Six months before Brittany Murphy died in December 2009, she filmedSomething Wicked co-starring Shantel VanSanten. Five years later, they released the trailer. It’s opening in limited release on April 4. So if you thought Murphy was one of our nation’s preeminent actors or you just like to see her freak out while mascara runs down her face, now is your chance to see her final masterpiece.
In more recent dead people in a soon to be released movie news, James Gandolfini’sThe Drop had it’s trailer, um, drop a few days ago. He stars opposite Tom Hardy. This one’s more of a crime drama about funneling cash and a robbery gone awry. Unlike Brittany Murphy, Gandolfini does not freak out with mascara running down his face. Though it would have been an interesting scene. Probably could have won him a posthumous Oscar like Heath Ledger.
Meanwhile, Paul Walker stars in a parkour movie calledBrick Mansions. It’s likeThe Raid but with parkour. If you listen closely, you can hear Paul Walker scream, “It’s. So. Extreeeeeeme!,” from his urn.

We recently heard the shocking news that actress Brittany Murphy had abnormally high levels of ten heavy metals in her system at the time of her death in 2009. This was determined in private lab tests ordered by her father, on hair samples he obtained. The lab stated that “If we were to eliminate the possibility of a simultaneous accidental heavy metals exposure to the sample donor then the only logical explanation would be an exposure to these metals (toxins) administered by a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent.”
A lot of people were pointing fingers at Brittany’s mom, who lived with both Brittany and her husband, Simon Monjack, slept with Simon after Brittany’s death (by her own admission) and was fighting with Simon over Brittany’s estate. Now another bizarre theory has come to light. Brittany was due to testify in a whistleblower case her friend, a former employee of the Department of Homeland Security, filed against the government. Brittany’s friend, who is also an actress and producer, has given interviews in which she implies, but does not state directly, that the government was complicit in Brittany’s death. Here’s more:
?We?ve submitted formal demands to reopen the case of Brittany Murphy?s death,? Julia Davis told HollywoodLife.com exclusively on Nov. 18. Julia and Brittany?s father, Angelo Bertolotti worked together to get new blood, hair and tissue sample tests done after being suspicious of her death. The results showed heavy metals in her system, raising a surprising claim that she had been poisoned.
?We believe that she was poisoned by somebody,? Julia told us. ?We?re not pointing figures at who but we would like investigators to look into. We?ve submitted formal demands to reopen the case. Hopefully the LAPD will ? they had previously closed it within one hour, so clearly didn?t investigate enough. Hopefully now, they?ll do that promptly.?
Julia, an an investigative reporter/National Security expert, was an employee for Homeland Security when she met Brittany.
?After blowing a whistle on Homeland Security, they targeted me on a number, 54 actually, investigations,? she explained. ?In one of them they used Brittany?s name in claims that she had told them I was working on a movie when I was supposed to be at work. It was bogus, so Brittany came to my defense and we got her attorneys into it as well. From that point on, she was targeted by Homeland Security as was her husband, Simon [Monjack]. They were both placed under constant surveillance.?
Brittany and Simon were both aware of the surveillance, Julia said, and actually admitted in one of their last interviews. ?Of course, the press thought they were crazy and on drugs.?
So, after both she and her husband died five months apart from ?natural causes?, both Julia and Angelo realized that the situation didn?t add up However, because she was a young star, the allegations about her death blew up.
?She had no illicit drugs in her system whatsoever, and for prescription drugs ? the medications she was taking didn?t contribute to her death,? she explained. ?Even the coroner stated that her weight was perfect for her height, so there goes the anorexia claims. Other claims said there were mold in the house. That was completely investigated and it wasn?t true.?
So Julia and Angelo are just trying to clear the air and remember Brittany as the young woman she was. That is why they conducted the new tests, which did show a large amount of heavy metals in her system ? which could be the result of rat poisoning. They will do whatever they can to reopen the case and find out the truth.
?We would like to set the record straight because there has been so many false reports,? Julia added. ?Brittany wasn?t a junkie, she wasn?t a party girl. She was a sweet, innocent young woman. Her dad and myself want to set the record truth. She didn?t deserve to die at such a young age.?

