| Brooke Shields broke her femur and had to relearn how to walk | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The year hasnt gotten off to a good foot (no pun intended) for Brooke Shields. Brooke has been painfully recovering from a broken femur that almost cost her the ability to walk again. Brooke accidentally took a tumble at her gym while doing some work on a balance board. Brooke fell off the board and broke her right femur. She had to be rushed to the hospital where she received several blood transfusions and two metal rods (initially) to hold the bone together. Unfortunately, Brookes femur was still unstable so she had to endure a second surgery that required her getting five more rods and a plate. And if that wasnt enough, after spending two weeks in the hospital, Brooke developed a staph infection when she returned home. Brooke had to be readmitted to undergo treatment for her bacterial infection. Brooke said she had to relearn how to walk and her normal attitude of powering through life did not apply for this situation. Below are a few more quotes which Brooke gave to People about what she went through:
It felt like it was all in slow motion. And then I just started screaming, says Brooke Shields of her accident at a downtown New York City gym in late January, when she fell off a balance board, flew up in the air and landed with such force that she broke her right femur.
Sounds came out that Ive never heard before, she tells PEOPLE.
Shields, 55, says the injury left her wondering if shed ever walk again. So when EMTs arrived to place her on a stretcher, survival kicked in, she says, so I kept saying, I can feel my toes because I was so afraid I was paralyzed.
She needed surgery to insert two metal rods, one from the top of my hip down, and another across into the hip socket, she explains. But after the broken portion of her right femur popped out, she immediately underwent a second surgery to add five rods and a metal plate to anchor it all in place.
I never considered myself Zen, she says, but I realized with a certain calm that the rest is up to me now.
After two-and-a-half weeks in the hospital, she went home and developed a very serious staph infection which required her to return for emergency surgery on the IV site where shed had three blood transfusions.
Rather than once-a-day physical therapy, Shields asked for twice-a-day workouts. But then she realized, for the first time in my entire life, I thought, I cant power through this, she recalls. I cant even stand on my leg or go up a step. I need to relearn how to even walk. The feeling of helplessness is shocking.
[From People]
I used to be a surgical technologist and assisted on many IM Nail (intermedullary rod insertion surgery) and internal fixation surgeries, especially when I lived in NYC. So many women specifically over a certain age (usually over 55-60) would break their femur when they would slip on the icy sidewalks in the winter. Often because of their age their bones were more brittle. What Brooke went through during a pandemic must have been traumatizing and I can definitely understand her fear of being paralyzed. From Brookes account it seems she landed hard on her back as well. Hopefully she is receiving the therapy she needs to heal (both emotionally and physically).
I am very happy to hear that Brooke did not develop a MRSA infection because that would have been so dangerous. It is so sad, too, that Brooke had to go through her earlier recovery alone due to COVID protocols. I cant imagine being afraid that I wont be able to walk again, going through several surgeries and having the fear of contracting COVID or a MRSA infection without seeing family. It all sounds quite painful but I am happy that she is able to walk. I am also sure that her recovery will be aided by the fact that she is healthy and fit. Watching Brooke struggle to walk up a few stairs in one of her Instagram videos (I added it below) was heartbreaking. However I can see the fighter in her. I like that Brooke said she had to learn not to power through but give herself the space to heal which is a very important distinction. Brooke is a national treasure to us 80s kids and she will always be the girl who wouldnt let anything get between her and her Calvins. I wish Brooke a speedy and full recovery.

| Brooke Shields tells daughters to use sunscreen after her skin cancer scares | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

