Last fall Glamour Magazine declared that Brooke Shields was in ?Her F?k It Era.? Of course, my takeaway from that article was that overhydrating is your ticket to eating all the potato chips a girl could want. And then heaps more. But I digress? Brooke proved once again this weekend why Glamour got it right. She attended the Tony Awards on Sunday as a presenter, the first since being elected president of Actors? Equity. The only hitch was, she?d had double foot toe surgery three days prior. But no biggie! Brooke had arguably the most comfortable walk on the red carpet, as she posed for photographers proudly showing off the Lay?s chip brand sunshine yellow Crocs that perfectly matched her Monique Lhuillier dress:
Brooke Shields chose to forgo the standard red carpet shoe attire at Sunday?s 2024 Tony Awards ? for good reason.
Ditching the typical high-heels associated with such high-profile events, the actress wore clogs-style Crocs under her yellow dress. The shoes were the same color as her sequined gown. She showed off the shoes to photographers on Sunday night.
?I got my Crocs! I couldn?t do this in heels!? she said in a red carpet interview with People on Sunday.
The reason for the comfort attire? A day before the Tonys, Shields noted on Instagram that she was recovering from ?double foot toe surgery.? The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to her reps for additional information.
It?s not the first time Shields has matched clogs with high fashion. In 2008, she was spotted wearing a long hot-pink gown with matching clogs.
In May, Shields was elected president of the Actors? Equity Association, the union that represents about 51,000 actors and stage managers on Broadway and nationwide.
She beat out Erin Maureen Koster, a stage manager and third vp at Actors? Equity, and Wydetta Carter, an actor who had been serving as Equity?s first vp. Shields will serve a four-year term.
?I promise to lead with strength and compassion, and I will stand up for you and command the respect that we deserve as an acting community,? Shields wrote on Instagram following the vote. ?Also to those who ran, I did not run against you, I ran with you and for you. I look forward to listening to you.?
[From The Hollywood Reporter]
I do not wear high heels. It?s not a feminist statement, it?s a protest by my feet. There are many heels out there that I think are beautiful and very often complete ?a look.? It?s just that when I attempt movement in them, I look like some unholy mash-up of Humpty Dumpty and a newborn foal. Such is life. Rather than practice and try to improve my gait (because I?ve worn sneakers, my feet won?t stand for the stilt nonsense), I?ve taken the route of biding my time and waiting for the shoe revolution to break out on the red carpet. Our numbers are rising, victory is in sight.
So I wholeheartedly applaud Brooke for wearing Crocs, and I?d stand by that even if she hadn?t just had foot surgery. That being said? Brooke, honey, you know you can jazz up those kicks? They make Crocs for all occasions! Questlove continually ups his Oscars Crocs game with color, embellishments, and crystals. I know the shoe color matched the dress, but this is an awards show; we need more! It could?ve been as easy as some pearls to echo the earrings. Or random cupcakes to harken back to the mysterious dessert-art from her Actors? Equity campaign video. To close by quoting a Sondheim musical: ?So many possibilities??

| Brooke Shields and her daughter Grier got matching tattoos for Mother's Day | Added 217 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Happy (belated) Mother?s Day to those who celebrate! I spent mine gathering a urine sample from my fur baby, My Girl, which was immediately followed by a stranger asking if she was expecting. I responded as kindly as I could, ?Not pregnant, just fat.? Brooke Shields and her younger daughter, Grier Henchy, had a way cooler, certainly more sanitized activity to mark the day: they got matching tattoos. The sketch shows a woman?s feet in high heels standing next to little girl feet in the same adult-sized heels. Scott Campbell did the inking for Brooke and Grier, and later they both appeared on his Stupid Things for Love podcast to explain the meaning behind the design:
Brooke Shields and her 18-year-old daughter, Grier Henchy, celebrated Mother?s Day 2024 ? and her newfound adulthood ? by getting matching tattoos with an especially sweet meaning.
Tattoo artist Scott Campbell shared photos of the glamorous mom and daughter showing off their new ink on Instagram Sunday, along with a closeup of their matching high-heel tattoos.
Their design, which is sketched in black-and-white, features a child standing in too-big heels while standing toe-to-toe with her mom, who is wearing the same style of shoes.
