While families seeking asylum are allegedly no longer being ripped apart at the border, there is still the issue of reuniting the families who are already separated, and finding all the missing little girls particularly. As Kaiser mentioned last week, some immigrants are being offered the option to reunite quicker with their children if they sign documents agreeing to be deported afterwards. Its unclear if there is a plan in place to reunite families or if this is just another cruel tactic to take advantage of traumatized parents.
Late last week, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and mayors from over 12 other cities tried to gain access to one of the detention facilities for children on the US Mexican border and were denied. Mayor de Blasio was appalled to learn that over 200 children had been sent from the border to New York, far from their families, in a process that was unknown and unaccountable to even government officials. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was allowed to tour one of the facilities on the border and the scene she described is heartbreaking. She was visibly shaken up as she described Children by themselves all lying on concrete floors in cages.
We also heard a rare story of a Guatemalan mother and her seven year-old son who were reunited thanks to a lawsuit filed against the US government. They were separated for a month and described harrowing conditions in the facilities along with emotional abuse and a lack of access to clean water.
As the details of these horrific conditions come out, were wondering what we can do to protest and raise awareness. On June 30th there are nation wide protests planned against the separation policy.
Protestors gathered in LA on Saturday at the Keep Families Together Rally and Toy Drive. Kristen Bell was one of the speakers, shes been active in childrens causes for years, and I admire how blunt and clear she was. I cant find video of her speech but here are some quotes:
The activists, who were joined by Hollywood actress Kristen Bell, called on US President Donald Trump to immediately reunite the children with their parents.
?To our current administration please hear this. Do not underestimate the love of family when you attack one family you attack all families and families fight back. And we won?t rest until those children are back where they belong,? Bell said.
Samantha Montes, a child care professional, said she was disturbed by the forced separation of families.
?Children know their parents are taken away and taken somewhere else and they don?t even know where they?re going, Montes said.
Along with other activists and supporters, Montes gathered and donated toys for the migrant children and piled them up outside the building that houses immigration agencies.

As for how reunification is going to happen, there are countless organizations and people who want to help in any way possible. Genetic testing companies 23andMe and MyHeritage have stated that they will provide free testing for separated families while working to limit government access to personal data. While it seems impossible to get the Trump administration to care about any children or families who arent white, were going to keep the pressure on until change is made. This is a dark time in our country and the least we can do is continue to speak out and protest.

Kristen Bell was the first ever host at last night’s SAG Awards, and she had to deliver a lot of mediocre lines that just weren’t funny or impactful. I like Kristen, she’s a go-getter and she’s hosted the Independent Spirit Awards masterfully, but she wasn’t given good material. She had a lot of costume changes last night, some were beautiful, but we’re just going to talk about her red carpet dress, this deep Pink J. Mendel with a floral overlay which was fitted down to her bottom. There was definitely something off about the fit and cut of this gown, like it should be higher on the bust and hips and more traditionally cut. The clustering of the embroidery was also bizarre, like she’d been attacked by a sewing machine from the waist up. If you’d like to see Kristen’s opening monologue, Just Jared has a clip here.
Laura Linney was also in J. Mendel, in a full coverage pepto Pink gown with a cape. Like Bell’s dress this was just bizarre. I feel like I’ve seen this sequin pattern before, it’s clearly a leaf but it looks more like something you would see wriggling under a microscope. It’s like somewhat was trying to put a modern art take on a very staid dress and I dislike it. Linney was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, for her work in Ozark. That went to Claire Foy for The Crown.
Madeline Brewer of The Handmaid’s Tale was in a solid color blush gown with a bunch of pearl-like balls stuck on it. This princess gown is Reem Acra. I see what she was going for with her crimson shoes and matching lips, but I don’t like her styling at all. The slicked back hair does not go with this look. She was gorgeous at the Critics Choice Awards but this is a miss for her.
Sequins were big last night, as were retro silhouettes. Connie Britton’s aggressively Pink Elisabetta Franchi gown combined both in one fug package. It had shoulder pads, the color was awful, and the fit was very “loose disco dress.”

