Lenny Kravitz, 60, has homes in France, the Bahamas, and Rio de Janeiro and is currently living his best life in Paris. He resides in a 100-year-old townhome that used to serve as the former US embassy in Paris. When he?s not performing sold out concerts and FaceTiming with Denzel Washington from the stage, he?s eating super clean and healthy and working out a lot. Lenny recently sat down with The London Times? Polly Vernon. They did a fun, lengthy interview in which they talked about how bad ass and hott-with-two-Ts Lenny is (paraphrasing, of course). Basically, Lenny is sexy and he knows it. He?s never felt better in his life, but he works really hard at it, which includes hitting the gym at 2:30 a.m. if he has to.
He has good taste: Kravitz himself is also spectacular: 5ft 9in of elegantly ripped beauty, jet-black dreadlocks, a nose ring. Perpetually exquisitely well dressed (black trousers and a black poloneck today, both of which fit so well, they can?t not be designer). Is anything about him bad taste, I?ll ask. ?I have good taste ? according to me,? he?ll reply. A voice so bassy, low and loud you?re left in no doubt how he?s worked a crowd over the course of the 35 years since his 1989 album Let Love Rule projected him to a stardom he?d never planned on (?I?d thought I was going to be this jazz musician, playing in a club?) but entirely enjoyed (?Oh, it was a trip?).
His 4th grade teacher was at his 60th birthday party: He is 60. Naomi Campbell, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Laurence Fishburne, Kravitz?s ex-wife, Lisa Bonet, and their daughter, Zo Kravitz, all came to his party in May last year. ?So did my fourth-grade teacher. I love this woman. Her name is Joan Goldberg. She flew all the way from New York to Paris,? Kravitz says.
He?s getting better with age: ?I have to say it?s true. That?s not ego, that?s: I?ve never felt physically better in my life. But that?s by virtue of a tremendous amount of work.?
Never miss a Monday, even if it?s at 2:30am: ?The other night I was in the gym at 2.30 in the morning. I was working all day. My trainer [Dodd Romero], he?s like, ?Man, you are crazy. People don?t understand. They see the result, but they don?t understand that you?re in the gym at 2.30 in the morning doing this workout.? So yes, when I look at pictures from now and pictures when I was even in my twenties, there?s no comparison, which is very odd.?
He shares his trainer with his bestie Denzel: I work with my trainer via FaceTime because he?s out doing other things. He?s with Denzel [Washington] right now, preparing for a play. I put them together, years ago. Wait until you see how wonderful Denzel is looking, how healthy he is.
On those pictures of him lifting weights in leather pants and a sheer tank: ?Ha! That was hysterical. That kind of event happens because [Romero?s] very busy. I?m very busy. Sometimes the phone will ring, ?Hey, brother, are you available now?? And whatever I?m in is what I will come in. Now, I wouldn?t do cardio dressed like that. You?re gonna sweat profusely, correct? ?But lifting weights? You might sweat a little. The next day, the guy who ran the gym said, ?The outfits started to change. People started coming in wearing, you know, whatever.? Like, ?Oh, we can do that??? Kravitz beams. He seems delighted with that legacy.
On being single for the last decade: ?I?m good on my own. There?s nothing like a relationship with? You know. But right now, I?m good where I am.?
He loves Emily in Paris: [B]ecause we?re in Paris, because he is an American in Paris and has been for some decades, I ask him if he?s aware of Emily in Paris, the extremely popular Netflix show about a young American PR woman living in, well, Paris. ?I?ve seen the whole thing,? Kravitz says. ?I love a bit of camp every now and again. I know the creator [Darren Star], who I met after I?d watched it. We were at a dinner in LA at a friend?s house. She said, ?He does Emily in Paris.? I was like ?You do?? ? No way, I say. Lenny Kravitz looks at me, amused. ?Why are you surprised? Why did you even ask the question?? Honestly? I didn?t think you?d even know what I was talking about. I thought you?d be too cool. ?Oh, sometimes you?ve got to watch some telly, man. Sometimes you?ve got to watch a bit of telly.?
[From The Times]
LMAO at that exchange about him loving Emily in Paris. I don?t know why, but I?m always tickled whenever I read about famous people?s more guilty pleasure watches. It humanizes them for me for some reason. I also freaking love that one of his elementary school teacher flew all the way out to Paris from New York to celebrate his 60th. That woman has to be in her mid 80s by now, but clearly, she had a huge impact on Lenny if they?re still in touch more than 50 years later.
I?m totally burying the lede here and that?s, of course, how freaking incredible Lenny looks at 60! I also love how he?s equally super self-assured and very normal at the same time. It?s kinda bad-ass that he?s so dedicated to his fitness that he?s willing to meet with his trainer at 2:30 a.m. I love the endorphins you get from working out, but the middle of the night is where I draw my line, lol. Lenny can afford to hire another trainer, too, so it also speaks to his loyalty that he?s willing to meet with Romero on his schedule rather than forcing his trainer to conform to his. But, he looks f-cking fantastic, so he?s clearly doing something right.