Campbell ? who hosts the ?Stupid Things for Love? podcast ? interviewed Shields and Henchy for a special Mother?s Day episode on Sunday, and the ?Mother of the Bride? star, 58, shared the reasoning behind their shoe-themed tats.
?When she was still little, she would always just wear my shoes, no matter how teeny she was,? the actress said of her daughter, adding, ?her whole foot would fit into the toe box.?
The star said ?it was the cutest thing,? explaining how Grier would ?come out and have breakfast in her diaper and high heels, and then the night gown and high heels.?
?The tattoo you?re getting is so poetic of like, her growing into your shoes and wanting to be a model,? Campbell shared during the episode.
It seems like Grier has always admired her mother?s style, with the teen wearing Shields? old dresses on several occasions over the past year.
The budding model isn?t the only one who has a matching tattoo with mom.
Grier?s big sister, Rowan Henchy, 20, showed off a tiny ladybug tat on her ankle while posing with Shields on the ?Mother of the Bride? red carpet last week, while the ?Pretty Baby? star had the same design inked on her wrist.
?When my older daughter graduated from high school that was what she wanted, was to get a tattoo with me,? Shields shared during her podcast interview.
[From Page Six]
If ever I were to get a tattoo, I would want to do it like Brooke and Grier; a very specific design that evokes a personal memory. I also think it says a lot about how close both girls are with their mother, that as teenagers they?d request to get matching tattoos. I have a fun mom, but the thought of us getting tattoos together makes me laugh out loud. Between my squeamish-verging-on-histrionic behavior every time I need to get a shot or give blood, and my mother?s intense-approaching-dangerous-ticklishness every time she gets a pedicure, we?d be a menace to the parlor. We?d do damage to ourselves, the equipment, and other patrons.
In other Brooke Shields news ? no, not the results of her run for president of Actors Equity, those won?t come until May 23 ? she and Benjamin Bratt sat down with Entertainment Weekly to promote their Netflix movie, Mother of the Bride, and Brooke dropped some old tea on attending Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes? wedding in 2006. If you recall, it was on the heels of Cruise (who?s never given birth) publicly criticizing Brooke for taking medication to treat her postpartum depression. (Weird fact: Grier Henchy and Suri Cruise were born on the same day that year.) Cruise eventually apologized and then invited Brooke to the wedding, and that?s where her comments start:
?Of course, I was gonna say yes to that,? Shields says in a video. ?I was like, ?Yes. I will ? as long as I?m not the something old!??
According to Shields, Holmes then made a request. ?She goes, ?Oh, will you?? And I said, ?What? Bring myself as the something old???
?I had to, like, hunt antique places,? Shields said, ?to find the perfect, you know, gift to give her.?
Shields eventually found something appropriate ? and Victorian.
?It was a little compact that you put a ring?,? Shields said. ?So you?re supposed to be able to look at their reflection in it and have it around their finger.?
She added, ?It was really beautiful.?
What ended up not being so beautiful was the relationship between the bride and groom. They infamously split in June 2012.
[From Entertainment Weekly]
Ok, EW?s own transcript is wonky here, cause in the video Brooke clearly says that Katie clarifies, ?Will you bring the something old?? Which is crazy to ask of a relative stranger, no? But what?s absolutely killing me here is EW?s blunt transition to Cruise and Holmes splitting. No notes.

I really wish I could join a moms group with Brook Shields. Our kids are too old for us to be in a moms group and I?m sure she has other things she needs to do but every time she talks about parenting, I find myself reading a version of my own thoughts. I?ve said many times about how her book Down Came the Rain led me through my baby blues. I thought I was a monster before I heard her interviews during the promotion for the book. As she promotes her Netflix documentary, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, she appeared as a guest on Chelsea Handler?s Dear Chelsea podcast, and she said something that I swear I said to my husband just this past Saturday. For some background on Brooke, who was a child star, she was managed by her mother Teri Shields. Teri was the Kris Kardashian of her time. Only we found out later that Teri was an alcoholic and put Brooke in some precarious situations as a result of her drunken decision making. Brooke has two daughters of her own, Rowan, 19, and Grier, 16. Raising them has been a challenge because she?s had to navigate motherhood without a clear idea of what good mothering was like. One area that really surprised her in her own parenting was how open she is with her girls. They talk about everything without judgement. Since Teri never spoke to her about anything intimate, Brooke had no idea she would be able to be so free with her daughters.
