It?s never easy to lose a loved one, and Juliette Lewis is mourning the death of her dad Geoffrey Lewis with a heartbreaking poem via Instagram.
The ?Secrets and Lies? actress wrote, ?My dad. My dad my dad my dad my dad. My love my dad. My dad. My hero. My dad. My dad my love my loving father. My strength my might. My friend. My hugs. My laughter. My love. My dad. Oh my heart. My heart. He loved us so. He loved us so. So so much. I am forever my father's daughter and he will never been gone.?
Mr. Lewis passed away on Tuesday (April 7) at age 79 of natural causes. And like his famous daughter, Geoffrey was a Scientologist as well as a successful film and television actor.

Juliette Lewis has a new interview with the Daily Beast to promote a number of projects. She’s promoting a 2015 tv show, Secrets & Lies, which sounds like a True Detective knockoff. Juliette will play a lead detective alongside Ryan Phillipe. In a movie called Kelly & Cal, she’ll play a washed-up punk singer who goes though an “existential crisis” after the birth of her first child. The “punk” label isn’t too far off base for anyone who’s listened to Juliette’s music.
Most of the time when I cover Juliette, I try and forget that she’s a Scientologist. She’s making it difficult this time because she discusses the CO$ in this interview. There are other topics too, but Juliette is so brainwashed by this cult. This discussion makes me forget that she’s a talented character actress who has held her own onscreen against a number of A-list men:
On life after 40: “I think the big thing, for me, is facing my parents? mortality. That is horrifying, and I?m still dealing with it. There?s just so much wrapped up in it. My Dad is older and has Alzheimer?s and Parkinson?s, and it?s taken me seven years to accept it–and I still haven?t accepted it. I was going through that, and with my band, I?d been playing music for six years, but I realized that I still loved acting, storytelling, and characters, so that was doing my head in because I didn?t know how to balance both. I was struggling to strike a balance.”
Ageism in Hollywood: “With age, there?s definitely that stuff. But I don?t think so, because I?ve tried to stay pretty disengaged from the politics of Hollywoodism. I?ve always been an outsider. I?ve always been attracted to roles that would challenge me, and that wouldn?t come around very often. I sort of got lucky in that I was able to carve a niche for myself. I haven?t made a career off my looks, thank God, but hopefully how I?ve moved people emotionally, the directors I?ve been able to work with, and the stories I?ve been a part of.”
She was a movie “Cassandra” with A-listers: “Yeah, this is now part of my history that I can say we all came up together–Brad, Leo, Johnny Depp, George Clooney. It?s so funny. I try not to be cynical about Hollywood, but I remember that George?s first lead was From Dusk Till Dawn and, since he was coming from television, the studio was questioning, ‘Well, can he be the lead in a movie?’ And you?re thinking, ‘Dude! Are you kidding? Have an imagination!’ It?s amazing to think that it was even a question.”
Misconceptions against Scientology: “I’ll get all conspiratorial on you, and I?m just going to throw this out: The mainstream media is funded by pharmaceutical companies, so when you have the biggest movie star in the world at the time–Tom Cruise–coming out against anti-depressants and Ritalin and just saying, ‘Hey, why don?t you put a warning label on there?’ The thing about Scientology is it is anti-drug in that you?re seeking relationship or communication tools–simple basics on how to live better. So, when Tom came out about that, I?ve never seen someone get torn down so hard, and they still brutalize him with Scientology pieces to this day. It?s a religious philosophy and self-help movement. And you?ll never see a truthful word written about it in mainstream media.”
Getting recognized by fans: “It trips me out when 20-year-olds come up to me on the street and are like, ‘I loved Natural Born Killers!’ But then, I remember that when I was younger I was listening to music from the ?60s. And in the ?90s, with the exception of The Pixies, I was listening to trippy music from two decades prior.”

