave an interview to CBS, where she opened up about her marriage to Dax Shepard and shared photos of their civil ceremony. These two got married at the Beverly Hills Courthouse in October, 2013 (After DOMA got struck down, they were true to their word) and she’s only letting people see the pics now. For all you can say about these two, they don’t pimp out their kids or their personal lives. (Although they do shill products which make it look like you’re getting a glimpse into their life at home, even if that’s entirely manufactured.) Here’s some of what she told CBS, and you can watch the interview on their site.
On her success at 36
“I don’t deserve to be here. I worked hard, but I was also in the right place at the right time. And I’m really, really grateful for the jobs that I’ve had.”
On what she gets insecure about
“I feel stupid sometimes. That’s a truthful insecurity. I am around so many talented artists and intellectuals and creative people. I spend a lot of time with people that are smarter than me. So one of my truthful insecurities is that I feel stupid a lot.”
On her early career
“I wasn’t homely or awkward enough to play the awkward girl, but I wasn’t pretty enough to play the love interest. I was somewhere down the middle.”
On Veronica Mars
“Veronica Mars was the advice that high schoolers needed: ‘If you don’t fit in, make your own category.’”
On the importance of her family
“I always think, if I’m on my deathbed, what am I gonna be thinking about? And it won’t be some random movie I participated in, or some TV show. It will be my family.”
On her husband, Dax Shepard
“He’s a wonderful father.” [gets teared up]
“What makes him a wonderful father?”
“He knows the value of things. He was an addict for many, many years and he pulled himself out of it, and he’s been sober for 11, 12 years now. … And he knows how many times he’s messed up and how many times he’s been really closing to losing everything.”
On her wedding with Dax
“We got married in a tiny room in the Beverly Hills courthouse, and it was still one of the best days of my life.”
Maybe you’re not the biggest fish, but that’s okay?”
“Those big fish sometimes have a real hard time. They can’t — I can still go to the grocery store. So I think I’m really happy with the size fish that I am.”
[From CBS News]
Both Kristen and Dax have talked about Dax’s addiction and how that shaped who he is. I like that they’re open about it and that she’s also trying to reduce the stigma around depression and anxiety, which she admits she has. They’re trying to be vulnerable and while they’re just as calculated as other celebrities at least they’re championing good causes. Plus they got married in a small civil ceremony. She wore a black skirt and top with a statement necklace. That’s cool! Here are photos that Kristen shared on CBS. Sorry they’re a little blurry. (Also, Kristen’s hair is a weird shade of blonde in these Comic-Con pics right? It doesn’t suit her.)

| Kristen Bell: Dax Shepard would rather I cheat than watch Game of Thrones alone | Added 8 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Kristen Bell covers the August issue of Redbook. They put her in some fug preppy outfits for the editorial and I get that she gives off that midwest Girl Next Door vibe, but there are classier ways to do preppy. In the photo of her in the striped shirt they photoshopped her eyes so much she looks like a husky. Her interview touches on several of her go-to topics, which makes sense as journalists know what to ask. She discusses mental health and wellness – she’s been open about her battle with anxiety and depression – and her relationship with husband, Dax Shepard. Bell talks about their arguments and how she used to just storm off. I haven’t heard this from her before, but she did tell a very similar story in a joint interview with Dax for Good Housekeeping last year. Dax and Kristen have also admitted that they go to couples’ therapy. So she doesn’t say too much new here, although the stuff about how Dax would rather she cheat on him than watch Game of Thrones without him is new I think. Kristen is promoting Bad Moms, that questionable-looking comedy co-starring Mila Kunis and Kathryn Hahn. It’s out July 29th.
On the importance of being real in the age of social media:
?In the age of social media, when you can edit your life in beautiful pictures, it?s important to remind moms that all of us are wearing yogurt and all of our hands smell like urine. When you present an unrealistic idea of perfection to people, it?s not fair.?
The upside of revealing her battle with depression:
?It didn?t occur to me that I would help anybody. Also, I didn?t expect to be so moved by people?s comments on social media about how they had been prescribed medication and never wanted to take it until now because it finally didn?t feel shameful. You?re labeled as a failure if you can?t kick depression. That?s bulls–t. You would never deny a diabetic his insulin and go, ?Why can?t you process sugar on your own??
How she and Dax work so well as a couple:
?We fought a lot and I loved a dramatic exit. It I could slam a door, I felt so powerful. If I could get in my car and screech away, it was even better?. He said to me, ?If we have an issue, you can?t leave. We?re going to talk or I?m not going to do this with you.? I loved him so much that I was like, I better get my act together.?
On watching Game of Thrones with Dax:
?He would rather I sleep with another man [than watch Game of Thrones without him], I swear to God!”
