Last night was the premiere of Melancholia, the Lars Von Trier film that looks awful. So awful that Lars Von Trier said a bunch of crap about Nazis and then got banned from the film festival. So awful that between Kiki Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg, barely anyone cares. And only Charlotte Rampling comes out ahead. Many of you liked Kiki?s mustardy dress at the photo call yesterday, and I have to say, she did pull it off. However, for the premiere, she wore this tragic Rodarte. I think this junk looks like upholstery. And cheap upholstery at that. But I?ll give Kiki credit - she looks ?put together?. She doesn?t look wasted and like she just threw something on. Her makeup and hair are gorgeous, it?s just the dress that I hate.
Meanwhile, CB and I were arguing about Charlotte?s ensemble. I kind of like it, because I?ve watched Charlotte?s style evolution through the years, and this is one of her sexiest looks, in my opinion. She usually dresses kind of hipster, lots of Marc Jacobs and high collars and not a lot of skin showing. So this is new - and I love that she did it while super-pregnant. CB thinks it?s kind of trashy and fug, and most fashion sites agree. WHATEVER. I like it.

She?s been living it up at this year?s Cannes Film Festival, and Kirsten Dunst was the center of attention at the Palais des Festivals ?Melancholia? premiere on Wednesday (May 18).
The ?Bring It On? babe looked gorgeous in a designer gown as she worked it for the cameras on the red carpet alongside a heavily pregnant Charlotte Gainsbourg, as well as actress Jodie Foster, rocker Ronnie Wood and his lady Ana Araujo.
During the film?s press conference earlier in the day, ?Melancholia? director Lars von Trier made some rather inappropriate comments causing Dunst to squirm in her seat.
Joking about the next project he plans to make with Kirsten, Lars told, ?She wants a really really hard core film this time and I am doing my best ... we just want to have a lot of very unpleasant sex and thats what I am writing right now and it is going to be three or four hours long.?
Telling the story of "two sisters who find their relationship challenged as a nearby planet threatens to collide into the Earth," Miss Dunst's new movie is set to hit theaters in the States on November 4th of this year.

At the Cannes photocall for the Lars von Trier-directed Melancholia, Kirsten Dunst breezed through as a (mostly) polished-up version of her usual grungy self in a sunshiney golden dress, red lipstick, and tastefully restrained jewelry. I do like the cut of this dress and the fabric is gorgeous as well, but something about how it’s put together (the waist?) seems a little bit matronly. Still, Kiki pulls it off and manages to look rather endearing here.
That is, she looks pretty good until we get to the feet. Why bother with a manicure without a pedicure to match? Also, I’m not loving these sandals, which probably cost more than most of my shoes combined but look like they came from Walmart.
Also present at the photocall was Kiki’s Melancholia co-star, Charlotte Gainsbourg, who is quite pregnant and (presumably) deemphasizing her bump in an all black outfit. Somehow, she pulls it off without looking like a douche (unlike, say, the hattastic Adrien Brody). How to explain this discrepancy? I’ve got no idea except to point towards the fact that Charlotte is French, so she should be allowed to wear black in Cannes.
Much further along on the bad behavior scale would be Danish director Lars von Trier, who “pulled a Mel Gibson” by turning a Cannes press conference into a rather tasteless joke about how he’s a Nazi who loves Jews but sympathizes with Hitler. All of the following verbal diarrhea arrived in response to a question about von Trier’s Germanic ancestry:
“For a long time I thought I was a Jew and I was happy to be a Jew,” [von Trier] began, “then I met (Danish and Jewish director) Susanne Bier and I wasn?t so happy. But then I found out I was actually a Nazi. My family were German. And that also gave me some pleasure. What can I say? I understand Hitler…I sympathize with him a bit.”
Von Trier qualified that “I don’t mean I’m in favor of World War II and I’m not against Jews, not even Susanne Bier” before digging himself deeper. “In fact I’m very much in favor of them. All Jews. Well, Israel is a pain in the ass but…”
As Melancholia stars Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg, sitting on either side of Von Trier, stared at him agog, the director paused.
“Now how can I get out of this sentence? Ok. I’m a Nazi.”
It was a grandiose performance by European cinema?s premiere enfant terrible as Von Trier managed to shock just about everyone in the room. And also made them laugh with the sort of chuckle that gets caught in the throat.
The Nazi comments came at the end of a sprawling routine in which Von Trier said his new movie “may be crap…there’s quite a big possibility that it might not be worth seeing” and mused that his next project with Dunst and Gainsbourg would be a 3 to 4 hour porn film “with lots of uncomfortable sex.”
Von Trier’s deadpan delivery and cheerful cherub-like smile hinted to the audience that everything was one big joke.
Certainly no one took the director seriously when, asked if he would like to do a film on a larger scale, answered: “Yes. We Nazis like to do things on a big scale. Maybe I could do The Final Solution.”