People Magazine is doing a good job releasing details from their Most Beautiful issue. As Hecate has mentioned, theyre doing a 10 year challenge, where women who posed without makeup in 2009 are doing it again. So many of the celebrities have said theyre happier with their looks and just in general now, and thats true for Brooke Shields too. Weve already heard from Brooke about her thoughts on aging and staying fit. In this latest excerpt shes talking about the importance of sunscreen, particularly when it comes to teaching her daughters about preventing skin cancer. She also talked about her famous eyebrows and how shes grateful for them and how she thinks she looks younger than 53. She does look younger than 53, but you guys tell me not to use that as a compliment anymore. I love when people tell me I look younger than I am that so it will be a hard habit to break.
?I feel like look a lot younger, [Brooke Shields], 53, tells PEOPLE in the 2019 Beautiful issue. ?And yet, I still feel like I?m myself.?
[Shields] says her biggest beauty change in the last decade has been prioritizing her use of sunscreen due to health scares over the years.
After learning her lesson about sun protection, Shields now advises her daughters Rowan, 15, and Grier, 12, to start regularly applying sunscreen.
?I don?t want them having stuff cut off their face like I?ve had to in my later years,? [Shields] says. ?They just burn so easily. And whenever I have to get a procedure, something burned off, I show it to them. I say, ?You want this?? Getting stuff cut off my lip. There was an era where we were baking in the sun, and you can?t do it.?
?My eyebrows are my favorite thing because I don?t have to do much to them,? Shields says. ?They have thinned over the years, which is quite shocking, really. But they?ve always been such an important part of the way people see me. As I?ve grown older, I appreciate that I don?t have to use an eyebrow pencil.?
That?s another lesson Shields wants her teenagers with husband Chris Henchy to know: embrace your natural beauty. ?I think that it?s important for my kids to see in this age where there?s so much going on with makeup, to not forget that we?re as beautiful and should be as confident without makeup,? she says
I am in my place now where I feel like I actually look and feel the best that I have in decades.?
[From People]
Im very fair and have only had two sunburns as a child that I can remember. All of my day moisturizers have sunscreen, thats the easiest way to remember to use it. Im really lucky that my mom taught me to wear sunscreen from an early age. She grew up on Long Island in the 50s and 60s and they used to bake on the beaches. Shes since had treatments for skin cancer similar to what Brooke mentioned. My dad and mom both used cream from the dermatologist that brings out the skin cancer and helps get rid of it. The difference in their skin afterwards is amazing although it was hard for them to go through as your face gets scaly, red and blotchy while youre doing it. Ill admit that the main reason Ive always worn sunscreen though is to prevent wrinkles. I dont know how much it worked because I still have them, but maybe it would be worse if I didnt protect my skin so much.
As for her thoughts on going without makeup to show confidence, I always talk about that and you know my position on it. No one should have to prove anything by wearing makeup or not wearing it. Women should be able to make their own choices without pressure and that includes going without makeup as well.

I don’t know if I’ve ever done a post on Brooke Shields before, considering I’m pretty sure she was considered washed-up by the time I started this site. But I’m always willing to make an exception for any hottie looking to restart her career by posing in her underwear. So here’s Brooke looking pretty damn […]

Gearing up for the next phase of her career, Brooke Shields showed up at the MAC Cosemetics launch of the Brooke Shields Collection at the 5th Ave Flagship in New York City on Wednesday (October 1).
Joined by MAC global brand president Karen Buglisi and creative director James Gager, the ?Suddenly Susan? star worked the crowd like a seasoned pro and posed for plenty of photographs.
While chatting with People, Brooke commented on how her eyebrows have always seemed to get a ton of attention.
?I?m flattered, but it?s been so many years of that and when you get that label as a young kid, it?s hard to not think it?s ridiculous! My mom would always say to me, ?Don?t touch them.? And [modeling agency owner] Eileen Ford wanted me to bleach them because I was blonde [at the time]. But my mom just said, ?We?re leaving everything natural!'?

| Brooke Shields gained 10 lbs following knee injury, couldn't care less | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

This is a bizarre story that’s not a direct quote, but definitely sounds like something Brooke would say. Brooke Shields is very upfront about her issues, but she’s not oversharing every week like other celebrities. Brooke has shared her thoughts on aging in Hollywood, she’s admitted that she suffered from postpartum depression and sought help for it (you don’t know the history of psychiatry) and she’s talked about staying fit by exercising and eating less. When Brooke shares something about her life, you get the sense that she’s just being honest, not that she’s trying to get headlines or preach to the masses. So that’s why I believe this story that Brooke gained a little weight after a knee injury, and why I also believe that she doesn’t really care about it:
Once America?s preeminent sex symbol, Brooke Shields has put on 10 pounds in the past four months, and is ?adamant that she couldn?t care less? about it, a source told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

She?s always up for a fun-filled night, and Brooke Shields hosted a private Burlesque performance in New York City over the weekend.
The ?Lipstick Jungle? actress and Tina Turnbow turned up for an exclusive show at the swanky Nurse Bettie bar, where they were spotted having a wonderful time mingling amongst the scantily-clad performers and guests.
Aside from her burlesque soiree doings, Shields recently signed on to star in and executive produce an upcoming real-world drama turned adaptation called ?Little Pink House: A True Story of Defiance and Courage.?
The movie revolves around anti-emiment domain heroine Susette Kelo, who lost her little Pink house in a 2005 U.S. Supreme court ruling in which the court ruled that eminent domain could be used to take homes for private development projects - a decision that outraged the nation.

Brooke Shields looked a little long in the jowl at “The Tourist” premiere last night. I had to look twice just to make sure she wasn’t Hagrid’s dog in Harry Potter. But I knew it was her once I saw that hideous blouse. Fang would never be caught dead in such an unflattering neutral!

| PETA inevitably blasts Brooke Shields for endorsing fur | Added 15 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

