There are so many conversations about ?cancel culture? and what celebrities are really responsible for. When the conversation turns to fashion and which fashion designers are problematic, and whether celebrities should avoid certain designers, the conversation gets even weirder, honestly. For example: I?m happy to ?cancel? Dolce & Gabbana. The designers, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, have repeatedly said awful things about politics in general, the LGBTQ community and children conceived through IVF. They deserve to be canceled. But I still see tons of people wearing D&G. Do those people deserve to be ?canceled? as well? Not really. I wish people would pay more attention, but I get it people are fking busy and not everything is some huge conspiracy.
All of which brings me to this, one of the weirdest fking fashion/cancel culture stories I?ve ever seen. Page Six is pointing out that Patricia Arquette carried a clutch to the Emmys, and the clutch was designed by? Joss Sackler. Joss Sackler is married to David Sackler, who is? a former board member of Purdue Pharma, one of the companies being blamed for the opioid crisis. Is this not one of the strangest issues?
Nobody was shocked to see Patricia Arquette win yet another prestigious award at Sunday night?s Emmys. But some were stunned by what she was carrying at the awards show? a bag by fashion designer Joss Sackler.
As Page Six has reported, celebrities including Courtney Love have recently shunned Sackler?s LBV line since Sackler is part of the family behind Purdue Pharma ? which has infamously made billions from OxyContin and allegedly fueled the opioid epidemic. Sackler?s married to scion and former board member, David Sackler. So it raised eyebrows in the fashion world when Arquette ? whose brother David has struggled with addiction ? was carrying a dramatic LBV purse on the red carpet before the ceremony. It?s not clear if Arquette, who won an Emmy for her role in ?The Act,? or her handlers were aware of the piece?s provenance, but reps for the actress and a person who?s previously been listed as her stylist didn?t get back to us when we asked for comment.

Again, this isn?t a clear-cut situation like Dolce & Gabbana, where a designer was on the record saying terrible sh-t. This is a case where a handbag designer is married to a man who used to be on a board of a fked up company, and? how dare Patricia Arquette? Now I understand those people who are like ?cancel culture has gone too far.? To be clear, it?s totally fine if people don?t want to associate with the Sackler family and if you want to cancel them, so be it (and I agree, they?ve profited off of and sustained the opioid crisis). But all Patricia Arquette did was carry a purse to the Emmys. She probably didn?t even buy the purse it was probably just something loaned out to her stylist. My lord.

At this year’s Oscars, Best Supporting Actress winner Patricia Arquette used her acceptance speech as a powerful platform to advocate for women’s rights. She said, in part “we have fought for everybody else?s equal rights, it?s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.”
Arquette caused some controversy when she sort-of claimed, during her backstage press conference following her win, that LGBT and minority groups had not done their part to support feminist issues. She said “it?s time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we?ve all fought for to fight for us now.” On Twitter Arquette made it clear that she was calling out the LGBT community for their lack of attention to women’s issues. She also made the important point that minority women are most affected by wage inequality.
That’s all background to Arquette’s new interview, with Fortune Magazine, in which she speaks at length about women’s rights. Arquette has been an advocate for California’s Equal Pay Act, which is said to be the toughest in the nation and is expected to become law soon. While reading this interview, I found myself nodding at several things Arquette said, especially when she explained how women in her mother’s generation had so few options that they often stayed with abusive partners rather than take their chances on their own. She made some really compelling comments about the politics of abortion as well.

Why focus on the wage gap?
The inequality affects everything. It?s a web. We need to understand how destabilizing it is. We have to be more aware of how this issue affects women across the board. The pay gap happens in 98% of occupations, and it touches on every aspect of our lives. I just can?t see how we can have a healthy middle class without equal pay.
There is so much subconscious bias. Women have to pay more for health insurance, and we see that black women have higher rates of death from breast cancer because they don?t get care. I hear from teachers all the time that children come to school hungry on Mondays as they didn?t eat enough over the weekend. We have single mothers who aren?t earning a fair wage. And 40% of African American children are living below the poverty line. If you care about kids, hunger, or sexual abuse, if you care about any of these things, they are all

