Giving their French fans a thrill, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston showed up at the premiere of ?Thor: The Dark World? in Paris last night (October 23).
The ?War Horse? hunk donned a black suit and tie combo as he posed outside Le Grand Rex Theatre with the ?Garden State? gal and several industry bigwigs.
In the flick, Natalie gets to rough up her hunky costars, including Chris Hemsworth, and it turns out she really enjoyed the experience.
"I found it very satisfying. I think it's on behalf of all my girlfriends who had guys that didn't call them back or disappeared or just fell off the face of the earth."
However given Hemsworth?s height advantage, Portman had to come up with creative ways to reach high enough to strike- "There were sort of like secret boxes of ramps or something that they would sneak in there so I could be closer to him, otherwise there would be no way I could hit his face if I tried. I'd be like jumping and trying to reach his cheek."

A few weeks ago, I covered Natalie Portman?s Elle UK interview, and people really freaked out. I didn?t really get it. Natalie was talking (out of her ass) about feminism, claiming: ?The fallacy in Hollywood is that if you?re making a ?feminist? story, the woman kicks ass and wins. That?s not feminist, that?s macho. A movie about a weak, vulnerable woman can be feminist if it shows a real person that we can empathize with.?
I understood what she was trying to say, that a lot of characters are labeled ?feminist? when really they?re just dudes in ?feminist? drag, or that ?feminism? means that every woman has to kick-ass and take names. And she?s right about that, but I took exception to the idea that ?a movie about a weak, vulnerable woman can be feminist if it shows a real person that we can empathize with.? I used the example of Bella Swan in Twilight ? she?s a weak, vulnerable character throughout much of the series, and many young girls

| Natalie Portman in Dior for the UK 'Thor' premiere: cute or a baked potato disaster' | Added 11 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I have to give Natalie Portman some credit here: if it wasn?t for her presence, the photos from the Thor 2: The Dark Loki UK premiere might have been a total sausage party. While I think it?s lame that Marvel is barely interested in hiring women, at least the few Marvel women (Natalie, Kat Dennings, Scarlett Johansson) show up and try to make it a gender-diverse red carpet.
Now, that being said, I really dislike what Natalie is wearing. WTF is this? It?s Dior, obviously. I don?t even know what?s going on with Dior these days. The past few collections have been especially unflattering and budget-looking. If you didn?t know this was Dior, what would your fashion ID be on this look? That sweater is simple enough ? it could be J.Crew or Land?s End. The skirt is just awful though ? it?s like a Project Runway Fail. Like, the challenge was ?try to make a woman look like a baked potato? and this is what the amateur designer came up with. And don?t even get me started on that damn ponytail. WTF Natalie? Was this really your best style option?!
Also ? Natalie spoke to E! News about getting to slap both Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth. Apparently, she?s so small that they had to let her stand on a crate so she could reach up high enough to slap Chris. Chris makes it sound like Natalie?s too tiny to ever hurt him, but Tommy makes it sound like Natalie actually did hurt him. Tommy is so delicate.
I?m also including photos of Kat Dennings who was also at the premiere and OMG, her dress sucked too. The bodice was much too tight and it made her breasts look monolithic. Plus, that skirt thing is an absolute tragedy. Update: Kat’s dress is vintage Lanvin. Terrible.

Kicking off a day of media duties, Natalie Portman headed over to BBC Radio 1 in London, England on Tuesday morning (October 22).
The ?Garden State? starlet was in the house to promote her forthcoming film ?Thor: The Dark World,? slated to hit theaters November 8th, and she seemed to be in good spirits on her way inside.
In the superhero flick, Portman gets to manhandle two hunky studs- Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston- and she thoroughly enjoyed displaying her girl power.
Natalie noted, "I found it very satisfying. I think it's on behalf of all my girlfriends who had guys that didn't call them back or disappeared or just fell off the face of the earth."