It took a hot minute for PETA to go after Brooke Shields for her weirdly worded endorsement of the fur industry. Brooke visited a fur studio in Copenhagen this spring, during which time she made her own fur coat and then endorsed a statement written by a non-native English speaker about how awesome fur was and how it was every little girl’s dream. She supposedly said “I will wear the fur garment when I follow my children to school, when I drink coffee and when I sleep,” and that “I will advocate that both my generation and the younger generation can wear fur.” Yes, you and your daughters can wear fur, if you want to look like cruel bitches who don’t care about the plight of animals.
PETA was of course all over that, and went after Brooke, citing her fading career. This was just what Tom Cruise did when he disagreed with her confession to using antidepressants, and it doesn’t add to PETA’s case:
The animal-rights organization is lashing out at Shields for visiting Kopenhagen Fur’s workshop back in March and making comments such as “I will advocate that both my generation and the younger generation can wear fur” and “I will wear the fur garment when I follow my children to school, when I drink coffee and when I sleep.”
Not surprisingly, a post on PETA’s website reads: “When I was a little girl, I dreamed about growing up to be a rock star. Or maybe a veterinarian. Or a roller derby queen. I didn’t dream about anally electrocuting animals on fur farms, but apparently Brooke Shields did.”
But the criticism doesn’t stop there, with a few potshots at Shields’ livelihood thrown in for good measure.
“We understand that when some actors’ careers begin to fade, they’ll do just about anything to stay in the limelight, including appearing in eyelash-growing commercials and starring in short-lived TV shows,” continues the post. “But Brooke, did you really want the world to remember you as a ‘fur pimp’ who stares agog at rows of animal skins?”
[From E! Online]
I don’t know who I find more annoying, PETA or Brooke Shields. I actually liked Brooke before this whole debacle, so I would say that she’ll still slightly ahead and that it will ultimately depend on how she handles the fallout. Is she going to issue a statement clarifying her endorsement, or stay silent for fear of jeopardizing whatever she got paid for this? This incident speaks to both Brooke’s poor judgment and the sad fact that she’ll do just about any commercial. Jezebel ran a brief piece last summer “Why is Brooke Shields in every commercial?” in which they noted that she is a spokesperson for “Tupperware, Coppertone, Latisse, World Gold Council, Colgate, milk, Fertility Lifelines, and more.” I found a couple that Jezebel missed - Volkswagon and Godiva chocolate. What’s next for Brooke? Can she sink any lower than endorsing fur? Is her career as a celebrity spokesperson going to be jeopardized by an association with a fur company? We can only hope she becomes a little less ubiquitous.

Brooke Shields, who starred in that recent POS kids’ film, Furry Vengeance, loves fur so much that she made a custom fur coat at a Copenhagen studio. She also gave some confusing quotes praising fur. It’s all for cash, though, and we know that Brooke will endorse basically anything. I realize that no animals are going to go medieval on her ass and stage a forest revolt ripped off from Home Alone but I can dream. Now I’m getting flashbacks of that movie I was actively trying to forget, and I’ll never forgive Shields for that.
Brooke Shields visited Denmark in March to act out her ?little girl?s dream?: to design her own fur coat. The Hollywood star is thrilled with Kopenhagen Fur.
?Wearing fur may be associated with something grandmotherish. Something you wear when you visit the opera, or if you are a rock star and wears it inside out. But I will advocate that both my generation and the younger generation can wear fur?, says Brooke Shields.
The comment fell as the American actress visited Kopenhagen Fur?s creative workshop, Kopenhagen Studio early in March. Here she began designing her own mink coat made of the best Danish fur skins. Brooke Shields chose to work with the short-haired, black mink.
?Brooke Shields will be proud to be an exponent of the beautiful Danish fur skins in the U.S. She thinks that Kopenhagen Fur is very unique?, says Kopenhagen Studio?s Partnership & Alliance manager Natia Linneman and adds that the star has been intrigued by the way Kopenhagen Fur is organized and how the company centrally supports disease control and quality on fur farms etc…
The visit of Brooke Shields, who at the age of 15 became famous for her leading part in the movie The Blue Lagoon, was arranged in February during New York Fashion Week, where Kopenhagen Fur, in cooperation with the design house J. Mendel, had a major event in the city. J. Mendel also helps Brooke Shields to design her coat.
?I will wear the fur garment when I follow my children to school, when I drink coffee and when I sleep?, says Brooke Shields, who calls it a little girl?s dream to be able to design her own fur garment.
[From International Fur Trade Federation website via D-Listed]
I really hope they paid her for this and didn’t just comp her visit to Denmark and give her some fur swag. Her people should have signed of on those quotes because they’re worded like only a non-native English speaker would phrase them. “I will wear the fur garment when I follow my children to school” makes it sound like Brooke is this crazy homeless woman stalking some grade schoolers in a tattered fur coat, babbling about how it’s her precious. (Yes, Michael K at D-Listed said essentially the same thing, but I like to think that I would have come up with that on my own although that’s probably not the case.) Now that’s what I think of when I hear about fur, crazy homeless old ladies and stinky moth balls. Even rich semi-old ladies wearing “new” fur makes me think of down on their luck homeless people, like fur is this monkey paw type curse that brings you warmth and the illusion of wealth and leaves you with nothing in the end.