Brooke Shields is giving herself praise for the way shes parented her two daughters Rowan, 19, and Grier, 16, after experiencing a complicated relationship with her own mother.
The 57-year-old model and actress spoke about her journey with motherhood on Chelsea Handlers Dear Chelsea podcast, where Shields talked about the difficulty in raising children. Even though Ive always wanted to have kids, its really not easy, she said of the two she shares with husband Chris Henchy. Sometimes loving that much, its just a pain in the ass.
After opening up about the reality of growing up with her mother Teri Shields in the 2014 memoir titled There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me, Shields shared that shes inclined to look at the positive things shes learned from her moms parenting style.
I had done so much work on myself in therapy for decades, that I focused on the things that I want to replicate, rather than just the things that I didnt want to replicate, Shields said, noting that comparing herself would be futile as her mom was so broken and couldnt do the work on herself or for herself.
Ways that Shields has made efforts to show up in a different way than her mother include being careful about my drinking because I know that [alcoholism] is in my blood. The mother-of-two has also cultivated an open flow of communication with her daughters than she ever had with her mom.
Im surprised at how much freedom emotionally I give my kids. I never thought that talking to them about sex ? because my mother never talked to me about anything. You just were told, Dont do it, youll burn in hell, and then I became sort of known for being a virgin, Shields reflected. We talk about everything together and I have no judgment and Im shocked at myself. I mean, we talk about it all and I didnt think that Id be comfortable with it on that level.
[From Yahoo!]
?I mean, we talk about it all and I didnt think that Id be comfortable with it on that level. This is the line that I basically said last weekend. I was being a little bit broader than just sex, but my thoughts were the same, that I was surprised with what I was comfortable speaking and hearing from my kids. We aren?t friends and there are boundaries, of course. But like Brooke was discussing, the relationship is where it is because of this openness. That?s the odd part for me. I thought was going to be more uptight than I am.
As for Brooke trying to find some good in Teri as a mother, I think acknowledging that there was something to appreciate is healthy. Brooke said she took from her mother humor and that Teri had a willingness to have fun with her. Brooke also said her mom, ?was ballsy and that protected me.? Teri was such a complicated person. She did protect Brooke in many ways and in others, she threw her to the wolves. I?m glad Brooke was able to work on herself enough to find balance as a mother. The best part is that she ended up with such a healthy relationship with her daughters. Sometimes over correcting for a lousy childhood can go too far in the other direction. But it sounds like Brooke was able to find that harmony.
And this is one of the top tenets of parenthood: Sometimes loving that much, its just a pain in the ass.

I didn?t know Broke shields had a podcast. I should probably assume everyone has a podcast and just be surprised to find out when they don?t at this point. I love Brooke, though, and her openness about her issues with her stage-manager mom Teri, her postpartum depression, her objectification at a young age and the issues growing up in the spotlight has helped countless people, myself included. On Tuesday?s episode of Now What? With Brooke Shields, she talked about telling the world she was a virgin back in 1985. My gawd, I remember that. It was the 80s so you told your parents you were a virgin, but you told you friends you?d ?totally done it.? The truth was somewhere in there. But the media definitely pushed the idea that we were all getting plowed in the upstairs guest room at a high school kegger. When Brooke announced she was a virgin after Pretty Baby and her Calvin Klein ads, it was, in fact, shocking. And a pain in the neck for Brooke, apparently. She said that her intention for the admission was to support girls who felt pressured by their boyfriends. The fallout was having to wear the title of the Most Famous Virgin in the World everywhere she went.
Brooke Shields doesnt regret any of her past ? but she might rethink publicly disclosing that she was a virgin.
On Tuesdays episode of her iHeart podcast, Now What? With Brooke Shields, the veteran actress and model answered friend Ali Wentworths question about whether Shields had many any poor choices as a young person.
I mean, I think it was, in hindsight, a bit of a mistake for me to be so open about my virginity because it never left me alone, Shields said.
