Hayden Christensen used to get a lot of crap for his performance as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels. I think he did his best with the material that he was given. Anakin comes off as a whiny, petulant brat a lot of the time and some of the dialogue that George Lucas wrote for him has become a punchline in the fandom. Whenever the occasion calls for it, Mr. Rosie and I actually still put on our best whiny voices and joke, ?It?s all Obi Wan?s fault! He?s holding me back!?
But, time has a way of changing our perspective and lending fondness that wasn?t there before. Unlike when Lucas digitally replaced Sebastian Shaw with Christensen at the end of Return of the Jedi, people were excited when Hayden Christensen popped up as Anakin/Darth Vader in ?Obi Wan.? I think the character in ?Star Wars: The Clone Wars?? being drawn to look like Christensen?s Anakin went a long way in conditioning viewers to finally accept him in the role, even though he did not voice the animated version. So when Christensen popped up to challenge Ahsoka in the World Between Worlds in episodes 4 and 5 of ?Ahsoka,? fans were beyond ecstatic. Turns out, Christensen is also happy to be back in the Jedi robes.
Disney is sharing a behind-the-scenes look at Christensens return. In a featurette recorded before the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Ahsoka series creator Dave Filoni explains why he wanted to resurrect the man who would become Darth Vader for a climactic conversation between Master and Padawan.
You know, as I was figuring out the story for Ahsoka, I just really thought, Well, theres an opportunity,' Filoni says in the video. I could bring Anakin and Ahsoka together. Its just awesome.
Off screen, Christensen and Dawson have a long history: Not only did they star together in 2003s Shattered Glass, but Dawson explains that theyve known each other for decades, bringing real-life emotion to their onscreen reunion. (The pair can be seen rehearsing and filming their big lightsaber battle, high-fiving afterward.)
I met Hayden when I was 16, Dawson says. We were in an acting school together over a summer. To have that kind of history with him, it really was like seeing my old friend.
Ahsoka isnt Christensens first time revisiting Anakin: The actor reunited with his prequel costar Ewan Mcgregor in last years Obi-Wan Kenobi, playing Vader and also appearing in a flashback as a younger Anakin. But Ahsoka might be his meatiest Star Wars role since 2005s Revenge of the Sith, following Anakin as he teaches his former Padawan one last lesson in the ethereal Force dimension known as the World Between Worlds.
Putting on the Anakin costume, getting to wear those Jedi robes, it kind of blows your mind every time, Christensen says. I just feel very grateful.

Like I said above, for most viewers, I think ?Clone Wars? saved the character of Anakin after the dismal treatment he was given in the prequels. I?ve seen Christensen in other movies, like his performance in Life As a House, and thought the blowback on his stiff acting wasn?t entirely fair. Its not like Natalie Portman turned in her best work, either. I?m glad the character was redeemed and that Hayden was game to come back to a fandom that didn?t receive him well 20 years ago. I?m almost as happy he returned as I was to see Ahmed Best (voice of Jar Jar Binks) finally get his redemption and due in ?The Mandalorian? last season. That dude had it even worse than HC did.

I always forget that Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen got together about a decade ago, and I always forgot that they were still together and they had a baby too. They really flew undercover, especially in the past five years or so. Part of their ?undercover? status was that they both truly shunned the spotlight, and part of it was that the spotlight wasn?t really looking for them. Anyway, Us Weekly now says that they?re done and they?ve been done for several months. What of Briar Rose Christensen?!
Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have split after nearly ten years together, a source exclusively confirms to Us Weekly. ?She?s full-time back in L.A. He?s in Toronto,? says the insider. “They?ve been on the outs for a couple of months.? The source adds: “They are completely, officially done.?
The actors first met on set of their 2008 film Jumper and got engaged that December. They quietly called off their engagement in August 2010, only to reconcile three months later. Bilson gave birth to their daughter, Briar Rose, in October 2014. “Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson welcome their daughter Briar Rose Christensen born on October 29, 2014,” her rep told Us Weekly in a statement at the time. “Both mother and baby are healthy and doing well.?
Their little girl?s moniker is a nod to the duo’s mutual love of Disney. “There?s a Disney reference there I suppose,” Christensen said during an appearance on Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family in August 2015. “The original Sleeping Beauty is called Briar Rose. Rachel ? we both love Disney ? but Rachel especially was very keen on the name.”
Bilson, 36, and Christensen, 36, have kept their relationship private throughout their years, however the Hart of Dixie alum gushed about her life with the Shattered Glass actor in a May 2013 interview with Cosmopolitan. “I’m a really good girlfriend ? I always put all that first in my life. I’m definitely the person who would make him his favorite dinner to come home to,” Bilson said at the time. “I love to cook, so we make dinner at home a lot and watch movies.”

