Selena Gomez hosted one of the All In Challenge?s Voting Power Hours over the weekend. Power Hours allows fans to call in and speak to that night?s celebrity host about voting in return for agreeing to text at least three friends to tune in. I watched chunks of Selena?s Power Hour, it?s a good initiative and very well designed for the demographic. The first few minutes shows trivia on the screen like a movie theater does before the previews and it?s all based on voting ? from the last election?s stats to historical referendums and why we vote when we do ?it was probably my favorite part of the whole thing. Selena, who signed on as a co-chair to Michelle Obama?s When We All Vote Initiative last November, has been very vocal about getting folks out to vote this year. She used Juneteenth to implore fans to register because, ?Everyone needs to have their voices heard.? During her Power Hour, though, one fan asked Selena, who turned 28 in July, to recount her first voting experience and Selena said that this (she filled out her mail in ballot) is her first time voting, because it?s the first time she felt her vote mattered.
Selena Gomez admitted this weekend during her Voting Power Hour appearance that this is her first time voting in a U.S. election because in the past, she felt like her vote didnt matter. (Gomez lives in California, a solidly blue state.)
Sam, a 20-year-old super texter in Michigan, asked Gomez about her first voting experience. She responded candidly, Honestly, I?m not ashamed to say this but I kind of?this was my first time. And I?m going to say that because I never felt?and this is so true?and I?m now like admitting it to people, like my vote counts. Like, every little thing counts so I just think some people get in their head, like, oh well, what does it matter? And then once I really, really started going in and diving in to this, it?s been all I can focus on.
[From Elle]
Both the Elle link above or this YouTube link has the full Power Hour interview. The question comes at minute 48:00. I?m having some real trouble with this. A 28-year-old woman today has skipped two national elections. Not to mention senatorial, congressional, gubernatorial, mayoral, state and local elections. During Selena?s introduction comments with Damian Chazelle, she claims that she has always seen herself as an activist because she has been a UNICEF ambassador since she was 16. Kaiser forwarded me these articles, both of which have Selena encouraged people to register to vote, in 2008, when she was 16 and in 2012, an election year, in which she would have been 20. Selena has some political interests about which she is passionate. She made the Living Undocumented series for Netflix to shed light on the plight of immigrant life in the US. Plus, she?s been a big advocate for mental health. And I?d hoped she?d consider the fight for universal healthcare to assist those with pre-existing conditions given her health struggles. CB reminded me that in 2017, Selena was happy to sport some Nasty Woman fashion post-Grammys after not saying much during the election.
At this point, we do need every voice. Its good that Selena is getting the vote out now. I am taken aback that she?s not ashamed that she didnt vote in 2016 given where we are now. I?ve voted in every election since 1988 (also in solidly blue California, thankyouverymuch) and I?m ashamed of some of those votes. I?ve become more informed, more aware. I?ve also felt like my vote wouldn?t count on several occasions. But I also knew it might count on at least some issues and for the candidates down ballot. I hope Selena keeps her fervor into the next election and I hope she takes the time to inform those around her that every election matters. We didn?t magically arrive at this hellscape we live in.

