We know her as an actress, author, fashion designer, socialite, and daughter of Lionel Richie, and today Nicole Richie is celebrating her 28th birthday.
The “Simple Life” beauty and boyfriend, Joel Madden, have two beautiful children together – daughter, Harlow (1) and new son, Sparrow, who was recently born on September 9.
Of the name Sparrow, good friend, Paris Hilton, told Us Magazine, “I love how she comes up with these exotic names. I think Harlow and Sparrow sound cute together.”
The heiress continued, “It’s a perfect addition to the family. It just makes them the perfect little family.”

A little over a week ago, Nicole Richie gave birth to a baby boy named Sparrow, and just yesterday (September 18) stepped out in Los Angeles, CA.
The mama of two and her hubby Joel Madden were out and about sipping coffee as they tried to stay inconspicuous.
In recent news, Richie was among the fashionistas who made it onto People Magazine’s 10 Best Dressed List of 2009 which highlights the celebrities who consistently look amazing in fashions that work best for their style.
Others making the cut this year include Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Hudgens, Kate Winslet and Michelle Obama.

Nicole Richie gave birth to a bouncing baby boy early yesterday morning, and then promptly ruined his life with the gayest name ever. The couple wrote on Nicole’s website
“In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. He weighs 7 lbs. 14 oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.”
They might as well have named him Stinkhat Booger Sandwich or Wedgie Swirly Chester Backster, because that’s what he’s gonna get every day for the rest of his life with a name as faggy as “Sparrow.”

Adding to their loving family, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have welcomed a healthy baby boy.
“In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. He weighs 7 lbs. 14 oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes,” Nicole and Joel wrote on Nicole’s Web site.
Making for their second child together, baby Sparrow is the younger brother to Richie and Madden’s daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden.
Previously talking about the pregnancy, Joel told press: “We’re very, very blessed. We’ve already had one healthy kid, and that’s all you can ask for as a parent – healthy kids.”

Nicole Richie has given birth to a boy! Nicole and her boyfriend Joel Madden welcomed their son into the world this morning, making him a 9/9/09 baby, which is a really cool birthday to have, in my opinion. Plus, he?s a Virgo! Virgos rock (said the Virgo)! Nicole and Joel have named their son? wait for it? Sparrow James Midnight Madden. Dude, Sparrow? Sparrow?!? I don?t care what a cool little rocker kid he is, this poor kid is going to have his ass kicked in school. But I actually like the ?James Midnight? part of the name. That rocks. I love the name James.

“In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden,” she announced on her website Wednesday. “He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow [their 19-month-old daughter] and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.”
In February, Madden, 31, took to his band’s blog to announce that he and his girlfriend, 27, were expecting again. “What’s better than winning an Oscar?” he wrote. “I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister!”
As their family expands, the two ? together since 2006 ? have no immediate plans to wed.
“I think for both of us, we are going to do it because we want to, not because that’s what you do,” Richie told CNN’s Larry King last May. “We’re going to do it when the time’s right.”
Added Madden, “We’re really focused on our family, and we feel like ? we already feel kind of married, you know? Our family system that we have down, we feel like this is a real family and marriage, one day it will come.”
Richie’s father Lionel also wants them “to take their time.” He told King he knows people who have wed spontaneously “and they broke up five minutes later. I like the idea of ‘take your time, get it right,’ because you have kids in common.
“I’m more interested in whether they like each other and whether they’re best friends,” he went on. “Because that means they’ll be great parents forever.”
In 2008, Richie and Madden launched the Richie-Madden Foundation, a charity that supports families and children in need.

Congratulations to the happy family! I wonder how big sister Harlow is going to react to having a little brother? Harlow and Sparrow (twitch) are only something like 20 months apart in age, so hopefully Harlow won?t get too fussy about no longer being ?the baby?.
I?m sitting here trying to figure out is there?s some butch way to abbreviate ?Sparrow?. How about ?Spar? with an ?ah? sound? Or ?Row? could be cute. Let?s call him Row. Little Row Madden. That?s sweet. Much better than Sparrow, in any case.

It’s no secret that Nicole Richie has been scrutinized in the past for being too skinny. But she insists that she’s never suffered from an eating disorder.
The “Simple Life” hottie told press, “In the beginning, I was known for standing next to Paris Hilton, who is the skinniest person in the world — anybody would look a little thick next to her!”
Richie continued, “Then, after I lost weight, I was criticized for being too skinny. You can’t win. I was never anorexic, though. I spoke to my dad about my weight. He was concerned when he read what was being said about my health, but I kept assuring him that I always felt fine.”