I forgot that they did the breakup-and-makeup cycle in 2010 too! Damn. And I guess they never did get married? I can?t find anything about a wedding or a wedding announcement, so I guess they broke off their engagement years ago and then just never got re-engaged when they did get back together. That makes me sad – I get the feeling that Rachel adored him and I get the feeling he was a major pill. I hope Rachel and little Briar Rose are able to move on and find happiness elsewhere.

If you look at Hayden Christensen?s IMDB, you can see that he?s worked somewhat consistently since his big ?breakthrough? in Star Wars Episode II. He?s taken a few years off here and there and I wouldn?t say that he?s really in any kind of demand as an actor, but he still gets work and he still accepts roles, on average about three projects every two years. CB reminded me that Hayden bought a farm in Canada and he spends a lot of time there, raising pigs and chickens and what have you. So? sure. But here?s my question: did Hayden walk away from Hollywood or did he just stop getting the kind of roles he wanted, so now he?s trying to play it like it was all his choice? Hayden spoke to the LA Times about becoming famous so early in his life, and how he walked away.
Why he?s ?largely retreated from Hollywood?: “I guess I felt like I had this great thing in ‘Star Wars’ that provided all these opportunities and gave me a career, but it all kind of felt a little too handed to me. I didn’t want to go through life feeling like I was just riding a wave.”
How his ?time off? affected his career: “You can’t take years off and not have it affect your career. But I don’t know ? in a weird, sort of destructive way, there was something appealing about that to me. There was something in the back of my head that was like, ‘If this time away is gonna be damaging to my career, then so be it. If I can come back afterward and claw my way back in, then maybe I’ll feel like I earned it.’”

The only thing I?ve seen Hayden in where I thought he genuinely did a good job was Shattered Glass, the movie he did in between filming Star Wars episodes. It?s not that he blew me away with his amazing talent, but I thought he did a solid job and if he stuck with it, he would end up a talented ensemble player/character actor. The problem, in my mind, is that all of the young guys think they?re going to be leading men. They think they?re going to be action stars, the romantic hero, the big kahuna. And despite what Hayden says now, I bet if he had been offered that kind of work post-Star Wars, he would have taken it. What he should have been doing was just focusing on smaller work, ensemble work, working with interesting people. Then maybe he wouldn?t have to try to convince people that it was his choice to walk away.

Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen, both 33, have welcomed their first child together. It seems like Rachel has been pregnant forever, but that’s probably because she was getting papped constantly during her pregnancy. Plus she had her baby shower in late August, which is just about right as she would have been 32 weeks along but it still seems like a long time ago. Rachel had a baby girl, whom they named Briar Rose. That’s the original title of The Grimm Brothers fairy tale which became Sleeping Beauty. The couple gave their baby girl a Disney princess-themed name — Briar Rose! The adorable moniker is a nod to the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty; sheltering Princess Aurora from Maleficent’s curse, the three fairies call the little girl Briar Rose. It’s also the name that was used in the original Grimm Brothers fairy tale in 1812.
Us broke the news back in May that Bilson, 33, and the Star Wars actor, also 33, were expecting a baby. “They’ve both talked about this for awhile and are so excited,” an insider told Us. “Everyone is beyond thrilled for them.”

Rose is a beautiful name, but Briar? I guess they could call her “Bri,” but that sounds short for Brian. It’s a bizarre name to me, but there are definitely worse baby names. Plus at least they’re sharing their baby’s name with the press. They even explained where the name came from. I appreciate when celebrities do that. Congratulations to Rachel and Hayden!

It?s been a week full of baby announcement and Rachel Bilson didn?t want to be left out of the bunch! On Thursday (November 5), the ?Hart of Dixie? beauty gave birth to her first child.
The 33-year-old actress welcomed her bundle of joy with boyfriend Hayden Christensen in Los Angeles.
According to reports, the couple named their daughter after Princess Aurora?s nickname in Disney?s ?Sleeping Beauty.? Their girl?s name is Briar Rose. How sweet!
We first reported that Rachel and Hayden were expecting a baby in May. A source told Us Weekly that the couple is full of joy, saying, ?They've both talked about this for a while and are so excited. Everyone is beyond thrilled for them."