She said the topic had come up in a 1985 book that, although it was credited to her, was actually written by someone else. On Your Own is a book of guidance for college-age women, released as Shields herself attended Princeton University. The Pretty Baby star said she had written an in-depth first chapter, but the publisher didnt want it.
They wanted a simple, stupid book, Shields said. Like, I like leg warmers.'
Shields addressed her sex life, because she wanted to help others.
In it, there was one part of a chapter, where I discuss ? not abstinence per se ? but owning your choice, she said. I would get a lot of fan mail from kids saying, Oh, my boyfriends pressuring me, and I dont want to have sex. What do I do? My narrative was, You dont have to do anything you dont want to.'
She recalled that it being very creepy that she then had to go on talk shows and speak to older men about the topic.
I became the most famous virgin in the world, she said. To be in the line of fire at such a young age in that way, I gained a resilience and it set me up to be ready for anything in this industry which can be difficult.
[From Yahoo!]
I remember those interviews. Brooke couldn?t talk about anything without having to answer a question about whether she was still a virgin. Each host hoped she?d say, ?Nope! Lost it last night,? and bag the exclusive. And everyone just allowed it because she?d brought it up. It makes it so much worse finding out Brooke?s hope was to stand in solidarity with women who didn?t want to be pressured into sex. Every time I want to wax poetic about the 80s I?m reminded of their underbelly. Honestly, I don?t know how any of us, but especially people like Brooke, made it out still standing.
What?s worse is I forgot that when Brooke actually did lose her virginity, it was to Dean Cain. At the time, I was hella jealous because my gawd he was so handsome. But being he?s become such a narrow-minded d*ckhead, I want a do-over for Brooke.

Brooke Shields has been staging a mid-life career comeback. After a rough start to the year and spending weeks in the hospital after breaking her femur at the gym, Brooke has been running full steam ahead. Brooke recently starred in Netflixs A Castle for Christmas movie and launched a lifestyle brand, Beginning is Now, for women over forty. Brooke is beating the drum that aging for women is not necessarily a bad thing. In an interview with Yahoo! Life, Brooke opened up about feeling sexier as she has gotten older. She said that it wasnt until her forties that she realized that sex was her experience and not someone elses she had to navigate. Brooke also said that women gain a vitality that expresses itself as we get older. A few highlights from Yahoo! Life:
On women getting sexier as they age:
I believe that its a misconception that women cant be sexy over a certain age. The acceptance of our bodies come at a later date. I live much more in my body now than I ever did.
My body actually feels like it belongs to me. And I cant say that about my youth.
I think there is a misconception that if you are not of childbearing ability, you dont seem to matter in the world. Because you do not keep the world going anymore. Theres vitality in us. And I think that shows itself sexually.
It shows itself with an adventure. It shows itself in confidence. We walk into rooms now and kind of think, well, I got nothing to lose. Theres an uncomplicated nature to it. Confidence is the sexiest thing that Ive ever encountered.
Im continually learning how to love myself. Its not something thats easy. Society doesnt make it easy for us. And then youve got social media, which doesnt make it easy.
On how her sexual experience has evolved
I wanted to market to that, to help women really sort of find the courage and take the chances, and the resilience, that theyve had to get this far and really kind of embrace the next chapter. Sex for me it has really evolved. My 20s, I was always terrified of it, because I was a virgin until I was 22.
And it wasnt until my 40s that I started thinking of sex as my experience, not someone elses experience that I just navigated. What I want my daughters to know is that its a joint decision. Even with as woke as everybody is, youd be shocked at how they see themselves within relationships.
On what she wants her daughters to know:
I dont want them ever to feel used. I want them to feel more in control and not ashamed of anything. I do have a wonderful husband who celebrates me. He loves me at every stage, which Im very blessed by.
[From Yahoo!]
Look, I am 45 and I have been beating this drum for years. The older I get the sexier I feel. And I will not get into how our sex drive goes through the roof. Since this is a SFW site I will avoid the details but what I will say is that Brooke is right. I have more confidence and I am able to communicate what I want without shame or fear. I love how Brooke is educating her daughters about sex. Women have a long way to go to escape patriarchal ideals.