The more I hear from Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, the more I think they?re perfect for each other. Take the story that Kristen told on The Talk earlier this week, unbeknownst to Dax, that their 3 and 4 year-old daughters had walked in on them having sex. Kristen didn?t give Dax a heads up on that and he had to find out when a stranger blurted it out to him at a restaurant. Instead of getting upset at Kristen (which he still might have done, I have no idea) he turned it into his own story and elaborated on it while on Jimmy Kimmel. That?s what these two do, they tell funny stories about their family life and their kids on talk shows but it?s ok because we don?t know what their kids look like. Here?s what Dax told Kimmel:
Dax on Kristen promoting Bad Moms Christmas
She’s very active and she does a ton of interviews. Eventually you run out of stuff to talk about, as you’re seeing now. I was at a restaurant last night this is the honest truth. This stranger come up to me and he goes ‘Hey, I just read your kids walked in on you having sex.’
I was like ‘What are you talking about?’
‘I just saw a headline it said your kids walked in on you having sex.’
I don’t even know that she told that story. I don’t know what version she told of it.
Kimmel: Oh so it did happen
Ish. I go ok. They didn’t walk in while I was like pounding mom. We put on the TV in the living room, we’re bad parents. We stole away for minute. Afternoon delight. We’re just under the sheets. They walked in. It’s more like explaining why we’re taking a nap in the afternoon while they were on the loose. It wasn’t in full coitus interruptus. Suffice to say I couldn’t have gotten out of bed at that point.

Ok that was funny and Dax can tell a good story. I don?t know, do you think it will be more or less embarrassing for their daughters when they read that not only did their mom let it slip that they walked in on their parents, but that their dad confirmed it? Dax?s story makes it sound much more innocent though, like they could have been taking a naked nap. Either way if these kids are typical teenagers or tweens when they see this (and that?s the age they?ll be) they?ll be mortified. They?ll probably have more recent things to get embarrassed about at that point though, considering who their parents are.

At one point I thought that Kristen Bell had reached the limits of her oversharing to the press. That was likely after she revealed that she loved to fight dramatically with her husband Dax Shepard in the first year they were dating. This seemed like TMI to me. I have mixed feelings about Kristen and Dax as they’ve both been admirably vulnerable with the press. They’ve revealed some painful personal information, like the fact that Kristen suffers from anxiety and takes medication for it and that Dax is a recovering addict. On the other hand this seems to be a calculated media strategy in that they often talk about how their marriage takes work and that they’re in therapy. Kristen has even admitted that she believes in showing her bad side as well as her good. She also knows how to get headlines with some revealing quotes, like when she recently shared a personal story about her kids walking in on her and Dax during sexytimes. Kristen and Dax’s have daughters Delta, 3, and Lincoln, 4 and a half. Kristen is promoting A Bad Mom’s Christmas, which premiered this weekend at #2 behind Thor: Ragnarok of course, and is sitting at 32% on Rotten Tomatoes. Kristen was asked on The Talk “what is the most awkward thing your kids walked in on you and your husband doing?” She then launched into this story, and maybe she didn’t have a choice but considering that most of these questions are prearranged I would assume it was her idea or she at least agreed to it beforehand.
Kristen Bell… revealed on The Talk Friday that her children with Shepard, 42, once walked in on her and the actor in a compromising situation.
When asked about her most embarrassing moment involving her family, the actress didn?t hesitate: ?Oh, they?ve walked in on us having sex.?
After the show?s cohosts gasped, Bell quickly said, ?That?s how they were made, it?s OK!?
When Julie Chen asked what she and Shepard did, the actress said, ?Well, we didn?t, like, continue? we sort of just went like, ?Hey, what?s up? What do you need? What do you need??? And then we just said, ?Mommy and daddy are just going to take a nap for a couple of minutes.’?

