I?ve mentioned this many times before, but I watch cooking shows to relax. I find it so relaxing to watch Ina Garten or Bobby Flay just cook meals in their kitchens. Just straight-up cooking, not those competition shows or whatever ?showdown?. Just let me chill in a chef?s home kitchen so I can watch them make pancakes from scratch. Over the years, I?ve obviously chosen my favorites (Ina) and my least favorite: Giada De Laurentiis. I?ll be fair to Giada she can cook. She?s not, like, Sandra Lee, who uses pre-packaged everything. Giada knows how to cook, she develops her own recipes, she makes everything from scratch.
So why do I dislike Giada? Because at some point, her show just became about ?watch how Giada incorporates cheese into every gdamn dish.? The woman puts cheese in EVERYTHING. She puts cheese in cookies, in cakes, in beef dishes. She puts cheese on vegetables, she puts cheese in or on literally every side dish, main dish, appetizer and dessert. For those of us on the friendly side of lactose intolerant (plus I just hate the smell of most cheeses), it?s flat-out disgusting. But instead of saying to herself ?maybe all of this damn cheese is making me feel sick,? Giada has focused her energy on ?prepackaged snacks are bad.? This is all to promote her most recent cookbook, which is basically a look into her elimination diet.
As Giada De Laurentiis filmed her show Giada at Home, she would spend the day chowing down on rich baked goods and cheese-laded pastas on camera and then subsist on pre-packaged snacks to give her an energy boost during the long days. But it left her feeling bloated and tired. The days filled with heavy foods which shed often end back at home with take-out led De Laurentiis, 50, to reset her diet, which is the focus of her new book, Eat Better, Feel Better: My Recipes for Wellness Healing, Inside and Out, she told Today.
I was snacking on all the wrong foods lots of sugar, caffeine, pre-packaged snacks basically anything that I thought would give me energy to get through the day, she said. My body was paying the price.
The first step, De Laurentiis said, was to pay attention to how she was feeling. I started really listening to my body and eating the foods that loved me back, she said. That helped my body heal itself and also indicated what foods worked for my body and what foods didnt.
For De Laurentiis, that meant meal prepping at the start of the week and batch cooking things like quinoa, brown rice, roasted sweet potatoes or cauliflower, and chicken broth. This made it easy to throw lunches together, she said. Once you have everything prepped, its super-simple to make delicious, nutrient-dense meals in a matter of minutes. I used to shop for what I felt like eating in the moment, but I realized that I wasnt buying the most nutritious ingredients or meals because of it, she explained. Planning meals helps you stay on track and not over-buy.
[From People]
Oh wow you don?t say, she felt bloated, tired and gross after consuming five pounds of cheese every day? But sure, the problem is ?snacking,? right. I mean, good for her for going with cleaner, simpler foods that weren?t so rich. But you know she?s making brown rice and quinoa and then grating a pound of cheese on top of it. I apologize for sounding so anti-cheese, and I know a lot of people do like to incorporate cheese into their meals, but holy hell. It?s like it never occurred to Giada that the real problem is that she shoves a massive amount of cheese into every dish she cooks? Like, girl, that is why you feel ill.

Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis has an interview with The Cut in which she describes her daily routine and work schedule. She does yoga, stretching and meditation and has previously said that she enjoys boxing and works in small amounts of exercise throughout her day. Giada, 47, reminded me a little of Kourtney Kardashian in that she goes to an acupuncturist who does ?muscle testing? to determine which supplements she should take. (Muscle testing is generally considered quackery, but instead of covering all that here I?ll just point you to the Kourtney K story I covered, in which I linked studies on it. Giada isn?t eliminating food groups or making decisions for her child based on muscle testing, so it?s likely harmless in this case.) She said she takes 20 pills a day, although she doesn?t specify what they, and claims they prevent sinus infections.
On taking 20 vitamins a day:
My acupuncturist makes my little supplement bags for me. I try to go once a week. She muscle-tests me for what she thinks I need. The only regular things that I take are vitamin D, a probiotic, a prebiotic, and biotin. Everything else will sort of switch out. It?s like a baggie of ? I hate to say this ? 20 pills a day. Which is a lot. I have to tell her, ?You can?t give me more than 20 pills a day. I cannot take them.? I take ten in the morning and ten in the evening.
On scheduling appointments:
If I?m not shooting or I don?t have to be anywhere, I start my day with all of my appointments. Acupuncture, I try to do once a week. Yoga, I try to do five days a week. And then any doctors appointments. Because I travel so much and I?ve had a history of really bad sinus infections, I tend to get vitamin pushes from my doctor once a week when I get busy to try to get my immune system going and so that I don?t get sick. If I think about it, my free time is all taken up by maintenance for myself. I think people forget how much women, as we get older, have to keep up.
On assistants:
I only have one. She?s young and eager. I like to keep a very, very close knit group. I have a culinary director who helps me with all things food, and I have a social-media person who runs all my social along with me. I?m very type A in that way. I like to be on top of what I?m doing and I like to be in the middle. If I feel like I have too many people running too many things, then I lose track of what?s happening and who to ask.
On finding time to write:
The cookbooks get done every 18 months. It?s the cycle that I?ve been on for ten years. I will do some of it when I?m on vacation. For some reason, being at my house, I can?t relax. There?s too many distractions, so I?ll rent a house somewhere. I like to go to the mountains or Palm Springs. For my recent one, my daughter and I went to Rome, where my mother lives.
[From The Cut]
I take some pills daily but just a multivitamin, a probiotic and d-mannose to prevent UTIs. (I learned about that from some of your comments on a story I covered about Amy Schumer?s kidney infection!) I don?t see the benefit in taking 20 pills but maybe I?m missing out on something. Her supplements sound sensible though.
At 45 I also do a lot of ?self maintenance,? but I don?t think of it as maintenance or as ?keeping up? as an older woman. I just really like fitness, meditation, painting my toenails, getting my hair done, etc. It?s not a chore to take care of myself and is a nice way to spend time.
It sounds amazing to be able to rent a house or go on vacation to get a specific task done, like writing a book. Her answer about having a ?very close knit group? of help and ?only? having one assistant, a social media person and a culinary director sounds out of touch. It?s probably rare among her circle of famous people to keep staff limited. I only have family members and friends who sometimes pick up things for me from the store when I?m busy. My kid takes out the trash and helps with the laundry and cleaning. Such a close knit group.
A rainy day spent with @ray_kachatorian is a good day (say that 5x fast!) @gdlitalian

Here is Giada De Laurentiis leaving the Giorgio Baldi restaurant in Santa Monica.
She is by no means a classic beauty, I’ll admit. Square face, five finger forehead, no butt. Yet, for some reason I find her sexy as hell.
This luxurious family-run Italian spot near the ocean serves seafood & pastas plus a long wine list.

| Giada De Laurentiis & husband Todd separate after 11 years of marriage | Added 9 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

Well, well, well. After years of blind items and sketchy tabloid reports, it seems that where there was smoke, there was fire. Giada De Laurentiis and her husband Todd Thompson have split after 11 years of marriage. If you watch Giada?s Food Network show, you?ve seen Giada cooking for Todd and his friends for years. He seemed to adore his wife, although? I don?t know, Todd just struck me as such an achingly vanilla guy. Giada brought all the spice to their marriage, you know? Giada and Todd have been together since they were kids, and they have one child, daughter Jade, together. Giada announced the split on Facebook:
After an amicable separation since July, Todd and I have decided to end our marriage. Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our family’s happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate, yet always connected paths. Todd and I share a beautiful daughter and a lifetime of great memories that we both treasure more than anything. We are so thankful for our friends and family, and really appreciate the support in this time of change.
[From Facebook]
This is the thing to do these days ? announce your split during the holidays. Chris Rock knows what I?m talking about. I guess celebrities think that people won?t be paying as close attention to them. I wonder how that works out for them.
Anyway?E! News has a detailed story full of old quotes about their marriage. Giada says her family used to give Todd a hard time because he?s not Italian, but they grew to love him. E! News points out that Giada works and travels a lot and that was probably pretty hard on them. E! also brought up the John Mayer rumors, which? I mean, I always suspected those stories were true. She denied it at the time though. Maybe they’re splitting because of Giada’s obsession with minuscule food portions.
Oh, and E! brought out this stupid old quote from Giada: “I think it can be hard for any man to sometimes be upstaged by his wife. So when I’m home, I work very hard to be Todd’s wife and Jade’s mother. I have no problem going back to those traditional roles. I try to be Giada, the young girl that he met 20 years ago and fell in love with. All men want to be treated like kings in a relationship, and I think if women don’t indulge that sometimes, their men are likely to stray and look for someone who can give that to them. It’s simple. It’s not brain surgery.” Shut your pie hole, Giada.