As I previewed yesterday, Natalie Portman covers the new issue of Marie Claire (to promote Thor 2: The Dancing Loki), and I still think this is one of the worst Portman editorials I?ve ever seen. You can think whatever you want of her personality, but Natalie is a beautiful woman and you really have to TRY to make her look this washed out and dead-eyed and like a Twilight extra. Marie Claire released part of their cover story ? you can read it here ? and there are some interesting quotes:
On L.A. and moving to Paris: ?I just really really love it here. It?s one of the most exciting places to be in the world right now. It?s really central in terms of the arts. It feels like things are happening in L.A., you know? New York is more where art is bought than where art is made? I?m really lucky. When Ben [husband Ben Millipied] asked me if I wanted to go to Paris, I freaked. Everyone dreams of living in Paris.?
Speaking French: Describing her grasp of French as “OK,” Portman, who is fluent in Hebrew, says she can get through a conversation. “I mean, not about, like, philosophy,” she explains. “But about this and that, I can manage.”
On Thor co-star Chris Hemsworth: ?Chris is, like, one of the greatest people in Hollywood. He?s the kind of actor who?s so charismatic, he must be tired when he goes home.?
On confrontation: ?I don?t like confrontation, but I?m probably less afraid of it now. I wouldn?t say I?m confrontational. But I say my opinion. I realize how much nonconfrontation was about trying to have everyone like me.?
On making highbrow and lowbrow films: ?I grew up around a lot of snobbism about what was important and what was serious, and I really reject that.?
On fans: ?People are really cool, by and large. I try and stay away from drunk people ? that?s when they start getting rude and aggressive, like, ?Why did you suck in that movie???
What her parents did right: ?They made me feel that they would drop anything at any time to help me. I never felt like there was anything more important than me. Which I know can probably create an a–hole, too. It gives you a deep sense of security and safety to feel that your parents will love you no matter what.?
On interviews: ?I’d never do them if I didn?t have to”
On the mess that is Jane Got a Gun: “It was very challenging,” Portman says diplomatically. “Everyone came together, but it was hard emotionally.”
Her vices: “I bite my cuticles,” she offers, apologetically. “Oh, and I can go into a Food Network hole.”
Typecast in ?Jewish? roles: “Like, every Jewish role comes to me,” she says, laughing. Even now, when everyone from Mila Kunis to Scarlett Johansson is of the faith? ?I look more Jewish than Scarlett,? Portman deadpans.
[From Marie Claire]
I think there are two notable quotes here. First: ?I grew up around a lot of snobbism about what was important and what was serious, and I really reject that.? Er. Seriously? This is not a comedian defending his love of fart jokes. This is Natalie Portman, the Queen of Holier-Than-Thou, defending her career choices, I think. What it shows is that Natalie has different standards for the art she creates and the ?art? other people create. Just my opinion. The second quote: ?I never felt like there was anything more important than me. Which I know can probably create an a–hole, too.? Precisely. At least she?s showing a sliver of self-awareness.
Interestingly enough ? and yet more grist for the conspiracy mill ? Darren Aronfsky gave some quotes for Natalie?s interview too. Aronfsky said: ?She’s a very private person. But because she’s been in the spotlight since she was so young and she’s so beautiful, there’s this real attention on her. Usually people who are haunted by the paparazzi say they don’t want it, but they do. Natalie has no interest in that. She’s not playing that game.” Fascinating.

Here are some photos from Natalie Portman?s new Marie Claire cover shoot. She covers the November issue and? this is far from her best editorial, right? I feel like they lightened her skin? Everything looks like p0rn lighting. Anyway, this is just a preview ? Marie Claire hasn?t released the interview yet. I guess she?s just promoting Thor: The Dark Loki. She already covered the latest issue of Elle UK (with an interview by Tom Hiddleston).
You know that Natalie and her family are moving to Paris in short order, right? I think they?ve spent much of the past year splitting their time between LA and New York, plus whatever locations Natalie has been for work, but now Benjamin Millepied got a job as ?the director of dance? at the Paris Opera Ballet so Natalie is going to be very French very soon. She?s excited too, saying: ?Yes and we’re very excited. My husband has made me director of dance at the Paris Opera Ballet and starts next year. I love Paris. I’ve worked there for a few months at a time, but neither of us ever lived there before – my husband is from Bordeaux. It’s everyone’s dream to live in Paris at least for a while, so there is a wonderful opportunity for us.”
Natalie is also really excited about what the Paris move will mean for her vegetarian and vegan diet. She recently said: ?I’ve been vegetarian since I was nine and vegan on and off. At the moment we live in Los Angeles near Thai Town so we eat a lot of good vegan Thai food and there are also great pasta places nearby – a good pasta is probably my favorite dish. Paris is getting better for vegans – you can get anything there if you know where to look.” Huh. Is Paris really a paradise for vegetarians? All that bread and cheese, for sure. I would imagine that Paris is hard on vegans though, right?