Bless her heart. Juliette doesn’t even realize that Tom Cruise was torn down for reasons other than holding an opinion against psychiatry. It would be fine if he simply didn’t believe in taking Prozac for himself. It would have been okay if Tom had simply suggested a warning label on meds. The problem was the way Tom said this stuff. Tom was an unhinged mess full of pointed fingers, angry postures, and name-calling. It was Tom’s way or no way at all. Glib!
One positive thing about this interview: At least the journo didn’t ask her any questions about her romance with Brad Pitt. Juliette has to field that stuff every time she promotes a project. Maybe that topic would have been preferable to Juliette throwing out a conspiracy theory on the media and CO$. She tried to sound rational by using the word “conspiratorial,” but that doesn’t make L. Ron Hubbard’s scripture any less loony.

Much has been made of the McConaussance and rightfully so. At the same time, there’s a woman who has been quietly executing her own return to the acting spotlight. I’m talking about Juliette Lewis, who has spent the better part of this decade rolling around onstage like a rock ‘n’ roll madwoman. Her music is okay. She really needs a better band (and she’s been through a few of them). I really think her strength is as a marvelous character actress, but she’s been in some dreadful movies over the years. I vividly remember one where she waded through a room full of packing corn while some serial killer taunted her with raw meat and swarms of flies.
Thank goodness that’s all over. Juliette returned with a supporting turn in August: Osage County, and she has some new movies showing at SXSW. She wants to escape her past reputation as a wild child and the ex-girlfriend of Brad Pitt. That’s what most people know about her: she wore cornrows while dating Brad and dabbled in drugs. Now that she’s turning 40, Juliette is ready to overcome the gossip that has followed her for half her life. Although she admits that dating Brad has given her a great deal of press. At least she’s honest:
Juliette Lewis is at a turning point.
Admitting that most past news coverage about her was “usually about Brad Pitt or drug addiction, which hasn’t been me since I was 22,” she says, “I’m 40. I quit all my bullsh-t at 22. There is growth. Get out of the past.”
At present, Lewis has two films at the SXSW arts fest in Austin: Kelly & Cat, which Variety in its review called an “inspired match-up of underserved veteran Juliette Lewis and breakout newcomer Jonny Weston,” and writer-director Kat Candler’s darkly emotional Hellion, which premiered Sunday and costars Josh Wiggins as a struggling teenager and Aaron Paul as his father.
“I like doing roles that are rooted, where the character has a history and a range of emotion,” says Lewis, who, as a young actress shot to fame with roles in the critically acclaimed What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Cape Fear and Natural Born Killers.
Off-screen she was causing excitement, too – being chased by paparazzi during her relationships with both Pitt and Johnny Depp.
But that was then. Lewis says turning 40 is about expressing herself. “I used to be really insular, really introverted, spoke very little words,” she says. “I couldn’t articulate myself.”
That means not only expressing herself with her screen work, but in the recording studio. After her turns in the Oscar-nominated August: Osage County and the ABC series Secrets & Lies with Ryan Phillippe, Lewis is also preparing her new album, her fifth and her most recent since 2009?s Terra Incognita.
“I took five years off of movies, just making music and touring,” she says. “I am mid-life, and this is a new chapter for me.”

I gotta point out that Juliette still has plenty of “bullsh-t” in her life in the form of Scientology. She still seems like one of the more normal celeb members (which isn’t saying much, I know). I remember hearing stories of her proselytizing on movie sets (she also tried to recruit Brad into the fold), but that was many years ago too. She’s toned it down a lot. Juliette is ready to be an actress again. As long as she sticks to her craft, Hollywood will be better for it.

People looked forward to August: Osage County for many reasons, but I for one am glad that it’s brought Juliette Lewis back to the red carpet. She may not be a conventional beauty, but she’s always weird, wacky, and whimsical without falling into the “twee” category. Juliette has a very strong personality, which makes her choice of gowns last night somewhat intimidating. There’s a possible clash of personalities at work here.
Juliette left her usual Zac Posen at home (remember how she wowed at Critics’ Choice last week?) and wore a Vivienne Westwood Gold Label gown instead. This dress looks like a mural! It’s not bad, but Vivienne and Juliette are practically duking it out to see which of them shall come out alive. I love the blue color of the dress and the floral pattern. The draped neckline gives this dress an old-school feel while the fabric makes it look funky too. I want to like this dress, and I think what’s throwing me off is Juliette’s hair. Toss some powder on that head, and she’d look like one of the founding fathers.
Malin Ackerman wore Naeem Khan and looked like she really loved the hell out of this dress. I think it’s pretty gaudy and faux-Egyptian. Katrina Bowden did black and gold well last night, but Malin looks an utter fright in this dress. This is a clear case of the dress wearing the girl.
Portia De Rossi went for basic black in Saint Laurent. This is a good look for Portia, and the backless portion mixes things up and keeps the boring away. I wish she’d grow her hair back out. She looks cute enough with a pixie cut, but I want to see those rolling curls that were so famous in her Ally McBeal days.
Amanda Peet wore a confusing dress with way too much going on at once. Are those flowers? I don’t know. Certainly the striped sheer sleeves, bizarre crochet pattern at the bodice, the twiggy pattern around the midriff, and the iridescent whatever else of the skirt would be enough without flowers. At least she wore her hair back so as not to distract from all that fug.