At the end of her Oscar’s speech accepting Best Supporting Actress, Patricia Arquette made an impassioned plea for wage equality. It was rousing, she got Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep all excited, and she started a conversation about women’s rights. Her comments were particularly relevant to her industry in light of the Sony hack which revealed that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams were paid much less in backend profits for American Hustle than their male costars. This is patently unfair, but we’re talking about large sums of money. Neither one of these women are suffering. Still, this is a fight that we can all support as women, and highly paid women should be paid as much, and offered as many advancements, as men. Full stop.
In her comments backstage following her win, Arquette kind of went off the rails a bit. She implied that LGBTQ rights advocates and people of color had not supported feminist and women’s issues to date and that it was time they did. So the truth is, even though we sort of feel like we have equal rights in America, right under the surface, there are huge issues that are applied that really do affect women and it’s time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we’ve all fought for to fight for us now.

Maybe Arquette was all worked up from her win, and maybe she had a bad personal experience with friends not supporting her cause or something, and she’s overgeneralizing. That’s possible, and plus this is one of the most emotional moments of her life, she may have said some things she would regret when all the adrenaline dies down. Here’s Best Supporting Actress winner Patricia Arquette at the Critics Choice Awards with her Boyhood co-stars and the director, Richard Linklater. She’s also shown with her man, artist Eric White. She’s in black Annabelle Harron v-neck gown with flutter sleeves. Boyhood took home so many awards last night. Star Ellar Coltrane was named Best Young Actor, Richard Linklater won for Best Director and of course Boyhood won Best Picture. I had the chance to see the film and I found it so quietly effective. It was touching but never heavy-handed, and it made me realize how the small moments in life can go by so quickly yet add up to so much. It was also a look into a divorced couple’s separate journeys, with the single mom doing most of the heavy lifting and the dad trying to be a part of his children’s lives once he was able.
In his acceptance speech for best picture, Linklater said that he wanted to realistically portray divorce as something that wasn’t necessarily sad but just reality. He said “Once I became a parent I realized that no one was broken, no one failed. This happens to so many people, it’s just life. All these little imperfections that we carry around with us. That’s really just the essence of life itself.” So well said.
Arquette also gave an excellent speech as usual. As you can tell from the title I especially loved how she thanked the bloggers! She said “Thank you all for this honor, the critics, the bloggers, the writers. People who’ve invented their own career since the internet invention, many of them.” Sometimes I tell people my job didn’t exist when I went to college so I felt flattered when she said that. I already love this woman and I’m fully behind her for Best Supporting Actress at The Academy Awards.
Arquette then talked about how this film might be able to help other non-blockbusters get made. She said “People often say about movies ‘audiences don’t want to see that.’ At this point, with small movies, producers, financiers can no longer say ‘audiences don’t want to see that.’ We don’t know what they want to see.” Bravo.
Here’s Arquette’s speech. Presenter Jared Leto saw the contents of the envelope before he announced the winner, he claimed the envelope was already open. Whether it was an accident that he saw the name or not, it was a douche move for him to have admitted that.
And here’s Best Actress in a Comedy winner Jenny Slate in Miu Miu. I really like the detail on the neckline of that gown, it’s incredible. Slate won for Obvious Child and gave a nice thoughtful speech about how the her film “depicts a modern and authentic experience of unplanned pregnancy.” She ended by saying that “activism and creative expression can go together.” I was so impressed by her speech. I wasn’t going to report this story, but I came across these fabulous pictures of Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette at the opening of PeeWee Herman’s show in LA. (I was looking for photos for our earlier story on PeeWee.) Then I remembered how much I love them and their fug style, and thought about how I’m kind of sad that it didn’t ultimately work out for them. I’m sure millions of Hung fans will be elated, though, there’s just something about Jane and his character’s hot cluelessness. To recap this couples’ past, Patricia filed for divorce after two years in early January, 2009, but it’s thought that they reconciled by the end of the month. They have a seven year-old daughter together and it is the second marriage for both of them. Ultimately it didn’t work out for them, though:

Despite working through a separation last year, the Medium actress and Hung actor have decided to get a divorce, his rep tells PEOPLE.
“The split is completely amicable and their prime focus is their daughter,” says the rep. “They ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”
The actress first filed for divorce from Jane in January 2009, but the two reconciled later that year.
Arquette, 42, and Jane, 41, met through friends in 2001 and were married in Italy in May 2006. Their only child together, a daughter named Harlow Olivia Calliope, was born in February 2003.