Radar has video of Simon showing off his extensive home security system following Brittany’s death. You can watch it there. He also used scramblers for their phones.
This is some complicated conspiracy theory stuff. Of course it’s possible that there were nefarious agents at work, but why would a government agency kill both Brittany and then her husband? Julia Davis, the whistleblower, is still alive and she prevailed in her case against the Department of Homeland Security. (You can read more about her case here, she went to the FBI to report a way that terrorists could enter the country when her own superiors didn’t act.) It doesn’t make sense to kill the celebrity, and her husband, who had no real platform after his wife’s death. Plus wouldn’t the government have more sophisticated means to kill people than rat poison? (Not that they do that, but you know what I mean!) You can easily detect that. Maybe I’ve seen too much CSI but there are better ways to kill people that are harder to autopsy.
Both Brittany and her husband died of the same official cause, and since Brittany had abnormally high levels of heavy metals in her system, it’s probable that Simon did too. (We don’t have confirmation for that.) Heavy metal poisoning can cause people to go insane, remember the Mad Hatter? Both of these people were probably being slowly poisoned and were likely suffering from paranoid delusions. So it’s hard to tell whether the surveillance they suspected was real or imagined. (We know the government loves their surveillance though, and they’re said to have used it for this specific case.) Whether these two were being monitored or not, I doubt the government poisoned them, that sounds far fetched and unlikely. My thoughts lean toward someone who had the most to benefit from their deaths, and who had access to them daily.
I wonder, though, if these two could have succumbed to environmental toxins in their home, like if their water was somehow tainted or the home was made with materials that leeched out and poisoned them. Maybe they bought dishes overseas or were drinking rare tea or something. (They always look for things that on House) Radar reports that an investigation may possibly be opened into Brittany’s death. If that happens, I would be interested whether investigators take samples from the home and look for possible toxins there.
Update: Slate reports that heavy metals found in Brittany’s hair may be possibly explained by hair dye. What’s more is that there are questions about the lab, about how the samples were obtained (since Brittany’s father’s court petition for coroner samples was denied) and about the accreditation and professionalism of the lab. Apparently it’s highly unusual for a lab to speculate about causation, they’re just supposed to report findings.
Also, I would like to clarify why I keep emphasizing that the husband may have died the same way. Both Brittany and Simon died, at young ages, of “pneumonia and anemia,” within months of each other and while living in the same home. It’s incredibly sad and I understand why her father wants to find out if someone is responsible.
Thanks Becky for the tip!

Brittany Murphy died 4 years ago at 32-years-old. Everyone thought it was a little suspicious considering how young she was to just drop dead and suspected Simon Monjack, a perceived con-artist, may have killed her. Even more suspicious was the fact that Simon didn’t want an autopsy. The coroner was like, yeah, whatever and did an autopsy anyway. He ruled that the death was caused by community acquired pneumonia, iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication. He didn’t test for anything else like poisons.
Simon Monjack eventually died 5 months later with the same symptoms as Murphy. This was after shacking up with Murphy’s mom who everyone now realizes seemed to always be in the picture. Again, nothing other than basic toxicology reports were done.
For four years, Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, has suspected foul play and has even gone as far as suing the LA Coroner’s Office and LAPD for further toxicology reports. While the lawsuit was dismissed, he did secure the release of Murphy’s hair, blood and tissues for independent testing.
Results from the tests came out a day or two ago and concluded that Murphy and Monjack may have suffered from heavy metal poisoning.
“Since the autopsy narrative recorded a number of symptoms synonymous with poisoning, I requested testing for heavy metals/toxins,” Bertolotti wrote in an email to The Huffington Post Monday. “My suspicions were confirmed. Ten heavy metals were found in abnormally high quantities (as much as 9 times over the ‘high’ limit designated by the World Health Organization). These types of heavy metals/toxic elements are commonly found in rat poison, pesticides, insecticides, etc. Since neither Brittany nor Simon would have willingly consumed any such substances, the lab concluded that they may have been introduced by a third party with criminal intent.”
The general consensus is someone was surreptitiously feeding Murphy rat poison and then later did the same thing to Monjack. Of course, everyone is looking at Murphy’s mom, Sharon. When the report came out, Sharon probably glanced side to side and backed away slowly into the shadows.

Brittany Murphy died in late 2009 at just 32 years old. Her cause of death was determined to be pneumonia, anemia and “multiple drug intoxication”. Just five months later, Brittany’s 40 year-old widower, Simon Monjack, also passed away. Simon died in the same house as Brittany and of the same cause, pneumonia and anemia. There was speculation that something in the house caused their deaths, particularly toxic mold, which was reportedly found there. Also living in that same residence: Brittany Murphy’s mom, Sharon, who denied that there was any mold in the home, and called those reports “absurd.”
Sharon told police after Simon died that she had been sleeping in the same bed as Simon, where her late daughter used to sleep. Sharon was also allegedly fighting with Simon over her late daughter’s estate, although they denied it and claimed to get along fine. (Which made sense since they were sleeping in the same bed.)
A few months after Simon’s death, Brittany’s manager accused the late Simon, who had inherited her estate, of draining Brittany’s bank accounts. Simon’s mother and Brittany’s mother were then said to be feuding over the leftover money, with People Magazine reporting that Simon’s mother tried to kick Sharon out of the house.
All of that is preface to a new story about the supposed cause of Brittany’s death. There’s evidence that Brittany’s death may not have been accidental. Brittany’s father ordered a lab test of her hair, which was found to contain high levels of toxic metals including Barium, an ingredient in rat poison:
A new toxicology report ordered by the family of ?Clueless? actress Brittany Murphy says rat poison may have been the cause of her death.
Murphy?s mother found her dead at home on December 20, 20009 and the Los Angeles Coroner ruled her death was due to pneumonia and anemia. Strangely, Brittany?s husband Simon Monjack died from the same causes a five months later.
But an independent report ordered by her father Angelo Bertolotti found that the actress did not die of natural causes, according to The Examiner. The report even suggests that Brittany and Simon could have been murdered by a third party.
Following years of litigation Bertolotti was able to obtain samples of her hair, blood and tissue for testing. The Examiner reports that ?based on the symptoms? exhibited by Brittany and Simon before their deaths, he ordered testing for heavy metals and toxins. According to the report the Los Angeles Coroner did not test for heavy metals.
The web site quotes the lab report, ?Ten (10) of the heavy metals evaluated were detected at levels higher that the WHO [The World Health Organization] high levels ? If we were to eliminate the possibility of a simultaneous accidental heavy metals exposure to the sample donor then the only logical explanation would be an exposure to these metals (toxins) administered by a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent.?
Heavy metals are found in many rat poisons and insecticides. At the time of her death, Brittany displayed the symptoms of heavy metal poisoning including: headaches, dizziness, abdominal cramps, coughing, sweating, disorientation, wheezing, congestion and pneumonia.

