Good news, children of the 90s, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince are back! Bad news, if you want to see them, you better have a passport and some major dough. Yep, Will Smith and Jeff Townes are hitting the road together for the first time in 12 years.
Back in November of 2015, Will told Ellen DeGeneres that he and Jeff planned to tour, citing his work on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air as the reason they never hit the road together, adding ?I never actually had a chance to go on tour, so I really want to get out there and do it for real.?
And now, hot on the heels of the recent unofficial Fresh Prince reunion, Will, not 48 and Jeff, 52 will perform two European gigs – at MTV?s Summerblast Festival in Croatia on Aug. 26 and the Livewire Festival in Blackpool, northwest England, the following day. Will made the announcement on Facebook on Monday. Along with a vintage video from their heyday, Will posted ?First two shows are locked!! Y?all ready?!? Jeff shared the video on Instagram with the caption, ?Yup…and THIS IS FINALLY HAPPENING!!!?
I can only hope these gigs are just a warm-up for a full-scale tour. Will and Jeff have not confirmed if they will be performing at any other events, but I?ve got my fingers crossed. And, in honor of this news, I?ll just leave this here…

One of my Facebook friends posts cute videos with the message “Do you need a smile today?” That’s what I thought of when I saw this clip of Will Smith on Jimmy Kimmel, above. He’s so charismatic and funny that I ended up laughing and clapping my hands while hearing this story. It’s also one of those short digestible stories that just makes you feel good, particularly the way it’s told. If you can’t listen with the sound on, please watch it anyway because just seeing Will Smith make gestures will give you the warm fuzzies. Smith is promoting his film Collateral Beauty, out December 16th, and costarring Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley. He plays a man confronting Love, Time and Death as concepts that connect us all. You can watch the trailer here and here’s what he said on Kimmel:
Do you ever disguise yourself and go out so that you’re not noticed?
I want people to recognize me. I’ve met a lot of people where fame can be a burden. I just love it. You be pointing at people.
About three weeks ago I was driving and I realized I was on E. I hadn’t been paying attention. I was like ‘Oh no.’ I was about thirty minutes from my house. I pulled into the gas station and I didn’t have my wallet. I was like ‘Oh, tragedy.’ I’m looking and I’m like ‘Well can I call Jada?’ Then she [has] to drive 30 minutes to come.
I was looking on the other side and I saw a dude, he was about 36 years old, and I’m like ‘That dudes a Fresh Prince fan.’ You can spot ‘em.
I kind of rolled the window down I was like [poses smiling]. After a couple of minutes he was like ‘Will?’ He said ‘Hey man, can I get a picture?’
I said ‘Yeah man, I need about $10.’ He was like ‘Really?’ We took the selfie he lent me the $10. I was like ‘Give me your number I’ll send it back.’ He was like ‘Dude, no way that’s yours.’ I was like [points and smiles].
That story made me so happy and just watching Will Smith talk is like therapy.
Smith said his mustache is for a role, he’s playing an LA cop, and that he hates it basically, because it makes him look like the “Colt 45 Billy Dee.” He joked around that he’s a “tool for the director” and that he wants to make sure he helps realize the director’s vision. He’s working with David Ayer, who also did Suicide Squad. Smith said that Ayer takes hair seriously and once shaved off Jay Hernandez’s eyebrows to help him get in character as Diablo.
He also talked about the fact that he’s part owner of the Philadelphia 76ers. Kimmel asked him if he had any advice for the players and Will said they all seem so young to him and that they don’t need advice about how to make it, but about how not to screw it up. He said “As hard as it is to get it, you can mess it up in one drunk night. Your cousin can ruin the whole thing for you.” As for Bad Boys 3, Will confirmed Martin Lawrence’s news that they’re going to start shooting Bad Boys 3 soon!