Do you remember when Kristen and Dax spearheaded the “no kids policy” movement to get paparazzi to stop taking harassing and taking photographs of kids? They feel strongly about protecting their children’s identities, which is understandable. It seems odd for Kristen to tell these type of stories in light of that. Of course it’s her prerogative though. It may sound benign as the girls were little and likely didn’t figure out what was happening. I have a teenager, and he would be embarrassed if he discovered I revealed a story like this about his childhood, even if it was a throwaway little anecdote like this. (Remember how Kelly Ripa’s 15 year-old daughter didn’t even want her to her post a Halloween throwback photo? Teenagers like to control their image.) So maybe Kristen and Dax should dial it back a little when it comes to telling personal stories involving their daughters.
Also Kristen was asked at the Bad Moms premiere how she keeps it “spicy” with Dax and she elaborated on that quite a bit. She said Dax’s humor “keeps it spicy for us a lot” and that she appreciates when he does little things for her. “It sort of comes out of like, he’ll make the coffee or like wear a Christmas sweater to the Bad Moms premiere, which I was like, ‘Are you trying to make me horny? Come on.‘”

As Corey mentioned on Monday, Kristen Bell did her best to raise spirits in Florida as she rode out Hurricane Irma. Kristen was not able to leave Orlando, where she?s filming Like Father. She is staying at the Swan and Dolphin resort, which, with the two hotels combined, boasts 2,267 guest rooms and over 330,000 square feet of indoor meeting space. The resort sounds like it made the most of it for everyone. Countless families (and their pets!) found shelter there. Kristen took it upon herself to make everyone’s stay as fun as it could be. And Kristen didn?t limit herself just to the hotel. Early Saturday evening, she put out this call:

Kristen Bell is a real hustler. She?s always promoting some partnership with a product/brand and she seems to give interviews constantly. She?s good at being quotable too, I?ll definitely give her that. On one hand she has worked hard to shield her daughters, Lincoln, four, and Delta, two, from public view and from the paparazzi but on the other she gives very good quotes about specific ways she and her husband, Dax Shepard, are raising them. I don?t think those two things are necessarily incompatible but some people find it hypocritical. Anyway Bell was promoting her Neutrogena deal on The Today show (she also has a deal with Tide) when she explained that she loves hearing advice from other parents. She then gave advice about dealing with her children?s emotions and not telling them everything is ok when they don?t feel ok. At least she’s not hypocritical about advice.
On taking advice
I’m really good at taking advice because I believe that I should take any and all advice out there, and it is up to me to decide what’s useful. So, for example, I look into Montessori teaching and Waldorf teaching, and the MUSE School that James Cameron started, and all of these different methods of learning ? and I read “The Danish Way of Parenting” ? and then I look at my kids and I see what can apply and be useful.
I am a parent that actually loves to hear advice from other mothers. I don’t care if your filter is judgmental or altruistic ? I still want to hear it because it may be valuable to me.
On not telling her kids “it’s ok” when they feel bad
I stopped saying, “It’s OK,” to anything in their lives. My older daughter gets embarrassed a lot, and I don’t say, “It’s OK. It’s OK.” I simply sit next to her and I say, “Do you feel embarrassed?” And she’ll say, “Yes.” And I say, “I feel embarrassed, too, sometimes. Sometimes I trip and I feel embarrassed or I break a bowl and I feel embarrassed. I used to feel embarrassed a lot more as a kid, but as you become an adult, some of that stuff goes away.
So, I allow them to have their feelings ? because I think saying, “It’s OK,” all the time doesn’t do anyone any favors. It just makes them subconsciously think that they’re not supposed to be having those feelings.