The NY Daily News has more on this story, including the detail that Brittany’s father fought in court to have access to Brittany’s hair samples, but was unsuccessful. His case requesting access to coroner samples was dismissed in May. So it’s unknown how he got the hair he used for the private test, and it’s possible this evidence won’t be admissible in a future case, if there is one.
Brittany’s dad told the Daily News that he hopes a criminal case is opened. “The lab has shown that she was poisoned with criminal intent. We would like the investigation opened again to discover who did it. So as not to jeopardize the new investigation, I can’t say who I suspect as of yet.”
The question is whether Simon Monjack also had those same heavy metals in his system. Maybe Simon’s mom can advocate for her son and request access to samples. It seems more than suspicious that these two died of the same cause within a few months of each other.

A private memorial service and funeral for actress Brittany Murphy is slated to take place Christmas Eve (December 24) in Los Angeles.
According to TMZ, Murphy's body was transferred to Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills on Wednesday, four days after the 32-year-old actress died at her Hollywood home of what the coroner's office has deemed natural causes. An autopsy was performed Monday, but the determination of a cause of death has been deferred, pending toxicology tests.
With no public memorial announced, the private funeral appears to be the only chance friends and family will have to pay their final respects to the "8 Mile" co-star.
According to a report written by a Los Angeles County Coroner's office investigator, Murphy's mother and husband frantically tried to save the actress before she died. In notes reportedly obtained by TMZ, an investigator who attended to Murphy noted that she "had been complaining of shortness of breath and severe abdominal pain" in the seven to 10 days leading up to her death. Other reports had said she'd been experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days before her death.
The notes go on to say that Murphy went into the bathroom at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Her mother, Sharon Murphy, went to check on her about half an hour later and discovered Murphy "lying on the floor unresponsive." The investigator also wrote that she called for help, prompting Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, to come see what the problem was.
By the time the paramedics arrived, she was "without signs of life." She was then moved to the master bedroom where several prescription drugs were found, some prescribed to Murphy, others prescribed to her husband or mother. TMZ reports that antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, painkillers, an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, hypertension medication, a drug to treat diabetes and one to prevent seizures or migraines are listed in the notes.
"No alcohol containers, paraphernalia or illegal drugs were discovered," the notes reportedly say. "The night prior to her death, the decedent had consumed some noodles, leftover Thai food, Gatorade, water and tea with lemon."
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released a statement Tuesday night decrying the leaking of the investigative documents, the latest embarrassing leak to hit the office in the wake of similar documents tied to the Michael Jackson investigation. "The inquiry into the death is ongoing, and it is the policy and practice of the Department of Coroner to only release detailed information in cases where the final cause of death has been determined and the case investigation has been completed and closed by the deputy medical examiner."

As new details emerge surrounding the tragic death of Brittany Murphy, it has been discovered that her mother Sharon and husband Simon Monjack made a desperate attempt to revive her prior to the arrival of paramedics, according to the coroner’s report.
On Sunday morning (December 20) around 7:30am the “Clueless” actress went to the bathroom and shut the door. Around 8am her mother opened the door to check on her and found Murphy’s body on the floor.
From there, Sharon yelled to Simon who put the late actress’ body in the shower and ran cold water on her in an attempt to revive her.
The coroner’s report also stated, “A check of the nightstands revealed large amounts of prescription medication in the decedent’s name. Also noted were numerous empty prescription medication bottles in the decedent’s husband’s name, the decedent’s mother’s name and unidentified third party names.”
Of those medications found at the scene, most were either for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, pain, and heart health.