There have have been rumors for years that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were having problems in their marriage of now 19 years. We heard back in late 2011/early 2012 that they were on the verge of a split and then stories came up again last summer that they were just about to divorce, which they denied. Both Will and Jada have admitted that their marriage is work and that they’ve gone through rough patches, but they also express a lot of admiration for each other and say they’re in it for the long haul. I don’t think either has said that they’re in couples therapy though until now. Will did an interview with The Sun where he admitted that he went through therapy with Jada and said that it was difficult but that they’re on the other side now.
Will has told how the couple sought therapy after their marriage reached breaking point. He said: ?I?ve done a lot of marriage counselling.
?What happens in a marriage once you do counselling, the truth comes out.
?And you sit across from your wife and you?ve said all of your truth and she has said all of her truth. You look at each other and you can?t imagine you could ever possibly love each other again now the truth is out.
?It creates a dark moment. But for me it?s the dark before the dawn. When the truth comes out and people have to say who they are and what they think, you get to know who they are.
?I think that?s the cleansing before you get to the other side that is understanding and moving forward in our relationship.?

This clears up a couple of things for me. One is that whatever dalliance Will and Jada had with Scientology is over now because Scientology is dead set against psychotherapy you don’t pay them for. Will not only going to therapy but admitting to it is an indication of that. (As background if you’re not familiar, Will and Jada had a now-closed private school based on Scientology teaching principles and run by primarily Scientology teachers. They donated money to Scientology organizations and while they denied being Scientologists they’ve expressed many personal philosophies consistent with the cult’s teachings, including seeing their children as adults in little bodies. They’ve since stepped back from that somewhat. Plus After Earth was said to be based on Scientology lore.) The other is that they did have problems like a lot of couples, the tabloids were right, and they put in the work to stay together. There’s something admirable about the fact that they’re admitting to that. While I don’t always agree with the things they say, they’re open and don’t b.s. the press and I appreciate that.

The 2016 elections will go on without Will Smith as a candidate (not that things aren’t interesting enough right now). On last weekend’s CBS Sunday Morning, the 47-year-old actor and rapper discussed his role in the upcoming movie, Concussion. Will plays Nigerian forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu, who went head-to-head with the NFL after publishing a paper detailing the brain damage experienced by a former football player.
In addition to showing off his (uncanny) impersonation of the good doctor – with the real Dr. Omalu sitting right next to him, Will hinted that movie and music stardom may not be his only life goals. He told CBS reporter Tracy Smith, “There’s a thing I’m supposed to be doing. There’s so much more that I feel I have to offer that I can’t reach myself.” When asked how he could find out that elusive thing, Will said “If people keep saying all the crazy kinds of stuff they?ve been saying on the news lately about walls and Muslims, they?re going to force me into the political arena,” and, when further prodded added, “I mean, I gotta be the president. What else would I run for? Come on!”
(Side note: if you have 9 minutes to spare, watch the interview. If you weren’t a Will Smith fan going in, I promise you that you’ll be one by the end of it.)
If it seemed like Will was kidding around about running for president in the interview, you would be right. At the New York premiere of Concussion, Will told ET, ?I was really kind of joking when I said that.? He added that his role as Dr. Omalu in the film awoke some political aspirations, stating ?Dr. Omalu has such a positive view of America and the American dream. As an actor, being able to be a part of that and to feel from the outsider’s perspective how great this country is, I sort of got inspired as I was looking at the current political landscape. I was inspired to defend the ideals that help build such a beautiful country.?
Sunday’s interview wasn’t the first time Will alluded to a possible career in politics. On an episode of the Awards Chatter podcast last month, he mused, “As I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there. This is the first year that I?ve been incensed to a level that I can?t sleep, you know? So I?m feeling that at some point, in the near future, I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way.”
Will might want to have a speech ready, but not for political office. Critics are saying that his performance in Concussion could earn Will his third Oscar nomination (he was previously nominated for Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness) – and they say that the third time’s the charm.
Will doesn’t have the time to run for president… unless he makes his reunion tour with DJ Jazzy Jeff into a series of political rallies. It would be kind of cool for him to revive his first hit and take the stage with “Politicians Just Don’t Understand”!

