| Dwayne Johnson on the backlash to his Maui fundraiser: 'next time I will be better' | Added 363 days ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

In response to the devastating wildfires that swept Maui in August, Dwayne Johnson and Oprah Winfrey set up the People?s Fund of Maui. The aim of the fund was to provide local survivors with $1,200 a month to assist in recovery. Dwayne and Oprah each donated $5 million to start off the fund, and then publicly asked people to contribute. In my side-eyeing Paris Hilton for vacationing near the disaster site, I seemed to have missed that Dwayne and Oprah themselves received backlash? for starting a fundraiser to help. The criticism they received was for asking people to donate, despite the massive wealth between them. Over the weekend Dwayne posted an Instagram video update about the first round of $1,200 checks going to survivors, and he also took the opportunity to address the flack he and Oprah received during the launch:
?When we first launched the fund, there was some backlash,? Johnson said in a video shared to his Instagram on Sunday. ?I get it and I completely understand, and I could?ve been better. And next time I will be better.?
The ?Moana? actor acknowledged that he knows ?money ain?t falling out of the sky, and it?s not growing on trees, and there?s a lot of people out there who?s living paycheck to paycheck. And I get it, and I know what that?s like.?
Many people criticized Johnson and Winfrey for not contributing more from their own pockets and asking their fans to donate.
?When you?re living paycheck to paycheck, you are easily pissed off. It?s frustrating,? Johnson continued in his video on Instagram. ?And the last thing you want to hear when you?re living paycheck to paycheck is someone asking you for money ? especially when the person asking you for money already has a lot of money. I get it, I understand.?
Johnson?s net worth is estimated at $270 million and Winfrey?s is estimated $2.5 billion, according to Forbes.
?I?ve never launched a fund before, but I?m a quick study and lesson learned,? the ?Red Notice? star added.
He also thanked his fans for their honesty in his caption, writing, ?I?ll always appreciate and protect that straight talk between us ? you have my word to always listen, learn, grow and do better.?
Johnson and Winfrey?s fund is intended to give adults displaced by the wildfires in Lahaina and Kula a monthly stipend of $1,200 to help them during recovery.
In Johnson?s latest post, he said the first round of applicants has started to receive the monthly stipend.
?I?m so grateful and moved by all the messages I?m receiving out of Maui from the survivors of the devastating wildfires who are now getting their personal funding from The People?s Fund of Maui,? he wrote in the caption. ?The strength of our people of Maui is beautiful and inspiring. Watching families and community come together after this tragedy is inspirational and I?m proud of our Polynesian people.?
Johnson concluded: ?Thank you to everyone who has helped by sending resources, love and prayers to all people affected by the fires and a loving mahalo and RESPECT to our OG cultural leaders, our local community organizations, and all our first responders and every person who came together to help our people.?
[From USA Today]
I don?t usually say this, but in this particular case I?m with the million-billionaires. Between Dwayne and Oprah, they started off the fund with $10 million of their own money. A drop in the bucket for each of them, sure, but I still don?t think they?re the bad guys here. They each routinely donate generously to worthy causes. And they didn?t single out any one group to contribute to the fund, it was a blanket plea that other millionaires were welcome to respond to! That being said, this was a well done move by Dwayne ? to acknowledge the parts that didn?t land from the original launch and promise to handle it better next time, all while giving a positive update on money going out to survivors. But overall, I think the intent, context, and track records matter a lot here. I mean, it?s not like Dwayne and Oprah just showed up empty-handed to a refugee center or foodbank for the umpteenth time.