I am also enjoying how Brooke is addressing ageism. If more women speak about embracing aging, it will become less of a taboo. I love the wisdom I have gained over the years, the interpersonal skills that I definitely did not have in my twenties and my ability to say no and walk out of toxic situations. I also am feeling myself more than I did in my insecure twenties. I honestly would never want to go back to my twenties and thirties although I wouldnt mind having my body from my 33rd year but thats a different conversation. Anyway, I have signed up for Brookes site and I am looking forward to any more gems that she may have to drop.

Brooke Shields has had a tough but exciting year. In January, Brooke broke her femur in a gym incident that required her to undergo several surgeries during the height of Covid. The surgeries left her with a staph infection that required her to be hospitalized for several weeks. Brooke said she had to relearn how to walk but avoided taking opiods. Brooke is in a new Netflix romcom, A Castle for Christmas, and she is launching her own lifestyle brand called Beginning is Now. Brooke started Beginning is Now because she got tired of the messaging that women are only sexy in their youth. In an interview with The Today Show, Brooke discussed her upbringing as a child actress, going to Princeton, her complicated relationship with her overprotective mom, and her new lifestyle brand. Here are a few highlights. The interview is embedded below:
On being grounded as a young adult
You have to have this sixth sense for people and for BS. I always went to school, I never moved up to LA. Not being surrounded by people in the industry gave me a bit of perspective.
Her mom protected her
She was hated because no one could get near me, but she also taught me manners, ethics, raised me as good Catholic girl. That kind of work ethic makes you say ?I?m going to just keep going.?
On going to Princeton
It didn?t occur to me not to go. I had been working for so long [that] by then it was almost like a vacation. I didn?t think about [my career] because thankfully I was in for a real shock after college.
On her lifestyle brand ?Beginning is Now?
I feel stronger, I feel sexier. Why aren?t we allowed to be sexy in our 50s? Why is it 20s or Depends? Why can?t we be celebrated for what our next chapter is. The women that I know are self sufficient, they?re not looking to be saved by anybody. They say ?what?s next, this can?t be it? I?m not done.?
[From The Today Show on YouTube]
It really is good seeing Brooke Shields again. I plan to watch her new movie A Castle for Christmas. My mom watched it over the weekend and loved it. I had been tracking Brookes recovery from her broken femur. It was so hard to watch her learn how to walk again but it was awe inspiring to see how strong and determined Brooke was in her recovery. I find it fascinating that Brooke went to Princeton. I also thought it was interesting that she felt that going to an Ivy League School was like a vacation from her life as a model and actress. I am sure being a star from damn near birth must have been taxing.
I agree with her that women get sexier as they age (at least I feel sexier). In fact, right before I watched this interview my mom, my friend Cindy and I were discussing how a lot of women in the industry mess up their faces and bodies trying to maintain this image of eternal youth instead of just embracing the side of themselves that aging illuminates. It is sad that women are made to feel that they must remain spring chickens to be desirable. I do not put this sort of stress on myself and at forty-five, I have embraced aging (but I hate those damn creaky joints). I hope that we will continue to see Brooke. My spidey senses are telling me that Brooke is primed for a midlife comeback. And why not?

Brooke Shields has gone through so much recently. She had a harrowing medical ordeal last year after fracturing her femur in a gym accident. Brooke was in the hospital for two weeks after her leg surgery. When she finally got home she got sepsis and had to be rushed into emergency surgery. Now she?s on the other side of her health issues and is experiencing milestones with her family. Her daughter, Rowan, 18, recently went to the prom. The notable thing about this story is that Rowan wore Brooke?s 1998 gown from the Golden Globes! Here?s People?s writeup on this:
Brooke Shields, 56, shared a photo of herself and daughter Rowan Francis, 18, looking stunning in the strapless red gown her mother originally wore to the 1998 Golden Globes. It was the year Shields earned her second nomination for her NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan.
I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom, Shields wrote in the Instagram caption Saturday. Proud mama!
She shares daughters Rowan and Grier Hammond, 15, with screenwriter husband Chris Henchy, 57, whom she married in 2001. The family lives together in New York City.
