Kate Walsh, 51, has a sponcon type post with US Magazine with a demonstration video from a studio called Ballet Beautiful. It looks like classic ballet moves at a bar and like a great workout. It reminds me of pilates, which uses similar moves, and which I did a whole ten minutes of last night. I know I do too much cardio, Ive talked about it here (hey kitten) and am trying to do more strength training. I chase that exercise high and calorie burn. Kates story is reminding me to go easier on my body and to focus more on overall wellness. She had a hip replacement just seven months agos and loves ballet training for both recovery and the benefits shes seeing. Im sure shes getting paid too, but it sounds like she was a customer of the studio before she started endorsing it. Kates trainer talked about getting results without punishing your body and I really needed to hear that.
?My stylist recommended it,? [Kate Walsh] tells Us. ?It?s so Hollywood, but she?s like, ?If you want to keep that butt up, go to Ballet Beautiful.? And I was like, ?Got it, done.? It?s in my best interest.?
Walsh began going to the model-beloved studio, founded by professional dancer Mary Helen Bowers, a few months ago ? after she had hip replacement surgery. ?I had a hip replacement seven months ago and it?s amazing,? Walsh tells Us of how the NYC-based class helped her recovery. ?Just the movements in this workout particularly are so hip-opening, hip-centric.?
Bowers agrees. With her barre-based workout, she tells Us, ?you?re building strength without overtaxing the body. You don?t have to punish your body to have a great workout. Thats something people dont always understand [you don't have] to do crazy cardio to change the way the body is shaped.? With some adjustments, the low-impact routine is also a good pregnancy workout, both pre- and post-natal, says the pro.

Im somewhat dreading getting stuff replaced when I get older (ok in a handful of years) but its likely inevitable. My mom had a knee replacement and I know people who have had hip replacements. As long as you do the rehab recovery is possible. Also, when you hear stories about people exercising and doing well just a few months after a joint replacement it makes you think it wont be that bad. Maybe if I do more strength training and less jumping around I can avoid needing things replaced, but that ship has probably sailed.
I forgot about this fug dress she wore to the Umbrella Academy premiere. I keep hearing about that series, its on Netflix now. I linked to these premiere photos on Go Fug Yourself, her sleeves are way bigger than they look from the side.

Whenever I get mesmerized by the latest beauty trend, which happens often with this job, I make myself consider the ridiculous amount of products I already have. (There are also drugstore dupes and cheaper products on amazon which are almost as good.) The other day I was drooling over the new $50 Urban Decay rose eyeshadow palette. So instead of splurging on it, I realized I had a Smashbox palette with similar blush colors that I could mix and use as eyeshadow. This is such a silly first world problem and yet I face it often: will that new product or accessory be worth the splurge or is there a substitute? Thats why I was interested in this beauty product interview with actress Kate Walsh, 51. Its a sponcon in that shes representing the new Vaseline skincare line, but she sells the hell out of it by talking about her whole routine, including her haircare. She said that you can even use hand cream on your hair in a pinch. Is this because Vaseline doesnt make haircare products yet or is it a useful beauty hack? Kate dyes her roots every three weeks (me too!) so this dry hair is a real problem for her.
She recommends a lot of sleep
Our skin repairs during sleep, but most of us dont get enough of it. Ill turn my device off an hour before bed and I just found out about the option on my phone that says, Turn off your apps and Im so into it. I cheated a couple of times and was like, I need to open up Instagram once more, but I love it because it?s hard to manage so much stimulation and shut your brain down and quiet the mind,? she explains. Her other tips before bedtime? Getting her feelings out on paper and relaxing in the tub. ?I write at night to empty out my brain and it helps in terms of sleep, health, and self-care. I?m also a big fan of hot baths!?
She stays positive
Besides self-care and hair color upkeep, Walsh believes happiness is the main secret to being beautiful. ?Even if I wake up in the darkest mood ever I?m like, ?Today is a perfect day.? When things get really crazy, busy and I get really stressed, I start to think about all the things that I love,? she explains. ?People are like, ?You look good.? And I?m like, ?I?m just so happy.? I feel my best after I get a good night?s sleep, when I?m in New York, walking my dogs, hanging out with my friends, having a nice cup of French pressed coffee with heavy cream or going to workout. I have my regular routine and I love it,? she adds.
Her one weird beauty hack
Maintaining her famous red locks is also important to Walsh. ?I have to get my roots done about every three weeks if Im being honest and I use a cleansing conditioner that?s sulfate-free and doesn?t dry my hair out or strip the color,? she reveals. If she?s ever suffering from a rare bad hair day, Walsh grabs her Extremely Dry Rescue Cream and put it on her ends. ?I have balayage right now and highlights in my hair, so it?s a little drier so even if you just have a hand cream, put it on your ends,? she recommends. The actress also makes sure to take Biotin, Reservatrol, and omegas to keep it strong and healthy.

My very gray hair, at 45, is incredibly resistant to dye. My hairdresser said hes never seen anything like it and were assuming that its due to the progesterone pills Im taking. The only way I can color my hair is to use box dye and leave it on twice as long. So my hair is getting very dry as Kate mentioned. Over the counter treatments are inexpensive though, and I wouldnt use hand cream on it unless I forgot conditioner while was camping (I never do that). I can imagine not having like a highlighter for your face or forgetting blush or something, but not conditioner. That said, I love those tips for using cheap household products as hair treatments or face masks.I googled Vaseline hair and there are tips for using pure Vaseline as a split end treatment, but people say you have to use it sparingly as its very difficult to get out. I dont mind spending a few dollars for something specifically for that purpose.