I told you last Friday that we would have more from Natalie Portman?s Elle UK November cover profile, and here we go. Natalie covers the November issue to promote Thor: The Dark World, and the interview was conducted by Tom Hiddleston. We don?t have many quotes from Tom about Natalie (and I can?t wait), but there is this one, about Natalie slapping him in Thor: ?Natalie has a neat right hook. I know this because the first time we shared screen time, she punched me in the face.? And of course, we do have lots of new quotes from Natalie. Here you go:
Natalie on betrayal:
‘There?s a line [in her movie Closer, starring Jude Law whose character betrayed her] that still affects me to this day, which is when my character says, “It?s always a choice,” because Jude is saying, “I couldn?t help myself.” That?s what people always say, but it is a choice, all the time.’
Natalie on falling in and out of love on a whim:
‘I see it a lot ? this romantic view of the world where you fall in and out of love on a whim. It ignores the depth of trying to know another human being and respect them and love them, and puts in its place the excitement of an immediate intimacy. But really knowing some? That is such an opportunity.’
Natalie on motherhood:
‘I love being a mum, but it?s much more intensive work than being an actress ? going to work feels like you?ve got a day off. Not that I want a day off from being a mum, it?s just perhaps I had this impression before that mums don?t work. But they work more than anyone.’
Natalie on feminism:
‘I want every version of a woman and a man to be possible. I want women and men to be able to be full-time parents or full-time working people or any combination of the two. I want both to be able to do whatever they want sexually without being called names. I want them to be allowed to be weak and strong and happy and sad ? human, basically. The fallacy in Hollywood is that if you?re making a “feminist” story, the woman kicks ass and wins. That?s not feminist, that?s macho. A movie about a weak, vulnerable woman can be feminist if it shows a real person that we can empathize with.’
Natalie on Dirty Dancing:
‘To this day, it?s the movie that I?ve seen most in my life. “I carried a watermelon”… I can?t talk about it too much, or I?ll start getting teary. There are other movies I love, but no other movie that I have watched over and over.’
Natalie on social media:
‘Lives are so documented, because it?s so easy with iPhones. I wonder how it?ll affect a whole generation who grow up that way. It had an effect on me ? I became more conscious of how I walked, talked and looked because I was constantly seeing myself.’
Natalie on punching Tom Hiddleston in the face:
‘Oh my god: it was so good!’
[From Elle UK]
I agree with her feminism up to a certain point. I like this especially: ?I want them to be allowed to be weak and strong and happy and sad ? human, basically.? That?s exactly right ? it?s not ?anti-feminist? to have human failings or vulnerabilities or what have you. But I?m not sure about this: ?A movie about a weak, vulnerable woman can be feminist if it shows a real person that we can empathize with.? My mind isn?t working as well as it should this morning, so help me nit-pick that one. If I empathize with a character who is weak, who is superficial and nasty to other people and gross in general, then that?s feminism? I disagree. Millions of little girls relate to Bella in Twilight, but that doesn’t make Twilight a “feminist” film/book.