| Giada de Laurentiis stays so slender by never eating the food she cooks | Added 10 years ago | Source: CeleBitchy |

I watch a lot of Food Network and Cooking Channel programming. It?s not that I?m food-obsessed or cooking-obsessed, it?s just that watching people cook or talk about food is particularly relaxing to me, quite honestly. I have my favorite people, like Ina Garten and Tyler Florence. I?ve gotten used to Ree Drummond and the Farmhouse Rules woman (I like her because she looks like she eats her rich food). But I?ve sort of grown to dislike Giada De Laurentiis. I got increasingly tired of her ability to put cheese in every single dish that she makes. I got tired of her sometimes gross-looking faux-Italian food. And I got tired of miniscule portions, just because they seemed utterly unreasonable (especially when she was feeding groups of men!!). I?ve always wondered how Giada stays so tiny considering she seems to live on cheese, pasta and Nutella. And now Page Six has an interesting story about how little Giada actually eats.
Food Network chef Giada De Laurentiis refuses to eat her own food while filming her show and has a ?dump bucket? on hand to spit it all out to stay pin thin, a show source reveals. The petite TV host, ?Today? show contributor and cookbook author insists she stays a size 2 by eating everything in moderation.
She recently said how she stays so thin while cooking rich and tasty food ?is the No. 1 question [from fans and interviewers], and the answer is, I eat a little bit of everything and not a lot of anything. Everything in moderation.? She said to health.com, ?I know that?s really hard for people to understand, but I grew up in an Italian family where we didn?t overdo anything. We ate pasta, yes, but not a lot of it. Pasta doesn?t make you fat. How much pasta you eat makes you fat.?
But a source on her show tells us, ?When Giada films her cooking show, she never eats. Never. When she is making drinks and food that she has to drink or eat, they have a dump bucket that is brought out the second they cut.? She spits it out, and then filming resumes, the source said.
?Sometimes when they are shooting her taking bites out of food like cake, they have an assistant take the bite (so you only see teeth and a mouth), and then they cut back to her taking an empty fork out of her mouth to resume filming.? The secret of why she is so skinny: ?She does not eat at all while filming.? Other sources said it was commonplace to have a bucket on set for a food show.
Asked about the insider?s claim, Giada?s rep Stephen Huvane said: ?That is absurd and completely false. She absolutely eats her own food while filming.? He added, ?Giada tapes sometimes three episodes in one day, and they do multiple takes on a close-up of her eating. She doesn?t always eat and swallow every time, since they can do sometimes six to 10 takes with three episodes a day, and that would be like eating six to eight meals a day .?.?. The bottom line is, she most certainly does eat the food she prepares on the show, but does not always consume the whole dish, as that would be too much for most people to eat in one day.?
[From Page Six]
I think having a ?dump bucket? or whatever is completely normal for any kind of film or TV show in which actors or chefs need to ?eat? on camera. So, it wouldn?t surprise me if most chefs/cooks on The Food Network sometimes spit out their food or whatever. But it also wouldn?t surprise me if Giada rarely ? if ever ? really ate the food she cooks on set. But maybe that?s just me ? the smell of all of that stupid cheese (that she puts in EVERY DISH) would make me nauseous (I?m not a cheese person, obviously).