Selena Gomez has one of those awesome Vogue videos showing her routine. I was going to give this to Oya because she?s been so great at covering these (see her Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Kat Graham and Rihanna videos plus she?s a legit makeup artist) but then I watched the video and really wanted to talk about it. Plus Oya just covered Selenas cute video with Nikkie from Nikkie Tutorials. In her Vogue video Selenas skin looks so dewy and her makeup is so gorgeous afterwards! Selena is promoting her Rare Beauty makeup line, which is available on her website. (Not a paid promotion)
First of all, Selena is quite young so her skin is lovely but she also takes good care of it. She achieves this kind of aspirational glowy look that I?d love to copy. I don?t watch enough YouTube makeup tutorials because I find them intimidating honestly. When I do watch them they seem complicated and I feel like I have to buy so many products. So this helped me a lot. For face makeup she uses foundation and then liquid blush on her cheekbones followed by bronzer then highlighter. I haves similar products except for liquid blush, which I just bought. Everyone is talking about her technique for doing a perfect cat eye, which is just to outline the corners first then fill them in. That?s at 7 minutes into the video below, but for me the takeaway is her gorgeous face work. (A lot of that is beauty, genetics and youth but I?m still going to try.)
Here?s some of what she said and the video is below:
She has dry skin with acne in her t-zone.
She uses Tacha The Dewy Skin cream.
She follows that with The Drunk Elephant sunscreen. She needs to avoid the sun due to her lupus.
She uses her Rare Beauty line?s weightless foundation and concealer. She follows that with their liquid blush.
She uses Benefit Hoola bronzer to frame her face and under her chin.
Her eyeshadow palette is by Marc Jacobs. She then uses her Rare Beauty liquid eyeliner.
She applies her Rare Beauty Liquid Luminizer under her eyes and on her nose and in the little middle area above her lips. Then she blots with her Touch and Go kit and applies powder with a puff to set.
She uses one of her lip souffles in red and then a refresher spray.
[From YouTube]
I?m going to copy Oya?s format here and mention that my highlighter is Charlotte Tillbury?s Hollywood Flawless Filter, which is insanely expensive. That?s one of the products I just had to have after watching a makeup tutorial by Hot and Flashy, which is why I avoid YouTube tutorials so I wont buy all the things. There are plenty of other liquid highlighters that are less expensive and surely look just as nice, like L?oreal Lumi Glotion. Watching this inspired me to buy a liquid blush. Before this I only tried Elfs. It was too highly pigmented and I ended up looking like a clown so I threw it out. L?oreal Liquid Lift Blur looks really nice. Maybelline Cheek Heat is really inexpensive and I actually bought some in Nude Burn after watching this video. It adds a nice sheen and it was under $6, but it just adds a hint of color its not like regular blush. However I have to put it in the regular area on my cheeks. It looks weird when I put it on my cheekbones like Selena.
As for Selena?s thoughts on beauty and makeup, I felt like I really got to know her in this video. There?s something so intimate and relatable about women explaining their routines. She said makeup is important to her as it?s part of mental health. It?s ?part of your self esteem. Its a part of how you see yourself and you shouldnt have to have makeup for you to see yourself that way, but makeup isnt a joke. Its actually beautiful and its wonderful and it brings people together. I have so much respect for that community because it really is art.? YES! This is why I wear makeup every day and why I?ve worn it even in lockdown. Some people call that insecurity, but it makes me feel so much better about myself and like I?m ready for anything. Theres a ceremony and an art to getting ready. Plus you never know when you?re going to videochat now. Also Im going to wear red lips today, Ive decided.

Selena Gomez, a Latinx Disney princess in her own right, has been making the rounds to promote her new makeup line Rare Beauty. Its been getting a lot of great reviews from the beauty community.
Selena recently did a collaboration video with popular influencer Nikkie Tutorials. They had a girly chat while trying out Selenas new product line. In the video, Selena gets really personal about her dating life in quarantine and how all of her exes think shes crazy. Here is more from the conversation, via Just Jared
?It?s hard [to find a man] in quarantine,? she said while doing her makeup in the clip, adding that it?s ?not an invitation? for anyone to ask her out.
?It?s just funny that I release things that say I want a boyfriend and stuff?and I?m like, ?I didn?t really mean it, though.? Guys are a lot of work,? she continued.
She also supplied rare commentary on her ex-boyfriends, saying: ?Every one of my exes thinks I?m crazy?I don?t care.?
[From Just Jared]
I am in the age group that was too old to grow up with Selena on Disney and I really didnt pay much attention to her until recently. Watching her on this video just made me fall in love with my Texas sister. I love that her voice is super deep and raspy. She is just so cute but you can also tell mama dont take no sh*t.
I enjoyed her camaraderie with Nikkie as well. She said at some point that she thinks she likes Nikkie. It was a cute, uplifting video and gave many people who are not familiar with Selena a person a glimpse into her personality.
As far as her exes thinking shes crazy, many men call independent, not easily controlled women crazy. Ive been called crazy several times in my dating life. It is a word some men throw around to gaslight strong women. So dont feel bad Selena, keep it moving and find a man who not only loves your quirks but also who celebrates that strong independent spirit.