That?s a hard one, not telling your kid that things are fine and it?s going to work out ok. You just want them to feel better but it is important to acknowledge why they?re upset to and to show them you understand. She said she will send them to their room if they’re having a tantrum and ruining dinner, for instance. She sounds very Type A and extra, which is ok and she owns it, that’s just an impression I’ve had of her for some time. It probably takes one to know one. As for advice from other parents, I will ask for it sometimes but I don’t want people telling me what to do with my kid. Usually it’s the know-it-all types who think they know what’s best for your family and your situation. If it’s a close friend or family member that’s a different story.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard were more extra than usual while promoting their CHiPs remake, which did miserably at the box office and with critics. There was some backlash against them and their propensity to overshare, but they still have fans who find them refreshing. They went relatively silent for a few weeks, which seems to have worked in their favor.
Kristen made an appearance over the weekend at a Baby2Baby event sponsored by TinyPics. Baby2Baby provides low income families with diapers and needed supplies. Kristen is very active with charity work and is known as an empathic person. E! caught up with her and she had some things to say about unplugging her devices around her daughters Lincoln, 4, and Delta, 2. She said she?ll leave her phone by the door when she gets home and not check it. She also admitted that she?s privileged to be able to turn down jobs if they?ll keep her away from her family for any length of time.
“Personally,” Dax Shepard’s wife shared, “My first priority is to stay territorial of my family time. So when I have the luxury of looking at a job and seeing if it shoots out of town, I’m probably not going to do it.”
Bell added, “Are the hours awful? Will I miss six months of my kids’ life? I’m probably not going to do it.”
“So for me, spending their baby years alongside them and not on FaceTime is very important,” Kristen shared. “And when I’m at home I put my phone by the door and I’m just with them.”
She described disconnecting from technology as “hard in the beginning, but now that I do it, it’s quite liberating.”
Kristen and Dax welcomed daughters Lincoln in 2013 and Delta Bell a year and a half later, an experience the actress told us was a wakeup call on perspective.
“Motherhood right sized all my problems,” she said. “Anything I thought I was worried about kind of evaporated when I realized my babies were healthy and that I could provide for them… I have become acutely aware of the fact that is not everyone’s situation.”
That’s why Bell said she’s invested so much time and energy into helping fellow moms: “If I were in a different situation, I would want other mothers to reach out and help be my support system.”
“We’re sort of all in this together,” she continued, “It used to take a village and now this, we’re recreating a village.”

I doubt I could unplug like that, but I run an online business and work from home. I do try to take a few hours off here and there but not from the moment I get home at night. I also try to be present for my son. We’ve all seen the parents glued to their phones ignoring their kids, and I’m guilty of that occasionally. Good for her for doing that, it?s a hard habit to break. I could also relate to how she explained motherhood because my kid always comes first. I try to remember as long as he is healthy and doing well that there’s little need to worry.
As for her outfit for the Baby2Baby event, what is she wearing on her feet? That ruffled floral dress isn?t bad for a day event but it looks like she?s wearing slippers with poofy tassels on them.

Kirsten Bell is still dutifully promoting The CHiPs movie her husband Dax Shepard made, even though it’s pretty much DOA. It could break even with international and DVD sales but it doesn’t look likely. Plus it just got skewered by critics and stands at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes, which also explains its bad box office – poor word of mouth. It seems like she’s everywhere lately though. I’m only going to cover a couple of her recent interviews because, like many other people, I’m a little burnt out on her and her husband. First off, here’s an interview she did with Bustle where she addressed, in a roundabout way, the criticism she gets in the media. She talked about herself in the third person. I’ve never done this and I can’t remember the last time I heard someone do it in person, but I guess referring to themselves in the third person is a thing for celebrities.
On not caring what people think of her
“You can see me however you want to see me. I try not to look too often to how I?m perceived. I think it messes with your head… my life motto is that I like being an actress, but I love being Kristen.”
On persuading her husband, Dax Shepard, to give her a role in CHiPs
“I was just a d*ck to him at home for awhile. No, I did threaten to do that. But we actually just had a long talk about it, and I said, ‘whatever you decide, I totally get it.’”
On working to ensure that their real-life chemistry didn’t affect the less-than-stellar relationship between their characters
“He made a very good point, which is why he?s a good director ? he said, ‘I don?t want anyone even subconsciously to be rooting for us, during this movie.”

