Selma Blair was finally diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) five years ago. I say ?finally? because she only got the proper diagnosis after being in pain for most of her life, and spending ten years doggedly seeking an answer. On Monday Selma was invited to speak at the White House to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act and the 33rd of its descendant, the Americans with Disabilities Act. Escorted on the arm of President Joe Biden ? who fought for both bills in Congress as a senator ? and with the assistance of a cane and her support dog Scout, Selma spoke with candor about how both laws have helped her to be ?a proud disabled woman.? I?m not crying, you are.
Blair told a crowd of advocates attending the ceremony, ?Although I?d had symptoms since the age of 7, it took a lifetime of self-advocacy to finally lead me to a diagnosis at age 46, after living most of my life in pain and self-doubt.?
She said Judy Heumann, a renowned activist who helped secure passage of the legislation protecting the rights of disabled people being celebrated Monday and who died in March at age 75, ?Taught me my worth.?
?The push towards equity continues,? Blair said. ?Our laws and policies must reflect that our disabled lives are not of lesser value.?
Biden also hailed Heumann, noting that, ?History shows it?s often not the people in power, but the power of the people that move the country forward.?
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs conducted by federal agencies, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prevents discrimination against disabled people on everything from employment to parking to voting.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and Biden noted both bills received bipartisan support when clearing Congress.
?These laws are a source of opportunity, meaningful inclusion, participation, respect, and, as my dad would say, the most important of all, dignity,? Biden said. ?Be treated with dignity. Ensuring that the American dream is for all of us, not just for some of us.?

Selma looked like a BOSS. Everything about her look is goals for me: the white-blonde slicked-back hair, the Chanel-esque Carolina Herrera suit with impossible-to-miss embellishments, a faithful dog companion, what looks like a lucite cane. It?s all working, and it?s all fabulous. The only area I?ll have to tap out on are the heels. I look like a baby giraffe taking her first steps in those things.
So a breakdown of her look may seem superficial, but I think it makes a deeper impact too. Everything she (and Biden) spoke about had to do with equity, dignity, and worth. With that outfit and the way she carried herself, Selma?s whole presence commanded respect and attention. So much respect, in fact, that when Biden bent down to give Scout a scritch (who was napping at Biden?s feet), when Selma gave Scout a gentle direction it was Biden who responded by standing up straight again. Good boy, Joe! And it made me so, so happy that she and Biden both honored Judy Heumann, who was a great light that went out this year. Those acts would not exist today without her, as she was ?the mother? of the disability rights movement in America.

Last October, Selma Blair revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two months earlier. This was after years of meeting with various doctors and getting nowhere until Selma went to see Dr. Jason Berkley, the brother of her friend Elizabeth Berkley. Selma?s Instagram post detailed some of the ways that living with MS had begun to impact her: ?I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps.? She explained that Allisa Swanson, the costume designer on her Netflix series, Another Life, helped her get dressed. A few months later, Hecate wrote about the support that Selma has been getting from her friends following her diagnosis.
Selma is also getting help from Arthur, her 7-year-old son. On Friday, she shared a sweet picture of Aurthur helping her cut her hair:

Ok. So my head is still pounding. I drove away from a gas pump with the nozzle still in. I was chastised for wearing fur but that was weird cause it was teddy bear fur. And then I paid for the broken pump so that was over a 500 dollar tank of gas . Felt awful for being so absent minded. Then I burst into tears in front of barista after ordering and made everyone uncomfortable. Still crying. And I ran out of dog food. And excedrin. Back in June of this year, Selma Blair was involved in a really disturbing incident on a plane traveling from Mexico to LA. She had been on vacation with her former partner and their son, and she apparently took a pill and mixed it with some alcohol and she had some kind of breakdown and blackout. She was taken off the plane and treated, and a day later she issued a public apology and an explanation. She sounded truly horrified by what she had done and said. Selma appeared on The Talk this week and she was asked about the situation from June. Her explanation sounds solid, although? I don?t know. I?ll let you judge for yourselves.
Selma Blair is opening up about her plane incident that made front-page headlines earlier this summer. During an appearance on The Talk Wednesday afternoon, the actress shed some light on what really happened as she flew from Mexico to Los Angeles.
“I am someone who should never drink and I rarely do and I don’t drink anymore, but I did. I was going through something. I had a glass of wine, someone gave me a pill that I thought was something that I had taken before, which I don’t take on a regular basis. It was something completely different. It was a very bad choice and I had a total psychotic blackout. It was horrible and frightening and I had empathy for myself actually afterwards because actually it was so out of character for me, especially now that I am a mother.”
Contrary to reports, Selma told viewers Wednesday afternoon that she was taken to a clinic instead of the hospital where she was given an IV and an assessment. She was able to go home two hours later.
“My son was with his father and he had slept through it. I knew he was going to sleep. He had headphones on and that’s why I took this pill…bad choice all around,” Selma admitted. “Totally own it, it will not happen again.”
If the actress is offered a glass of alcohol today, she will politely decline. And if you keep asking, she has one joke ready to go: “Google me.”
“I keep it alive in me with me every day,” she shared with Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler and the rest of the co-hosts. “I forgive myself, but I keep it alive like things can go really wrong and humiliating.”