| Is Selena Gomez's quarantine cooking show really about cooking' | Added 4 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Back in May, we heard that Selena Gomez was one of the unusual picks to get her own quarantine cooking show. The idea, as we were told, is that Selena loves food but doesn?t know her way around a kitchen, so a bunch of accomplished chefs were going to educate her over Zoom and we?d see the results in real time. Well, now it?s here and we can see just what all the yelling is about:
I?m still not totally sure what I?m supposed to expect. According to the blurb under the trailer, it says Selena is learning to cook, so this is the rudimentary basics of cooking? I guess that could be helpful since it looks like quarantine will never end, but the trailer doesn?t talk technique or ingredients at all. The review in Variety gives a little more information, claiming this show, with all its imperfections on display, is the perfect commentary on 2020.
Admitting to how much one doesn?t know, in an era bent on proving our incompetence, is humbling enough for most of us. But it seems especially difficult for celebrities.
Which makes ?Selena + Chef,? a new HBO Max series, the second of its type in this period, seem like a proportional, frank, and real response to the moment, as well as the second to be truly about living in 2020 without addressing the terrors of the present head-on. Here, the celebrity-profile aspect is intact, as the singer and actress Selena Gomez comes to learn to prepare various dishes with the help of a different pro chef, teleconferenced in for the occasion, each episode.
Gomez is treated with a sort of careful gentleness by her tutors, who urge her on through the preparation of genuinely complicated dishes with tones of soft, loving ministration. These are chefs who?ve been through the fire of restaurant kitchens and bring as little of that competition as they can to their engagement with their new charge. It?s a brief that fits some chefs more comfortably than others: Gomez?s first episode, in which she admits to not having used her kitchen yet before just bringing an omelette over the finish line and undercooking souffls, sees her mentor coaching her, by the end, in slightly more clipped tones than those with which he?d begun.
Not merely is Gomez forcing herself through a challenging mission, learning to cook, she?s also doing so while learning to show us aspects of herself she?d resisted giving up thus far. For anyone who?s found layers of self-protection stripped away during the COVID era, it?s the mere fact of this, more than any one disclosure, that seems like a powerful statement by a uniquely guarded star. And it?s that act ? marshalling her power as a public figure by being willing to come down to our level ? which may be the skill, learned in isolation and practiced over weeks, that ends up serving her more than cooking for one ever could.
[From Variety]
If you combine the review and the trailer, this sounds more like a Selena Gomez reality show. Variety likened this to Amy Schumer?s cooking show with her husband Chris Fischer (which the reviewer also likes). The main difference is that Amy and Chris obviously have an affectionate relationship that Amy can lean on whereas the chefs coaching Selena, all of whom came up in professional kitchens, are not letting her off the hook as easily. That could be either interesting or induce PTSD for those of us who?ve worked with high-level chefs in restaurants. However, it sounds like Selena is not asking them to go easy on her, that she signed up to be vulnerable and that?s what she?s giving us. Variety also mentioned the other people in the kitchen with Selena are her grandparents and roommates who provide a good balance between Selena the person and Selena the star.
The show sounds sweet. But is doesn?t sound like a cooking show. To be fair, it?s called Selena + Chef, not Learn to Cook with Selena. I like her, and I?ll probably give this a shot to see exactly what it is. But I don?t need a show that perfectly exemplifies 2020. Every hobby/task/endeavor I undertake is an attempt to escape this year, not embrace it.

All the new streaming platforms need content. That?s the only excuse I can think of for some of the the shows that have supposedly already been optioned. The latest in a series of, ?Whut? Why?? projects is Selena Gomez landing a cooking show on HBO Max. According to the LA Times, the show will be unscripted and will follow the amateur chef Selena on her road to become a culinary whiz by working at the hand of some great master chefs ? all from the comfort of her locked down home.
Singer and actress Selena Gomez is bringing a quarantine cooking show to HBO Max this summer.
Announced Tuesday, the as-yet-untitled series, starring and executive produced by Gomez, will air 10 episodes of ?unapologetically authentic? cooking alongside a rotating cast of master chefs who will join remotely.
?I?ve always been very vocal about my love of food,? Gomez said in a statement. ?I definitely don?t have the formal training though! Like many of us, while being home I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen.?
?We are so excited to have Selena Gomez in our first wave of programming on HBO Max and watch her adventures in the kitchen as she, like many of us, tries to improve her cooking skills during quarantine,? said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max.
?Blending her determination with top-tier culinary artists is sure to entertain and educate viewers about something we?re all trying to work through ? how to make cooking at home exciting, fun and delicious.?
[From the Los Angeles Times]
So it?s a 10-episode quarantine show. Selena will be in her kitchen and famous chefs will video-chat with her. I wonder if they will be cooking and Selena will follow them, or will she cook, and they comment on her technique? And exactly what ?master chefs? are weighing in on her attempts? Is Gordon Ramsay going to rip apart her cacciatore? Or is Rachel Ray going to cheerlead from an iPad about Selena?s penne arrabbiata? I guess it could be entertaining. I?m sure it will offer many home chefs tips they don?t have access to. I guess I am still hung up on why Selena is heading this project. I don?t think I?ve ever heard her talk about food, despite how ?very vocal? she?s been about it. However, no one is asking for my recommendations to host this so sure, it?s Selena?s gig. She wants to learn how to be a better cook and got HBO to pay for her lessons ? well done. And as she mentioned, Ill bet shes got a good playlist going during each episode.
I can see the need for more cooking at home shows given the world?s newfound (or re-found) love for it so I?m sure the suits in charge are just capitalizing on a trending niche. Also entering the cooking-at-home fray is Amy Schumer, who was given her own at home cooking show on the Food Network. The first episode airs next Monday. Amy?s show is also about teaching the untrained to cook, in this case, Amy is the untrained and her husband Chris Fischer is the chef. Looking at the teaser for the first episode, it looks like Chris and their nanny shoot the show with a handheld video camera and Amy is mainly there to provide entertainment. Again, it?s a cute premise and I?m sure it will have its moments. I?m just surprised that these shows were picked up by HBO Max and Food Network, they sound better suited for YouTube.