Dwayne ?The Rock? Johnson routinely tops yearly lists of highest paid actors, with some even naming him the highest paid actor ever in Hollywood. Do I think Johnson merits being the highest paid actor? (And please note I?m pronouncing it in my head with a Laurence Olivier flair as acTOR!) If we?re talking about acting as a craft/art form, then no, I do not. But I totally understand how he?s amassed the hefty paydays, and I enjoy the comedy and physical agility he brings on screen. What I enjoy about him most, though, is how consistently and genuinely he pays it forward. From donating seven figures to keep striking actors afloat, to surprising fans on a celeb tour bus in his LA neighborhood, to setting up UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo with a new, furnished house in Miami, Johnson is like a huge, jacked fairy godmother. Over the weekend Johnson took to Instagram to answer a fan?s question on the drawbacks to fame? he had none:
A lucky son of a b: ?I have been a lucky son of a bitch to have been famous for a long time, and I realize that there are no drawbacks to fame because I remember how s? once was,? he added. ?Back in the day, the alternative to fame [was] not being famous, and I couldn?t pay rent, I was struggling to figure out who I was, I was broke as f?. I try my best to keep all of that in the forefront of my mind.?
He lives like he?s ?a day away? from losing it all: ?I never let that go,? he continued. ?I always say, ?I?m a day away from being evicted again? so it keeps me hungry. So for me, there are no drawbacks to fame. I got a lot of celebrity friends who completely disagree with me, and that?s okay. We have had healthy discussions about fame. And that?s okay, having a difference of opinion. It invites dialogue. It invites discussion. But for me, there are no drawbacks.?
LOL, he misses the mall: ?I miss going to the mall. I miss going to the stores. Just hopping in my car and going [to the] grocery store, drug store, the mall, wherever,? Johnson said. ?All that has gone away years and years ago, so anytime I go, it?s a thing. Gotta call ahead, logistics, security.? Johnson also admitted that every now and then he does get the urge to go shopping by himself, but things eventually turn into a ?zoo.?
Don?t chase fame: ?I always tell people this. There?s young digital influencers out there, social media, entertainment, singers, athletes, all these young bloods who think, ?Hey, I gotta chase fame, greatness equals fame, fame equals greatness.? And I always share this with everybody I talk to,? Johnson added.
Chase greatness: ?I learned over the years to not chase fame, and I share that with people today who are on the come up,? he continued. ?Don?t chase fame. Chase being great at something. Chase greatness. Fame will come, or it won?t, but if you?re great at something, that?s enduring.? Johnson then shared a quote from legendary running back Walter Payton: ?If you?re good at something, you will tell everyone. If you?re great, they?ll tell you.?
[From People]
Ok, so at the beginning I felt like he was equating ?fame? with ?success.? To me, they?re very different animals. Success helps you pay the rent, success contributes to your sense of self. Fame is what?s making it hard for him to go grocery shopping (allegedly, though I love the image of him calling Ralphs for a security briefing, ?I need bananas ? cover aisle 10!) I wholeheartedly agree with his comment on greatness, lofty as it sounds. Someone once said to me that pure concentration is the key to happiness. If you?re working towards greatness, you have to be fully concentrated on mastering each facet, each level. And I bet Johnson would concur that happiness is even greater than fame. Now someone treat that man to a normal, low-key visit to a mall, pronto!

| Dwayne Johnson endorses Joe Biden & Kamala Harris: they are 'the best choice' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The first time I realized that Dwayne ?The Rock? Johnson was a political animal was his somewhat infamous GQ cover story in 2017. In that piece, The Rock spoke a lot about the idea that he might one day run for office, and that he?s absolutely open to the possibility of running for president. In the years since, his thoughts have not changed. He?s pretty choosey about how and where he?ll speak about political issues, but I think the Trump years have been an education for him? in that horrible way it?s been an education for all of us. So with five weeks to go before the election, the Rock is endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. The Rock made his endorsement thoughtfully, in an explanatory video in which he conducts an interview/conversation with Biden and Harris:
As a political independent & centrist, I?ve voted for both parties in the past. In this critical presidential election, I?m endorsing @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris.
Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT.
We must ALL VOTE: https://t.co/rZi1mxh8DC pic.twitter.com/auLbc8xDBv

| The Rock married his longterm girlfriend, Lauren Hashian, in Hawaii over the weekend | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Just last week, I was looking at this post The Rock made gushing about his girlfriend, Lauren Hashian. He posted a slow motion video of the two of them walking together before the Hobbs and Shaw premiere and wrote that Lauren will always be the life anchor who makes this whole thing happen and shine and that shes his much better half and beautiful smoke show. Lauren and Dwayne have been together since about 2007 and they have daughters Jasmine, 3, and Tiana, 16 months, together. Dwayne also has daughter Simone, 18, with his first wife, Dany Garcia.
Anyway Dwayne, 47, and music producer Lauren, 34, are married now! We know because he posted some beautiful photos from their wedding in Hawaii on Sunday. So far outlets are running stories based on just this Instagram post, which is nice. It means that they got married, posted about it to Instagram and thats it. I hope we get more details about what kind of food was served, who was there and what the cake was like, but for now this is all we have:

| The Rock on supporting Hawaiian protests: 'It would be like building on their church' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