[From People]
Rowan is the same daughter who smacked Brooke in the face with her purse for a TikTok challenge, but that was a year ago and I?m sure it?s long forgotten. (I would be mentioning it up for guilt purposes still, but only when I needed to bring out the big guns.) I love that Rowan wore her mom?s dress from 23 years ago, that?s incredible. Plus the dress is killer. I wonder if the shawl was still around too and if Rowan chose not to wear it. I assume Brooke lent her that Hermes purse too, that looks like a classic.
Meanwhile Jennie Garth made her daughter Lola?s prom dress based on a drawing Lola made. Jennie wrote that she was proud because it was the first dress she made and it turned out so well. It did! I?m including the Instagram with photos below. My prom dress was made by a seamstress to my specifications. My mom can sew but I appreciate that she wasnt that ambitious about it. I have so many memories of prom. My son?s first prom was this year and it was special for me to see him go to that. They grow up so incredibly fast! I?m not looking forward to him leaving the house but we still have another year.

| Brooke Shields broke her femur and had to relearn how to walk | Added 3 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
The year hasnt gotten off to a good foot (no pun intended) for Brooke Shields. Brooke has been painfully recovering from a broken femur that almost cost her the ability to walk again. Brooke accidentally took a tumble at her gym while doing some work on a balance board. Brooke fell off the board and broke her right femur. She had to be rushed to the hospital where she received several blood transfusions and two metal rods (initially) to hold the bone together. Unfortunately, Brookes femur was still unstable so she had to endure a second surgery that required her getting five more rods and a plate. And if that wasnt enough, after spending two weeks in the hospital, Brooke developed a staph infection when she returned home. Brooke had to be readmitted to undergo treatment for her bacterial infection. Brooke said she had to relearn how to walk and her normal attitude of powering through life did not apply for this situation. Below are a few more quotes which Brooke gave to People about what she went through:
It felt like it was all in slow motion. And then I just started screaming, says Brooke Shields of her accident at a downtown New York City gym in late January, when she fell off a balance board, flew up in the air and landed with such force that she broke her right femur.
Sounds came out that Ive never heard before, she tells PEOPLE.
Shields, 55, says the injury left her wondering if shed ever walk again. So when EMTs arrived to place her on a stretcher, survival kicked in, she says, so I kept saying, I can feel my toes because I was so afraid I was paralyzed.
She needed surgery to insert two metal rods, one from the top of my hip down, and another across into the hip socket, she explains. But after the broken portion of her right femur popped out, she immediately underwent a second surgery to add five rods and a metal plate to anchor it all in place.
I never considered myself Zen, she says, but I realized with a certain calm that the rest is up to me now.
After two-and-a-half weeks in the hospital, she went home and developed a very serious staph infection which required her to return for emergency surgery on the IV site where shed had three blood transfusions.
Rather than once-a-day physical therapy, Shields asked for twice-a-day workouts. But then she realized, for the first time in my entire life, I thought, I cant power through this, she recalls. I cant even stand on my leg or go up a step. I need to relearn how to even walk. The feeling of helplessness is shocking.
[From People]
I used to be a surgical technologist and assisted on many IM Nail (intermedullary rod insertion surgery) and internal fixation surgeries, especially when I lived in NYC. So many women specifically over a certain age (usually over 55-60) would break their femur when they would slip on the icy sidewalks in the winter. Often because of their age their bones were more brittle. What Brooke went through during a pandemic must have been traumatizing and I can definitely understand her fear of being paralyzed. From Brookes account it seems she landed hard on her back as well. Hopefully she is receiving the therapy she needs to heal (both emotionally and physically).
I am very happy to hear that Brooke did not develop a MRSA infection because that would have been so dangerous. It is so sad, too, that Brooke had to go through her earlier recovery alone due to COVID protocols. I cant imagine being afraid that I wont be able to walk again, going through several surgeries and having the fear of contracting COVID or a MRSA infection without seeing family. It all sounds quite painful but I am happy that she is able to walk. I am also sure that her recovery will be aided by the fact that she is healthy and fit. Watching Brooke struggle to walk up a few stairs in one of her Instagram videos (I added it below) was heartbreaking. However I can see the fighter in her. I like that Brooke said she had to learn not to power through but give herself the space to heal which is a very important distinction. Brooke is a national treasure to us 80s kids and she will always be the girl who wouldnt let anything get between her and her Calvins. I wish Brooke a speedy and full recovery.