| Selena Gomez got 'curtain bangs' or some shaggy fringe: love it or hate it' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

From what I gather from my detractors, I?m known for certain things: stanning Angelina Jolie and the Duchess of Sussex, a bygone obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch, and a long-standing hatred for bangs. My lord, do I hate bangs. I loathe them almost as much as I hate Laura Dern, my nemesis. But what if? I?m actually okay with some bangs/fringe? It?s true sometimes I?ll come across a certain fringe style which isn?t horrible, or a woman who can really pull off some bangs. To be fair, baby bangs are always a mistake, and I would suggest for the bangs-inclined to start with just a little shaggy side-fringe to see what that?s like.
Selena Gomez has experimented with fringe before, to mixed results. These are photos of Selena out on Monday, debuting her new shaggy fringe (curtain bangs?) and? I don?t hate it? I actually sort of like these bangs and I think they suit her face? Plus, they?re shaggy enough where they won?t be absolutely horrendous to grow out if she changes her mind. So let it be known far and wide: these bangs are okay, according to me. Plus I love her outfit in these photos I really want that sweater.
Selena is stepping out this week on the promotional trail she did voice work in Robert Downey Jr?s Doctor Doolittle movie (which looks like a big bomb) and she?s promoting the release of her latest album, Rare. She chatted with Variety about it go here to read.

Selena Gomez looked amazing on the red carpet at the AMAs last night. Unfortunately her performance opening the show was a bit muted, to be generous. She did Lose You To Love Me and Look at Her Now, and it was somewhat off key and not that dynamic. You can see a clip from that on JustJared. Her red carpet look was a bright little Versace and she rocked it though. The Fashion Court tweeted a photo of this on the runway and its perfect for Selena. Her hair is so cute like that and her makeup is beautiful.

| Selena Gomez: being body shamed for lupus weight gain 'really messed me up' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

|
|
The latest entry in the Body-Shamers Are Terrible Humans comes courtesy of Selena Gomez, who chatted with her friend, Raquelle Stevens, for an episode of Raquelle?s podcast, Giving Back Generation. Selena spoke candidly about living with lupus and how people?s comments on social media about her weight-gain deeply hurt and added to her stress:
I experienced [body-shaming] with my weight fluctuation for the first time, Gomez recalled. I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me that?s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff.
Gomez said that, while her lupus doesnt directly affect her weight, the combination of all the different factors of her health struggle does.
It?s the medication I have to take for the rest of my life?it depends on even the month, to be honest. So for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that, she shared. In reality, that?s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends what?s happening in my life.
Gomez said that being mocked or criticized during that already stressful period in her life got to me big time, and that it ultimately really messed me up for a bit.
[From Entertainment Tonight]
People have the capacity to be terrible to each other. Stories like Selena?s always make me angry and sad. People who don?t live with chronic or lifelong conditions have no idea the mental and physical toll they take on someone?s body: Good days are gifts, because they are a brief respite from the fact that you can?t get away from your body when you feel like hell. Thats upsetting enough on its own, never mind having to put up with the stress of dealing with a-holes commenting about your weight, besides.
I?m glad (as ever) that Selena is talking about the trolls, though. Maybe some of them will think twice before they go after her again (or someone else) about their weight gain. In fun Selena news, she and her friend, singer Julia Michaels, got little matching arrow tattoos on their hands after Selena surprised fans at Julias concert in Los Angeles.