I understand why famous people try not to focus on how they’re perceived or how they try to separate themselves from their public persona, which is sounds like Kristen is doing. Maybe that’s why she’s calling herself by her own name – that’s someone she keeps separate and private.
Kristen also has a new interview with Parents magazine which was posted on Facebook Live. She’s promoting her relationship with Tide detergent in this case. She talked about telling her children, she has daughters Lincoln, 4, and Delta, 2, with Dax, about race. I don’t know if I get what she’s saying here.
Bell referenced a chapter in the book Nurture Shock, titled, ?Why White Parents Don?t Talk About Race.?
?You think, ?Oh they?re going to see that I have a black friend, and they?ll know it?s OK.? That?s not the way humans work. We evolved and 200 years ago if we met in a field we would have killed each other if we were from different tribes because the ‘other’ is meant to protect you evolutionarily.”
?Kids will notice differences,? Bell explained. ?So we talk to them about it ? like, our best friend is Indian, and we?re always like, ?Look at this, isn?t this cool? The difference between Monica?s skin and Mommy?s skin? And they?re different colors. Did you know everybody is a different color? We had our first black president??
She added, ?You talk to them about it, so the idea of ?the other? is never left alone in their brain.? Bell believes that if parents don?t acknowledge other cultures or the differences between individual human beings, kids may draw their own conclusions based on fear.
?Differences are also important, cultures are important, and it?s important to acknowledge those because if you ignore them, your kids are seeing them, [and] they?re coming to their own conclusions. The topic needs to be open,? she said.

Her daughters are young so maybe this makes sense in this context but something about this isn’t rubbing me the right way. It’s like they’re pointing out to their kids that people are different and making a big deal about it. She’s so extra though it’s hard to know exactly what she means. Here’s a clue though. Dax once said Kristen had a “fetish” for Indian men as if being attracted to anyone but a white guy was a “fetish.”

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are a married couple I can only take in small doses. They’re open about their personal issues and in theory that’s admirable and helpful to a lot of people. Sometimes I wish they would tone it down a little because they can be extra. I think that only comes through for people like me who follow celebrity gossip, because if you catch them occasionally you might think “those two are refreshingly honest.” Anyway they’re promoting the CHiPs movie, which looks dumb and overly raunchy but has the potential to be funny. It’s out this weekend and there enough reviews yet for a Rotten Tomatoes rating. On the red carpet, when asked about her secrets to a successful marriage, Kristen said they do therapy and take “fierce moral inventories” frequently. Again, if you’re a gossip follower like me this isn’t new. Kristen and Dax have talked openly about the fact that they do couple’s therapy. It’s still good of her to admit it again.
?We have a very healthy marriage and we got there by doing therapy when we needed it, and constantly doing fierce moral inventories,? she said. ?We both take responsibility when we are wrong, and I think it is easy to work with him because I married him, because I enjoy spending time with him and I trust him. That is exactly what I want in someone that I work with.?
The 36-year-old actress then joked, ?I guess there is no competition between us ? we?re not generally up for the same roles, so we can kind of keep that separate.?
Bell recalled the first time the couple fought: during a cross-country road trip on a motorcycle during their first year of dating.
?We were fighting about the first year of our relationship because it?s a power struggle, and we were fighting about the playlist, and I got so mad at him at one point that I refused to hold onto him,? she said. ?So I was on the back and just held onto the [bike] because I didn?t want to touch him.?

The “fierce moral inventories” thing is an Alcoholics Anonymous reference to the fourth and tenth step of of AA, which are “Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves” and “Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.” Kristen has said before that Dax is in recovery, he’s been sober 13 years, and she follows AA’s disease model of addiction. As for that story about how they fought the first time, you get the impression that they both have Type A personalities. When they’re on the same page they’re a force to be reckoned with but I bet when they disagree the fights must be bad. Maybe they learned skills in therapy to work through those arguments without holding resentments.
I probably should have looked at these photos from the CHiPs premiere before writing this because I would have spent more time critiquing her outfit, which is some kind of crop top with scalloped lace at the bottom over a ruffled graphic print floral skirt. So fug.