Juliette Lewis might not be a huge, attention-grabbing name, but she looked fantastic on the red carpet at the Critics’ Choice awards. Juliette is my favorite Scientologist. I know everyone’s all about Elizabeth Moss and bemoans her involvement in the cult, but I’m rooting for Juliette to finally tear herself away from Xenu. She’s an amazing character actress and deserves some sanity.

The brunette beauty proudly showed off her trim figure in a skimpy two-piece swimsuit as she hopped aboard a boat to cruise the waters during the south of the border getaway.

Making time to treat herself to a relaxing vacation, Juliette Lewis was spotted living it up in Los Cabos, Mexico on Saturday afternoon (November 20).
The brunette beauty proudly showed off her trim figure in a skimpy two-piece swimsuit as she hopped aboard a boat to cruise the waters during the south of the border getaway.
The trip to Mexico comes just after Miss Lewis took the stage for a performance this past week during the Miami Dolphins vs. Chicago Bears pre-game celebration.
Talking about transitioning from acting to being a musician with her band Juliette and the Licks, Miss Lewis said, "It's sort of when I decide to do something, I'm gonna do it all the way. In my head, in my creative heart, I wouldn't have been able to do both."
She added, "In the beginning, they're just curious. So the expectations are really low. So that was great for me. But then after that you get the people who are really digging what you're doing and your music."
And though she's ventured into the music world, Juliette isn't finished acting quite yet, as she tells, "I'm in my 30s, I'm not done. I don't want my best work to be behind me in my 20s. I feel like this is a new chapter."

These are photos from last night?s premiere of Due Date, the Robert Downey Jr. film about a dude whose wife is about to give birth and he?s trying to make it across the country in time to see his baby or something. It?s actually just a premise to make an old-fashioned buddy comedy, with RDJ?s ?buddy? played by Zach Galifianakis (who I will be referring to as Zach G. from now on). Anyway, Juliette Lewis is in the movie too?? Yes, she is. And so Juliette decided to wear this for the premiere?now, I don?t hate it, just like I don?t hate Juliette. But I think Juliette is trying too hard to ?dress like a grown up? when she is, at heart, the weird punk-goth-rocker girl. So? when I judge her by normal standards, I kind of think she looks like hell. Judging her on her own special standards, she looks good, even great.
Michelle Monahan is in the film too? and she wore this totally bland red dress. She tried to work it, hard. But the whole effect is just ?meh? to me.
I thought Zach G. was Phillip Seymour Hoffman for a second. They should play brothers.
Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan both looked great though! Susan was the best dressed, I thought. I also love how RDJ and Susan color-coordinate their outfits. They must have so much fun together!

She was out promoting her new film ?Conviction? last night (October 6) and Juliette Lewis ended up in the hospital shortly thereafter.
The ?Natural Born Killers? actress was leaving the event when a car collided with her car before taking off into the night.
A rep for Ms. Lewis told press, ?Juliette was leaving an event for her new film. The sedan she was traveling in was completely totaled.?
?Ms. Lewis went to the hospital to be checked out and is a bit banged up and sore, but otherwise thankfully okay. She is now resting at home.?

The only other time I’ve ever seen a face like Juliette Lewis’ up there is that time Lloyd gave Harry a mug full of Turbo Lax and sent him on his date with Mary Swanson. Oh, and that time I forgot to explain my “vagina dentana” condition to some one-night stand I met in a bar. Good times.
