Mena Suvari is expecting her first child at 41 with her husband of two years, Michael Hope. I wanted to cover this because we rarely get the chance to talk about her. She was bigger earlier in my gossip career, in the mid-2000s. Mena just isn?t a self-promoter or a hustler and she?s content working steadily and doing her thing. She reminds me a little of Julia Stiles that way, they?re both strong actresses who seem like decent people and aren?t trying to be famous. They could be more popular if they were posting constant photos to Instagram or telling personal stories, but they rarely do that. In fact the last time we covered Mena was over two years ago! Meghan posted a photo showing her pregnancy in a cute sweater dress. She wrote a sweet caption to her baby boy and gave People an exclusive interview describing how hard she worked to get pregnant. She tried for months to conceive and when she let it go it finally happened for her. She?s due this Spring. Here?s what she wrote on Instagram and more from her interview with People:
The greatest, most precious gift has come our way. Through all the trauma, through all the struggle, through all the doubt, our little angel has chosen us. I will never have enough words to describe my love for this beautiful soul coming into our lives, but I wont ever stop trying to give him the best life possible. You?re all I?ve ever wanted and the most important thing that will ever matter.

On trying to get pregnant for a few months
Its still this process for me of believing it and accepting that something this beautiful could happen for me, says Suvari, who will welcome her son next spring. Its been a very emotional experience. Its very weird finding out ? I was like, I cant believe it!
Ive had to learn how to be a different way with my appetite and my sleep habits and not pushing myself, asking for help ? all these things are hard for an independent woman! the mom-to-be tells PEOPLE
Earlier this year, Suvari and Hope decided to actively start trying for a baby ? and what ensued was months of an emotional rollercoaster met with its fair share of disappointment.
I was recording my temperature every morning and peeing on these ovulation sticks You expect that itll happen and it didnt. I got to this place where I felt overwhelmed and stressed out.

I was like, I cant do this anymore. Im so tired of stressing over this. I was trying to feel like if its meant, its meant, she adds. I was being really open like the Aquarian that I am ? if this is my path or not.
Suvari shifted her focus back to her work, traveling to Georgia in mid-July to film on location. It was there, she recalls, that she suddenly felt a sudden shift in her body.
At first I thought I was having jet lag because Im really sensitive, Suvari remembers. By the end of July, I had a couple of other symptoms and I decided to take a test and there it was. It was a huge surprise, an absolute miracle!
Suvari continues, It was something that weve always wanted, but a couple months before, I had stopped calculating. I pulled back and let go, which apparently they say that thats when it happens.
Shes doing a home birth with a midwife
When I thought of what I wanted, [my midwife is] like the embodiment of Mother Earth. I was like, this is the vibe that I want, she says of having a natural birth plan. I know none of these things we can control and so much of it changes. Well find out what the real deal is, but thats my plan and I hope it can go that way.
Im still falling into that place and just feeling so honored that he came to us, she says. Its all I ever wanted for years. Even before I met my husband, I always wanted a little boy and it just feels so beautiful and special.

She really laid out her journey for People and I?m impressed with how open and matter-of-fact she was about it. I can?t imagine going through months of trying to get pregnant and my heart goes out to women who deal with that. I also like how she?s spiritual about her baby and what she?s gone through. Thats who she is. Plus shes planning on a home birth but sounds realistic about it. Also at first I thought that she was naming the baby Hope and got confused that it?s a boy! Then I realized it?s her husband?s last name so that makes sense. I predict a somewhat unique but not too weird baby name. Congratulations to Mena and Michael!

Mena Suvari is divorcing Simone Sestito which means we get to listen to Simone’s excuses as to why he should get the $17,000/month in spousal support he’s asking for.
In recently filed court docs, Sestito says he has “negative balances” on all his personal and business accounts and has to pay his bills with credit cards and loans from his parents. I fail to see how his terrible moneymanagementskill is Mena Suvari’s problem, but do go on.
Sestito claims he’s now used to eating out “almost everyday at high end restaurants” making his monthly food expenses $3,000/month. Which makes perfect sense because that $30 burger tastes way different than the $8 one. The ground baby panda bones give it a sort of kick.
Suvari’s ex wants $17,151/month in spousal support and $10k to pay off his attorney. Which means he wants Mena to pay for his lawyer who’s trying to squeeze money out of her. While he’s at it, why not ask Mena to punch herself in the face too.
Mena’s lawyer, Mark Gross, laughed for 10 minutes and toldTMZ, “it is unfortunate that Simone has chosen the spotlight of litigation overtheprivacy of mediation.”

Giving their Aussie fans some love, the cast of ?American Reunion? attended the big premiere in Melbourne today (March 7).
Series favorites Tara Reid, Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Seann William Scott all showed and hammed it up for the press before heading inside for the screening.
?American Reunion? looks like it?s going to be yet another hilarious installment for the rowdy class of 1999.
Per the synopsis, ?Jim, Michelle, Stifler, and their friends reunite in East Great Falls, Michigan for their high school reunion.? It hits theaters April 6th.

This should be evidence enough that:
A) It?s really, really slow today for gossip, and I blame both Linnocent and Moammar Gaddafi.
B) It was either this or a story about Paris Hilton.
C) Mena Suvari?s hair is bad enough that I?ve withdrawn my embargo on writing about people I barely care about.
D) I have very strong, negative opinions about busted wiglets and bangs trauma.
So these are photos of Mena Suvari at two different events this week. The pics where she?s in a sleeveless black dress are from last night?s Breast Cancer charity dinner, and the ones where she?s wearing the black dress with cap-sleeves are from a David Yurman event a few nights ago. Mena is debuting her new hairstyle, only no one really paid attention. Except for me, I guess.
Is it just me, or does it really and truly look like a wig? I?m not entirely convinced that Mena DID cut her hair. I think she just felt like having some temporary bangs trauma, just to see what it was like (devastating!). This is just the wrong cut to frame her face. Everything is too blunt, she needs some ?softness? to make her face look less drag-queeny.
By the way, Mena signed on to the fourth (fifth?) American Pie film, American Reunion. Here?s the Red Band trailer, which doesn?t feature her at all.

Actress Mena Suvari, 31, was married to music producer Simon Sestito, 25, in a private church in Vatican City on Saturday. Sestito is of Italian-Canadian descent and the couple reportedly chose the location in order to accommodate the groom’s family in Italy. It is the second marriage for Suvari, who was married to German cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, 17 years her senior, for five years until their divorce in 2005. After splitting from Brinkmann, Suvari briefly dated a younger breakdancer. Sesito and Suvari met in 2007 at the Toronto film festival and were engaged a year later.
Suvari is best known as the ingenue in American Beauty and for her role in American Pie, which she wisely did not follow up in any of the sequels.
The news comes from People, which includes a quote from a guest that “The ceremony was truly unique and Mena looked breathtaking.”
Mena tweeted the news last weekend in advance of her trip to Rome:

There aren’t any photos of the wedding that I can find although Suvari did share some travel photos on Twitter. Suvari could definitely use the publicity from some lovely wedding photos, and I wouldn’t blame her for releasing some. The fact that there were no paparazzi present (that we know of at this point) makes me think that Suvari was more focused on her special day than on her career. Congratulations to Suvari and Sesito and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together!
