Here are some photos of Gigi Hadid at New York Fashion Week from the past few days – she walked the runway for Jeremy Scott (among others) and she?s been pap?d a lot coming and going from fashion week events and her apartment. Gigi has been modeling all of her life, pretty much, although she didn?t really become a high-fashion runway model until her late teens. She?s 22 years old now and her ?look? has changed before our eyes. In her teen years, she still had that ?baby fat? look, meaning she had a fuller face and a somewhat curvy/athletic figure, and she?s gotten leaner over the years. Which happens to many young women naturally, but in Gigi?s case, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto?s disease, which is a thyroid condition. So as Gigi has been photographed at NYFW, I guess people were like ?she?s too thin/she looks sick? whatever. And so Gigi took to Twitter to explain and ask for people to settle down:
For those of you so determined to come up w why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto?s disease; those of u who called me ?too big for the industry? were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that.
Over the last few years I?ve been properly medicated to help symptoms including those, as well as extreme fatigue, metabolism issues, body?s ability to retain heat, etc … I was also part of a holistic medical trial that helped my thyroid levels balance out.
Although stress & excessive travel can also affect the body, I have always eaten the same, my body just handles it differently now that my health is better. I may be ?too skinny? for u, honestly this skinny isn?t what I want to be, but I feel healthier internally and am still learning and growing with my body everyday, as everyone is.
I will not further explain the way my body looks, just as anyone, with a body type that doesnt suit ur ?beauty? expectation, shouldnt have to. Not to judge others, but drugs are not my thing, stop putting me in that box just because u dont understand the way my body has matured.
Please, as social media users & human beings in general, learn to have more empathy for others and know that you never really know the whole story. Use your energy to lift those that you admire rather than be cruel to those u don?t.

On one level, I roll my eyes when a successful model who is a traditionally attractive young woman with blonde hair and blue eyes tries to act like she?s the most bullied victim in the world. On another level, I get what she?s trying to do, and she has every right to defend herself and explain what?s going on. Most young women experience weight changes/fluctuations in their late teens and early 20s. That happens naturally, with or without a thyroid condition. Add in a thyroid condition and trying to find the balance of how to best treat it, yes, of course she?s going to look differently from one year to the next. But guess what? She?s still a traditionally attractive blonde, blue-eyed woman. So imagine how the rest of us feel.

Do you care about armpit hair? Doing this job and reading the comments, I find that many people have strong opinions about sh-t that seems strange to me. Like, there are so many people who have strong opinions about feet and when other people should and should not wear sandals. People have strong opinions about grey hair and whether (I say) people are lying about not dyeing their grey. But for the most part, it doesn?t seem like Celebitches give a sh-t about armpit hair? I used to only shave my pits about once a week, but nowadays, I shave ?em every other day, mostly because of my workouts (I don?t want to rock a five o’clock shadow on my pits at the gym). I?m sure a lot of you don?t shave your pits. And that?s fine. Gigi Hadid is one of you! Gigi is one of the models in Love Magazine?s Advent calendar, which is basically just an excuse to get models in their underwear. Behold, Gigi rockin? some pit fur:
Fine or nah? Here?s the thing though? the armpit hair may be a LIE! It may be fake news! According to TMZ?s armpit gossips, Gigi?s pits were actually shaved and it wasn?t fur in the video, it was schmutz from the blue jacket she wore briefly in the video. Like, it?s actually blue lint? No. I don?t believe that. It looked like armpit fur to me. And why would that be a problem? It?s not. It?s fine. Ladies, if you want to rock your armpit hair, have at it!

Here are some photos of Gigi Hadid out and about in New York yesterday. This isn?t really her street-style – she was going to an event, and she just happily pap-strolled on the street ahead of the event so everyone could see her outfit. The ensemble is being called ?rock ?n roll Barbie? by her stylist. I am not feeling it. The leather suit is Kreist fall/winter 2017, and the platform shoes are by Aquazzura (they cost $950). I actually think Gigi is a really beautiful young woman, but this is not her best look, and I?m saying that as someone who doesn?t mind a fuller-legged trouser. Like, I enjoy a pair of pants with a flare. But this is just full bell-bottom, correct? I also feel like the jacket is TOO cropped.
Another problem I have with this is that it?s in a dreadful shade of Millennial Pink. By now, you?ve seen all of the thinkpieces on Millennial Pink and how the color is either The Color of the Decade or Already Over. I don?t mind Pink in general, nor do I mind Millennial Pink in moderation. But the color isn?t happening in moderation, at all. It?s everywhere. It?s overdone. It?s on every book cover, dress, Pinterest and wedding. The combination of the Millennial Pink + Gigi Hadid feels like everything in these photos was manufactured in a lab by cautious tastemakers.