Enjoying a swanky evening out in Beverly Hills, Nicole Richie was spotted hitting up a private party last night (August 6).
The “Simple Life” mommy looked beautiful and preggers as she strolled past the paparazzi in a black maternity dress with a grey cardigan and black strappy sandals.
Speaking of maternity wear, Nicole is garing up to launch a 14-piece collection for expecting mothers at the maternity store A Pea in the Pod.
Of the collaboration, Miss Richie told press, “I’m excited to join A Pea in the Pod in creating my capsule collection. I hope that the ease and comfort of my designs will help expectant moms to look and feel amazing throughout their pregnancy.”
A Pea in the Pod’s CCO Rebecca Matthias praised Richie for her designs. “Working with Nicole was a great experience. Her style exudes a natural, effortless beauty, and there is nothing more natural and beautiful than a pregnant woman’s glow.”

Nicole Richie seems to have stayed on the straight and narrow since her first pregnancy, with now 18-month-old Harlow. As Nicole is expecting her second child with boyfriend Joel Madden, she?s been keeping her public appearances pretty limited, only promoting her sold-out line of costume jewelry and doing various charitable deeds. It?s been a while since I?d read anything about her, so I kind of thought my girl was doing well. Not so much, if this ?eyewitness? account from the National Enquirer is any indication. Well they say Nicole is still okay, but that she might be having big issues with Joel. It seems Joel is a little tired of the quiet life with Nicole and has been out in LA, making an ass out of himself. Eyewitness accounts describe Joel?s behavior as ?raucous?, ?out of control? and ?acting like a total tool?. He was buying some tattooed vixen drinks, and he even got her digits:
While pregnant Nicole Richie sat home with 18-month-old daughter Harlow, boyfriend Joel Madden spent the night ?drinking and flirting? - and then exchanged phone numbers! - with a sexy, tattooed brunette at the Hollywood club Guys & Dolls, an eyewitness told The Enquirer.
[A disc-jockey gig turned] into a raucous boys? night out - acting ?out of control and definitely behaving like a single guy,? the source told the Enquirer.
?Instead of staying home with pregnant Nicole, he was acting like a total tool - smoking, drinking Red Bull and vodka, and buying drinks for a woman at the club who was hanging all over him.?

Joel started the flirting, says the insider - and the tattooed beauty flirted right back. ?She twirled her hair and kept leaning in closely and whispering in his ear. Joel smiled at her, touched her, and bought her a Heineken. And that was all she needed - she hung onto him for the rest of the night.?
The two even exchanged phone numbers.
?It was such a tacky thing to do in front of people who knew he had a girlfriend at home waiting for him,? continued the eyewitness. ?I?m sure he had some major explaining to do when he got home.?

?Tacky? is the right word. One of my worries for/about Nicole has always been that Joel isn?t in this for the long haul, and that she would get her heart broken. Hopefully, if any of this ?eyewitness? account is true, Nicole gave Joel an ultimatum - straighten out or I?m out. But something tells me Nicole isn?t one for ultimatums.

In tabloid-ville, everyone is pretty sure Nicole Richie is expecting a boy for her second child with her boyfriend/partner Joel Madden. Now that we?ve got gender out of the way, Star has this hilarious story about what Nicole?s favorite boy baby names are. Perhaps ?Jack? or ?Michael?? Oh, no, of course not. Nicole prefers the kind of baby names that Donald Trump would come up with - like ?Baron?. And to mix it up, Nicole also likes ?Martavious?. Oh, joy:

I actually like unusual names, because for my generation, I had a weird ?ethnic? name. So I really don?t think ?Kypher? is all that bad. They could call him Kyph (pronounced ?kife?). Little Kyph Madden… that?s cute. Perhaps they could save Martavious for the middle name the kid never acknowledges. But Baron? Just say ?no? to anything Donald Trump says ?yes? to, that?s my rule. Chances are that Star made up this whole story anyway.
Nicole was also on Larry King Live last night (quotes via Showbiz Spy), and she talked about how she and Joel aren?t in any kind of rush to get married, saying ?When I was a little girl I dreamed about getting married and that is definitely still a dream of mine one day… But right now, we?re really, really focused on our family, we?re focused on our foundation and as far as feeling that need of commitment, we both really have that in each other.? I?ve often wondered about that with Nicole - and I?ve come around to the conclusion that Joel is the one who probably wants to get married, and Nicole is the one saying no… just an opinion.
