Losing a dog is never an easy situation. Having lost one myself almost a year ago, I feel the pain of every pet owner who has had to say goodbye to a loving companion, so today, I’m sending a virtual hug to Hilary Duff. The Younger star posted a heartfelt and tear-inducing tribute on Instagram to her Bernese Mountain dog Dubois, a/k/a ?Dubie,? who passed away on Monday at the tender age of 10.
Along with a clip of her beautiful dog, Hilary wrote in a caption that got my eyes watery, ?I never let myself imagine what this day would look or feel like. It was us. And we were invisible. I am having to look into your beautiful amber almond-shaped eyes and tell you goodbye today.? Acknowledging Dubie?s role as her best friend, she also wrote, “You have been with me though true pain, true happiness and joy, true confusion and disappointment and all over again.? If that?s not enough to hit you in the feels, she went on to say, ?I will miss you everyday of my life my sweet boy. You were that once in a lifetime dog. That special bond that not everybody gets. And I got you. You picked me. You were a force. You changed me forever.? Wow. I need a moment.
I never let myself imagine what this day would look or feel like. It was us. And we were invincible. I am having to look into your beautiful amber almond shaped eyes and tell you goodbye today. And honestly I would take the pain of losing you 10x over to have had you for even a quarter of that time my dubie. First of all…thank you…for being my best friend…truly. You have been with me though true pain, true happiness and joy, true confusion and disappointment and all over again. You are more then I could have ever dreamt up on my own. I haven?t taken a step without you beside me for 10 years. You are my protector my comfort, my shadow, my understanding of all things good and warm and fierce. I can?t imagine this house without your noise, your love, your energy, your smile and wagging tail? I know I will move into other parts of my life without you but I am scared. I have faith you will still be my shadow, my angel. There aren?t adjectives big enough to describe my love for you Dubes. My gratitude. I will miss you everyday of my life my sweet boy. Hilary Duff spent this past Labor Day at the beach with friends and family, including her ex-husband Mike Comrie. Hilary hung out mostly in the water with her son Luca and I can?t blame her ? this past weekend was brutal, weatherwise. Malibu generally gets lower temperatures than we do in LA but I think all of California was ready to break up with Mother Nature by Monday (actually, it?s California, so we were going to sue her). Anyway, Hilary and crew made the very wise decision to go to the beach and enjoyed what looks like a lovely Labor Day on the seashore, having a barbecue and playing football and volleyball.
Hilary Duffcelebrated Labor Day with her son at the beach, and buried any ill will for her ex-husband in the sand … all in the name of co-parenting.
Hilary and her ex,Mike Comrie, spent Monday in Malibu with their 5-year-old son,Luca. Hil was rockin’ her usual 2-piece in the water while Mike chilled onshore.
Getting together for some R&R with their kid is right up the former couple’s alley, post-divorce. They went on a family vacay last year to Maui

While this story may get little more than a shoulder shrug from most, remember that Hilary and Mike took two years to dissolve their marriage. The reason was a brief reconciliation that paused the divorce. But since their main issue was that Mike liked sex with other women so much he was willing to pay for it, the reconciliation didn?t work out. However, Hilary and Mike do things as a family all the time, like spending last Labor Day in Maui. They go to dinner, occasionally without Luca. Personally, I don?t think it means anything more than co-parenting as the article states. I think they are very good friends. I think they have always been good friends and that was likely why they considered reconciliation. Fortunately, it looks like Hilary understands how they function best, which is marvelous because it means they can coparent without having to worry if all is well romantically.
Hilary seems to be a person who can move past a relationship. Prior to her weekend with Mike and Luca, she was with her ex-boyfriend, Rise Nation?s Jason Walsh, for a charity event. Hilary, a Houston native, participated in a charity climb sponsored by Rise Nation to benefit the victims of Houston. Hilary posted this to Instagram:

Paparazzi photos are Hilary Duff’s bread and butter, especially when she’s on vacation. She must be able to deduct her vacations as a business expense given how much she posts about them on social media and how often she gets papped on the beach. (She may need the write off too, considering that her home was recently burglarized while she was away in Canada.) So she knows the deal and she knows that trolls on Instagram as well as magazines and other sites are going to use her as an example for their “see, stars are normal!” stories. I’m not saying it’s right, just that it happens and she knows about it. Tabloids aren’t as obnoxious about it as they used to be, and they often praise her for being so fit and strong. We didn’t get the tabloids this week so I’m not sure which publication or blog she’s referring to here, but Hilary recently posted this photo (below) to Instagram defending herself against criticism. This is from a recent trip she took to Maui, right after she got back from Canada. Must be nice. Hilary’s message is the kind of “rah, rah let’s be proud of our bodies” post that gets her press, and she knows it. I mean she’s absolutely right about this issue but she has more than one agenda here. Sites are running headlines claiming that Hilary is calling out body shamers, but I’m reading this like she’s calling out the blogs and tabloids more specifically. Here’s what Hilary posted:
I am posting this on behalf of young girls, women, and mothers of all ages. I'm enjoying a vacation with my son after a long season of shooting and being away from him for weeks at a time over those months. Since websites and magazines love to share 'celeb flaws' – well I have them! My body has given me the greatest gift of my life: Luca, 5 years ago. I'm turning 30 in September and my body is healthy and gets me where I need to go. Ladies, lets be proud of what we've got and stop wasting precious time in the day wishing we were different, better, and unflawed. You guys (you know who you are!) already know how to ruin a good time, and now you are body shamers as well. #kissmyass ???