Gigi Hadid announced that she is breaking up with social media. Although, because it is only for a month, she and social media will just be on a break so social media can sleep with the copy-shop girl if it wants to (wink and nudge to the Friends fans out there). Gigi, who was a part of Reebox?s #PerfectNever panel discussion in New York on Wednesday, claimed she will be off Twitter and Instagram for one month to focus on herself and her career. What?s more, she thinks we should all do the same because everyone takes a side in a breakup, don?t they?
Gigi Hadid is going through a breakup (no, not with Zayn.) The ?social media? supermodel says she?s splitting from Instagram and Twitter for a month around the holidays to focus on herself and her career.
?It?s not only for people in the spotlight, it?s for everyone,? the 21-year-old star told PeopleStyle at Reebok?s #PerfectNever campaign launch event in N.Y.C. on Wednesday. ?At the end of the day, I?m choosing what I?m showing you. A lot of the world feels so much entitlement in other people?s lives, which is so crazy and so new for human beings. We never had that.?
She added that her cleanse from the networking apps will also help her block out negativity and Internet hate.
?I?m going to take a break when I feel like it and when I come back and share it with you if you want to be supportive and still follow me I?m so grateful for that,? she said. ?But if you?re going to be negative or be upset that I had to be human for a month than maybe I don?t want your follow anyway.?
Hadid finds the process of stepping away to be not only ?empowering,? but also a good way for her to connect with those around her.
?I?m so grateful for social media because it?s given me so much more in my career, but I also really respect my career without the social media aspect,? she said. ?And I really want to still pay most of the attention to my job as a craft and not lose the art in it and the relationships that are meaningful to me not because of the money or the contracts but because of how I inspired designers and how they inspire me. I want to go back to focusing on that kind of relationship within fashion when I go to work for the next month.?

I have many thoughts on this but I need to qualify them all by saying that I have no social media game. I mean, I have a blank Instagram account that I forget about until Instagram emails me. As Gigi and her ilk are referred to as Instamodels because that is how they rose to fame, doesn?t this kind of reek of ?don?t bite the hands that feeds you?? Don?t get me wrong I am all for social media blackouts but mine are slightly shorter, like a weekend or even just after 4PM. Also, I understand giving others a heads up about why you aren?t responding electronically but I always feel when someone shoots me an article about unplugging and says, ?I am totally doing this, we all should!? that the real subtext is ?okay, everyone get off social media so I don?t miss anything while I off it.?
I know Gigi was assaulted by that a?h-le Vitalii Sediuk in Milan and I imagine she is looking at quite a few things differently as a result. Her comments on taking a break seem personal. I can?t quite figure out, however, if she was dragged online (maybe for her Melania impression at the AMAS?) or if she is having a crisis of conscience about her career. That last paragraph is hard to decipher but it sounds a little like she might be worried that she doesn?t have a career without social media. If that is the case, I hope she gets what she wants out of this break.

Here are some photos from last night?s British Fashion Awards. This is Gigi Hadid in a rather stunning Versace jumpsuit, which works surprisingly well on her. I would not have thought to put Gigi in Versace, but the combination is nice. I also enjoy the fact that she decided to wear pants rather than some cheeseball gown. Is this particular jumpsuit the most flattering and amazing thing in the world? No, of course not. It makes her torso look crazy-long, the sateen pants are wrinkled and Gigi?s slicked-back hair isn?t helping the look. But overall, this is solid. Just what I?d expect from the Model of the Year. Yes, that?s right. Gigi won the award for Model of the Year. Traditionally, at the British Fashion Awards, that award is usually given to a British model. But since Gigi is banging a British guy, I guess they figured, ?good enough.?

Gigi Hadid is my favorite of the Instamodels for reasons I don?t really understand. I think she?s beautiful and she photographs well. I like that she fought back when she was being assaulted by an unhinged a?hole. I like that her thighs are somewhat substantial. But even I admit that my girl has some flaws as a model. She can often look dead-eyed in editorials, and she is easily the worst Instamodel for runway work. There are clips and GIFs of Gigi?s terrible runway strut, and it?s become a ?thing? on the internet, the fact that she can?t walk to save her life. Well, Gigi was profiled in the new issue of W Magazine and she knows what people have been saying. So she admits it freely: runways are not her thing. As she tells W:
?Before I started modeling, I was more into photographers. I studied a lot how models made pictures in the sense that you have to be a positive part of a picture and make it better. And that?s what is really important for me on set. There?s some people that are bad at looking at monitors and some people that are good looking at monitors. And monitors really help me because I?m able to look at a picture and see where I fit into it, see what I can add to the picture instead of just being a person that?s on the page.
?But the runway thing, it?s funny because obviously I?m not the best on the runway. But what do you do? When you?re the face of a brand you show up to the show. My first show people were already expecting a lot more from me than I [was capable of at the time]. I never was taught how to walk on the runway. And maybe that?s because it moved really quickly for me, that people just assumed that that was something I knew. So, you know, a year and a half later, I?m still learning. I got some compliments on my Tom Ford show, so I?m getting better. I?m working on it, but I?m human. I still get insecure on the runway, but it?s really exciting for me because I want to get better. I love being on the runway.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but in the interview, she talked a lot about how she got her start and how she put in the time going on all these cattle calls in New York and London and she rarely got any work and? maybe she should have spent that time learning how to walk? Maybe she wasn?t being hired that whole time because she couldn?t walk? It?s bizarre that Gigi?s defense is ?I didn?t know how to do this vital job requirement for a career that I had been trying to do for a really long time, NO ONE TAUGHT ME!? Like, study for the runway walk like you study how to be an editorial model. While many models have specialties ? either editorial work or runway ? the best models can and should do both.
Anyway, when JustJared put the ?I?m not the best on the runway? quote on Twitter, everybody dragged Gigi. I say this is fair.