You may have seen the recent TV ads from health insurance provider Cigna, featuring some of your favorite TV doctors. The first ad, which debuted a few weeks ago, featured Alan Alda from M*A*S*H, Noah Wyle from ER, Lisa Edelstein from House (I miss that show), Donald Faison from Scrubs (yup, miss that one too) and Patrick Dempsey from Grey?s Anatomy, encouraging people to get their annual check-ups. There?s a new ad in the ?TV Doctors of America? campaign and, along with the return of Donald and Patrick, Neil Patrick Harris and Patrick’s Grey’s co-star Kate Walsh join them to once again spread the word about the importance of annual doctor visits.
Kate, who has spent much of her career playing a doctor on television, was motivated to take part in the campaign after a recent health scare. The 49-year-old actress revealed in an interview with Cosmopolitan that, in June of 2015, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
In recalling the events leading upon to the horrible discovery, Kate said that, after wrapping work on her series Bad Judge in January of 2015, she had been feeling exhausted. “I had been working insane hours, maybe 80 hours a week, and also working out really hard, so I wasn’t surprised.” As time went on, she noticed that she was favoring her right side and having trouble completing sentences.
She finally went to the neurologist and pushed to have an MRI because, as she put it, ?they don?t hand out MRIs so easily,? and found out she had a meningeal tumor the size of a lemon in the left frontal lobe of her brain. Upon the discovery, Kate said ?I just left my body? and admitted ?It was never anything I would have imagined.?
Three days later, she had surgery to have it removed, and discovered that, fortunately, it was benign. After the surgery, Kate recalled, ?I was just so relieved to know there was something wrong, that it wasn?t just my imagination and that my instincts were correct.”
Kate, who also shared her story on Monday’s episode of TODAY, confessed that the whole incident was a ?very private experience? but ?knew that someday I would want to share it.? One of the reasons she did was to let women know that it could happen to them too. She noted, ?One of the most interesting things for me about this diagnosis was that this tumor is twice as common in women as men. It can be especially hard for women to take time out for their health ? you?re mothers, you?re career women, you?re spinning all of these plates, and it?s hard sometimes to hand over the superwoman cape and ask for help.?
And that?s where the Cigna campaign came into play. Kate said of it, “I loved the humor of the storytelling, poking fun at TV doctors, and it was a way for me to talk about my own personal experience and be of service to others.” And her take-away from the whole experience is really some sage advice for all of us:
?Go see a doctor! We?re all so socialized to try to self-diagnose, like ‘I?ll change my workout, I’ll change my diet.’ I’m very proactive and willful and independent, and in the past, even though I played a doctor on TV for years, I was not one to go see doctors very often, other than for my annual OB-GYN appointment. So for me, it was a really big wakeup call to do annual check-ups, and that?s why I wanted to pair up with Cigna for this campaign. I love the idea of changing the framing around healthcare, and changing it from a reactionary thing ? ‘Oh my god, I?m sick, I have to go to the doctor’ ? to something more along the lines of preventive care. We should go get a checkup the same way we go to the gym, just preventively, instead of waiting for something to go wrong.?
[From Cosmopolitan]
Brain tumors are scary. I lost a friend to one many years ago. He was just 42, had two young kids and no previous symptoms. You just never know, but Kate?s 100% correct and I?m glad shoes sharing her story to encourage proactive care. I don?t have insurance myself (and I work for an insurance company), so I can?t afford to get checkups. But after this story, I think I?m going to look into my options.

Kate Walsh, 48, was on Maria Menounos’s Sirius radio show last week, where she opened up about the fact that she went through early menopause and was never able to have kids like she wanted. It sounded kind of sad the way she described it, especially when taken in context of her previous comments about really wanting kids but feeling like a loser for not being able to have them. Kate got divorced in early 2009 after being married to Alex Young for about a year and a half. They jumped into marriage after just seven months of dating and it unsurprisingly didn’t work out for them. It sounds like she has some regrets but is philosophical about them, realizing that she focused on her career when it was still an option to have kids, and wondering aloud if anyone can have it all anyway. Here’s

I don’t watch a whole lot of TV, unless you count fast-forwarding through Modern Family for the Sofia Vergara cleavage, so I didn’t know that Kate Walsh was on some new show called Bad Judge until seeing her filming scenes on the beach. And I think this might be one of the most offensive things […]

Kicking off her week with some media duties, Kate Walsh was spotted at ?Good Morning America? earlier today (April 23).
The ?Private Practice? actress looked to be in great spirits as she discussed the drama and fun of her hit show.
Kate talked about her excitement over her character Addison getting a baby during the most recent episode of her show.
?I literally got teary. I didn?t find out until the table read. It?s literally the last thing that happens in the episode. So, yeah it was really exciting.?
As for how motherhood will affect Addison, Kate noted, ?I think that it kind of softens her up a bit. The whole show this year, a lot of it deals with parenthood and family dynamics and kind of growing up. I think that was the theme that Shonda (Rimes, writer/creator) had started with when transitioning from ?Grey?s Anatomy? to ?Private Practice.??