The Rock visited Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show this week to promote Hobbs & Shaw. During the first segment, he gushed about his youngest daughter, Tiana, and since Jimmy has daughters, they talked a bit about the TV shows and movies that the girls like, including Peppa Pig and Dora the Explorer. Jimmy also shared pictures of some of The Rock?s cheat meals that he?d posted on Instagram. They spent most of their time, however, talking about a more serious subject: The Rock?s participation last week in the protests in Hawaii:
On his cheat meals
I?m into pancakes, sushi, sandwiches. It?s the best. The cheat meals [are] like church. You work out hard, once a week you treat yourself. I have to wait until everyone?s asleep. Midnight. I?m like a troll [eating].
On supporting the protests in Hawaii
There are protestors on the big island. There?s a mountain, Mauna Kea, a sacred place to native Hawaiians. There?s a telescope being propositioned to be built there. [It?s] 18 stories, the size of a football stadium. The issue that the native Hawaiians have is that it?s sacred land, there was some trust that was breached between them and the state and the people who are trying to build the telescope. I wanted to get my boots on the ground, go there personally. I grew up in Hawaii and I know what it?s like to have that sacred land. It was really a beautiful experience it was so inspiring. You have men and women, children and elderly, kapuna is what we call them. They are so steadfast and passionate about the sacredness of their land. I joked that cheat meals are like church but the truth is that this mountain is their church. It would be like building on their church? This is so much bigger than a telescope being built. This is humanity, these are human beings whose hearts are hurting. At the end of the day it comes down to taking care of the people.
[From The Tonight Show via YouTube]
I am touched by the reverence with which he speaks of the native Hawaiians. He wanted to go to see for himself what was happening because he grew up in Hawaii, was moved and wanted to support them in their efforts to keep the telescope from being built. I also appreciate that he points out that the issue is ?so much bigger than a telescope being built,? because he?s right. He says that we should take people?s hurt as a sign to stop doing whatever we?re doing that?s hurting them. It?s such an obvious kind of behavior (to behave with empathy, as he also points out), but it doesn?t often happen on such a large scale as would need to happen here.
HuffPost reported Thursday that Jason Momoa and his son traveled to participate in protests, and that Bruno Mars also posted a photo on Instagram in support (but I don?t think that he traveled to Hawaii). On Tuesday, Governor David Ige rescinded an emergency proclamation put in place to deal with the protesters. Governor Ige said there aren?t immediate plans to transport equipment up Mauna Kea, and also that the approaching Hurricane Erick and Hurricane Flossie could impact the islands. I hope that everyone remains safe and, beyond that, that the protesters? voices are heard and the telescope is moved to another location.
Heres that part of The Rocks interview and the other part is here!
View this post on Instagram
Hard to express how strong the mana and how heavy the heart was when I walked this sacred land with these people our people. This issue is much greater than a thirty meter telescope to be constructed on the Mauna. It?s humanity and compassion. Its respect for culture and approaching this with deep care and sensitivity. I?ll always be strong advocate for the advancement of science and technology, but never at the sacrifice of human beings who?s hearts are hurting thru mismanagement and breach of trust. I believe in forward progress, but only when it comes thru humanity. I don?t believe in leaving people behind, I believe in bringing people with us. The best of leaders find a way to make progress thru humanity and will always lead with empathy. I?m hopeful that leader will emerge to take care of the thing that matters most in this situation the people. I appreciate the views shared with me from reps on both sides of this issue. It?s always healthy and critical to have open heart to heart dialogue. In the end, I stand with the people. #ProgressThruHumanity #LeadWithEmpathy #MaunaKea