The thing about the incident was that she was the biggest threat to herself and no one else ? unlucky so many entitled jackasses, she wasn?t threatening anyone or trying to hurt anyone. I believe she really did have a blackout and she had no idea what she was saying or doing. That being said, it?s still shady that she just took someone else?s pill and threw back some liquor. She?s apologized and she?s talked about the shame she feels, but she?s so quick to say that she?s ?forgiven? herself. Like, is that the most important thing? Are we all supposed to say, ?Oh, it?s fine then, she?s forgiven herself!?

Following a long weekend in Cancun, Selma Blair was flying back to LA with her son and her ex-partner on Monday. Everything went haywire on the flight for Selma. She was seen mixing prescription pills with wine, then she was overheard saying some truly disturbing things. Two nurses on board tried to help her, but when the plane landed, Selma was taken off in a stretcher and she was hospitalized. The whole incident seemed very, very bizarre. And now Selma has given an official statement and apology to Vanity Fair:
?I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his Dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret. My son was with his Dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace. I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath. I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.?

She mixed prescription pills with alcohol and blacked out? That?s what I suspected yesterday. It?s not that I was trying to forget the crazy stuff she was saying, I just thought? yeah, I bet she didn?t even know what she was saying. I would love to know what she pills caused her to have that kind of blackout too. Michael K thinks it was Ambien + wine (CB thinks it could be Ambien too). Could be, or it could be something heavier than Ambien, although there are definitely some crazy and disturbing blackout stories for Ambien. She?s lucky she didn?t hurt anyone else or herself. And is it wrong that I sort of like Selma more for apologizing for the incident?

Again, I?m not really sure what the interest level is for stories about The People vs. O.J. Simpson miniseries. I actually think the miniseries will be well-done and well-acted, and it will probably introduce a new generation to what was then the biggest true-crime story ever. Younger kids don?t even realize how the OJ Simpson drama dominated headlines and news for an entire year. I even remember being in school and the teacher turning on the TV to hear the verdict.
Anyway, these are some photos from last night?s LA premiere event. I?m including pics of David Schwimmer (who plays Robert Kardashian Sr.) and his wife Zoe Buckman. Also included: Courtney B. Vance (Johnny Cochran), Cuba Gooding (OJ), John Travolta (Robert Shapiro), Selma Blair (Kris Jenner) and Sarah Paulson (Marcia Clark). Paulson?s gown is Stella McCartney. Selma?s gown is Derek Lam. Is it just me or does Selma look SO MUCH like Kris here?
Previously, David Schwimmer seemed to throw a bit of shade at the current crop of the Kardashians, even rejecting offers to meet with Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, apparently. But Schwimmer was interviewed by EW this week, and he had some really nice things to say about Kris Jenner. Some highlights:
On Kris Jenner: ?I was lucky enough to speak to Kris Jenner for a few hours?.It could?ve been [awkward] but she was so warm and generous with her time. We spoke for a few hours in real detail because I wanted to know who he was as a husband and a father. He was a real family man and he had a lot of strong values and ethics. There?s a lot about him that I actually can identify and relate to with him, especially the loyalty.
Honoring Robert?s legacy: ?No one really knows who he was and his legacy is very different. Obviously, the Kardashian name is very different from who he was. I do feel a responsibility to try and honor him and who he was and his spirit.
Whether he changed his opinion on the Kardashians: ?No. I don?t know any of them personally, so I don?t really have an opinion. I have a higher opinion of Kris Jenner because she was so lovely on the phone for two hours. I find it really interesting to just understand who he was and what they must have been like as young children with their father. That?s what I kind of focus on.?

I feel like he?s between a rock and a hard place. Kris must have helped him a great deal with his research and she was genuinely nice to him, so he doesn?t want to diss the entire family. But he still wants it to be pretty clear that he?s not all about the Kardashians.

Keeping her new lightened locks under a hat, Selma Blair ran errands in Los Angeles on Monday (July 15).
The former "Anger Management" star carried a quill pen and a yellow handbag in a white top with an open black shirt over it, black shorts, and sandals as she made her way about town.
Just the day before, the 41-year-old actress spent Sunday fun day with her adorable toddler, Arthur, at the Farmers Market in Studio City.
Giving the little guy a thrill, the pair stopped at the petting zoo, where her two-year old excitedly held a guinea pig.