This is just a preview! I?m hoping we?ll have much more from Natalie Portman?s Elle UK November cover and interview next week. I literally sat here for ten minutes thinking, ?Why on earth is she on a November mag cover? What is she promoting? That terrible western that everyone abandoned?? Then it hit me. She?s promoting Thor. So I guess it?s official ? even Natalie Portman is doing more promotion than Chris Hemsworth for Thor: The Dark World. I thought it was just Tom Hiddleston-specific, but it seems like the situation is Hemsworth-specific. Hiddleston and Portman will promote Thor. Chris doesn?t want to.
Speaking of Hiddles, he?s the one that interviewed Natalie for this Elle issue. That?s actually kind of exciting, right? Tom is such a Pollyanna, and I can?t wait to read what kind of questions he asked her and if he wrote up the whole thing by himself. In the preview of the cover story, I?m being led to believe that Tom and Natalie discuss sexism in Hollywood. Oh, dragonflies. This sh-t will get GOOD. For now, though, just enjoy the first quotes from the interview, wherein Natalie discusses her love of Dirty Dancing:
Natalie Portman has said she gets starstruck around Jennifer Grey. The 32-year-old actress, who is a huge fan of the female lead from 1987 film Dirty Dancing, said she can’t help but feel flustered when she sees the fellow Jewish star at synagogue.
“Yes [I've met Jennifer]. We go to temple together. And I freak out every time I see her – I’m such a nerd!” she laughed to the November issue of British Elle. ?She kind of gets the ‘polite eyes’ when she comes, because she knows I’m going to jump on her. I wish I weren’t as nervous as I am around her. I can’t get over it.”
The Black Swan star added that she has no qualms about mentioning Grey’s film with the late Patrick Swayze when they bump into each other.
“Of course [we talk about Dirty Dancing]! I can’t talk about it too much, or I’ll start getting teary,” she admitted. “There are other movies I love, but no other movie that I have watched over and over.”
The Thor star, who has a 2-year-old son named Aleph with her dancer husband Benjamin Millepied, also said being a movie star seems much easier now that she is a parent.
“Yes – acting feels really easy,” she shared. “I love being a mom, but it’s much more intensive work than being an actress – going to work feels like you’ve got a day off. Not that I want a day off from being a mom, it’s just perhaps I had this impression before that moms don’t work. But they work more than anyone.”
[From Digital Spy]
I can relate to the ?day off by working? thing, but not because I?m a mom. But I get it. When you?re dealing with personal stuff or family stuff, it?s a relief to go to work and have something tangible to do, goals to be met within a day. As for Natalie and her love of Dirty Dancing? well, I?m just sort of shocked that Natalie and Jennifer Grey go to the same synagogue. Is there a special synagogue for just celebrities?

I wanna touch that dress lol!!
Here is Natalie Portman shinning on the red carpet at the New York City Ballet Fall Gala alongside her dashing French husband Benjamin Millepied.
The Oscar-winning actress looked as stunning as ever in a couture Christian Dior textured gown featuring blocks of vibrant colours turquoise, yellow and black.
Natalie, 32, went for smoky eyes and nude lips to finish the winning look, as she stepped out to support her award-winning choreographer husband, whose work was to be seen later on stage.

Here are some photos from last night?s New York City Ballet 2013 Fall Gala at the Lincoln Center. I was going to start off with Sarah Jessica Parker (who is always in attendance at NYC Ballet events), but then I glanced through these photos of Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied. Natalie wore this color-blocked Christian Dior gown (from the Fall 2013 collection) which is? weird, right? If this had just been sleek, normal silk or whatever, I think this would have been a great look. But the fabric is 3D ? it?s, like, a weird ?spiny? quilting technique I think? I don?t like it. Also: her watch doesn?t go with the look whatsoever.
And here?s Sarah Jessica in a gown that was dubbed ?Meeting of Two Minds?. It?s a collaboration between Prabal Gurung and Olivier Theyskens. Prabal did the bustier, Theyskens did the skirt and the belt. It?s okay. It?s cool that they collaborated, but surely they could have worked out a better fit on both these pieces, right?
Amber Valletta in a weird fuchsia gown. I love Amber, but this is not her best look.
Drew Barrymore in Chanel (and makeup from her Flower Beauty line). This widow-chic garb makes her look like she?s 50 years old.
And finally, my girl Doutzen Kroes and her love Sunnery James. I don?t care for the exposed-bra thing at this point, but otherwise she looks very chic.