On whether Dax ever gets jealous of other men:
?Every now and again, but he layers it in comedy. When I get ready for a red-carpet event, he?ll say, ?Don?t get too confident tonight and think of leaving me!? I?m like, ?You?re lucky that nobody at this party is going to be as interesting as you are!?
[From Good Housekeeping]
When I start to watch a new show with a friend or family member I get antsy if I have to wait until we both have time to watch it again. Then when you’re next with them, you have to commit to sitting down and watching the show at the expense of catching up or doing anything else. I prefer to start watching a show with someone and then making a pact that we’re free to finish it on our own. (Unless we’re watching it when it airs.) I realize that this is the epitome of a first world problem, but unless you’re living with them it can feel like you’re giving up time with the person for the show. That way, there’s no waiting, there’s no guilt if you watch it without them and you can focus on being with them when you visit. However I will admit that I honor show contracts with my son. He’s just about the only person I do that for. It has to be a special person I guess. The fact that Dax jokes that he’d rather Kristen cheat on him kind of speaks to how deep these show commitments can go.
In terms of Dax and Kristen, I have the impression that they’re perfect for each other. They both are kind of extra, they’re both very open and they’re committed to each other – and to their shows! They are so into Game of Thrones.
Dax and I went to the premiere of #GOT last night. Everyone was in suits and dresses. People were sipping cocktails. We were in tank tops that said "Stark in the streets, Wildling in the sheets". We sported temporary tattoos that said Ours Is The Fury and Winter Is Coming. At one point I lifted a cantaloupe in the air and said 'this egg shall change history' and ran out the fire exit.

E! Online has a new long interview with Kristen Bell focusing on her charity work and advocacy. It’s a nice look into the causes that she cares about, and given what I know about her I do think she’s genuinely concerned and wants to help. Bell has admitted that she feels things deeply, we’ve seen her lose it over sloths, and that seems to extend to her feeling empathy for others. (She’s also been open about the fact that she struggles with anxiety and depression.) Her husband, Dax Shepard, once said that she gave away literally all their things to local charities when they were in Cuba, down to their baby supplies and diapers. Bell told E! that she works with homeless charities and charities focusing on addiction because Dax helped her understand what it’s like to be an addict. He’s been sober 13 years now but he used to have a serious problem with drugs and alcohol. She also said that she tells her daughters that they’re no better than anyone else and that everyone should be treated well.
“It is the most important thing I am trying to teach. I am trying to teach my kids not be stunted by country lines, language barriers, or religious boundaries. And that all human beings, and everyone in the world is part of someone’s family and they should be treated as such. It’s so simple to get caught up in lines that divide us. Why are you different? I think it’s important to remind ourselves that we are all the same and everyone is doing the best they can with what they have…”
Kristen works closely with PATH?People Assisting the Homeless?an organization that supports those transitioning from living on the streets to moving into homes. “They have the ability to do ‘move-ins’ where you get the list of household items they need like a sofa, and a bed, pots and pans. My friends and I, particularly for birthdays, instead of having a party we go do a ‘move-in’. We will all be on an email chain and divide the tasks, ‘Okay, I’ll go to Goodwill, you go to Ikea’. And then we get to move a family or an individual in.”
In addition to her work with PATH, Kristen recently donated $10,000 to Sun Cedar, a nonprofit resource center and manufacturing organization employing past felons, recovering addicts and homeless people who are getting back on their feet.
Kristen further explained to us, “I have a particular affinity towards helping people who feel outcast whether they’ve made mistakes, like having past felony convictions or recovering addicts. My husband [Dax Shepard] is in recovery and is almost 13 years sober. And seeing the world through his eyes has really opened mine to knowing that it is a disease and nobody is choosing to drink more than others, they are doing it because of a variety of reasons and they deserve the attention of a mental health professional, and not the county jail or however else we’re choosing to pretend we’re fixing the problem.”
[From E! Online]
That was really nice and I like that idea of having parties where you do charity work with you friends instead of drinking, eating and chatting. It’s like a party with a purpose. Kristen recently Instagrammed this post to support Sun Cedar charity. She didn’t state how much money she donated, nor does she seem like the type to brag about it. In fact she doesn’t Instagram much.
Sun Cedar rules. They belive "nothing will work unless you do". That's why they employ and empower at -risk members of the community to restore a sense of purpose & dignity in their lives. Giving people a fresh start or a second chance is so important. Sometimes that's all any of us need. That's why I love them and bought all these handmade sweet smelling Cedar trees for my upcoming holiday gifts this year. Find them at http://www.sun-cedar.com , or join their go fund me page in my bio line.