And yes, I am going to enhance your day by making you look at some

To go along with the wacky awards season, the ?anonymous Oscar ballot? features have also been especially chaotic this year. There is literally only one consensus choice in all of the big categories: everyone agrees that Kieran Culkin should and will win the Oscar for Supporting Actor. People really loved that special performance in a quiet little movie, and that makes me very happy. But the rest of the categories? Utter shambles. Entertainment Weekly did an Oscar ballot feature with four Oscar voters: an indie director, a screenwriter of film & TV, a publicist and a casting director. Their votes and their rationales for their votes are chaotic. Some highlights you can read the full piece here.
The publicist on Karla Sofia Gascon: ?I am utterly disgusted at the racism and hatred. I feel like the Academy should rescind that nomination. It is abhorrent, vile hate speech that has no place in the excellence that the Academy illuminates and underscores. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I think, with the exception of Zoe, who I?ll be voting for, the film lost me. If you kick the tires a little bit, people have known that she tweeted this s out?. Latin American Twitter has been saying this for a while. It?s not just an opinion; it?s true hate speech. It doesn?t matter if the actress is cis, trans, I don?t care ? there?s no place for that kind of talk. I think it has derailed the campaign. The film has already had strong detractors to begin with. Yes, it has the most nominations, which speaks to the power of the Netflix awards machine, but all machines don?t always work well. From what I?m hearing from fellow Academy voters, it will affect their decision.
The director on Dune 2: ?Im bummed because I havent seen The Substance or Im Still Here yet. The first Dune, I couldnt get through; Im not rushing for another three hours of Dune. Theres still time to re-evaluate, but I really struggled. Knowing myself, Anora or The Brutalist Id expect myself to vote for, but I found one of them a bit silly, one of them exploitative. Im sad to say, its a process of elimination guiding me [to A Complete Unknown] and not passion for these works. Hearing myself say these things, perhaps I should abstain. I think, after a talk with my therapist, I will probably abstain [altogether].
The writer on Anora: ?There was very little about Anora that I responded to. It seemed really implausible and like one of those aughts movies that felt very male-gazey about a young womans journey that was seen from a male point of view, and really was all about her sexuality. I say that with respect toward her and the director, but not enough to carry a whole movie. Halfway through I was like, why am I watching this? Im surprised I saw the whole thing. It feels really old-fashioned in a terrible way. Heres another movie about a guys idea of what a womans experience of this is like, down to her fing him in the car in the end. This is how we fix things, right? The whole thing was so not for me.?
The publicist was bored by Dune: ?With Dune: Part Two, I?d seen the David Lynch version of Dune, and I saw [Denis Villeneuve?s] first one, which I was super bored by. I place it on myself; when I walked into the theater, I wasn?t in the right headspace. It wasn?t compelling to me. I?m open to sci-fi, but I think it had something to do with whatever I?d gone through that day?. My goal is to see everything on a big screen, so as much as I can watch on a big screen, great, so I waited on The Brutalist and finally saw it last week. It was too long. I want to spread the wealth and I think Im giving [Best Director] to Brady Corbet because it does have nuanced characters, [a tight] budget, production design ? my vote is going to him. In terms of the film, it could?ve been way shorter and still impactful.?
The writer on The Brutalist: ?Im very mixed on The Brutalist. It has more to do with what the movie stands for. I like Adrien Brody fine; I cant say Im a huge fan of him in general, and thats probably impacting my dislike for the whole movie. This movie is by another straight white dude who sort of gets to do what he gets to do and then talk about final cut at the Golden Globes, you know? It felt like poverty p0rn, the whole thing. Brody is a good actor, but, at the end of the day, how much more suffering are we going to see over here? What is the point of this??
The director on the Best Actress race: ?My apologies to Fernanda Torres [for not seeing Im Still Here], and Ive also not seen The Substance, which is important to this category. Maybe I should abstain until I do.?
Casting director on Best Actress: ?I?m voting for Mikey Madison for Anora. I very much loved the whole performance. She was incredibly deep and layered. From one end, you can see her hope and dreams shattered, and you can believe every second of the film that she?s going through all of this?. I haven?t seen the performance of Demi Moore in The Substance. It?s not my cup of tea, the genre. But, I have seen parts of it. My taste in acting is in a more realistic style. I haven?t seen the full thing, just parts of it, but I felt that the acting there was on the surreal side. I loved that Mikey was so realistic. I can imagine knowing that person.
[From EW]
It truly shocked me to see how these voters dismissed Dune 2. Am I on crack? Dune 2 was one of the best films of 2024! Lowkey it was in my top three films of the year. What Denis Villeneuve is doing with these adaptations is extraordinary and the Dune films are some of the ?prettiest? and most aesthetically-pleasing films to come out in the past decade. Like, real ?magic of filmmaking? stuff. I actually hated all of the writer?s bad takes on the films except for The Brutalist she was actually spitting facts on that one. The Brutalist does seem like poverty p0rn, or more specifically, suffering-p0rn. There was a moment in the second half where I literally had to stop the film and just take a mental health break because of all of the terrible sh-t that was happening. Also: this piece really exposed how Oscar voters are barely watching even half of the nominated films/performances.