Above is a photo of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith at the premiere of his new movie, Concussion, for which he’s getting Oscar buzz. Jada wore this insane see-through sequin Zuhair Murad gown that Will is admiring. She’s about to rip the skirt off so it won’t trip her up when she does a double axle. This isn’t the first time that Jada has worn an obvious “look at me” outfit to one of Will’s events. Just last week she got her boobs out at the Latin Grammys, where Will performed, in yet another sheer and silver sequin dress.
Will’s face kind of says it all here, he has the best expressions.
Will has been fielding questions about his marriage, and he and Jada have put a lot out there about their relationship so that’s to be expected. When asked for the “secret” to his 20 year marriage Will said it’s hard work, basically.
“We’ve been married 20 years and we’ve been asking ourselves [what?s the secret to marriage] and really at the end of the day it?s just not quitting,” the 47-year-old actor said of Pinkett Smith, who he first started dating in 1995 and then married two years later. “You can?t expect it to be easy, it?s like our marriage was the most difficult, grueling, excruciating thing that we have ever taken on in our lives. And you know were just not quitters and by the same token we’re not apathetic. We’re not going to sit there and let it be painful, we’re going to keep working.”
?If there is a secret I would say is that we never went into working our relationship. We only ever worked on ourselves individually, and then presented ourselves to one another better than we were previously.”

I could shade Will for this because a lot of people think long term relationships should be “easy,” but when you have two strong-willed highly motivated people like this I don’t doubt that they clash. At least he’s being honest, although he doesn’t sound too positive about it. I don’t really understand how he could say that they never worked on their relationship together and only “worked on ourselves individually, and then presented ourselves to one another better than we were previously.” Maybe that works for them, or doesn’t work depending on what is going on behind the scenes, but what about learning to communicate and work things out? It sounds like they just avoid each other for a while and get back together when they’ve had enough alone time. That’s pretty much the impression I’ve had of their relationship.
Will has several more interviews promoting Concussion, based on the true story of a forensic doctor who fought the NFL to bring awareness to the epidemic of traumatic brain injury among football players. It’s out on Christmas. GQ has a cute video interview in which he describes his worst 80s fashion fail, a half-shirt on Fresh Prince, and also talks about one of his son’s fashion moments, where Jaden wore a batman suit to a girl’s prom. Will explained that Jada talked their son into at least wearing a tie with it, “so I blame his mother.”

Oh and a lot of outlets are talking about Will revealing that he turned down the lead in Django Unchained because he wanted to make it more of a love story than a revenge tale and Tarantino wasn’t on board. Will said this during The Hollywood Reporter’s Actors Roundtable discussion, but Forbes points out that this is actually the second explanation he’s given for not taking that role. Back when promoting After Earth (ha), Will said he didn’t do Django because Christoph Waltz’s bounty hunter character got to be the hero and kill the bad guy, not his intended slavecharacter, who was ultimately played by Jamie Foxx. It just sounds like he tried to tell Tarantino how to make his movie and Tarantino wasn’t having it. I can’t imagine Will Smith in that role anyway, Jamie Foxx was so impressive.