I wonder if there’s anything to the fact that it’s Jane’s rep that is making the announcement, not Arquette’s. At least they tried to make it work before they threw in the towel.
Mild Hung spoilers
I’m also reporting on this because I want to talk about Hung. Both of Ray’s pimps bother me in their own way, with Tanya and Lenore finding new and unique ways to be annoying each week. At times it feels like it’s losing focus and I’m grateful that it’s just a half an hour show instead of a whole hour. It’s still a worthwhile show, though, and I really like the plot line with Ray’s co-worker, Mike, falling in love with one of Ray’s would-be clients. There were a couple of brilliant scenes this week, like when his Israeli neighbor got upset because he thought hummus was from Lebanon, and when his neighbor’s cheating husband told him why he liked hookers and unknowingly helped him with his job. Jane is a great actor and it’s hard to imagine anyone else in that role.
I wonder if we’re about to hear any dirt on Jane or if they’ll settle this one as quietly as possible.

Do estranged couples typically host house parties together? Maybe - in Hollywood. A recent party invitation asking guests to attend a function at the home of Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette had some tongues wagging, since the couple announced that they filed for divorce less than a month ago. Are they getting back together?
Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane are showing signs they may have patched things up.
I just got word that the two will cohost a party next week for a musician pal at their L.A.-area home. The soiree will take place almost exactly a month after the Medium star filed for divorce to end their two-and-a-half-year marriage.
The invite for the party reads, “Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette Invite You to Their Home to Witness the Spectacular Eric Lewis.”
Mr. Lewis, who also goes by ELEW, is scoring Jane’s feature film directorial debut, the 3-D horror film The Dark Country.
No word if Arquette has put a stop to the divorce proceedings. Citing irreconcilable differences in documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Jan. 5, Arquette requested sole legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Harlow Olivia Calliope, with visitation rights for Jane.
Reps for the two did not immediately comment.

There are a lot of different ways to look at this. Maybe the split is amicable enough that they can host a party together with no hard feelings. Or maybe they decided to carry on with a party that they’d planned together months in advance. Or, they really are getting back together. It’s been known to happen. They did seem like a nice fit and their divorce announcement was kind of a surprise. One thing’s for sure - the people attending the party will find out the deal one way or another.

Two years of marriage and a 5-year-old daughter were simply too much. Medium star, Patricia Arquette, and Punisher star, Thomas Jane, have called it quits. Arquette will be seeking custody of their daughter, Harlow, and wants Thomas Jane to schedule visits.
I see where Patricia is coming from. It must be pretty annoying when your husband tries to work a “punisher” reference into every conversation and when his idea of foreplay is to tell you you’re going to get “punished” after dinner and use those air quotes as he overemphasizes the word “punish.” Yea, we get it Thomas Jane. You were the Punisher. Guess what though? That movie sucked.

Medium star Patricia Arquette, 40, has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, actor Thomas Jane, 39. The couple has a five year old daughter, Harlow. It is the second marriage for both Arquette and Jane. Arquette was previously married to Nicholas Cage in 1995 for just nine months before they separated. Jane was arrested for DUI in March of last year, for which he received a year’s probation:

My favorite headline about this divorce is from X17, which states confusingly “Jennifer Aniston’s best friends sister in law files for divorce.”
Arquette has hired divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who represented Britney Spears in her divorce from Kevin Federline.
It seems like a lot of couples split over the holidays and that could be due to the added stress of the season and/or the kind of self evaluation people do around this time. We have the first celebrity to file divorce in the New Year and according to TMZ it is Patricia Arquette. The Medium star filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Thomas Jane siting irreconcilable differences today in LA. The couple have a five year old daughter together.
WEhat a sad way to start of the new year.