They?re about to add a lot of Pink into their household because Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen are reportedly expecting a baby girl.
According to People, sources shared that the couple is getting ready to welcome a little princess into the world.
A rep for Bilson denies the report and calls the source?s claim ?speculation and gossip.?
This isn?t surprising since the ?Hart of Dixie? star and her ?Star Wars? beau have remained very quiet on the pending parenthood. Neither of the actors or their reps have confirmed the news at this time.

Stepping out for a social call, Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen attended a friend?s birthday party in Los Angeles on Saturday (June 21).
The preggers ?Hart of Dixie? dame covered up her baby bump in a beautiful flowing dress as she accompanied her handsome fianc into the shindig.
Rachel told Health magazine that motherhood is an exciting adventure and she can?t wait to get things underway.
?I've always wanted to be a mom. I have always wanted kids. I can just see this little toddler waddling around the house? [And Hayden has been] incredibly supportive and considerate.?

Granted, I don?t pay that much attention to Hayden Christensen these days, but when I saw these new photos of him in Beijing, I burst out laughing. It?s the combination of not seeing him in a while, seeing his new hairstyle (Ice, Ice, Baby) and seeing the expression on his face. These photos just make my day! It?s not even that I dislike Hayden or anything ? I don?t really feel strongly about him whatsoever. He?s just sort of there. But OMG, his hair.
Hayden was in Beijing with Liu Yifei and Nicolas Cage to promote their new film together, Outcast. Yes, Hayden is now doing those dumb Cage movies. It sort of fits. Outcast is described as such: ?A mysterious warrior teams up with the daughter and son of a deposed Chinese Emperor to defeat their cruel Uncle, who seeks their deaths.? I?m assuming Cage is the mysterious warrior, so what does Hayden play?!
Also: Nic Cage?s wiglet makes my life. I love the ponytail!! John Travolta needs to start wearing wiglets with ponytails.

Enjoying their vacation to the max, Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen did some shopping on Friday (April 19) in Barbados.
The happy couple walked hand-in-hand as they hit up Gatsby, while the ?Heart of Dixie? honey kept cool in a cream dress with black print.
Appearing on May?s cover of Cosmopolitan, the gorgeous actress spoke to the publication about making the duo?s long-time relationship a priority.
"I'm a really good girlfriend-- I always put all that first in my life. I'm definitely the person who would make him his favorite to come home to," Bilson explains. "I love to cook, so we make dinner at home a lot and watch movies."

I just saw these super cute photos of Rachel Bilson frolicking on the beach in Barbados with her boyfriend of many years, Hayden Christensen, and I thought “please don’t let Hart of Dixie be over, please don’t let it be over” since I love that show and thought that this was some kind of promotion for the finale. But it’s not! There are four more episodes and I didn’t even see last night’s episode yet so there are five for me, yay! (If you like romcoms you will like Hart of Dixie, it’s dumb sometimes but it’s also campy and awesome.)
This is Rachel telling us that she’s available for work now that “Hart of Dixie” filming has wrapped (presumably) and that we should be paying attention to her. We are, and she looks super cute. I wish I had a body like that, damn. She looks thin but not emaciated and I’m surprised at how “curvy” she is, although she isn’t really curvy. I never knew what Dr. Zoe Hart was packing under those dress shorts.
This also might be Rachel, 31, announcing that she’s engaged! You know that Hayden Panettiere (there are too many Haydens in this story) recently did that, she staged some bikini photos to sort-of announce that she was engaged to Klitschko, that lucky bitch. I’m not jealous of Rachel or anything since Hayden C. is not that hot to me and he’s not a decent actor. (Gah, Star Wars.) But good for her, you know? She looks super happy and relaxed and I like that she’s not looking all haughty or posing with duck lips.
The last we heard of Rachel she was on Cosmo saying that she was a great girlfriend and she puts her man first. She said “I’m definitely the person who would make him his favorite dinner to come home to.” She also said she wanted kids and that “I definitely have family on the brain.” So is she engaged?! It’s not like she’s rocking a ring on the beach, but Hayden might have proposed on this romantic beach vacation. That’s what Wade would do, but [highlight for spoilers for past Hart of Dixie episodes] Zoe dumped that cheating bastard. She’s probably going to get with that new hot doctor dude, Jonah.
OMG look at this monkey pic!! I would be grinning like that around a little wet monkey too. That’s why she looks so thrilled.