Last Friday, we reported on a story from The National Enquirer which claimed that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith would be filing for divorce at the end of the summer. The Enquirer took it a step further than your typical speculation and said that the famous couple had already worked out a monetary agreement for splitting their assets. It seemed plausible to me, especially since The Enquirer was one of the outlets which called the Battfleck divorce well ahead of time.
This is the summer of divorces, but it looks like Will and Jada might not be joining all the other famous splitting couples. The two have denied that they’re getting a divorce. Will posted a denial on Facebook and a source gave a denial to Gossip Cop. What’s more is that Jada did an interview with the American Airlines inflight magazine in which she denied she’s getting a divorce and said that “marriages shift.” She always says things like that though, so it’s not like it’s an indication of anything new. Do you remember when Willow and Jaden Smith gave that bizarre interview to The NY Times last fall? Willow said that time didn’t exist, Jaden said that he could control time, and he also claimed that school was useless. He said he only went to school for a year because “you never learn anything in school,” particularly driver’s ed, “because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can?t see how driver?s ed is really helping them out.” It was bizarre, specious reasoning, but that pretty much characterizes the Smith kids, who were raised with Scientology teaching methods. (Although I doubt that they’re even being taught anything at this point, given that Will and Jada believe in letting them do whatever they want.)
During the Sony hack, we saw an email that executive Tom Rothman (head of TriStar) sent to Amy Pascal in which he pointed to the interview and mentioned that the kids were home schooled. He wrote “1. Read this 2. they r home schooled: don?t let this family date your movies!!!“” It was probably a quick message written on a phone and it was true, the Smith kids are home schooled, if they even are schooled at this point. Plus that was well after Will and Jaden’s horrible bomb of a Scientology propaganda film, After Earth, had come out in early 2013. That was an expensive mistake for Sony. (After Earth was distributed by Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony.)
On the red carpet for his new heist film, Focus, Will laughed off a mention of that email and said it was meant to be private anyway. Plus he said he has worked with Rothman in the past and implied that that’s not going to change.
?Everybody disses my kids,? Smith said Tuesday with an outsized chuckle. ?To me, that?s just part of the business. And somebody?s email is private, you know? So I would never hold anybody responsible for something they said in a private email. I shouldn?t even know about it…?
?I worked with Tom [when he was head of Fox Filmed Entertainment.] ,? the star said outside Hollywood?s TCL Chinese Theatre. ?We did ?Independence Day? together. We did ?I, Robot.? I?ve worked with Tom a lot.?

Say what you will about Will Smith, he’s a professional and he knows how to handle his business. Maybe he should question why everyone is “dissing” his kids, though. It’s not just because they’re in the business, it’s because they say ridiculous things that make no sense.
Also while on the red carpet, Will said that he has problems balancing work and down time with Jada. US Magazine frames this like Will said this was the cause of all his issues with Jada. (Remember late 2011 and early 2012 when there were so many split rumors? Jada may have said that they have an open marriage, but she tried to clarify that later.) The fact is that Will was asked how he balances work and personal time and he said it was a struggle, he didn’t call it the cause of all his relationship issues at all. The actor, 46, was asked how he divvies up his time between work and his own personal life. “Now that’s really interesting. Jada and I have struggled with that a little bit.. The problem is one person is in work mode while the other person is in chill mode. Then it’s like you’re both trying to come up.”
“It is really something that will happen in time. And you’ll realize that you’re either really committed to having a relationship, or you’re really committed to coming up. At some point one or the other is going to have to suffer.”

Whatever is going on with Will and Jada, they seem to be doing better now, at least that’s what all the PDA at the premiere would suggest. Oh and it’s strange that Will didn’t mention his kids when he was asked about his personal life. Maybe the question was framed as just about his relationship, though. Plus it’s a throwaway question on a red carpet, I shouldn’t read too much into it.

