The annual CFDA Awards were last night in New York. CFDA = Council of Fashion Designers of America. The CFDAs have become a bigger and bigger deal under Anna Wintour?s leadership, and I have to say, they do a good job of nurturing new and emerging American design talent. When the Obamas were in office, Michelle Obama often wore – presumably with Wintour?s encouragement – new, American designers who were often the beneficiaries of Wintour?s promotion. Here?s Bella Hadid in Off White. I actually love this. Beautiful color, beautiful cut, great sleeves, great belt. You know what? I don?t even hate her bangs here.
Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, in The Row (their own label). They drive me crazy with the way they insist on always posing this way on every red carpet. As for their clothes? Victorian hobos, only chic and menswear-inspired. I think that?s the tagline for The Row: ?Victorian hobos, only chic and menswear-inspired.?
Gigi Hadid wore The Row as well, and while it?s nice to see her in something different, this doesn?t really suit her.
Janelle Monae in Christian Siriano. We should all have a moment in our lives when we were this cool.
Kate Bosworth in Brock Collection. I sort of like this? While I?m meh on shades of yellow, The Bos looks good.
Amanda Peet also wore Brock Collection. This is a no. This looks like a discarded thrift-store bridesmaid dress.

Here are some photos of Bella Hadid at the annual amfAR gala at the Cannes Film Festival last night. Bella has been in Cannes for the entire film festival, and she?s really been doing a good job, I think. This year?s Cannes has really raised her profile, and she?s been doing editorials and picking up ad campaigns right and left while she?s been in town. Plus, she?s been doing the red carpet thing and I haven?t hated her style at all.
Personally, I?m not surprised that Bella wore something crazy-revealing to the gala. That?s why she?s there! I am, however, slightly surprised that this is A) Ralph & Russo, a label I associate with more sophisticated looks and B) so ill-fitting. The ?granny panties? aspect of this is terrible, and I feel like half of her mons is hanging out. The top part is okay, but it would have been equally provocative with lining, just sayin?.
I would have expected Nicki Minaj to show up to the gala in something similar to Bella?s dress, but Nicki went with Roberto Cavalli and too-long extensions. The dress itself is rather boring and the crazy-long extensions? Eh.

Controversial opinion: I really like Bella Hadid?s look and vibe at the Cannes Film Festival?s Opening Night red carpet. Bella got invited to Cannes as part of some modeling gig, I?m sure. I used to complain about the plethora of out-of-nowhere models at Cannes, but I finally realized that many of the models are contractually obligated to be there as part of their fashion and beauty contracts. For the opening night, Bella did a slinky, old-Hollywood vibe with loose hair, a custom Alexandre Vauthier gown and a Bulgari necklace that I would love to get my hands on. The Bulgari piece features a ?a cushion cut 180-carat sapphire stone set with over 28 carats of pav diamonds.? It looks like a cabochon sapphire.
In the thumbnails, I absolutely thought Uma Thurman was Charlize Theron. I got really excited because I didn?t know Charlize was in Cannes. She?s not! It?s just Uma. Uma wore a custom Versace gown which is really not that great. There was a trend of blush-pinks on this carpet and I?m not into it.
Adrien Brody?s girlfriend Lara Lieto wore Ermanno Scervino Spring 2017 gown. She?s very pretty but this dress sucks. You can tell she feels uncomfortable in it too.
Is it weird that I don?t hate Naomie Harris?s Gucci gown? I kind of dig how dated and ?70s it looks. This honestly looks like a vintage piece.