Hilary Duff has some kind of paid Instagram deal with Aerie, which is a lingerie brand cashing in on the body positive movement. I have no shade for that, it’s good business sense and it’s also smart for brands to use celebrities and social media stars to promote their products. Hilary is a paparazzi target for some unknown reason, probably habit and the fact that it’s easy to cover her when we need filler stories (hi!). While running her pics, some of the men’s sites fawn over her for being cute/sexy and others call her “thick” for being strong basically. She has a kickass figure and if that’s thick sign me up. In fact I like to see her sometimes (most of the time I ignore her frankly) because she really owns her strong body. This is one of those times.

The photo was taken on Saturday as Hilary stepped out for a dinner date with her ex husband Mike Comrey, right on the heels of her split with Rise Nation’s Jason Walsh. Although Mike was shady during their off-again, on-again divorce, the two have remained friendly post-split and are co-parenting their four-year old son Luca amicably. Hilary, who admitted to giving Tinder a try, has only been single for a few weeks. Some outlets are trying to make this ?date? a thing but I wouldn?t count on it. Hilary was back on The Talk last Friday and although she said she is grateful for her marriage and son, she thinks she was just too young to get married. According to Hilary, they weren?t emotionally ready to go the distance.

That was the question audiences, and celebrity guest Hilary Duff, were asked on Friday?s episode of The Talk.
The Younger star, 29, didn?t hesitate in providing her response: ?I do.?
?I was 22 when I got married. I?m now divorced, I have a 4-year-old ? I wouldn?t change any of it for the world,? Duff admitted to the co-hosts.
Duff explained that in her early 20s, she had ?so much so young? which made her ?feel really ready to get married.? In August 2010, she married Mike Comrie ? with whom she shares 4-year-old son Luca ? but later divorced in February of this year.
?However, I don?t think we were mature enough to stick it out,? Duff revealed.
Just a month ago, Duff, who recently split with ex-boyfriend Jason Walsh, said that she doesn?t ?feel the need? to tie the knot in the future.
?I don?t feel the need to get married again. As much as I was ready and excited, you?re like, ?Oh, next step. We get married.? That is the traditional person that I?m talking about that?s inside of me or however I was raised,? said the mother of one. ?I don?t feel the need. I got to have the experience and it was awesome. I guess if it mattered to someone else that much, I would consider it.?

Slightly off topic but I didn?t realize Aisha Tyler and her husband split up after 25 years (she mentioned it in the clip). That kind of bums me out. My husband and I didn?t meet until I was 27 but we’ve discussed whether we would have made it work if we’d met in our early 20s. I?m inclined to think I was so far from getting my act together that I would have sabotaged the relationship like I did all my others at that age. I love what Hilary said about getting married again. She’s talked bout not needing to be married to have a kid. It sounds like what she took from her marriage was an understanding that what she called her “traditional” ideas of relationship are not what they once were so she won’t rush into anything. She’s been in the spotlight since she was 12, she deserves to live her life her way. Good for her for looking past what went wrong with Mike and making a positive environment for Luca.
Is anyone watching Younger? I checked it out after I wrote about Hilary this summer. I loved season one. Although season two and three weren’t quite as good, I’m still watching. If anyone wants to discuss the finale in the comments, I’ll join you. Plus, I came across this this weekend and it made me smile.

Hilary Duff was a cohost on The Talk Thursday when they brought up Jennifer Aniston’s longstandingpoint that she shouldn’t be judged for not having children. The Talk mentioned Aniston’s essay for The Huffington Post, which came out in July, and her Marie Claire interview last month, where she said she shouldn’t be “whittled down to a sad childless human.” Aniston was asked again about this on a recent British talkshow, Lorraine, and she repeated her point that tabloids are unfair to women and that “we’re reduced down, if we don’t have a baby or a white picket fence or a husband then we’re useless.” Aisha Tyler posed the question to The Talk pane “have you ever been judged through a narrow lens?” and that’s when Duff said that she gets judged for being a mom.
“I see her point and she is such beautiful role model, and a smart woman to have the courage to say these things in Hollywood. But like I feel like I was judged for having a baby and now, I’m pigeonholed for being like a ‘mom,’ but then lots of women in the industry that don’t have a child yet are judged for like not having a child.
“It?s crazy that women we are the most in demand and the most desirable but the most judged and the hardest on one another. So much scrutiny. No one cares about men?s personal lives as much as women.”
Aisha Taylor: “No one says to like a 45 year-old man ?You don?t have kids yet, oh so sad.??

She was responding to a specific question so it wasn’t as bad as I initially assumed. Duff’s career now is all about pap walks and social media and trying to drum up interest in her personal life. Don’t get me wrong she seems harmless and superficially “nice,” albeit clueless, I just haven’t read one article about how she had kids too young or which reduces her to being a “mom.” Aniston played into the “childless” narrative by talking about it post-split with Pitt, but it was very much real and the tabloids harped on it. Duff may feel judged and that’s real to her, but she’s not dealing with anything like what Aniston went through.