Happy New Year, Celebitches! I hope everyone enjoyed the various holidays and general merriment over the last month. I loved seeing the celebrations and decorations on Instagram so thank you to all who posted them, they were beautiful. Our buddy Dwayne Johnson posted a few Christmas themed pics to his Insta as well, all with his general message of positivity and spreading the love. Then he put his money where his mouth is and posted this video of his mother opening her Christmas gift from him, which turned out to be a new house. Good lord ? that must have been one impressive tree to fit a whole house under it:
View this post on Instagram
This one felt good. Surprise! Bought my mom a new home for Christmas. All our lives growing up we lived in little apartments all across the country. Lived like gypsies on the road from one state to another. The first home my parents ever lived in was the one I bought for them in 1999. They divorced about 5yrs later and as with life, stuff happens and things got a little complicated. Since then I always made sure my mom and dad have everything they?ll ever need houses, cars etc. But the house this time is a special one and the timing is very meaningful. I told her to treat this card like it?s ?Willy Wonka?s Golden Ticket? because she gets to choose any home she wants anywhere she wants. I always say, if you got a good mama, then you gotta pretty good shot at becoming a decent human being. And somehow, somewhere along the line I became one lucky SOB to be able to make stuff like this happen. Merry Christmas Ma and WOOOHOOO enjoy your new home. Dwanta ??

I never get tired of seeing photos of Dwayne Johnsons baby girls. Johnson posted a beautiful pic of himself teaching his three-year old princess Jasmine to swim over the weekend. Side-note: if he?s successful in teaching Jasmine to swim, maybe he could start his own swim training business ? offering private lessons and after-hours coaching? Just an idea, think it over. Anyway, during their lesson, Johnson removed his shirt (bless him) and that?s when Jasmine noticed the similarities between Mom and Dad:
Great to recharge the batteries this weekend, back home with all my girls and teaching this lil? tornado how to swim. Took my shirt off and she said, Daddy I like it your brown boobies.. ?? Thank you baby, but daddy has pecs, not boobies. #KickThoseLegs #UseThoseArms #MrBrownBoobs

| The Rock calls daughter's birth 'the most amazing experience I?ve ever seen' | Added 6 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
Dwayne Johnson is a very loving father and partner. He has professed his appreciation for women on many occasions and I don?t doubt for a moment that he means every word. However, according to Johnson, since his third daughter?s birth in April, he has gained even more reverence for his partner, Lauren Hashian, and not just Lauren, but all mothers across the board.
Dwyane ?The Rock? Johnson says watching his longtime girlfriend Lauren Hashian deliver their 2-month-old daughter Tiana Gia changed the way he looks at women and mothers forever.
During a visit to Live with Kelly and Ryan on Tuesday, the Skyscraper star, 46, opened up about being in the delivery room for his youngest daughter?s birth.
?I will say, it was the most amazing experience I?ve ever seen,? Johnson said. ?I look at Lauren, and women and mothers, in a different light than I ever have before. And it was beautiful.?
[From People]
Johnson has two other daughters, Simone who is 16 (her mother is his ex-wife Dany Garcia) and his two-year old daughter Jasmine with Lauren. He was in the delivery room for both of their births as well so what was different with Tiana?s birth? Why the new appreciation? Like the saying goes: Location, Location, Location. Johnson changed his vantage point when invited by the doctor for Tiana?s birth and saw everything.
?I was encouraging her ? holding her hand. And the doctor said, ?Would you like to come down and watch and help?? ? Johnson recalled. ?I said, ?Yup, I?m going to come down. Watch. Help.? ?
?I?m holding legs, everything. And out comes the baby,? he continued, joking, ?I know, right? Crazy. ?Cause you roll the dice. You don?t know how it?s going go to go. A lot of stuff happens.?
You know what? Good for him. A lot of people couldn?t handle that scene. I couldn?t. The Mister said he could, after watching the live-birth video in our birthing class, but I shut that nonsense down right away. We were paying good money for medical professionals to do their job, they didn?t need his help. He was far better off staying by my ear and telling me I was pretty. And that was even before I?d heard Robbie Williams liken watching his wife give birth to, ?my favorite pub burning down.?
This is not the first time Johnson has advocated that men watch their partners give birth. In his Instagram announcing Tiana?s birth, he advised that men watch the actual birth, if you really want to understand the single most powerful and primal moment life will ever offer.? He went on to assure the men that if they did this, ?the respect and admiration you have for a woman, will forever be boundless.? Johnson loves his dramatic proclamations so ? whatever. Maybe Johnson is trying to tell men not to be afraid of childbirth? That would be a good, if not poorly delivered, message.
I know, I know ? don?t be a jerk about a man effusing about his partner. Maybe Lauren wasn?t too pleased with being told not to rush ?Big Daddy? and he?s publicly making up to her. I?m only giving him a small bap on the nose, though. Because childbirth is *one* of the amazing things a woman can do, but most women are worthy of boundless respect and admiration even without it.