| Selena Gomez: First love can be 'a little toxic, you have this codependency' | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |
|
|
|
|
|
I didn?t watch or listen to Selena Gomez?s entire interview on the Zach Sang Show. I just found the quotes and we discussed that. Basically, Selena wouldn?t say that her new songs are about Justin Bieber, even though she left a million clues that of course they?re about Bieber. And then she said that she hopes that the guy she?s singing about actually listens to the music. I found it? difficult, you know? As I said, Selena has every right to make music and sing songs about her exes. But to constantly make all of these allusions to Justin, who is now a married man, in music and in interviews, it just doesn?t seem healthy. Well, Selena had more sh-t to say in that one interview, plus she had some sh-t to say to Ryan Seacrest. Some assorted quotes:
First love can be toxic: ?Youre in a phase of life where you experience love for the first time and I think that can just be just a little toxic. You have this codependency that you think is love and then you have this addiction to the passion and the frustration with each other that you think, Oh, thats love, or fighting or doing all this stuff, Oh thats love, and I believed that for a long time.
She?s been single for two years & she?s looking forward to having a boyfriend: She knows she wants her next relationship to be real and doesnt want it to be messy or feature codependency or a lack of communication. ?I think you know when you get older, you find people that are actually right for you, that are actually on the same wavelength. Im chillin right now, you guys. Honestly that [dating] is so stressful so Ive been having way too much fun being on my own. It sucked for the first year, I was like, I just wanna cuddle, I just wanna watch something and be adored. Now it feels good. Now it feels awesome.
Her lyric about an ex who moved on after ?two months?: Ive actually experienced that a million times beforeAnd thats the unfortunate part about what I do. Its all very real to me and Im sure its all just entertainment for other people, but I think I had become numb to it. And it would be stupid of me if I didnt acknowledge what I had felt, because it would be inauthentic, because its everything I claim to be and do.
[From ET & Cosmo]
?Ive actually experienced that a million times before?? Like, twice? Justin Bieber moved on from Selena in a few months. The Weeknd went back to Bella Hadid rather quickly after Selena dumped him? to get back with Justin. I mean, once again, it just doesn?t seem healthy. But I think that?s the point? Selena and Justin were unhealthy from the beginning, and they would cycle in and out of each other?s lives constantly and it was always toxic drama and then? he tried to move past all of it. And she?s still stuck in the cycle a bit? Or maybe I?m just being ungenerous. Maybe she?s really moved on and she?s truly happy being single. Yeah. I don?t know.

| Selena Gomez really wants Justin Bieber to listen to the songs she made about him | Added 5 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Last week, Selena Gomez dropped two new singles, ?Lose You To Love Me? and ?Look At Her Now.? I had no desire to discuss the singles on their own, for reasons which I?ll discuss in a moment. I ended up writing about them because Hailey Baldwin might have done something shady as soon as Selena released the first single, because Hailey is super-shady (as I?ve come to learn). The whole thing is basically that? Selena is still in her feelings about Justin Bieber, and Justin?s wife is like ?I?ll kill you!? Or something. So let?s go back to the beginning. Here?s ?Lose You To Love Me? again:
It?s such a sh-tty video, it?s hard to even concentrate on the terrible song. I?m not going to debate whether Selena had ?the right? to make yet another fking song about Justin Bieber. They were on and off for years, they were each other?s first big love affair, and they?re both emotional stunted to that era of their lives. Of course Selena has the RIGHT to make music about Justin. But I question the wisdom of it in general? Justin is truly married to someone else. Selena has supposedly been working on her own mental health for the past few years. This feels like a gigantic backslide for her. Speaking of, Selena said in an interview that she hopes Justin listens to her new songs. Girl, HE IS MARRIED.
After Selena Gomez dropped two new songs this week ? both of which seemingly refer to her on-again, off-again relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber ? the songstress admits that she?d love for the ?Baby? singer to digest the tracks, especially the ballad ?Lose You to Love Me.?
?Yeah, I do [want him to listen],? she revealed in an interview on the Zach Sang Show. ?And here?s the whole point: being able to say something on your own, and being able to say something that actually is beautiful.?
The 27-year-old pop star released the sentimental record early Wednesday ? along with a black-and-white music video shot entirely on an iPhone ? and the song appears to be a Dear John letter to Bieber, 25, who has since married Hailey Baldwin, 22.
?For me, my intentions are never evil. They just aren?t,? Selena continued. ?I don?t even know how to do that. My intentions can be a bit snappy but I always want to come from a place that?s genuine, and when I feel like some things haven?t been said, then I get to turn things into art.?
[From Page Six]
So she?s not trying to be evil and she ?wrote? a Dear John-type song telling him that she?s over him and she really wants him to hear it and? he?s been married to someone else for more than a year. Again, she has every right to process all of this sh-t however she wants. She has the right to make music about Justin Bieber. But lordy, this does not seem healthy. And for all of the Selenators claiming that she?s really a queen telling her truth and all of this is amazing? yeah, again, Justin moved on almost two years ago and the fact that Selena is still doing this doesn?t bode well, I?m sorry.