Will Smith covers the March issue of Esquire to promote Focus, his heist film with Margot Robbie. Will’s aiming for a comeback after some underperforming films. This is probably Xenu’s fault. Will’s bummed at how After Earth didn’t strike gold. It’s no wonder. Critics described the film was incredibly obvious Scientology propaganda. Hollywood still hasn’t learned lessons from Battlefield Earth. Get thee behind me, Xenu.
This is a long interview. Smith waxes philoshophical about his career, fame, fitness, Ferguson, and parenting. Will’s haven’t attended school in years. Remember the whole quantum physics discussion with Jaden and Willow? They said “education is useless.” Will says Jaden is basically living like a monk (in a fancy mansion) because “the younger generation is less of an ownership generation.” HA. My feeling on Jaden not caring about money is this — it’s easy to think money isn’t necessary when you aren’t hurting for it. Some highlights:
On fame: “I have the spirit of desire to make people’s lives better. Being famous is such a gift for me because small things make people’s lives brighter. You just shake somebody’s hand. You just smile and write your name and people will talk about it for the rest of their lives.”
On Ferguson: “It’s been rough for me trying to find my position in the struggle and where my voice is needed and helpful. You know, I grew up in Philadelphia, and Philadelphia has a really rough police-brutality history. I grew up in a neighborhood where it was very clear that the police were ‘them’ and we were ‘us.’ I also know that when I was seventeen years old, I had a $20,000 car, which made it certain that I got pulled over all the time. I had a red IROC-Z, the full stereo system and the rims and the paint job.”
On staying “cut” at age 46: “I like to look good, but I like my body to function well more than anything. For me, it’s as spiritual and intellectual as it is physical. And emotional. I enjoy pushing myself. There is nothing like having to change your physical form to put you in contact with every weak part of yourself, to train yourself in discipline. You get confronted with all of the things you’ll be confronted with in your marriage, confronted with in your parenting, confronted with in your job. Put somebody on a treadmill and I’ll tell you how good they are at any other thing they do in life.”
On living like a pseudo monk: It’s such a strange thing. Jaden, my sixteen-year-old, he has one pair of shoes. He has three pair of pants and he has five shirts. Total. He has refused to be a slave to money. I so respect that. The younger generation is less of an ownership generation, anyway. And it’s such an interesting thing to watch, because I came from a middle-class background, but, you know, our lights and gas would be cut off from not paying the bill. I grew up in a house where you would need the kerosene heaters in the winter in case the bills didn’t get paid. And he’s from the complete other end of the spectrum. And it’s so interesting to me that from growing up in that space, he could see the need for things in a way that he’s rejecting. He’s like, ‘I’m not gonna let myself need things in that way’ — but I would like him to get another pair of shoes.”

Smith also says, “I’m past cars and jewelry, you know? I don’t even wear a watch.” Well not as many people wear watches anymore. Everyone has a clock on their phone. Unless you enjoy wearing a watch or need GPS capabilities, there’s no reason to wear one. Yahoo says Will is full of it because he and Jaden raved about Cartier watches in a 2013 interview.
I don’t think it’s a matter of Will consciously lying about Jaden’s austeric ways. Will is simply clueless and has no idea what’s really going on with his kids. Jaden is extremely materialistic without realizing it. He pitched a fit on Twitter about not being invited to the Grammys. Oh, and he definitely has more than one pair of shoes. Jaden Instagrammed photos of himself wearing both Uggs & Nikes during the past week.

His debut as the ?Tonight Show? went off with a hitch and brought in great ratings, but a fan-favorite moment from Jimmy Fallon's premiere was definitely his dance with Will Smith.
As previously reported by GossipCenter, Fallon brought on a plethora of famous faces including Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Jessica Parker and Stephen Colbert for his first night in the new hosting seat.
A moment that stands out in time is his Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing with Smith. The ?Fresh Prince? star ran onto the stage to meet Fallon in denim overalls and 80s-inspired tees and showed off moves including "The Cabbage Patch" and ?The Running Man.?
"You know, I was watching all of the people who came to support you tonight," Smith told Fallon. "People are coming for you. The Tonight Show is big and it's historic, but people are coming for your heart. You art is a gift to people to help their lives be better and brighter."

Gearing up for some New Year?s celebrations abroad, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith caught a flight at LAX International Airport on Monday (December 30).
The ?Fresh Prince of Bel Air? hunk and his lovely wife were all smiles as they meandered through the terminal en route to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Last week, Jada encouraged her fans to remember all of their blessings via a message on her Facebook account.
She wrote, ?My husband lost a friend today. It hit me how often I forget that nothing lasts forever, especially life. Today, I am blessed to be surrounded by the love of my family and friends, and I have been reminded not to take that for granted. Honor and cherish what and who you love because nothing is immune from impermanence. Love.?