Of course, it’s always wise to never take anything seriously if it comes out of von Trier’s mouth, but I do believe he’s gone too far with this little off-topic rant. There’s such a thing as being “politically incorrect” and then there’s also such a thing as being “an insensitive, unfunny jerk.” Not to mention a self-indulgent, pretentious circle jerk as well. Stepping out for a promotional appearance, Kirsten Dunst was spotted at the photo call for ?Melancholia? in Canes today (May 18).
The ?Crazy/Beautiful? babe looked lovely in a yellow dress as she posed outside the Palais des Festivals as part of the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
?Melancholia? is about a bride who learns that a planet is headed for earth just after her wedding in Sweden.
And the cast is somewhat of an ensemble, as Kiefer Sutherland, Stellan Sarsgard, Alexander Sarsgard, Charlotte Giansbourg, and Udo Kier all star.

What is Karl Lagerfeld smoking lately? Blake Lively’s Chanel gown was a half toga over a bodysuit with silver applique and Kirsten Dunst showed up in this. This is like Swiss Miss meets Bavarian folk singer without a hint of sexy. I wonder if there could be even more going on with that hideous boxy dress and if someone showed restraint with this design. It’s got stripes, it’s got sequins, it has flowers and it’s off the shoulder but has straps and some gems at the double neckline. All it needs is a ruffle at the bottom.
Kirsten knows she looks like all sorts of hell too, and her expression is like “yeah, what am I going to do about it at this point?” She has on Pink lipstick, blue eyeshadow, and took a wave iron to her hair to complete the look.
Also, those witchy shoes are really ugly, and what’s more is that they’re a repeat. They seem to be the same exact shoes she wore to the 2009 Costume Institute Gala, when her dress was still fug, but a little more fashion forward.

I didn?t know/remember that Kirsten Dunst had a boyfriend, or that she had been dating the guy for something like a year already. The guy is Jason Boesel, and he?s the drummer for Rilo Kiley. These are photos of Kiki and Jason out and about over the weekend - he?s crazy tall! I love tall guys. Kiki looks really low-key too - I hope she didn?t want to be pap?d like this. Still, they make a cute couple, and it?s interesting to think that Kiki has had a boyfriend this whole time that the tabloids were reporting crazy stories about her drunken shenanigans. Oh, and The Mail says Boesel came to London with Kiki last month for London Fashion Week. That?s cute!
In other news, Kiki is one of the new faces of Bulgari, and she was recently asked about whether she would ever consider doing her own fashion line. Kiki told WWD, ?I wouldn?t want my own entire fashion line, but I?d do a collaboration, a one-off? I wouldn?t say no, it sounds like fun.? God, I hope she doesn?t. I usually think Kiki has horrible taste in clothes. She has no idea what looks flatter her body and coloring.
So here?s a question - if you?re anything like me and you didn?t know Kiki had a boyfriend this whole time, are you impressed that she?s been so low-key about her relationship for more than a year? I am.

Adding to her already impressive resume, Kirsten Dunst has been selected to represent Bulgari in a new fragrance ad campaign.
The ?Crazy/Beautiful? babe will serve as the face of Mon Jasmin Noir, a new scent set to hit stores all over the world this April.
Additionally, Ms. Dunst will make an appearance at the Mon Jasmin Noir launch during Milan Fashion Week later this month.
